This is a couple car comparison of the Kia Seltos and Chevrolet Trailblazer small SUVs. The Kia Seltos offers two 4-cyliner engines, the 2L with a CVT has 146 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. The top SX trim which we tested gets a 1.6L turbo with a 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission. It has 175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. The Chevrolet Trailblazer offers two different 3-cylinder turbo-charged engines. The FWD 1.2L engine with a CVT, has 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft torque.
The AWD 1.3L engine with a 9 speed automatic transmission has 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft torque. The one you see here is the RS trim. The Seltos AWD comes standard with Halogen headlights, 17 inch wheels, 18 inches wheels are available on the top trim, a spare tire, body coloured and heated power adjustable side view mirrors, rear spoiler and roof rails. LED taillights are available on the EX trim, two down from the top trim and LED headlights are available on the EX Premium one down from the top trim.
The Trailblazer comes standard with halogen headlights and taillights, 17 inch wheels, 18 inch come standard on the top trim, a spare tire and body coloured door handles. As for heated side view mirrors you have to move up a trim to get those. The Trailblazer looks sporty with the RS model we tested, I like the two-tone colour combination with the red roof and the black colour, there are other colour combinations you can get as well. The Activ Trim gives you more of a utility vibe like an off-road look. The Activ comes with 17” wheels and the RS 18” wheels. The Seltos comes standard with heated front seats, an 8 inch display, an optional 10.25 inch is available on the top two trims, a 3.5 inch driver display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, remote key-less entry. If you want features like a heated steering wheel, leather wrapped shift knob, synthetic leather and a sunroof, you will have to move up to the next trim which is the EX. The second from the top trim, the EX Premium will get you heated rear seats and air-cooled front seats. A head-up display is available on the top trim along with a Bose Premium Sound system. On the other hand, one of the most impressive things about this Trailblazer is the technology. It comes standard with a 7 inch touchscreen, 8” is optional and includes, Bluetooth connectivity for two devices at the same time, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto; a 3.5 inch driver display and cloth seats. Wireless charging is also available. If you want the panoramic sunroof and the power liftgate, it will cost you almost $2,000. Heated front seats are available on the LT trim and above. The Seltos and Trailblazer are a great comparison, their interiors are both well designed. Although, the Seltos has a lot of plastic, we described it as plastic fantastic, the Trailblazer also has hard plastic but not as much as the Seltos, there are more mixed materials in the Trailblazer with beautiful red stitching thoughout the interior, including the shifter. It looks more upscale for this category. The Trailblazer has plenty of storage and one standout feature is a power tailgate, which is not offered by anyone else except the Mazda CX-30.
Both are very spacious, plenty of headroom and legroom in the front and second rows. The cargo space in both is very useful, the seats fold down and provide plenty of room for all your gear.

I love my Trailblazer. Comfy and really fast and peppy. It has plenty of room as well.
I have the 2022 active trailblazer and love it
I test drove a Seltos not long after it came out. I was really impressed by the practicality of the overall design. The engine/transmission made a lot of noise, but it did perform very well. There is certainly a high amount of plastic in the interior, but it's well done. Overall, it's a nice vehicle for it's class.
The only Seltos worth getting is the turbo model with the DCT. It has proven reliable. The IVT in the Soul and Seltos are having non-stop problems, with some already on their third transmission, to the point that its taking months to replace as Kia didn't anticipate so many failing at once causing a parts backlog.
@@BoopSnoot I just traded in my Kia optima 2016 for a Kia Seltos 2023 Turbo AWD. I hope this one is reliable?
I got off a conference call and right to UA-cam. Thanks guys, loved this comparison, so well done. Keep up the great work! Drea looking pretty as usual 💯
Thank you so much, glad you liked it and to get off a conference call, awesome!
My girlfriend has a 2021 Kia Seltos SX turbo it drives so smooth and it's so quiet and powerful so I'd go for the Kia over the Chevy
Whichever you pick either lease it, sell it after 100,000km or buy an extended warranty. Don't expect good resale value either.
