What's your favourite in this category? Would you consider the Sportage over the competition like the CX-5, CX-50, Tucson, Rogue or RAV4?
Forester
CX-50 1st
CX-5 2nd
Rogue 3rd
RAV 4th
I could be happy with a Forester Crossrek or Outback
Do you know if the CrossTrek will get a wilderness trim?
CX-5 and CX-50 are definitely my favourite. Followed by CR-V, Sportage, Tucson, Rogue, Forester, Tiguan and RAV4. Least favourite are Escape and Equinox. Outlander, Cherokee and Bronco Sport are mid-packs.
I do like it over the competition!
Of all the cars in this class that you have reviewed, I think the new Nissan Rogue checks more of the boxes for me than any of the other cars. It was not even on my radar until you guys reviewed it. I watch all your reviews and thoroughly enjoy them. Where are the fog lamps on autos? Are manufacturers doing away with them to cut costs? The Rogue still has them. I am going to do something next spring if these shortages have disappeared and vehicles are more readily available. I would like to see a hybrid in the Rogue. The Subaru Forester would be on my list if it had an engine and torque that would allow it to get out of its own way. In fact, it would be first on my list. If they were to come out with a hybrid with some tolerable HP and torque it would be my first choice... I'm not holding my breath.
We just bought the 2023 Sportage, and we are loving it! So quiet, quick engine, and so futuristic looking. I love how safe we feel in it too. Should never be in an accident with this car!
Look luck with that car after 50,000 miles. You will remember this text.
@@DJust_Me what happens to it after 50,000 miles?
“Its on the inside that counts”… my Mother always said. I assumed she was talking about me. Little did I know that she was forecasting my opinions on the K-‘backwards N’ design language. The KIA is quite impressive looking inside, no doubt; however I’m not so sure I could ever be emotionally moved by it’s exterior. But having recently discussed the design approach/language of Mercedes-Benz EQS (which I do not like) versus the latest BMW i7 (which I do like)… exterior looks certainly are subjective and can be very fluid. So maybe, it really is as my Mom always said about the inside counting for so much. And she was also right (hopefully) about me! Thanks for the video.
I've been waiting for this review Andrea and Zack. When you see this car up close its so giant. Looks good all around and importantly the rear is fab. Kia are upping the anti with every refresh or new vehicle launch. Nice one Andrea 👍
Thank you very much! You are right, Kia is producing such great vehicles with class-leading interiors.
@@andreaspencer9813 Absolutely Andrea, the ineriors are really class leading too.
Wow! This Kia Sportage looks amazing! I like this design compared to the 2016 to 2021. Amazing review Andrea and Zack!
Thank you so much!
Nice! A real shifter, buttons and a rear wiper too. I prefer the KIA look vs the Hyundai cousin. Can't wait till you get to review the hybrid version. Thanks!
I like how the headrests are shaped to have a bag holder directly on them. Such a smart idea. 8:02
Kia came a long way. The first (rental) Kia I drove literally had me laughing fast forward 15 years or so and I was considering the New Sorento VS the New Lexus NX. I ended up going for the latter but the fact that I was seriously considering the Kia speaks volumes . 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Yeah a few years ago i rented a tucson just to get around california while i was at a conference. Absolutely hated it. It was so cheaply made and the drivetrain was not smooth. I have a subaru legacy and outback and those are dramatically softer and smoother. The tucson just seemed like everything was just thrown together so cheaply.
LoL you were going to get that Lexus all along
@@RealityHurts923 Not if I had to wait a whole year for it. I have 0 patience.
I'm shocked that you guys actually like that toggle row of capacitive buttons for radio/HVAC. Personally I think it's annoying to create that extra step and not worth the space saving design benefit. Could also be extra distracting taking your eyes off the road longer.
I messed with it in person, it’s not bad at all. Much better than Hyundai’s piano black, no physical button or knob solution.
@@matt34003434 Agreed!
I just got my Sportage SX Prestige! And I am seriously in love. I use to have a 2018 Honda Accord touring and needed a taller vehicle. My accord was too low, and I looked and looked. I loved my accord and was not gonna let it go for just anything. Test drove the CX-50 and was not crazy about it and too small. When I sat in my Sportage, was mind blown with all the things it had. Cx-50 for $40,000 didn’t have most things.
