I needed this video! It's so relieving to see other people with the exact same problem as me! I've managed to get my physical tbr down to 70 books but declared that I was doing the 'reading to zero challenge' and my book-buying ban lasts until I've read all of them- heartbreaking but entirely necessary.
I love when I see a book haul or someone’s TBR & they don’t know what the book about. It makes me feel like I’m not alone when I buy books when idk what they are about 😂
I’m all for book buying, but girlie have you considered a library? 😂 Honestly you save so much money, you’re able to read the first book in a series for free (which is so nice when you don’t want to spend money on the whole series or you’re afraid you might not jive with it! Saves time and money which is always nice!), you can find a lot more than you think you can (some libraries really pop off and get all the newest stuff!), and you can also read a lot of good classic books! I’m so glad you’re living your book dreams though! It’s my personal dream to be surrounded by 119 books that I really want to read 🤣❤
LOL yeah I have an e card but it’s definitely a goal of mine this year to actually go into the library and rent physical copies more!!! This is why I need a ban bc I love shopping and I love books which = a book buying addiction HAHA it’s bad
I didn’t realize how many I really had until making this video either LOL but it really made me so excited for next year getting to read them and make videos about them I can’t wait!! 🥰🫶🏼
We are the ones who appreciate YOUR time Hal to provide such a great watch for us every time! Tks for being an example that being our authentic selves is the way to go! Congrats on your 10,000k!!!!!!!!! 🤩
The reason the Carissa broadbent books are different is because the duology has been trad published and the novella hasn’t but is soon. Indie published books tend to be larger and much much higher quality in my opinion. I have all of her indie covers vs trad. And for the kingdom of wicked, you’re supposed to read this trilogy first then throne of the fallen is a spin off. Also, check out her stalking Jack the Ripper series, it’s phenomenal!!
Throne of glass is sooo good some people say it’s hard to get into but personally I loved it from the start but as the series goes on it some how got even better!
i LOVE booktube and i js found ur channel the other night and i love it. ive been going down a rabbit hole of watching all ur videos, they’re so cozy and long(which i love) and perfect. im so excited for more videos!!! thank u for all the effort u put in to all of these videos :)
Yay for being a hyper fixation queen too! I’m adding some of the books you have to my TBR! The Chestnut Springs series is one I have to get to this year.
This is the first video i’ve watched by you, and let me say i’ve already subscribed. You seem so nice, like you have such a calming vibe and i can’t wait to watch more by you!
i'm 17 minutes in and you have got to read love and other words its sooo good. also, I just started reading in may and have only read 20 books but five years from now by paige toon is my number 1 absolute favorite book, it had me devastated at the end!
Throne of the fallen is about characters from the kingdom of the wicked series, but you don’t have to read the series to read throne of the fallen. Also with the dance of thieves Duology there are 4 books in the same world (Morrighan and Kiss of deception trilogy). You don‘t need to read them before the duology but they would help on confusion throughout the books! :)
happy new years hal & congrats on 10k! i believe the book Throne of the Fallen is supposed to be read after the Kingdom of the Wicked trilogy by Kerri Maniscalco since the world expands on the world set in the Kingdom of the Wicked series. 💗
Yay! The queen has posted!! You outfit is so pretty! Very random comment, but your intro is so unique ❤😂❤ Happy New Years Eve. I swear, I am your #1 fan!❤
I only found your channel yesterday and I have already watched nearly all of your videos. You are doing a fantastic job! I am so pleased I will be here from the beginning and see your channel grow! Congratulations
I’m so jealous that you’re just starting your sarah j maas journey. I only just finished all her current published books and I already wish I could read them for the first time again! If you didn’t already start throne of glass, I would’ve recommended for you to read all other fantasy books before you start with sarah j maas bc I haven’t been able to read another fantasy book the same after reading her books. Her writing just hits different and not a day goes by that I’m not thinking about her books, characters, and writing.
@now_chemical oof, definitely take it slow if you can, and stay far away from any spoilers. I feel you. Only her writing can keep me immersed to the point that I forget that I'm reading. I'm too attached to her characters now. I miss them every day. 🥲
Omgg this would be SO hard though because everyone is always talking about how good her books are and I also feel like avoiding spoilers gets harder ever day HAHA
I don't know if you know about this website Fantastic Fiction, but I thought I would throw it out there. You can look up an author, book, book series and it will give you the books in order. Not necessarily in "world order" but in order order within the series if that makes sense. I hope this helps. Love this video by the way. My TBR is huge 😂
having a big physical tbr is actually so helpful though because you can pick a book that you are currently in the mood to read at any time! i have 17 books in my physical tbr and most of them are from your videos 😭🫶🏼
I'm so glad I found your channel this year!! You're quickly becoming one of my favs 😊✨💕 I have 65 unread books on my shelf currently 🥴 I think I need to join you on your book-buying ban! I also set a limit of 12 new books this year, and I need to read 12 from my TBR before I buy a new one. Hopefully, I'll stick to it 😅
Throne of the fallen is connected to the kingdom of the wicked trilogy. You'd read the trilogy first and then read throne of the fallen. Also if you want before you read six of crows you could read the shadow and bone trilogy. You don't have to but it makes it easier in terms of world building 😊
hal you are the sweetest! i’m so glad i had found your channel early on - you’ve grown to be one of my favorite booktubers and biggest inspiration! keep doing what you do, your followers love you ❤
Ahhh congrats on 10k! I started reading in October as well! I've only read 4 so far (Dracula, Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (highly suggest this if you haven't already read it- after your buying ban ofc 😉)), and I feel like we're in this together lol. You've got an impressive number of books so far lol. I read on kindle, and I only buy the books when I'm going to read them, then if I love the book, I'll buy the physical.