@@James-il3tq she's keeping it for the 10 year 100000 miles warranty
How’s road noise?
@@James-il3tq The Kia has better resale value. Its not the 1990’s.
Yay!!! You added about the warranties for each vehicle!! This is such an important difference between these two vehicles, we bought a Kia Tuscon a few years ago because the warranty vs a VW Tiguan was much better. Most car reviewers leave out warranty info on their videos and I can't understand why? Well done you two, now please add the warranty info on your regular weekly car reviews too. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! We are definitely working on it. :)
I just bought a sx turbo..2 months old and only 600 miles on it and I am getting 29 mpg in the city and highway is about 37 mpg ! My best highway mpg was 42.2 ! I took a picture of the dash to show people that didn't believe me !
It is a great value vehicle.
Great video, thank you! These are the two cars that will buying one of! I feel like the Trailblazer in it's mid price range (not the top tier, ) has great value and is geared for more of an American buyer where as the Seltos is geared for a cooler/colder climate with all it's heating specialties!
I purchased a 2022 Seltos nightfall. It is a turbo and has great get up and go! Very pleased...I traded equinox Premier that had multiple electronic issues. Sad to see it go but happy with new purchase.
Hi Andrea....would love to see a compare between these 2 and the Ford bronco sport...love your reviews...thx, chris
Warranty is the key!very good video guys 👍🏽👍🏽
Great video Zac and Andrea! The Korean spec models of these cars have much nicer interiors and better features. I wish they would at least make those optional in Canada. You'd love them!
That would be cool!
That would be nice! Thanks for watching!
We have the seltos turbo, it has had quite a few problems. Trans overheated twice, check engine light keeps going on, dealer resets it, but still goes on. Trans is always jerky especially when starting out, it tends to want to rocket forward even when feathering the gas.
weather on info screen always shows rain .
Handeling is good but the ride is rough. Lane departure is aggressive and is alarming when it kicks in.
Going for a Trailblazer RS.
So you can get ventilated seats and heating steering wheel in the US?
Here in Phoenix, AZ, heated steering wheels are standard equipment on EVERY automobile... thanks to Nature! LOL
You are so lucky! :)
@@andreaspencer9813 I'd love to be a snowbird and retreat to somewhere like Vancouver in the summertime. Keep up the great content!
You'll need that heated steering wheel if you drive up to Flagstaff!
@@WanderingAroundAZ It is really beautiful here in the summer, you would love it. It doesn't get too hot, it's just right. Thank you so much, really happy to hear you are enjoying the content.
Pretty sure heated seats as well,,
Awesome video! But I am disappointed at UA-cam for not adding close captions. If I pick one of vehicles is KIA. It’s looks very nice. 👍🏻👍🏻
I am sorry to hear this, hopefully UA-cam will add it back for you.
@@andreaspencer9813 Don’t worry. It’s UA-cam at fault.
@@andreaspencer9813 the irony of using "hearing" in response to someone that probably needs CC because they are deaf, lol!
Does have a heated steering wheel available on the trailblazer
Nice comparison review
Thank you so much!
Probably not the right video for this comment, but do you guys have any input on the engine fires in KIA/Hyundai vehicles in the last few years? They've had to recall hundreds of thousands of them (a few thousand engine fires in America), even some that weren't initially on the recall list ended up having fires. I don't see Canadian regulators doing anything about it, but the American regulators have gotten the manufacturer to issue the recalls.
I'd pick the Kia but the Chevy does look good inside and out. I like the interior of the Chevy too but the Kia is hard to beat for features at a better price.
That's how I feel too!
I'd expect unless you're buying right away while they're just introed, the Chevy's price is padded for deep discounting. GM MSRPs are a polite fiction.
Now review the VW Taos SEL trim. Heated steering wheel is a must. I use it all winter long.
Andria mentioned she likes sitting higher and looking over the dash, was it that way in the CX30? Visibility was not mentioned in your review, windows look so narrow on the CX30??
