I usually went with Ashley as MaleShep, but then finally switched to Liara in the Legendary addition and found that one far more interesting. It just works better, she brings the balance to Shep's chaos. Ash is hot but Liara had a better connection. Miranda is a close runner-up
Honestly Garrus has to be the best. You can start building a strong friendship in ME1, then you go through that awkward phase in ME2 when you get closer and both struggle to make it work while trying too hard, then finally opening up to your vulnerabilities. Then in ME3 he is there the shoulder to lean on, the one to offer a counterpoint but will still support you during the tough calls, at the same time opening up to you more showing the trust and devotion to you, when you are knocked down he is there to the end.... the hand that you never want to let go of when the time comes.
Ashley is so mistreated. The more idiotic Mass Effect fans misunderstand her, and Bioware was being idiotic for replacing the writers for the 3rd part of a trilogy.
Also Team Ashley here. She's so over-hated by a really idiotic portion of the fanbase that I originally romanced her out of spite, and then was pleasantly surprised by how much I actually liked her.
The worst part about the irrational Ashley hate is that her views in ME1 are completely validated in ME3, because the Asari Councilor *literally says* "The cruel truth is that while Earth is under attack, it gives us time to prepare." Yeah, the aliens abandoned humanity the moment it was convenient for them. JUST LIKE ASHLEY SAID THEY WOULD. At least the Turian councilor understood that both the other Councilors were completely out of their minds. The Salarian Councilor comes around, even if the Dalatrass refuses to help, so points there. But the Asari are the worst of the bunch. Refusing to help, refusing to attend diplomatic talks with the Krogan (with their reasoning being "Well, we Asari couldn't succeed, so the humans don't stand a chance."), and when they finally decide to help, it's only AFTER their own homeworld is under the threat they've been ignoring and using other races as meat shields against, only to THEN reveal that the Asari have been in breach of a galactic law THEY THEMSELVES CREATED for centuries. You literally broker a peace treaty between the Krogan and Turians, save the Council (INCLUDING THE COUNCILOR HERSELF) and they STILL refuse to help. You literally have to end the Geth-Quarian war before the Asari even lift a finger. I'm sorry, but they are just terrible. Hopefully they get stripped of their position on the Council in later games, because they certainly don't deserve it.

Tali is my favorite Every single time I play as a male Shepard, I think to myself I’ll romance either Ashley, Liara, or Miranda throughout the games…. But I always end up with Tali in the end.

Garrus is easily my favorite (though I do have a soft spot for Kaidan, thanks to that glow-up arc in ME3). I usually play FemSheps, and while I do appreciate the relationships one can have with Tali (only as MShep), Jack, Liara, and Samantha, I just find the resident turian the most appealing overall. It’s such a sweet and sexy romance, with plenty of funny banter and one of my favorite dates in the Citadel DLC. He goes from this adorkable flirting in ME2 to being smooth as butter in ME3, and I can never get enough of it! I would be much more willing to play through Thane’s romance again, though, if there was a chance at a happier outcome.
Kaiden deserves to be up way higher. He was one of the very first gay male romance options available in any major AAA title. And the scene where him and MaleShep are at the restaurant together is truly heartwarming.
My top 5 are: 1 - Tali 2 - Miranda 3 - Thane 4 - Ashley 5 - Kaidan Note: I haven't played Andromeda. Note 2: Give me a Krogan romance in the next game, Bioware.
I'm intrigued if they are going to call it mass effect 5 or if they call it mass effect 4 I'm banking on the next Mass effect game being called mass effect 4 because Mass effect Andromeda never used the name because it was a non-connected spin-off
Thane was so good, one of the few times a video game had me in tears following his message he leaves for you in ME3 And Traynor was a great change of pace on replay of ME3, she's the sweetest and I love how competitive she is
I’ve never played any series through as many times I have Mass Effect. I’m about to watch this video, but I’ve never so immediately invested in a video subject.
To be fair i can't add the Romance options that are not possible in all 3 games cuz a full romance is for all of shepard's life. So as a Male Shepard i would say Liara/Ashe and Tali but from the 50+ times i replayed the game i am not sure if you can full romance Tali in ME2. Ashe is kind of neah for ME 2 so nr 1 would be Liara you can romance her in ME 1 you can Romance her in ME2 more or less via DLC and you can also do that in ME3. As for males i would place Garus at nr 1 just cuz he's there anytime.
To see actual credit to Ashley makes me quite happy. When you get pass her racism she's quite great. And I agree with a good amount of this list, tho personally Tali is the best no doubt, and my personal headcanon. It's well written, heartfelt and an absolute joy to experience. No matter where this series goes, no one tops my dear quarian.

