Remember guys, for Thalamus: RTFM! (that's read the...flipping...manual) I've already seen so many posts in groups asking how to do specific things because the game doesn't present you with onscreen instructions. Blaze have put these in the booklet just as you'd have found them in the original games. You get a manual for a reason! As with most C64 games, you will enjoy them a lot more if you familiarise yourself with the actual objectives and controls instead of going in expecting the games to be something else.

I remember Tomb Raider on Sega Saturn. That one was rough, so much so that once I left the mansion I didn't play beyond about 30 minutes into it. As much as I loved my Saturn, this was one of those games that kinda had me wishing at the time that had gotten a PS console instead.
Amazingly was on the Saturn 1st.. I skipped the Saturn after the mess of 32x and Mega cd.

I suppose Tomb Raider still looks best on a classic CRT TV where shimmering is naturally smoothed out. Still, it was popular on PC and I don’t recall there being complaints about the graphics there.

Excited to try Thalamus collection I find these games more appealing to play on my Evercade than some of the 32 bit titles. Off topic Crazyburger but knowing Blazes relationship with retro games (The C64 and the A500) I’m really optimistic given the announcement of the spectrum that I’ll finally get my ZX Specteum cart!! Been asking Pete and Shaun on discord for about two years now!! 😂

I’ve been playing Tomb Raider on EXP last couple of days and it looks fine. Much bigger game than I realised - 6 hours in and I’m still fannying about in Greece. Not great advert for EXP battery life mind you. Obviously don’t need to win a copy so don’t add. Cheers.
Yeah the game was much larger than I remembered as well. Really enjoyed playing it through again. Definitely needed a walk-through to help on occasion. Couldn't remember what to do.. the cistern level especially.

@@CrazyBurger I mail ordered it from an issue of Zapp 64 back in the day! I still have it but it has green stains on it after falling off a canal boat into a lock on a holiday! I was more worried about the shirt than me (something my family used to bring up all the time) - even though the lock was emptying at the time and I was between the wall and a rather large boat!!! The green came from the slime on that wall and would not wash out. I broke a tendon in my finger.

I’d love to win a copy of tomb raider - seems perfect for my exp as like you mention it doesn’t appear to scale well to large screens, I think this will be a common theme with all early 3d games added to evercade.

Gave Tomb Raider a quick look on my 55" 4K tv and if you set it to pixel perfect ratio with subtle scanlines, it looks like it did back in the day. Looks like it did if you had a huge CRT that is and so it's not bad if you haven't come to find CRT to be tough to look at now. Gave Creatures a quick look too, same settings and I like how it looks too. Never played any of these on Thalamus before though since I never had a C64. My first thought about Creatures is how much it is reminding me of playing Wardner which for me is a good thing. I'll probably play mostly on EXP for now, until I figure out what's next regarding VS-R.

Got thalumas collection on Saturday morning. Loving thalumus Collection , I'd forgot how hard as nails creatures 2 was . Very frustrating
Creatures , hawkeye , armalite played loads , the save states help alot

Excellent, yeah those games are tough. Save states make a difference but still can't recall how the heck I completed some of those Creatures torture scenes..

It's very weird, I'd like Blaze to provide some updates. There's definitely something afoot.
@@CrazyBurger having worked for Amazon, the only thing I can think of is EU customs. Items destined for the UK, they will happily be actively targeted, “delayed, held up”. I’d put money on this being the case here, after all why does the EU have access to stock the UK doesn’t?

@@CrazyBurger I remember just after Brexit, stock destined for the UK that passed via any part of the EU was targeted. We would get stock into our facility that could not be sent out because relevant taxes had not been paid to the EU so whilst the stock had landed, it couldn’t be sold. That’s the EU for you, unelected corrupt bureaucrats.

Don't suppose you've heard news on when or if evercade are going to do Linux updaters for the consoles? Got my original evercade & super pocket stuck on release firmware.

Lol, the PS was famous for polygon warping (and folding). It's because the PS doesn't do things like Z-buffering at a hardware level. The shimmer is just the result of super low polygon rendering and the resolution, the only reason you didn't see it in the past is because you likely used the supplied cables and hooked your machine up through composite video so had a very blurred and noisy image on your TV. I used RGB on my consoles except on N64 which only output up to an Svideo standard, even my Super Famicom was modded for RGB back in the day (which ruined a few games like Kirby 3, the resolution was too high so transparency effects failed as without the blurring you could see the pixels and dithering). Sega ran RGB native on Megadrive and beyond, don't know if Master System used the standard because I only had one of those for about a week. I even still have an official Atari Jaguar RGB cable (yes I still own a Jaguar🤣), those things make Gamecube official component cables seem more common than sliced bread by comparison.
BTW Burger, please Don't include me in the draw, much as I would love this cart I already own all three OG versions on PC (and the 360 remake of the first one) and I'd prefer someone that doesn't have access to them now they're delisted to get them.

It's pretty rare, I think Atari only sold about 1/3rd of a million. It's worth owning for Tempest 2000 alone, that game rocks. Especially when you got back from a rave, for some, erm, reason... 😉

I really enjoyed the 90s, I even went clubbing in Glasgow a couple of times. I got dragged to a club which seemed like a "young girls for old men" club called Vickies (Victoria's I think) one time, I was so out of place being, like, male and under 30 and all.

As far as Tomb Raider goes I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. I really want an EXP-R when they release because my EXP died, but I have zero interest in Tomb Raider if it looks as glitchy as that.
With any luck they'll launch a Legacy of Kain EXP-R pack...
It looks exactly like it did on PlayStation. Texture jitter like that is standard on PlayStation.

@@Carlossus666 play the original PlayStation games in HD on a modern monitor. CRTs were hiding a lot of imperfections from us.
@@KeenRetroGames I've been doing just that with my playstation classic, but I've not seen that level of glitchyness in the Tomb Raider games, hence my original comment

@@davidjepson3879 I've heard of folks saying they've ordered from Smyths, Funstock, Game, Amazon and Argos yet had nothing. I've seen some posts and occasional videos of the VSR, so some stock has been sent.. but its not a lot. Must be a delay or hold up somewhere.

No I found it fine.
I wouldn't mind playing Tomb Raider again but PS1 has aged horrifically. The wobbly textures just look awful now.

Boy, those C64 graphics were blocky weren’t they!
On my original hardware it doesn't look as blocky as they do here.
@@KurtPedersen-tg7jchaha it was a joke, re-igniting the playground wars! (C64 is more blocky then the speccy, but the C64 doesn’t have the colour clash that the spectrum had).