Glad you got what you like. Everyone driving requirements are different. Cx 5 more sporty.
Beaware, Kia/Hyundai GDI motors will need valve intake cleaning (about every 15k miles) and combustion chamber cleaning (about every 50k miles) and they really don't mention it.
@@lonniebeal6032 good point
Great review! Do you know if Kia has plans to manufacture the Hybrid version in it's Georgia facility later in 2022?
Well it’s October 12th here in Ontario, Canada and tomorrow I pickup my new 2024 Kia Sportage X-line Limited in the Jungle Green colour. So looking forward to the experience and
also to driving it home for the missus to see and hopefully appreciate it.
Brian.
Another great review. In the pictures, it looks kind of controversial. But it looks superb in person. But on the same architecture, I probably will choose Tucson because of Kia's iffy dealer network in Canada vs Hyundai's strong network.
Fantastic job Kia - nice looking SUV and above all no CVT.
Cvt especially toyota/lexus is the most reliable transmission. I dont really understand the hate of cvts
When I saw ur review today, I just went to the kia dealer and test drive it. I think ,I am interested on buying it, if the numbers ($)get to what I expect to be.
The Koreans are creating beautiful vehicles these days with arguably the best hybrid / geared transmission system and the interiors are definitely moving up market, even rivalling some premium models.
They got German and Australian Car of the Year
You two do such a great job I often watch even when I have no interest in the particular vehicle. Example this Kia. I’m curious, who’s your typical viewer? Economically speaking? I’m interested in higher end European vehicles. Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Audi. Keep it up.
Great video. I just ordered a 2024 X Line last week. Im told it should arrive in November.
Based on what I am hearing in your video this is a very good product in market right now - has traditional gear shift, buttons, great looks, lots of space, beautiful interiors and best of all automatic transmission. I am sure the hybrid will do well.
I saw a Sportage the other day and it looked great. I would lean towards a CX50, but in these times a hybrid rav4 makes a lot of sense.
It looks like the KIA group has another major hit on it's hands...the interior is ultra modern without looking geeky and the PHEV will likely be a major winner. I would still probably go for the CX-50 if it had a PHEV but without it I would take the KIA hands down. We had ordered a Tucson PHEV but will try to switch to the Sportage as it seems so much better. Good job KIA!
I bought the Tucson....the exterior is much nicer to me....although the interior of the Kia is the better looking...one note on that gas mileage....if you aren't a lead foot...the 2.5L front wheel drive has so far averaged 35.3 MPG...in MIXED driving over 8k miles....that is super impressive to me....and far exceeds the manufacturer estimate....both the Tucson and Sportage are fantastic options.
I've ordered a Sorento SX to replace my 2018 Sportage SX Turbo. I wanted a more 'relaxed' ride. As you have reviewed the Sorento as well, how does the ride compare between the two?
I thought about it, but opted for the Hyundai Kona N. Nice review. Whether in Canada or here in the states, the price of fuel is much higher. The much longer warranties make the Kia/Hyundai vehicles a much better value for your dollar.
I love the look of the new Sportage. I purchased a 22 Tucson hybrid about 6 months ago and I love it.
I am very interested in both the Kia Sportage and the Hyundai Tucson, Hybrid version. The seats and steering feel would be the deciding factors. I would like a smoother ride than my RDX ASpecs which I like very much except for the rather stiff suspension. I like how Andrea's clothes always match the color of the vehicles... Always great to watch your evaluations!
Hyndai is more comfortable and will run until the sides fall off
My 2022 Tucson has a shifter 😎 N-Line baby.
I love this car, but for the value I think I gotta go for the 2023 Niro!
Oohh That’s a touch choice between the Sportage and Tucson. Package wise, Tucson is a winner. I love the interior of the Sportage. Great video Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻☕️☕️
The Tucson is another great competitor for sure. So glad you enjoyed the review.
Great review - especially explaining how the engine cuts on when 1) under enhanced demand ie putting the pedal down 2) if you need heat and the outside temps are very cold the engine cuts on 3) the difference between cars with and without heat pumps. Those 3 things are important to many PHEV drivers and reviewers often leave those tidbits out of their reviews. Kudos.
