Band-Maid is a Japanese rock band formed in 2013, consisting of singer Saiki Atsumi, guitarist/singer Miku Kobato, lead guitarist Kanami Tōno, bassist Misa, and drummer Akane Hirose. The band combines a rock sound with a maid image modeled on Japanese maid cafés. They are currently signed to Pony Canyon. Their most recent studio recording, the EP Unleash, was released in September 2022.

When the three guitarist gathered around Akane, the drummer, they were making funny faces at her to try and through her offbeat. Never works. Akane just gives them a kissy face and keeps on pounding the drums. The Maids are always doing these silly things so much during their concerts (I've been to two of the live ones). It just proves how much they respect and like (love) each other and how much fun they have while they are playing.
Brother, this was my introduction to the Maids.
This is an example of what Band Maid does best. Metal instrumentation inside of an upbeat chorus-driven song. They absolutely write with the audience in mind, which is why they choose the vocables over English or Japanese words.
It’s something to really look forward to when you see them live. You know you will be called upon to know the chants and the “heys!”
Another one right up the same avenue as this one is “Freedom.” But for me, nothing beats “Moratorium” in a live setting. The breakdown solo alone is worth the price of admission
This is the MV I use to introduce someone to Band Maid.
It just has a little bit of everything that makes this band one of the best on the planet!
Everyone gets to shine!🤘🫶
🤘
BAND-MAID are a whiskey drinking, banana eating small pigeon who moonlights as a barefoot assassin & will look down at your shredded body with an icy stare :)
I love the statement
Absolutely splendid , takes a BAND-MAID fan to truly appreciate what you have written.
My-o-my. That's a some spicy meat-a-balls! 🎀🧆🎀
@@omdtdz Hey thx, made my day that has :)
Crowd participation is ingrained in Japan rock/metal music. It's what makes the shows so much fun.. creating a connection with the band and the crowd. Another thing that is done better in Japan vs the US!
After Kanami finishes her last blazing solo, Saiki sings, "Our pulses race together." Indeed! Band-Maid. Domination. Nuff said! Thx, Jaso!
MISA MISA MISA!!!!! Kanami (Lead Guitarist / Composer) has always stated that she writes songs to be played LIVE
As a general rule with Band-Maid, their lyrics are kind of inscrutable. Miku (red rose - rhythm guitar, second vocal) writes almost all of their lyrics, and they can be kind of poetic, and full of references and allusions. Sometimes they have lyrics that reference little in-jokes that they have with their fans, like there's a line in Shambles that references a random audience interaction they had in New York between songs. To do a proper translation, you'd need a whole slew of footnotes and stuff. I generally recommend that you just ignore them until you're prepared to do a deep dive. Subtitles are always going to fail you. That said, their more recent videos have much better subtitles than older ones like this.
I'm a boomer, passionate about all kinds of music, and also a hobby musician.
In my life I have seen countless concerts, of all the greats from the 70s to today.
And I must say that when in 2019 I saw Band Maid live for the first time I was very impressed, so much so that I chased them for days across half of Europe to see other concerts.
These girls in concert are CRAZY!
I honestly think they are the best rock band in the world today!
greetings and welcome to the world of Band Maid
Band Maid [ Rinne ]
Great reaction. Band Maid reminds me of the best music that I grew up with in the 70s and 80s. Great rock music with catchy hooks. This concert they did a great job of of capturing the crowd participation. They have a lot of participation in their concerts but the official lives don't always capture it.
Play (from this same concert) has phenomenal crowd participation mixed in some heavy instrumentation.
I love this girls nice reaction greeting from germany
Greetings
Band Maid fans better not get upset by people calling it "poppy" as it's one of their big draws. Their ability to write catchy hooks in nearly every song (which is a core element to pop) is one of the reasons they get stuck in our heads when we hear them. Domination Live is a perfect example. So many reactors cannot help but chant "hello" along with them during the video... it's just infectious.
Quick question, I saw you say "wow" at one point during the bass solo and you never commented on exactly what you were saying wow too, but I think it's when she switches between pick playing and slapping in a fraction of a second. It's like that pick vanishes into thin air (it's tucked in her forefinger) and she can pull it back out again just as quickly. It's those little things that constantly impress me.
Her slapping and plucking was great 👍
What are we doing again today, miku?Oh yeah world domination po!
New Cluppo out to today, Po!☮️♥️🕊️

