    Matt, I agree with you.
The carbon footprint of moving the cars to a race in Asia has a larger effect than the cars running all season. Developing electric/hybrid/simply greener trucks (or using trains) would make the sport much more green without tarnishing the action on the track. The creation of the cars is also likely to be less green than their season's running as parts are developed all over the world.
These new measures have not only nullified the racing due to driving for a lap delta (as some people say, the cars have always been performance limited, in the 70's they were gearbox limited, the 80's were turbo limited... but they were able to develop their limiting parts, they can't change the Pirelli tyres and development on the new engines will only be quick for the works teams, taking time to help improve the mid-field), they have also failed to reduce the carbon footprint of the sport by any noticeable amount. They could run cars with the 36L Rolls-Royce airplane engine instead of the 1.6L and the effect on the overall sport's carbon footprint would be negligible. The best way I can see, for reducing the sport's emissions, is to alter the transport used by the teams (I don't see a way of regulating this, it would have to be the team's responsibility) and to cut out the stupid oil money races in Asia, like Bahrain, using more European tracks, like Austria (the A1 ring), France (Magny-Cours), both German tracks (the Hockenheimring and the Nürburgring).
Some people have argued the point the F1 is helping to develop hybrid technology for or future road cars. While this is true, series like WEC and ALMS are really the better place for this kind of development (they are prototypes after all). F1 doesn't need to take this route.
F1 needs to return to its rightful place, atop the tree of motor sports. I'm not saying that we need to return to the dangerous world of the 70's; what I am saying is that we need a Formula whereby the cars create a feeling of wonder and excitement and where the drivers are able to make a lot more of the decisions without being controlled by the electrics in the engine, a Formula where the racing is competitive for everyone, not just those with a Mercedes engine and where the drivers are viewed as manic speed demons with unbelievable control and finesse, not just some meat that presses buttons on a steering wheel, a Formula where the teams are able to turn the cars up to eleven, creating absolute monsters and where the lap times improve every season, a Formula where cars are allowed to run with full down-force and where ingenuity and exploiting genuine loop-holes are applauded.
I want to see a Formula 1 that is so far above all of the other sports will give an eighty year old man a semi when he watches, that everyone will want to sit in front of the television for two hours and marvel at all of the splendor before them and that Formula 1 will get its prime-time news slot as it is the hot-spot of technology, sports, celebrity, glitz & glamour. Most importantly I want to see F1 with its shine back.

Totally agree with all you have said, I watched two races now and gosh have they been boring.... fuel management tyre management and iam pretty bored with it having to listen and watch the same thing over and over again.
In all previous years when a new season of F1 started and when u heard the sound of those cars you would get instant goosebumps again, this year nothing happened.
Formula 1 is turning slowly into yet another racing category and it has lost all of its glamour and looks because the cars are ugly too.

dude, they sounded awful in malaysia...with such a wide open area as compared to melbourne, they were dead silent. yeah, i could easily watch it on nbc sports but why suffer through shitty commentary and as you said, commercials none stop?!?! as someone who has a bachelor's degree in the field of sustainability and "green" technology, i think this new fuel efficiency in f1 is fucking stupid. the future isn't conserving on fuel, its getting a completely clean source of energy such as hydrogen power . however, the petrol dollar fucks all that up. i wish f1 would go back to driving fast and pushing it to the limits. on top of cruising around to a lap delta for tire conservation, now we need to worry about not ot going over 100 liters or w/e an hour fuel flow >_>

its gonna be just worse 2015 when they can't make own suspesion parts and engines dropped down from 5 engines to just 4 next season

Old Nurburgring was ALL about endurance/reliability? Monaco - street racing/ Brooklands NASCAR equivalent, ummm German track, old one, for the original silver arrows was another totally different configuration. F1 wasn't about pure speed or racing flat-out at all times just ask John Surtees or Stirling Moss - I have - it was about throttle control (with little brakes and terrible tyres) you were trying stop yourself from going into that tree 1 yard from the circuit. Ground-effect cars and carbon brakes introduced near flat out racing tyre technology had to catch up and did - in a way, THAT is what spoiled F1: Ground effect and carbon brakes. Safety issues led to mad driving as safety was there to prevent an accident !!!!!. These are all difficult to turn back time on, and to answer. I am not advocating any of it - just saying that there is a lot of nostalgia out there which is wrong.

I've followed your stuff for ages BUT - what is 'that where it belongs' aside from your personal opinion - and anyway banked circuits such as Brooklands where raced at F1 type level before even I was born. F1's inception is referred both by yourself and commentators here - If F1 were anything like it's inception we'd have gentlemen drivers/ F2 mixed with F1 in the same race, it'd be in black and white (joke). Things evolve (no, really) and there's bujjer all we can do about it - like it or not - comparisons with the past are irrelevant - whether comparing Fangio to Michael or Vettel or comparing technologies. OK so we're unsure about the new stuff. F1 in James Hunt's time was just as 'contrived' - just as many restrictions, rules, regulations etc., we are far less sensitive to them because we (you, actually) didn't live through them - and they were more innocent times - folks didn't know all the ins-and outs of everything and were taught not to want to know all the ins-and-outs (religion) so they imagined F1 as pure racing this is what was fed down to us, father to son (mother to daughter, sister to... 'Oh don't belabour the point!"). Cocaine ummmm welll James may have .. but mostly cannabis, really

F35FLYER Renault where going to pull out of the sport meaning we would have two engine manufactures for the whole grid instead of the 4 we will have next year.

Lewisisabamf Sorry, misunderstanding, thought you meant from the beginning.
I agree that it needed to change from what it has been the last 5 years, give or take. However, I do not think they needed to change the original idea of the sport from its inception.