Thank you so much, we appreciate the kind words - Andrea
what a point of a heat pump, when you have -30? maybe -15 it's maximum for heat pump, after only engine heat. Plus heat pump give you less heat then engine, a lot of people complain about cold cabin. Heat pump probably work well for places like Vancouver area where you never get -30. In this case yes, heat pump work well.
🇺🇸👍🏻sport SUV design. Kia hitting another homerun. Interior ..wow. Only issue... reliable?
Yes it is .
I do believe it is, look up recent reliability. My 2015 Kia Rio has had no issues and it has more than 100K miles on it as well.
I have had 1 hyundai and 3 kia....all of them lasted 10 yrs and 150k with no issues...I don't think you can abuse them like a toyota...but if you keep up the recommended maintenance....you should have 10 years of reliable driving....all brands after 10 years are just a slow decline and constant repairs...in my opinion.
@@mkanyuh I do like 100k 10yr warranty. For looks the exterior and interior seems much better than any Japanese, American and even Europe best. I grew up with Toyota and Honda. Hyundai. Kia has gone along way in the last 20yrs.
Kia and Hyundai have bad engines! Abnormal oil consumption! Massive recall in progress! Get real! Quit promoting faulty ve!
Not with Kia dealers adding 10k to the price.
I really like what Hyundai/Kia are doing inside with interiors but people should still have concerns regarding reliability. This week there was a major class action lawsuit filed in the USA against both companies for excessive oil consumption in pretty much all engines they produce. This includes engines from 2009-2022!!! This is not just the old Theta 11(catch on fire)engines but brand new 2022 vehicles being delivered to customers right now. That doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling.
Toh-may-to, Toh-mah-to? Two time undefeated world war champion gets to decide how to properly pronounce "Sportage" IMO. 💪🏾
finally! also, *that's an insanely amazing value for a BASE TRIM* props to Kia!
Does this kia has the c d player i missed my c d player
no
I don’t get Kia and Hyundai……they can’t figure out how to carry a design language through its portfolio. Everybody loves the Telluride, why not have that styling carry through……interior looks quite nice, shame the exterior is such a miss….Sportage will continue to be bottom of the pack in this segment with this design. Kia and Hyundai need to figure this out if they ever want to unlock brand equity, otherwise they will continue being the control/private label of the auto industry. Fact
Test drove the LX trim last month and was super impressed especially the interior blew me away. Decided to Order the Sportage Hybrid Earlier this month. Can't wait.
Bought the Tucson hybrid about a month ago. Really curious to see the hybrid version of the sportage. No remorse or anything, just curiosity.
Is this the same company that makes the Telluride?
I want to like these vehicles by Kia and Hyundai because they offer so much, but I find it impossible to look past their designs.
You mentioned the diff in pronunciation of sportage (and mazda as well as honda pilot, peelo in quebec) but many Americans (amerinadians?, canamericans? ) living on the border use the Canadian pronunciation as do i.
I'd still spring for the Mazda CX5 but there's no denying that Kia and Hyundai are fearless when it comes to reinventing and innovating their designs. They go bold and they do give great value.
another great review, thank you again for your great work.
Nice looking car from Kia, yet not sure about these boomerang headlights !
What's interesting , this new Sportage has about exact power/torque of the CX-5 non-turbo ;
where many mentioned, the lack of power of the normal Mazda CX-5 / CX-30 ;
yet, this Sportage seems quick...
The 8-speed transmission makes all the difference ??
I love this interior, but it would drive me crazy to be freezing, reach for the knob and get the volume to max.
I have a RAV4 hybrid Cruiser (top trim) on order here in Perth, Australia, with a minimum 12 months delivery date. I do like both the Kia Sportage and the Hyundai Tucson, but given the highly valued reputation of Toyota, am happy with my choice.
Love your reviews, Zac and Andrea.
is it even possible to buy new kia sportage in US for MSRP ? I've visited two dealers, they are adding huge market adjustment
Great review, guys, as always! A pleasure to watch you! 👏👏
is always have issues within a year of driving, bad experience with them and NEVER go back to KIA. The RAV4 looks more pleasantly than this one. This one looks weird, stick between rugged and luxury looks, KIA went overhead with this design
This has been available in Australia for a couple of months… I have placed my order for a top of range diesel… In Australia it was also has locally tuned suspension.
