Something I discovered, as a man, that makes life so much better was feminine hygiene wipes. Everybody's tender parts are tender, and getting that extra swipe of clean "down there" makes all the difference. I don't usually bring any on flights, but on multi-day backpacking trips they're a game changer. I finally felt like everything got clean! Toilet paper alone can't do that. Yes, there are plenty of options for potty wipes, but the fact that these are individually wrapped puts them on the next level. Always be sure to properly dispose of the wipe and the wrapper, and never flush either.
I’m a well Seasoned traveler and backpacker. I recently went to Hawaii with a large portion of my family, my uncle passed away and we sent him out sea. When we got to the airport to meet our family, we all flew together on the same flight, I noticed everyone had packed way more than I did. I was asked multiple times how I packed 6 days of clothes and all the other essentials, in my backpack( Camelbak snowblast ). I said, there’s this UA-cam channel and for some reason this lady has all the tips for packing. She packs exactly the same way I do. It’s kinda weird. The only difference between us, is I pack my longboard unless I’m traveling for snowboarding. I showed her your channel and now she has watched all of your videos and tries to tell me what I’m doing wrong in my packing 😂 I love your videos! Keep up the great work!! My mom has three vacations planned for next year and she’s flying for all of them. ❤

Putting the yoga/tennis ball in a sock helps you to reach more places on your back because you're better able to get it to just the right spot by maneuvering it with the top of the sock.
Electrolyte powder is something I totally agree with. I also make sure I take a small ziplock bag with some chewable aspirin, gauze pads, adhesive strips and some disinfectant wipes. The just in case emergency pack.
Noise cancelling headphones are essential. I prefer the classic over-the-ear style. Yes, they’re bulky and take up room in my personal item bag, but that’s a trade off I gladly make for the peace and quiet they provide.
Great list and ideas. I have just a couple more items I personally would add. The first is a small plastic bag, like the kind you get at grocery stores for fruit. You can fold it very small and it’s great to use as a garbage bag on the plane keeping you from having to use the seat back pocket. The second is an Airplane Pocket cover! I love mine! Not only does it cover the tray, it gives you a much easier and convenient place to place all of the items you are using during the flight. AND you don’t have to touch the seat back pocket which can be nasty!
Megan, For the heck of it, on Wednesday, I flew from ATL to LAS to SEA to DEN and back to ATL. Thursday, I was at the Men's restroom at SEA. As I was washing my hands I noticed, to my amazement, a pantyliner dispenser. Thinking that dispenser is in the wrong bathroom, I also thought it might be a good idea for us gents because that area does get a wee-bit humid when sitting for hours. And body powder is not something I carry on flights. Thank you for connecting the dots... I agree.
They are there for transmen. But honestly, all people can benefit from hygiene wipes and liners. Over the years I’ve been hearing that more cis-men are wearing pads and liners to help capture moisture in their nether regions.
@@PortableProfessional When you said yoga ball, I was thinking of those huge ones that your dog could probably fit inside and wondered how that was a small item.
I use the NUUN tablets for electrolytes. I like their handy carry tube and the fact they are in disc form vs powder. No potential mess! Just ordered the fan. Thanks! Safe travels.
I use a simple paper clip to attach the zipper pulls together. Much less expensive than the commercial clips. It adds a level of complication to open the bag. I also have a water bottle with UV water purification button as some water is questionable, as the water on the plane can be.
I purchased that JISULIFE personal fan about 4 months ago because our summer here in Arkansas was dreadfully hot! And with late Spring storms causing multiple power outages, this little "wonder fan" proved invaluable! Being able to charge my phone and also use the flashlight feature was so helpful, not to mention the fan to cool off! I took it on a trip to Seattle in August and it was great while having to sit for 45 minutes on the tarmac. A MUST for our personal item bag! Thanks for the other great tips too Megan 😉
Happy Birthday Ollie! I ensure to bring electrolyte powder mix and an empty smart water bottle which is very slim. I fill up after the security check point, hydrate a bit and top off prior to boarding.
That fan is such a necessity for me!!! It has saved me during horrible turbulence (from 🤢) and now, I carry it in my purse for those ridulous perimenopause hot flashes!!
That's a great thing to try, a liner. I notice the sweats if I'm sitting at my fake leather desk chair for a long period of time. I also like to use my car's seat cooler feature in the summer to keep comfortable down there. If you are cooped up on a long flight and aren't moving at all, this is a great tip. Thank you for sharing!