Liara for Mass Effect 1 and Tali for 2 and 3. One of very few changes in Mass Effect 2 I approve of is being able to romance Tali. I probably would have tried a run as Liara all the way if she actually joined the crew in 2. Pre-DLC I was very pissed at all the team members who refuse to rejoin in 2 besides Wrex though of the three others I find Liara the most forgivable. The survivor's attitude on Horizon made me wonder if there was a way to leave both Kaiden and Ashley.
One of the best things that happens in Mass Effect 3 is that Kaidan Alenko becomes a romance option for Male Shepard, not just exclusive to Female Shepard. I love romancing with Alenko because of his character development in Mass Effect 3
Jacob is the worst possible romance partner. Bastard cheats on you. My favorite singular romance is cortez, cuz of reasons. But overall, it's either tali, liara or jack.
For me it's a little different. Male Shep: Ashley or Jack, Fem Shep: Garrus or Kaidan. I refuse to ever let my Shepard end up with Liara because of how much of an obvious writer's pet she was. Like her if you want, but I find her completely unsufferable and always have.
I only bother to romance 3 people anymore. Ashley/Kelly/Samara Kelly & Samara only have small moments of romance and you have to do very specific things to get them, so my main will always be Ashley. As far as Andromeda goes, it’s Peebee.
Number 1 for FemShep is Garrus followed closely by Thane. She definitely gets the quality-over-quantity treatment here. I would personally like to disagree with the ranking and put Tali on top for the best HimShep romance. It's a small reason but an important one. Tali is available as a teammate for the entire trilogy. Sure Liara was easy enough to romance from ME1 but she was not there every step of the way like Tali was. Tali was there for me moment to moment whenever I needed her both on and off the battlefield.
Bioware really through hetero Femshep under the bus. She only gets 4 legit male romance options, and they consist of a cheater, a boring beta, a terminally ill case, and Garrus. And Garrus sadly can't give her biological children.
I always go for Miranda. She’s designed to be perfect whilst Shepard is rose to greatness, both leadership and both have problems in their own ways. Shepard with the weight of the galaxy on his shoulders whilst Miranda protecting her little sister and fight against her father. Two might have a big difference in responsibility but both important in other ways. But that’s just my opinion!
Miranda is one of the more boring squadmate romances from ME2 outside of her looks. "My father this. My sister that. My perfectly engineered body". Jacob is irredeemable though, especially considering how things went down with his own philandering father. @@darthnowlan Your opinion, but there are several reasons why she's the best romance in the entire galaxy 1) She is the literal reason you're alive in Mass Effect 2 and 3 2) Liara has a child with you(because of the 'gift' she gives you. 3) In the first game Liara is able to help you with the prothean visions and without her help you would be lost. I know that Garrus and Tali are also joined Shepard but they didn't have the same impact as the Shadow Broker herself.

I'm not a dude so any of the "dude only" romances don't work for me. I also don't play as a dude. I am working on a Liara romance right now though. As I will probably romance any option for female Shepard. Except for Jacob. But only because I know what happens in ME3.

I'm not a dude so any of the "dude only" romances don't work for me. I also don't play as a dude. I am working on a Liara romance right now though. As I will probably romance any option for female Shepard. Except for Jacob. But only because I know what happens in ME3.
