    Just kids playing around, and turned into tragedy. Throwing stones is so dangerous, my brother got his teeth damaged because of a stone, could have been one of his eyes. Txs for the story.

      We did exactly the same as kids 🫤 Near where I live and on want was the old railway line. We used to chuck stones at each other and never gave a thought to the danger.

      Thanks Sue. Kids will be kids as you say and things won't ever change. Accidents will happen, some innocent and some tragic.

    Such a tragic story. Both for the poor lad who died, and the lad who had to live with what he'd done. Like you say "we've all done things like this" it's pure luck it didn't happen more

    I am surprised they took this case to court. It was in my eyes a tragedy, an accident. Kids do not think of what could happen . The boys had to live with this terriable accident their whole lives.Thank you again for an interesting story. You have inspired me to visit areas such as this here in my community of New Hampshire/Vermont USA.

    25:35 metal detectorists have rinsed the range. You can still find the odd stray casing or sometimes, after heavy rain, a bullet or two. Rare now though. Could pick them up all day in the 80s

    A very sad video indeed 😢 as a mother of 2 now(, grown up kids ) ,one of the rules was to never throw stones ! as we all know what the out come would be , I’m saddened by the fact that poor Joseph came off worse from a so called game ! I bet those boys never picked up another stone in their lives after that , and hopefully encouraged their off spring to not throw stones too thanks again for the video I think this tale needs to be shown to all young kids to discourage them from throwing stones , would I call this a case of misadventure? Probably not , when a kid of 16 picks up a stone to throw , they know that it will definitely hurt whoever it hits that’s just my opinion Paula from Oxfordshire

    Another excellent episode, thanks 🙏 I was involved in a stone throwing fight with about 6 lads when we were about 11, we stumbled into it, no intent at all, we just accidentally got caught up in it. I remember stones whistling past my head and, I'll be honest, I was #]*%[=+ terrified. Fortunately no one got hurt.

      It's true what you say, nothing seems to change despite the numerous warnings from our past! For example, we drove into Blackburn yesterday and two lads who had just left a pub walked straight out onto the main road, not a care in the world as they casually took their time walking, and when I had to slam on and beeped they got seriously angry 🤣 It was like they hadn't done anything wrong. But they had that attitude of 'we will do what we want' and you just knew they were yobs. But this goes on all the time, people just so not either care about others or are just blind to things 🤷 but as you say, it's been going on since the age of man (and woman).

    George must have been terrified having to go to the assizes!
    We did that as kids too. We used to throw stones at the boys when they were trying to fish, and we were hidden out of sight 😅

    Final verdict: 8/10. Involving story, beautiful camera work, fantastic choice of location. Loses 2 points for the lack of V either in background, in commentary or just providing eye relief from the old man telling the story.
    And it’s up for debate locally really
    Is it Hambledon, is it Hameldon?.
    Despite recently named terraces it’s Hambledon Hill. South of old Pendle.

    We used to have stone fights in the 1980s across the canal with our friends. We just split up then bricked each other. One evening my mate got half a Charlie wedged in his skull, he was ok but never the same. Ahhhh the past was the worst😂

    Missed the premiere like always! My mum’s birthday so that took priority.
    I swear to god that it’s a bad idea to set up premiers four days in advance. It’s also a bad idea to use running up that hill, the kids have killed it. Although I think cloudbusting would be awesome for that view 2:28 x
    Keep up keeping our local history alive and, as always, stay safe!
    I might have been a bit too critical on this but I’ve had a few and it tends to loose my tongue.
    The range was used both ways, in fact the bays can be used for sniping, kneeling, full stance shooting. That’s why you weren’t allowed to go there…

    4:05 that area is the butts. Where the targets would have been. There would have been guys hidden below it raising and lowering the targets while the soldiers using the range would have been way off into the distance the other way

    • @angelamills58
      @angelamills58 2 місяці тому

      Definitely the button targets would go on top and the projectile would go into the ripples. Range was still functional in 1980's as my dad was still shooting there.

    Thank you for the story very sad for Joseph RIP, I just think it was kids messing about which led to a fatality the lad that threw the stone never meant to kill him. The dangerous things I did as a kid such as playing chicken on the rail tracks bloody stupid now I think back I don't think you ever sense danger when you are a youngster. Another great interesting video well done! 👏👏👍

    what a sad outcome[i visited this place i believe as a child-and saw a cartridge protruding at about4and a half feet in a sandy embankment! poor Josephs grandad as he was entrusted to take care and the boy getting of scot free but having to live the rest of his days but the judge was the Judge at the end of the day amen

    That is the butts end the where the targets are placed on the frames and lifted up. They are shot at from way down the field. The bank behind will be full of rounds lead and brass.

    It's entirely possible. A similar thing happened to my brother but he was alright, although a bump on the head might explain his life choices since I suppose.
    We were having a stone war and my neighbour (child) hit my brother with a type of bolas which consisted of 3 half bricks tied to a rope lol. We were all willing participants and all culpable though

  • @Baskerville22

    I don't agree with your apparent view that this killing fits into a "boys will be boys" category. The rocks were thrown with INTENTION to harm others. If the perpetrator had pushed his victim into a river and that victim died because he could not swim, would you argue that it was just a boyish prank ..... and done in ignorance of its possible consequence ? A reckless or drunk driver who kills another person with his car does not pre-plan or intentionally set out to kill.....but we, rightly, do not accept that as an excuse to avoid serious punishment. Your minimising the seriousness of the actions that led to the killing of Joseph, will no doubt be read with delight by all the bullies and ne'er-do-wells visiting this video.

    • @DaysofHorror
      @DaysofHorror  Місяць тому

      But it was a boyish prank. Didn't you ever mess about as a kid, pushing your mates or tripping them over for a laugh? Or doing it to people who perhaps weren't your mates but people you still knew - just to be mischievous? But you're entitled to a view like everyone else. It's all good 🙌

    I think her defence team probably didn't push the insane defence. She thought she was a man to start with, but the headaches, the health problems, surely a decent defence team could argue insanity. Today, I don't think she would be charged with murder, well she may jave been charged with murder, but make a deal with the prosecution, to manslaughter. The 12 hammer hits would jave to be explained, but again, a decent defence could come up with something. I think that she may have been discriminated against because she thought she was a man. Ultimately she had a big hurdle to get over with the 12 whacks.