Love the fan with built-in powerbank. I'll have to search for one of those. You forgot one vital must-have irrespective of flight length: a roll of lavatory paper. Nothing worse than suddenly needing to use an airport or aircraft WC only to find that their paper has run out.....
You don't even need a full roll, just let it get down to about the 1/3 point, squish it flat and stick it in a zip lock bag. I even take one on road trips because you can't guarantee the rest rooms will have paper. 'You never never know when you've gotta gotta go...'
As always, very useful items. Tell Ollie Happy Birthday! The electrolyte balance is more important than people realize. Can cause a very bad day when depleted. You make the awkward topics amusing, well done!
You forgot to mention that the fan has quite a powerful flashlight too. Can be a little finicky, needs a long press. Got mine for a trip and use it all the time.
The fan is not only a fan and a charger. It is also a flashlight! I just checked your link because I have a similar one. I was packing a muscle roller because I actually wind up in pain in my hip area when sitting too long. I finally was questioned about it going through security recentlyso I did some research on Amazon looking for an alternative and I found this very small Solacium Manual Massage Roller Ball. It is so compact and amazing for rolling out the aches and pains of sitting too long. I absolutely recommend it for travel as well as for every day use. Thanks for all your tips!!
Great list. I was thrown by the transition to teeth cleaning at the end of the ear pain segment. Thank you so much for using UA-cam chapters. It's so convenient when I want to later go back and check something.
Combine a carabiner clip and plastic free (wire) pegs. Light weight, small and fantastic for hanging heaps of stuff up. E.g clothes, cleaning cloths, exfoliating gloves, towels
I love the new haircut, well, it’s new to me! 😆 I just hold my phone close to me when I’m typing in passcodes or passwords. I have a lacrosse ball. I won’t even have space for that little fan in my personal bag 😬, no carry-on just checked bag. I have Liquid IV packages and Pedialyte packages just in case… I will get a bottle of water after security. I have those little TSA locks for each set of zippers on my backpack. For using the restroom on the plane and leaving my room, along with a Stainless Steel Security Cable to link both bags together to the bed in my room! Sadly, as a preventative to keep my bags in my room while I’m gone!!! 🤷🏽♀️ I’ve always had gum, but Sudafed for those times when it has been REALLY BAD 😢, I say that’s the number one reason why babies are crying!!! I have AirPods Pro and Bose QC35. I have my thermos for hot water and tea bags, Vapur Flexible Collapsible Wide Mouth Anti-Bottle for water only.
Thanks for keeping us updated on things that can improve the quality of airline travel. Your tips are economical and practical. I always travel with earplugs, noise-cancelling headphones, an insulated travel mug, and a power cell to recharge electronics - in case of delays, cancelled flights and non-functioning power outlets in gate areas or aircraft.
I love the zip clips... but... They are easy to attach, however, if you have limited motor skills, suddenly you need tools to open your bag. Nails break in the springs, you get pinched, and the pain and awkwardness... but then again, there are slightly larger carabiners that have sliding or turning parts to open the spring gate which are less awkward to use.
Those smaller double clips do have weaker springs too! I also have the screw tight too. And yes I have a couple that seem to take two strong men to open, too!
If you want the fan get the slightly bigger version, same brand Jusulife, but a double sized battery. 4800mah vs 2000mah. You wont notice the size difference, but it works 2.5 times as long. Currently they are the same price and some sales make the bigger battery one cheaper tyan the little one. I have both and always opt for the big one. Blades are about ⅓ inch longer but it feels much different. In the plane I use it to blow someones smelly air back at them.
I always ask for an aisle seat near the toilet. All of the Asian airlines are good about accommodating special needs and requests (when possible). A.A. Is not always willing to consider these requests sans paying for an upgrade.
Drink a pint of salt water first thing every morning. Take electrolyte capsules. These work better than electrolyte drinks and powders you add to drinks. This enables the water to enter the cells and far less to be peed out into the toilet.
I used to take a tiny humidifier in long international flights. It was a humidifier you could plug a water bottle to. So the tiny water bottles they gave me in the plane fit perfectly and it made the flight more comfortable
When it comes to dehydration, I just make sure I have a water bottle or I buy one at the airport and then refill it (if I need to) before boarding, that way I always have water, and I try to force myself to drink some water about every hour if possible to ensure I'm still hydrated. This is especially important if you eat or drink (soda or other beverages that are not water or juice) while flying IMO. The carabiner clips are also helpful if you are walking around cities where theft may be a bigger concern and just something good to have with you in general for clipping stuff to your bag or keeping things together (like zippers, or even clipping bags together). I will say that I have heard that in some cases though, putting food into the thermos may result in you having to dump it out or eat it before you go through security. Best case scenario other than not caring, is they may ask you to eat some of it to ensure it's not something harmful. But I have considered putting food into one, not so much for while on the plane but even if I go for a hike or something and want to keep something cold or warm, as it's much smaller than say a lunch back with a freezer pack in it. One other very important travel essential that some people do forget, is a PEN and maybe a small notebook. The pen is helpful if you need to fill out paperwork at the airport and just something you should have. Same with a small notebook although not always necessary, but i have found it can be faster/easier to just write something down quick than trying to type it into a note on my phone, plus if your phone battery dies then youre out of luck, so a pen and a small notebook are also things I've started bringing with me, whether I'm flying domestically or internationally.