Truth!
Yes, Band Maid purposely writes some songs with crowd participation in mind. If you have not viewed it yet, their recent video of Endless Story from Yokohama Arena, is the prime example. Also, the guitar face off between Kanami and Miku was teacher and student.
Congrats on McCarthy.
Man we scored getting him on the Vikes
DOMINATION live was the 22nd song of their 23 song set and begins with a segue that is the dying away of the last note of the previous song PLAY. At 3:30 - MISA, the bassist, Kanami the lead guitarist and composer, and Miku the rhythm guitarist and founder of the band, are playing Hengao - "strange faces" - with Akane the drummer, which is making funny faces to try and put someone off. Akane, of course, laughs along while not missing a beat. It shows the ladies' confidence in each others' abilities that they can fool around like this while all of them slam out note-perfect Rock at full tilt. At 4:46 - MISA the bassist is holding her plectrum in her curled finger so she can produce it and switch from slapping to picking in half a nanosecond! At 5:35 - Akane the drummer hitting two separate beats on her double kick pedals while simultaneously continuing the song melody on her snare, toms and cymbal. At 6:37 - a brief glimpse of Kanami laying down one sweet rolling chord pattern - pure class. THE best live Rock band on Earth. And beyond.
You will be hard pushed to find a Band Maid song that is not well written and arranged. They are remarkably consistent with quality songs. Personal taste obviously counts but for me, there are only three or four that I don't add to my Band Maid playlists.
This angel is one of the best singers (incredible extremely low vocal, dramatic contralto + polyphonic voice) in the world!
Diana Ankudinova
I was stunned to find that the first performance (Show "You are Super") I heard was when she was 14!!!!
She's now 20 and still developing. She sings in Russian, French, English, German, Spanish and Arabic.
The covers she performed on that show are very popular on UA-cam. Many UA-camrs publish reactions on these performances, which include "Oh,Darling" (❗10 y.o.), "California Dreamin' " , "Sweet Dreams" (all 19 y.o.), "Can't Help Falling In Love", "Crow", "Personal Jesus" (all 18 y.o.), "Wicked Game", "Human" (15 y.o.), "Derniere Danse", "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" (14 y.o.), "Take On Me" (17 y.o.) , film soundtrack to Dune, James Bond, Spirit of Baikal (all 20 y.o) and others.
My favorite part of this is when konami and miku are going at it.Miku actually falls off the riser at the end.And then you see her little pigeon.Head pop-up during the drum cello I love it.That's our wonderful pigeon
I don't think she fell. I thought she was bowing.
When someone is soloing, other members will bow (kneel) if possible.
Konami will bow (kneel) if she is not playing during a Misa solo. You can see it when she walks up to Misa in the Hate? live MV.
In the older Babymetal videos with the eastern Kami band, they will do the same.
It's kinda hard to see since the camera is focused on the one soloing, but there is a shot of all 3 guitarists kneeling while the drummer is soloing.
Definitely a Japanese thing to do!
@jaedo6180 I disagree miku is well know as being clumsy
She fell down more than fell off anything. Like sat down.
@@polskabob359 I disagree. I've never heard anyone describe Miku as clunsy. Japanese people are well known for bowing. And there's evidence to back up my claim.
@jaedo6180 no doubt they bow , that's well known , miku not clumsy, she off a stage
Thanks for the reaction and comments. These ladies are pure joy and energy. My understanding is that they compose many of their songs with crowd participation in mind. As many have already stated, Band-Maid is best experienced live. Looking forward to your next reaction video. Cheers!
Yes they are 🤘
I was lucky enough to see them a few years ago in Dallas. One of the best shows I've ever been to. Been going to metal shows since 1985
Great review! Now,it's time for a drum solo by Akane:

The lyrics may have a "Poppy" feel but the music is far from it.