I actually enjoyed the drive of the CX-30 and felt very comfortable in my seating position. Although, the Seltos has a higher seating position as does the Volvo XC40, I still enjoyed the CX-30 Turbo. The back seat feels cramped but visibility wise, I had no issues even with the narrow windows.
I am a Kia fan and I was looking at the Seltos and ended up getting the Trailblazer LT
I'd probably go for the Seltos if Kia/Hyundai's track record of failure for the 2.0L wasn't so high. So because of that, I'd feel safer getting the trailblazer.
Hey Zack, I have a terrain, how much smaller is the trailblazer compared to the terrain?
I don't have her percentage but it is smaller, you should have a look at 1 and see for yourself
long term durability of little turbo engines are the question i would wait for the corrolla cross
If they decide to bring it here(NA) then yes I agree.
Both vehicles’ headlights are in the front bumper, so a minor fender bender, or even a love tap would (probably) cost a lot of $.
I really don't like chev, but this one looks pretty good.
I love my Trailblazer
Oh and $28,000 !! And warranty is unbelievable!!! Happy!!
Chevy blazer for me. I find the 1,000lb towing capabilitie sold me. I live in the city and will be towing around a zero fx dirt bike. Seltos can't. Handle it. Also I just love GM rugged tactical styling. Seltos looks ok in my opinion, but it looks like an SUV more than a cross over. If you can understand what I'm saying. I prefer the design of the interior of KIA,but it's not deal breaker for me. Both the vehicles are for people who are on budget and probably can't afford the more crossover or subcompact suvs. So with that said you get what you pay for and a little bit of fun. All I can say is chose what's best for you. If you find it hard to choose, then I suggest saving your money for something you like.
You can get a two-tone Seltos too, so it's not just the Trailblazer.
Would be interesting to know exactly where each reviewed vehicle falls In The category as far as sales numbers are concerned.
Kia Seltos - 46,280 in 2020
Chevy Trailblazer - 34,292 in 2020
These are US numbers, Canada is not included.
@@Lucky8s interesting thank you
That’s pretty strange because in the US they don’t offer the heated steering wheel and the ventilated front seats 😤
I like chevy trailblazer
It’s funny how the Seltos lists towing capacity in overseas countries but here in the U.S. there is no towing rating and it’s recommended that you don’t tow. Same Seltos, different countries. The Trailblazer allows up to 1,000 lbs. for a towing limit. I was sort of looking at the Seltos as a possibility but the non- towing recommendation ruins it for me.
in my region we have mostly Seltos 2L with CVT and Chevy 1.3 with CVT. I would prefer Chevy as it is faster, less "plastic made feeling" and less noise. Imo Seltos is a massive model because its cheap.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What about towing capacity?
In the U.S. the Seltos has no towing capacity rating and from what I’ve read, dealers do not recommend towing. In other countries, the Seltos can tow. I forget the weight but google Kia in Australia and you’ll find it.
In the U.S. the Trailblazer is rated for 1,000 lbs.
I find that the Trailblazer will age better than the KIA. It’s styling is, as Zack said, ‘stronger’. Plus the Chevy has a cooler sounding name. “Seltos” sounds like something I’d give my children, should their tummy start to feel funny. Thanks for the video.
Eh you never know how well a vehicle will age until it well ya know... ages.
Other format is better ! Good job
Thank you!
Trailblazer for me if I had to pick one. However since I know about the CX-30 I would probably stretch my budget and select that one.
CX-30 is another great vehicle!
Go Chevy! I'd put Foose rims on there, too. (Just starting to watch this video now.)
I will take the seltos
Seltos!!!
I like chevy tr
I rather stick to my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer EXT LS 5.3 L V8 naturally aspirated with active fuel management which due to a error at the Oklahoma Factory where it was built it could also run on ethanol it is the only flex-fuel Trailblazer in the United States or North America for that matter. With 21 in the city MPG and 32 on the highway MPG. It may be 19 years old but it's in mint condition....