It's not just the hot planes, but the shuttle buses. We experienced the joys of the Humberto Delgado International Airport (aka Lisbon, Portugal) a couple of years ago, and they kept us on the non-air-conditioned shuttle buses for quite a while in the hot sun! That electrolyte idea is a good one! (And remember, TAP = "Take Another Plane.") Thanks again for a great video.
A friend of mine that usually travels with just a personal item bag (usually a backpack) told me she packs a garbage bag and then puts her back pack in that before putting under her seat. You have no idea when the floor was last cleaned and this stops the backpack from transferring this dirt to your clothes!
I have recurring lower back pain, so I'll definitely be packing a tennis or yoga ball on my upcoming trip; a privacy screen for my phone sounds like a good idea, not just for flying, but also for riding public transit; and I'll also be checking my local health food store for my favourite brand of electrolyte powder. Happy birthday Ollie, and safe travels everyone!
The yoga ball is big. Cat size rubber balls that are medium hard can work even better for your feet. Also, you may want to take extra magnesium if you cramp up. Stress means your body needs more of it than during a normal day.
The gum is a must have for me also. Also using the panty liner on any long travel days - have previously told some of my travel companions about this. Love the carabiner idea!
Thanks again for all the tips, going back to Estonia in April, when I went last April I didn't have any ear problems, but in the 90's when I flew I always had a day recovery after flying.
I love your dog LOL. I never depend on the outlets on the plane. They suck most the time so I always have a couple power banks. I think the panty liner is a brilliant idea.
we've got the same dog balls for our golden retriever (who will be 4 next month)... it's the only dog toy he's ever had that's lasted more than a few days without starting to fall apart from his strong bite (and we've had the same 2 for years!!!) for electrolytes, I like the Daily ones from Nuun Hydration (pronounced "none")... they're effervescent tablets that come 10 in a tube, inexpensive, & VERY convenient for travel (the Sport ones are great too, for outdoor activities in summer, whether it's exercise, or a day at the beach or a theme park)
I just recently had a long international trip and got a gadget that holds my phone and clips it to the tray table when it's up, so the screen is hanging in front of me. That way I don't have to hold it, or even angle it, to use it. I download from UA-cam, Netflix, Prime, etc., before I leave, and have all of the things I find entertaining at my fingertips! You can also use it to hold and angle the phone on a flat surface if you're waiting in a lounge somewhere on a long layover. Also, here's a tip for that privacy screen ... mine causes my fingerprints to not work very well, so if you normally use fingerprints, use your face instead to unlock the screen.
@trinablum7102 I got it from Amazon. Sorry, UA-cam won't let me post a link, but here's the title for it: "Perilogics Airplane Phone Holder Mount Universal in Flight Hands Free" Hopefully that's enough to help you track it down. Let me know if it doesn't, and I'll see what other identifying info I can gather to find it in a search. 🙂
I'd packed my Yoga Tune Up balls & Roll Model Method balls in my carry on, but it triggered the TSA scan so they took minutes to chec;k if they were bombs or not... This was several years ago so it might be a lot quicker for the TSA inspection now. (The rubber balls are safer & more comfortable than tennis balls, tlhough! There are a variety of ways to roll the fascia & muscles -- Jill Miller (the creator of the balls & methods) has a book called The Roll Model: A Step-by-Step Guide to Erase Pain, Improve Mobility, and Live Better in Your Body. I recommend it!) I was planning to bring hot food in an Ironflask thermos food jar for my upcoming flight. But I didn't know gum would help with the air pressure in the ears! Thanks for the tips, Megan! 💖
I'm getting a privacy screen! Cool. I agree about moments when you need to enter passwords in public, or just don't want the person next to you somewhere to see your text messages.
I love the fan and don’t travel without it. I use it at night to fight stuffy rooms and white noise. It runs all night at low speeds and 3 hours at high speed. I didn’t know I could use it as a power bank.