See a lot of Toyota Highlander from the side
I think Kia did a good job with most of the car but those wheels are a hard no for me. I'm a wheel person and they've got to be right as they can really change how a car looks. Annoys me to think I'd buy a new car and then spend more to get wheels I like.
Waiting for this review. Great work Zack and Andrea. Booked the ex-premium trim on February and hopefully will get it by end of May.
Question: Will there be a comparison video between the Tucson and Sportage?
Thank you so much! Yes we will do a comparison between the Tucson and Sportage for sure. This Tuesday, it will be RAV4 vs. Sportage.
My wife has a 2022 Sportage. Neither of us like the front end on this new model. We think it's ugly.
i realy appreciate your work. Smart and entertaining and accurate. Having had numerous cars over many years; the insight you give is important. Owning an absolutely smashing Santa Fe Sport Turbo 2.0 Turbo (copper) since 2015; I am slowly looking for something newer. I find nothing of the quality for the bang for your buck zone. (SF Sport. 259 HP Turbo with every bell and whistle on Luxury model.) Carry on guys. Just watch the Sportage thought. Puny horsepowers. And just a thought from a guy who owned a 1981 Ddgde Charger 2.2 out of the box? (Mistake0.... Spend less time on talking about the looks of the car. We ALL look at them differently. imho, 2023 Sportage BORING. Even compared to my 2015 Santa Fe. Also. What the hell ever happened to colours? (Ayup. Let us make everyone boring and do it cheaply.) Cheers mates. You are doing well. (Ex Etobicoke boy here wth many many cars under his belt.)
Think I'm gonna wait for Mazda's new CX-60-70 PHEV. Lots more money than this but so much more power and more upscale materials.
I think Kia handles better even though they share the same chassis and powertrain.
I'm really loving the new look.
i dont like all these digital overloaded cockpits nowadays ! perhaps i search for another used Lexus with analog gauges ...perhaps a GS450H
I'll take a CX-50 please. The front fascia of Sportage with the bizarre boomerang running lights reminds me of a Pokémon character... or a 50s Edsel Bermuda station wagon. Excellent work as always, guys. Thank you 😊
15:15 The gas Tucson has a traditional shifter as well... I would bet, similar to the Sorento, the hybrid/PHEV will have the rotary shifter
Yes, you are right about that, the Sportage Hybrid and PHEV will have a dial - Andrea
That combined hvac/radio control is a hard no.
They use an entire cubic foot of volume for an old-fashioned shifter, when there are better and more space-efficient concepts, but then go all goofy on the most used controls in the car.
Too cold in Québec for the PHEV, Great product! I would wait for the hybrid. The price of gaz at 2$ and up maybe this summer.
I was waiting for this review. I just put 500 cad deposit for spotage phev. Great review.
Can you put exterior color in the title or tell at the start of the video.
Anyone know if this standard 2.5 gas only engine is both direct AND port injection? The Hyundai sister vehicle with same engine says that it is right on the window sticker.
I must say I make a better driver and a poor passenger. My wife on the other hand is great at both. Must be a guy control thing.
Hi,
I watch almost all of your videos and you both are doing a splendid job at helping people with your reviews. I have a question and I really need some real unbiased opinion. I can buy either rav4 limited hybrid or sportage hev sx model. I live in Toronto and people keep saying don’t buy kia as its not powerful enough and its life is not long. Please suggest if you had only these choices and you would keep the car at least for 7 yrs, what would you go for considering Toronto’s driving needs.
Here in Australia the top model is called the “GT”available in petrol and diesel ,our cost is approximately $59 To $62 thousand ,so if you are getting roughly the same model for around $40 thousand you are getting a better deal than we do here😩
Design wise it's okay i think Kia surely has a in your face design..
Hello,
Im from Toronto.
I have a Kia seltos SX turbo on order which is coming in August.
After i watched this video make me think to change it to Sportage EX trim. (Almost same price) you think it a good choice??
I like that they got rid of the CVT, I sold my old 2017 accord because of the CVT even it it has no issues but not speedy enough and got a 2019 accord with 10 speed automatic it's way better !! I like the interior of the sportage more than the Rav4 for sure!!
I drove a Sportage a few weeks back and haven't stopped thinking about it!?! Definitely plan to add this and the K5 to my driveway before years end, Lord willing 💯🔥😤
Kia/ Hyundai is on fire...
