This made me so proud of my heritage, visually stunning, very accurate, and positive information about the women of the islands. You did us Caribbean girls proud, thank you so much for creating this, honestly I wish it was longer I could listen to you talk about beauty for hours!
I’m a little late 😭 but wow this video is so on point where I’m from basically, “if yuh pretty yuh pretty” there is no box to fit in. Never needed skin care because we almost never got acne even with fast food…the quality is just better. Thank you for the video ✨✨
As a West Indian girlie, thank you! I’m really into beauty breakdowns like this but I’ve never seen a video done on us Caribbean girls prior to this one, I love it❤️❤️
Thank you so much for doing your research about my people ( Trinidad and Tobago). Specially about the meaning of “carnival”! The amount of people that give such a negative stereotype of this festival is crazy! It’s our history, it’s how we fought back! We have a rich history that plays a big role in our carnivals! It’s a wonderful experience, words can’t even explain it! You did a great job! THANK YOU 🇹🇹🇹🇹!
Yes carnival is how we fought back but honestly carnival is not what it used to be. It is now more sexual than anything and has strayed away from its original purpose and intent in celebrating emancipation from slavery.
The women of the Caribbean (specifically the west indian and non latin countries) are primarily of African or East Indian descent. Yes there are different races but they have always been in the minority. In terms of religion and ethnicity yes we are diverse. But in terms of race it's mainly Black, East Indian and sometimes Biracial
I just came from St. Thomas and Puerto Rico for vacation and adored the St. John’s carnival! I met so many ppl and was embraced to party because everyone thought I was from there. It was amazing!
This made me realise that the region really doesn't have a hard set on beauty standards ( I mean colorism to an extent but its not as rigid compared to the US) Especially when it comes to bodies everybody gets love (from the slimaz to the fluffy).Truthfully I think its more personality and mind set that makes you pretty. Some of the prettiest girls I have met may not be "phenotypically " beautiful but something about them and their energy made them beautiful. If you think you are pretty and move as such ,others around you will believe it too.
That's my favorite thing about this one in particular. I love that they're not so focused on consumerism, one "kind" of look and other factors that other places put on a high pedestal. You can tell Caribbean people are all about vibes and auras, which I love.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video Z! Especially when you touched on the low adoption of cosmetic enhancements... I always noticed that! Really loved this video. Yes, our beauty is rooted in our sense of self! Knowing our culture really adds to our confidence adn how we show up in the world!
Thank you for this comment, Holly! I’m glad I was able to find this out through research. It’s a really interesting perspective and shines a light on the definition of “natural beauty”

Ahhh yayyyy finally, its so nice seeing how the Caribbean is perceived from an outside lens.
More to come! :)