October 8, 2024: New to your channel. Love the items that you are showing and also the security points. The carbiners are going to make nice little unexpected gifts not only at the holidays but maybe a thank you. Add the mini carbiner in a simple note card/envelope (old school here😊). Hey Halloween is coming up and maybe for that teenager doing a little “Boo” treat bag put this in!
I carry personal wipes (in addition to the panty liner trick). Dude Wipes and Summers Eve make small, individually wrapped wipes for bathroom use. I also found a brand called Pure Active that makes large, individually wrapped wipes for full body. It’s nice to be able to freshen up between long flights. (I’ve been to Asia several times and after being on a plane to Tokyo for 14 hours, having a 4 hour layover and then having another 5 hour flight, these were a life saver).
I have the mini fan and love it, too. Why does no one ever talk about it being a flashlight, too??? It works so much better than your cellphone. I used mine several times recently in Tonga to walk down the dark path to my cottage.
Get Ollie something nice for his B-day, my dogs split a rotisserie chicken after the successful trip to the groomer. I usually just use the air jets when a fellow traveler thinks their gas will go unnoticed, but the little fan would be sweet and send a message.
I hooked my neck pillow to my backpack and the rude and angry gate agent told me I would have to check it because I had too many items. So I smashed it into my backpack and took it back out as soon as I was seated. Nonsense.
Carbonated water is also a diuretic. If you’re a middle aged woman like me, you’ll want to avoid that 😂 You really don’t need electrolytes in your water if you have access to food. I have a masters degree in exercise science and regularly practice myofascial release (foam rolling). I use a ball to roll under my feet all the time but I have never once thought to bring it with me when I travel. DUH! I use a Sherpani bag when I travel and it has built in anti theft zippers among other deterrents. I love that bag.
My finger print function on my phone won't work with a protective screen; too bad there weren't privacy screens you can put on and take off when needed.
I use my foot ball every trip BUT I don’t use it in my hands - it’s been on floors everywhere - it would need an exceptional cleaning to be used on my back etc.
@@PortableProfessional Thank you for all of the great tips! We have two big trips with flights coming up in the next 8 weeks and your videos have been a big help for us in getting ready.
I’m glad that I use an Apple AirTag not only in my checked luggage, but also in my carry-on backpack/personal bag. As I was exiting the plane after a 12+ hour flight to Japan, I noticed that my backpack was missing from a different location bin from my seat. I was surprised that I was able to locate that another passenger had my backpack which I later found was similar to my own. We were still on the plane all standing awaiting our turn to disembark. I guess I was a little surprised that I located her while still on the plane. She said she also had an iPhone which I am guessing was location convenient?

It's not just the hot planes, but the shuttle buses. We experienced the joys of the Humberto Delgado International Airport (aka Lisbon, Portugal) a couple of years ago, and they kept us on the non-air-conditioned shuttle buses for quite a while in the hot sun! That electrolyte idea is a good one! (And remember, TAP = "Take Another Plane.")
Thanks again for a great video.
Happy Birthday, Ollie!
The yoga / tennis ball and carabiner tips really got me thinking. Thanks, Megan!
A friend of mine that usually travels with just a personal item bag (usually a backpack) told me she packs a garbage bag and then puts her back pack in that before putting under her seat. You have no idea when the floor was last cleaned and this stops the backpack from transferring this dirt to your clothes!
Great tip! Happy travels, Fiona!
Glad you found the video helpful! Ollie appreciates the birthday wishes!
Glad you enjoyed watching!
You always bring great value!
Thanks again for all the tips, going back to Estonia in April, when I went last April I didn't have any ear problems, but in the 90's when I flew I always had a day recovery after flying.
Have a super trip to Estonia!
I love your dog LOL. I never depend on the outlets on the plane. They suck most the time so I always have a couple power banks. I think the panty liner is a brilliant idea.
I agree! Some type of power bank is a must!
great stuff as always Frenchie!!
Thank you, Chris!
we've got the same dog balls for our golden retriever (who will be 4 next month)... it's the only dog toy he's ever had that's lasted more than a few days without starting to fall apart from his strong bite (and we've had the same 2 for years!!!)
for electrolytes, I like the Daily ones from Nuun Hydration (pronounced "none")... they're effervescent tablets that come 10 in a tube, inexpensive, & VERY convenient for travel (the Sport ones are great too, for outdoor activities in summer, whether it's exercise, or a day at the beach or a theme park)
I always carry some kind of snack. a granola bar or a protein bar, or something like that.
