Why I PICKED An OPEN Box Cold Air INTAKE Over CLOSED Box **2019 Mustang GT**

  • Recently I added and JLT cold air intake to my 2019 mustang gt. Some people have asked the reason to why I went with an open box cai over the closed box versions. Here is a little explanation and maybe a little helpful information for you when ordering your own cold air system for your own mustang.

    I did an injen evolution closed cai with a tune. It looks much better than stock and with the tune made my butt dyno tingle. Makes a nice sound as well. Very happy with it. Temps seem fine. Just a street car for me.

      Street mostly for me as well. Eventually I'll get back to the strip if they ever open up. Butt dyno definitely approved though

    Air temp is one thing but the air volume counts as well. Bib filter and wider diameter pipe would allow more air for the engine and it would affect performance. I'm glad you're heading towards dyne again, I wonder what the new results would be.

      Should gain a fair bit hopefully. You can definitely feel the difference when driving

    I know this is an older video but for ppl wondering I went from a stock box with a drop in k&n filter to a jlt just like in the video. Without a custom tune the car picked up about 2/10ths at the track from a 12.21@119mph to a 12.06 @ 121mph. Only other thing that was changed was I did have to use a sct bdx handheld which has the option to use the stock box intake or jlt. So it wasn’t technically a custom tune just a generic tune from sct that accounts for the bigger diameter intake tube. The weather and da were actually better when I ran the 12.2 than when I went back 2 weeks later and ran the 12.0 with the intake.

    I just placed a K&N panel filter in mine and called it a day. I didn’t want a tune for a CAI but I get it, it does look better with an open induction.

    • @CanadianCruisin
      @CanadianCruisin  3 роки тому +1

      If you don't want a tune the K&N filter is perfect. Gets a little extra air without the need for anything to excessive

    I went Ford Performance calibration tune with the larger throttle body and same intake as the gt350. Living in FL heat soak can be a big problem. I have the ram air hood that does help keep things a little more stable. The only issue with the hood is sometimes I can suck to much air in so my air fuel ratio can suffer as the tune doesn't account for it. It's usually only an issue on windy days. Once my warranty is up I'll get a better tune.

    • @CanadianCruisin
      @CanadianCruisin  3 роки тому +1

      I've heard only good things with the Ford performance stuff. I never thought about the air fuel issue but good to know.

  • @goldenmyth3499
    @goldenmyth3499 2 роки тому +3

    Out of curiosity.... isn't the point of buying the CAI not just the filter your also buying the bigger tube for the intake so it can push more air through? And with a 91 tune push more power. So say a 2015-2017 a closed lid CAI with a bigger mm tube would lead to better performance? As well as not worrying about increased inlet Temps because it's not sucking in engine bay hot air? I'm trying to understand, I promise I'm not trying to be rude 😅 I really wanna know. Only vehicle I've modified the hell out of performance wise is a motorcycle.

    I was going to say those hear extractors are functional but then you corrected yourself. Like you said though they are small and I think Ford should've done better. At some point I will replace my hood I think to get better air flow. Maybe a GT 500 hood? Anyway, I used to think the increased air flow of the JLT would offset the increase in heat for making horsepower, but I'm not so sure anymore. I think for me i may just stick with a closed box but go with the one from Air Raid which has a clear lid so you can see the filter. Best of both worlds.

    • @CanadianCruisin
      @CanadianCruisin  3 роки тому +1

      Air raid got some good reviews as well. At the end of the day I think it would take a lot more warm air to feel the car lose power than most realize. But if your looking to get a specific time I guess every millisecond would matter.

      Roush makes some good stuff as well. I was just set on using Lund as my tuner and also the roush box was a little to bulky for my liking. My friends 2019 had it on there though and it was pretty good

    I typically see about 3C warmer than ambient temp with the same intake on a 2015 GT PP1 with BAMA tune. I run the 93 Race tune since we get higher octane gas versus North America. Because I am in Germany and get to use the autobahn and wrap out the tach, it did make a difference at higher speeds. Sounds also is nice too. Great video brother. Keep up the excellent work. By the way, they make a waterproof sock that you can put on the filter that will ensure it does not suck in water.

    • @CanadianCruisin
      @CanadianCruisin  3 роки тому

    A buddy of mine has a GT350, and the open box seems better designed to seal against the trunk. I live in Texas where summers are much hotter, so I'm sticking with the closed box.

    So the MAF isn't keeping up eh ? Let it heat soak, then give it a blast with the air gun and watch how fast it drops on the dash. Also the vents on the hood isn't for heat, it's for high pressure relief at speed. Cheers.

    • @CanadianCruisin
      @CanadianCruisin  3 роки тому

      No the sensor won't keep up. Yes it will drop when driving but only 1 degree at a time and the seconds between each drop are dead on so it only reads like that. Your Temps will be down way before your reading is accurate especially if it's been heat soaked for a bit.