Andrea...I only watch these videos cause of you...you’re a sight to look at baby girl...I’m loving it...😍🤤😍🤤
this engine is close to mazda 2.5NA, 187hp, 186lbs-torque, 6-speed... which one is faster?
2:38 Andrea your steering wheel should be about min 5cm closer to you so that your ellbows are more angled when driving straight. This allows you to turn the wheel min 90° without taking hands off it ;-)
Thanks for the great review. That residential neighborhood is very impressive!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it - Andrea
@@Motormouth... While I was watching your video my dealer in Salt Lake called asking if I wanted to order one! No X-Pro trim on Hybrids so would go for the SX Prestige.
Great review as always. i like Kia. i am on my second Kia Sorento a 2019 and had a 2016 before. Both V6 awds. The new Sportage is really nice.
Also the windscreen has tungsten wiring to de-ice. No scraping windshields anymore
How does the Sportage handle at highway speeds, say 80 mph (128 kpm)? Does it get floaty or does it stay anchored to the road and give the driver a sense of confidence?
The front looks a little similar to the new mitsubishi, but a lot better in my opinion. I REALLY like the way it looked in white! I've only liked a few cars in white, one is the new Lexus IS 350 fsport, BMW m340i with the shadowline package, and this is the other. Normally white cars look like company fleet cars to me, but this one doesn't. Well done Kia. And what you say about being iffy on the first generation of a design, but it growing on you later is so true. When lexus started putting those big grills on everything I hated it, but now I love them. Especially the spindled f-sport grills, they look great in my opinion.
There is no chip shortage anymore than there was an "energy crisis" in 1973!
I loved the Sportage. BUT steering to vague on the highway.
Love the vehicle and the review.
I own a 2019 Sportage EX prem and will be completing the lease in OCT this year. If we get Hybrid models by Summer, this one is definitely my next car😇.. Love Kia👏🏻👌
YES....no CVT, i like the EU version, shorter wheelbase...
what happened to the night time shots? would have liked to see the rear lightbar
People really need to do the math on Hybrids. For example my father was considering a 2023 Sportage hybrid until he found out the wait was over a year. The Sportage hybrid is $45k taxes in vs his new Sportage gas at $36k. He would need to drive the hybrid for 9 years to make back the upfront cost difference in fuel savings! Bottom line you arent really saving anything with the premium most Hybrids come with!
I missed the night time. Are you not doing it anymore?
In the Canadian market you will not find a better value than the Sportage LX FWD. It is thousands less than any of its competitors other than the Tuscon. $36k CAD with all taxes and fees included in Ontario. Do not let dealers force you into mandatory extended warranty or any of the other profit boosters they are trying to force upon customers.
Oh, and Canadians customers get the South Korean built Sportage vs US built which should be a huge plus!
Kia has the best design. I’m not even looking at the others
BEWARE of system failure in Kia in few weeks/months time. Lacks quality and service. I have personally experienced this. Does any one know if we had these kind of problems on Toyota or Honda? I should have opted for Toyota or Honda. But instead went with fancy “Kia Sportage 2023” and it’s not working now. I don’t know if it’s a quality issue or the way the dealership is taking care of new vehicles. But this is a serious issue for 40k worth car
I'm telling you, there's always something with this brand. Not having wireless Carplay is a pretty big deal. Kia wants to give me one of these things because the last one I bought was such a bust. I'm trying to determine if I want to trust this brand again since I got burned so badly. I have a 2019 Sportage and this year I had to get an engine replaced that took over 3 months to repair, and then one month later someone broke into it and attempted to steal it, which took a month to repair. Some insurance companies won't even insure the Kia's Sportage anymore or they're charging high rates because of all the horrible malfunctions. Can't really trust this brand after being down a car almost half a year. Buyers beware.
See how Toyota has heat pump in their hybrids. No wonder Toyota is most reliable brand . Wouldn't buy this Kua just lease it . But Toyota Rav4 hybrid.
Only Toyota plug-in's have a heat pump, not the hybrids, they also use the gas engine to generate heat.
$40k US, cars are just getting too expensive
I won't buy it but my friend bought one of these and it's def nice. really changing the impression of "kia".
187 horses?
Y a w n.
6:15 Wow where is this at? The forest trees just look stunning!
The problem I find with Kia and Hyundai their designs get dated very fast.