Use that same fan every flight. Works great. Miss individual vents on planes.
Thanks Megan, great video, as always.
Yay, thank you!
Happy Birthday, Ollie!
Great tip for when using a privacy screen! Happy Travels!
What’s the gadget for your phone that clips to the tray table?
@trinablum7102 I got it from Amazon. Sorry, UA-cam won't let me post a link, but here's the title for it: "Perilogics Airplane Phone Holder Mount Universal in Flight Hands Free" Hopefully that's enough to help you track it down. Let me know if it doesn't, and I'll see what other identifying info I can gather to find it in a search. 🙂
Always look forward to your videos. Love from Zimbabwe!!❤
Thanks for the list. I’ll buy the mini carabiners. I’ve been using twist ties but the carabiners will be much more convenient.
Glad you enjoyed watching! I used the twist tie also but I much prefer the carabiners.
Hi Megan, new subscriber, thank you for all the travel tips , what kind of microphone are you using? T.I.A
As a guy, I usually fold up some TP or a paper hand towel. It never occurred to me to buy made-for-purpose liners.
I'm getting a privacy screen! Cool. I agree about moments when you need to enter passwords in public, or just don't want the person next to you somewhere to see your text messages.
I would add those bluetooth adapters. No more being tethered to wires. Best of all, you don't miss anything when visiting the loo...lol
I love the fan and don’t travel without it. I use it at night to fight stuffy rooms and white noise. It runs all night at low speeds and 3 hours at high speed. I didn’t know I could use it as a power bank.
What a great little gadget it is!
Great video, as always! I can see the real star of the videos is Ollie! Ha ha
Beautiful young lady, you always gives great ideas on traveling .I admire your humility . God bless you and yours .
Thank you so much, Valerie🤗
PANTYLINER - I use daily and my daughters do also!
You definitely feel fresh when removed.
I have the antispy screen protector and the exact same fan highly recommended
Love that fan! Thanks for watching!
I just bought the mini fan. Thanks!
Great! Hope you enjoy it!
Happy Birthday Olly Doggie 🐶 ❤️🙏
I use Nuun for all my electronics, immune, vitamins, sporadic hydration.
I like the Honeypot brand individual wipes. Well actually I love all their products.
Mismo! especially that fan! TY
You’re welcome! Happy travels!
Great video as usual. Happy 4th Birthday Ollie!! 🎂🎉🐶🐾
Thank you, Denise! I’ll pass the birthday wishes along to Ollie!
Happy Sunday megan hope you are having a amazing weekend ❤😊😊❤
6:47: Or you could use the free Valsalva maneuver, which scuba divers use to equalize air pressure in their ears.
Happy 4th Birthday to Ollie! Also, thank you for the informative videos as always. Appreciate them a lot. Cheers! 😁👍
Ollie thanks you for the birthday wishes and I thank you for watching today! Happy travels!
Happy 4th birthday, Ollie! 🎉 🥳
HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY OLLIE!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Happy Birthday Olie. Great tips as always Megan
Happy birthday Ollie🎂
Ollie looks great! Happy birthday, good boy! I love your recommendations but I always forget the gum! Bad on me for that, Megan!! Take care!
Ollie appreciates the birthday wishes! Have a great week Patrick!
I hooked my neck pillow to my backpack and the rude and angry gate agent told me I would have to check it because I had too many items. So I smashed it into my backpack and took it back out as soon as I was seated. Nonsense.
Carbonated water is also a diuretic. If you’re a middle aged woman like me, you’ll want to avoid that 😂
You really don’t need electrolytes in your water if you have access to food.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY OLLIE!
Electrolyte powder, that's something one's personal PCP can determine if it's necessary/if there is a deficiency.
Nice thumbnail. Wow good tip.
Thumbs up 👍
My finger print function on my phone won't work with a protective screen; too bad there weren't privacy screens you can put on and take off when needed.
Another viewer suggested using facial ID if you have it. Not sure how well that works. Thanks for watching!
Happy Birthday Ollie🥰🎾
Happy Birthday, Ollie!
Happy birthday ollie
I use my foot ball every trip BUT I don’t use it in my hands - it’s been on floors everywhere - it would need an exceptional cleaning to be used on my back etc.
Can you recommend a travel steamer for Europe? Thanks
Happy Birthday Ollie!!! 🐶🐾🦴
Thanks for watching!
@@PortableProfessional Thank you for all of the great tips! We have two big trips with flights coming up in the next 8 weeks and your videos have been a big help for us in getting ready.
That is great to hear! Enjoy your travels!
