A little about me:
Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
He plays and teaches guitar on his UA-cam channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.
I feel like this is something you can’t really explain, but can show and let beginners learn by ear. So, I really appreciate hearing you play the rhythm over and over against muted strings. That’s very helpful. Peace.
Thanks so much for watching!
You are the only guy teaching this stuff like you do. I have been searching for a long time. So glad I found you.
Sean you have made me a half way decent guitar player and I salute you on a daily basis .
Thanks so much for saying so!
fax
it really helps, thanks for the tips
"Unless you're windmilling it..." 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 Great tips, thanks!
I have been watching your videos recently, and they all are easy to follow and really useful for my guitar playing. I really like the way you desmontrate and explain how to strum in this video or how to do solo in some other videos. Thanks you for teaching us some cool stuff😀
Sean your intros are legendary hahaha, I didn’t like them at first , but now i like them
Oh I'll keep em coming!
Playing acoustic, imo depends on how you dynamically strum. It gets you and spectators on the mood. Thanks for the tip, man, this helps a lot!
Happy to help!
Brilliant as always, Sean. I never really thought about tying the acoustic into the drum patterns before but it makes perfect musical sense to do that. I always learn something really useful from you every time!
happy to help!
Hello Daniel, every single video you make is very useful to me, thanks a lot, Thank you...♥️♥️♥️
happy to help!
That's a great breakdown. Thanks man
always happy to help!
This is really interesting! Feel like I’ve made so much progress over the last year and a bit with lockdown and the extra time I’ve had. One thing I really struggle with though is adding dynamics when starting a new song so different parts of the songs differentiate from each other - would be really interesting to see you take a new song you’ve not learnt before in a video and watch how you would play it, verse, chorus, middle 8 and how you build it to keep the listener interested!
It's amazing how much I learned from you over the past six months. When I first started watching, I noticed your subscriber count was around 170k; now it's at 241k. I'm looking forward to buying your jam instructional with Ian with I get some funds. Cheers!
Thanks so much Michael! I'll keep the vids coming!
Learned something new. Thank you!
Happy to help!
This is so helpful and really inspiring. I love the percussive potential of guitar - but don't know to approach it: this helps immensely!
Happy to help out!
I think this one video will improve my playing. In other words I think this video is excellent. THANKS.
Double espresso and a bozi session sounds awesome...thanks again for a cool lesson. Have an amazing day.
Thanks for watching!
What a helpful video
Sean Daniel, the king of palm muting... Great lesson as always 👍🏼🤘🏼
thanks so much!
Love your intros.
Relating strumming to a drum kit is a cool concept.....And the beat goes on!
Thanks for watching!
Wow I’m excited about strumming all of a sudden.
:)
Another break thru goes here, you are un caping the ideology ; how simple is the music to be liked and as it to be taught! Appreciate!
Always happy to help!
Good video, thanks.
Happy to help Jim!
You released this vid on my bday!!!😍
Happy birthday!!!
@@seandaniel23 ayyy... thank you!!!! ❤❤
Thanks
the road to success: going down, but windmilling it, so you are on top again!! :-)
wisdom!
Alot of secrets revealed In one video...right hand muting, left hand release, ect... This could be a four part series on "The Secret of the Sean Daniels Sound" just my opinion buddy!! Great video!
Good strumming lession
This type of strumming reminds me of jack Johnson and I love it.
Sean, quick question, where did the term cowboy chords come from and why do I not want to strum their chords?
Heyyy you're playing a Framus! I don't see enough of those out there. My first guitar was a vintage Framus 50/1 sport that had been my mom's when she was a teenager. Definitely a WAY better beginner guitar than the average person gets. A great little instrument. I kinda wish my parents had been a little more strict about telling me to be careful with it though because the finish is super stratched up and abused because 10 year olds are monsters sometimes. Wish I'd been more careful with it, although it still sounds great. I should really pull it out of storage at my parents house and put some new strings on it!
My personal opinion is that Framus is a very underrated guitar brand.
So cool to learn. Love my Framus.
The heart of rock and roll is the beat, y’all! More drum kits, maybe add some cowbell?
Nice
Thanks!
Cool Surfer 🏄 Dude . “ Come Ah Cow Cow Icky , Come ah Cow Cow Icky I Ay “
;)
I'd love to add windmill to my strumming patterns
Keep the groove
got no choice!
