I don't think very many still function, many of these vehicles which you saw were mothballed incase they were needed even though they were obsolete and where then picked up and possibly restored by some very passionate people. German vehicles were scrapped or abandoned and getting one might would be hard, much less parts. It might have even made you look like a nazi sympathizer if you got one not long after the war!
I was there! Celebrated my 60th birthday ( June 6th) in Normandy. I saw this parade. Best trip of my life....
I hope they keep making this every year, this should not be forgotten