Sounds like you've got a really special vehicle. I worked at GM for 36 years. I don't think general motors poured money into research and development to build one trailblazer with flex fuel capability, makes no sense. Your 2004 Chevy trailblazer extended LS 5.3 does not have active fuel management. Unless it's had an engine swap.
Flex fuel cars, 100 % of the time get less mpg.
General motors didn't introduce that crappie active fuel management until 2007.
@@carlchapin8352 no engine swap what they did was at the Oklahoma plant put a flex fuel 5.3 naturally aspirated flex fuel engine instead of the standard 5.3 but believe it or not this has an AFM capability I was always wondering why Chevrolet was contacting me trying to upsell me on a new SUV and then I put two and two together. This is like the documentary who killed the electric car when General Motors came out with the ev1 a program in California to reduce carbon emissions then all of a sudden they decided to confiscate the vehicles from the leaseholders and Destroy them with the exception of a few for further research and development the difference is I own this vehicle free and clear
Seltos
husband and wife matching clothes but a good job
Thank you!
Kia Seltos
I'd say to ditch the new crossovers and drive the classic Mini at 2:32 but then I noticed it still has its' yellow UK number plate. Keep looking and do your vid about an original Canadian-spec one.
Kia Seltos rates higher 4.8 out of 5 for reliability and crash ratings. Trailblazer is a 3.5.
Id say the Trailblazer has a unibrow too.
Oddly enough, I prefer the trailblazer
My opinion Chevy as not improved and not fooled by its marketing. KIA has done their home work and got better and better over time!
Trailblazer. Only vehicle available in this comparison with Panoramic Roof "for the rear passengers - especially children - but adults, too", available power liftgate, better off-road (no overheating dual clutch like the Seltos). Only vehicle here with selectable AWD (for better fuel mileage), Heated steering wheel is rumored for 2022. Seltos doesn't have styling panache IMO. Out the door prices on Chevrolets are frequently lower than the competition - okay, blame their marketing department! Trailblazer
2022 does have a heated steering wheel, i was surprised it was on there
That's an EX not an SX you're testing
Don’t need heated steering wheel in Alabama,
Trailblazer has a power train warranty of 5/100k
Kia is better. I'm driving my 6th and I have a 2021 Seltos.
I don't think I'd get anything American made other than Tesla.
Janoy...Well, the good news (?) is that these are both made in Korea.
@@johnholst Exactly
Skip the Chevy. Very concerned a 3 cylinder (unproven) engine is undersized. There's a reason past cars w/ a 3 banger have been unreliable. This engine may work too hard (more so using the HVAC or with two passengers) and thus has greater odds of being troublesome. Might be a lease, but definitely not a buy.
yah that's in the past what's to say that manufacturers can't improve the longevity of a 3 cylinder engine.
Has a 5yr/100k warranty 🤷🏼♀️
As a 1.0L 3 cylinder owner you will not get 8.9/100 in the city, not even close.
Chevy trailblazer looks like Hyundai creta sold in south asian markets..
50 years of driving, Never have I thought "what I need is a heated steering wheel"
Once you have one, you never go back
Dont know where you live, but i need it every winter
a kia with a 5yr/60,000 mile vehicle warranty against a copy with general mess short warranty and inferior reliability..🤔 kia! duh.🙄
The Chevy - more power, looks better.
Between the two, for the money, I’d get a used RAV4 Hybrid 😂
Chevy? Never, ever, unless it free. Junk. All models. Kia wins this one. Just.
take my advice stay away from trailbilazer(gm) the engine is a trouble on the making !
Whichever you pick either lease it, sell it after 100,000km or buy an extended warranty. Don't expect good resale value either.
Chevy is better
I must of gotten a discount, my 2022 rs was 28k
on the sticker anyways
Don’t forget the KIA feature that lets you start it with a USB drive 😂😂
This couple is pushing Chevy.. but Seltos is a better deal
And why they didnt give the verdict like they did in Seltos vs Corolla cross video in favor of Corolla
seriously, don't anybody think the design language kia used on seltos is from when sportage looked like this in 2012. seltos looks stale
not in the slightest