Always wanted to learn this but didn't know how do i improve my strumming.
Happy to help!
You've mentioned windmills, now you're gonna have to make a lessonn about perfect windmilling technique and application of the most essential of all the guitarists tools in his box of tricks!
coming soon!
Thumbs Up :) a big like
Thanks for watching!
Great lesson. I struggle with strumming. Got any tips for strumming on the upstroke? It never feels natural or sounds good and that wrecks my tempo.
I'll have to talk about this soon!
Now I understand your sound . Your a drummer as well.
a little :)
Hey Sean, I've a question on modes, let's say I'm soloing over D Dorian, will it work on a chord progression of(it's parent major scale) C major (C-Em-Am-D-G7)
or D Dorian? If it's work on both then what'll be the deference?
Thanks.
yup. however it might clash over a D major chord (which isn't technically in that key) so does it 'work'? That's kind of up to you, but it should sound ok. generally it'll sound 'best' when there are more Dm chords in the progression because the notes will land on each other more.
@@seandaniel23
Thanks, man that should clarify things.
youtube keeps suggesting me your videos, I keep watching them on the way to work... Which doesnt help me with work, because I always get in the guitar mood 😜
But duh, I need to subscribe, been leeching off these videos for weeks now!
Join the party!
Fun! Although I still just get "Chugga chugga CHUGGA chugga" in my head
-you're welcome
:)
Hey Sean, have you done a lesson on the strumming/playing technique in which only certain notes are played but all strings strummed (i.e., the unnecessary notes are muted). I saw someone playing Zep's Rock & Roll and it looked like he was playing rhythm guitar but the sound was lead guitar. Not sure if there's a name for that technique, or if you've covered it before, or if I'm an idiot... Love your channel all the same...
I don't think I've done one on that, I'll start thinking about it ;)
@@seandaniel23 Thank you! Does my question make sense? I'm not even sure that's really a thing, or has a name. If it's a thing and doesn't have a name, feel free to call it Sean. "I'm going to fingerpick 'Freight Train" and then Sean some 'Little Wing.'"
@@greg7656 I don't think there is a name for what you're talking about, its just a playing style some people have adopted (I think). Paul Gilbert talked about this in a lecture he did somewhere here on youtube, I just don't remember where. Just play it like you described it...
@@JStrange13 Thanks JS., I'm not sure there's a name either. I found a really good example but for the life of me just cant figure out the nuances. I knew if anyone coud, it woud b our man here. Anyway, not sure policy for leaiving links, but here is a great example (starts at 4:12 point).. And Sean, please don't hesitate to delete this comment if you don't like links. ua-cam.com/video/Q4N3hCJ7jZc/v-deo.html&start_radio=1
Does hitting the strings to get a percussive sound, like john mayer, cause damage, especially to the neck?
No, especially if you do it like mayer. It's a light touch
Your neck or the guitar’s...??? 😂
Yeah it definitely shouldn't cause damage. If it is, you're doing it way too hard.
You don’t hear that many good fast and the furious jokes that aren’t about the untimely demise of Paul walker. Nice one
I’ve got another one coming today!
“Unless you’re windmilling it, you have to come back up”. Lol. But seriously, good lesson.
thanks for watching!
....By the 2nd up- stroke, that pick has spun half- way around in my fingers........even ones with a "star" in the middle.....
Maybe try a thinner pick with some grip?
@@seandaniel23.......Apparently at least one guy on tutorial videos has the same problem and he went as far as attaching part of a fingernail file emery board to a partial rubber- coated pick to make darn sure it wasn't going to twist....I may have to do that....It's been a lower priority with me because thumb and finger- picking always seemed adequate....But I'm to the level that I can see RIGHT- HAND technique is where it's at...
Hi Sean, Nice guitar that one. Is it Martin?
Nope
Framus FG-14, love it.
I have to chuckle a bit: you're "few thoughts" are my "cognitive fireworks". Thanks, again!
haha, happy to help!
"unless you're windmilling it" 😅
always a good call
That poor bonsai tree.
It's coming along.
WINDMILLING IT HA HAHAHAHAHAH
Classic move.
'Unless you're windmilling it'
always the exception.
That was funny.

You’re a wild man!!!
