So how are you going to handle the chemicals from the roads and cars leaking on them flowing into that water how are you going to clean it. Are you going to put native mussels and clams and plants in there and land plants?

Its already a quarry. Unlike mining for minerals, rock quarries aren't polluted to hell and back. Its just blowing up rock and hauling it out pretty much. Doesn't leave behind tailings ponds or any other form of polluted slurry.

Fairfax County water authority has arranged to make a Vulcan quarry in Lorton a water reservoir after it finishes being used as a quarry also.
I would think there are pumps running to remove water from the quarry now. Turn off the pumps cost to fill 0
We have a lot of open pit copper mines in Aridzona, that would make great landfills. These giant pits are very useable properties.

A rock quarry , would use only explosives, which would be hauled out with the rock and gravel. There is no many chemical in rock mining.

De-salt the ocean !! If there's been mining there for a long time , what's in that soil that could leach into water if made a quarry ??