@@Taylorjadereads Fourth Wing and Addie were my favorites of the four! I loved the Dragons and high stakes of FW! I thought the dragon/war college concept was also really cool. I also liked how smart Violet was! I really liked Addie and it wasn't like anything I've ever read. I preferred the "flashback" chapters to the current time chapters. I also thought the ending was pretty good! I liked Dracula but most of it was really slow (took me the whole month of Oct to get through it). The story was good, but it could've been like ten chapters shorter. IF was a bit disappointing after how amazing FW was, I thought it kind of dropped the ball, but I'm extremely hopeful for the 3rd book! Which were your two favorites and what did you think of them? Also, what's your current read? I'm currently reading Six of Crows and absolutely loving it!
I'm on a soft book buying ban because in the last three months I've bought probably 10 books from Waterstones, whether in store or online, and ordered Riley Sagers back catalogue of books in paperback (which is another 5, but they were second hand), and haven't had the chance to read much of my haul because I borrowed books from the library and accidentally put myself in a reading slump. Which I'm coming out by rereading The Covenant Series by Jennifer L Armentrout; young adult fantasy is a bit different from psychological thrillers. 😅
Omg I love the idea of a soft book buying ban!! Idk if I could do it bc I feel like I just wouldn’t take it seriously and I’d just shop anyway LOL I have no self control 🤦🏽♀️
The Chestnut Springs series changed the way I look at life. It made me appreciate everything more. Hope each book lives up to your hype 😍 Happy 2024 & congrats on 10K subs, well deserved! 💖 As one of your subscribers, I'm gonna ask you this super interesting question, so good luck! Would you rather be able to read only hockey romance for the rest of your life or read only friends to lovers for the rest of your life?
Omggg that is SUCH a good question!! I think I would rather read hockey romance for the rest of my life because I haven’t read a friends to lovers yet that I have LOVED as much as the hockey romances I have read!!! (Seriously this was such a good question thank you!?)
The Serpent and the Wings of Night was one of my favorite reads from 2023, I recommend you read the novella in.between the duology. The editions you have may be different (there was an indie/self published version and then the editiorial version), it happened to a lot of people with Serpent and the 2nd book, The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King
Hi! I have just come across your channel, and I am in love. I love your vibe, and you seem like such a sweet person! I hope your 2024 is full of joy and love, and I can't wait to watch your channel grow!
Been here since the beginning and it’s amazing to see your growth! I need to take your advice and go on a book buying ban as well, but I highly doubt I’d be able to stick to it. I always say that there are much worse ways I could be spending my money 😂😂 I read 14 books in 2023, aiming for 35 in 2024! Looking forward to your future videos, keep up the good work-100K subscribers before the end of 2024, I’m calling it.
OMG I love your optimism let’s put it in the universe!!! Also I am so nervous I won’t be able to last in my book buying ban either!!! We will see hahaha 🥰🫶🏼
Congratulations love!!!!! I’m so happy I have been here since you started your book content!!! Can’t wait for the future!! Congrats!! You deserve all the love!! 💕
I just found your channel and love your vibe. I also have anxiety and depression so it was refreshing hearing your share that about yourself. Some of the books I loved off your tbr are Love and Other Words, Happy Place, Beach Read, Punk 57, Magnolia Parks, Secretly and Unfortunately Yours, and all the Sarah J Maas. Throne of Glass is my favorite of her series. Thats so cute that you and your bestie have a shared library! Subscribed 🥰 ps - good luck on your ban! I’m also on a bit of a ban, or rather an low buy year because my tbr is out of control, too lol
When you are finally off your book buying ban (and if you want to explore contemporary fiction), I highly recommend The Guncle by Steven Rowley and A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. And if you love Greek Mythology, A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes and Circe by Madeline Miller are some of my favorite books of all time.
the dance of theives duology has a trilogy before it lol, i found that out after buying the two to of them too. BUT the trilogy is super good ive read all but the last one. Its called The Remant Chronicles!
I kinda started abandoning my physical tbr at the end of last year and mainly read eBooks for the last couple of months so I wanna do a read 2 buy 1 system for the next couple of months which to me is more sustainable than just stopping to buy books The goal is go get the tbr close-ish to 10 books (it's currently 23) Good luck on your book buying ban and here is to more conscious book buying for the both of us this year!!
The reason why Six Scorched Roses is taller than The Serpent and the Wings of night is because the series is originally self published but recently got picked up by a publisher. So far only the first book has been released in trad pub (the first book). Book 2 comes out in June, I think, and IDK about the novella. Hope that helps.
You dont necessarily have to read the kingdom of the wicked series before throne of the fallen, but i HIGHLY recommend, because the main character has his first appearance there and its even more fun to read his own story after kingdom of the wicked💝
congrats on 10k girl! you channel came on my feed and im obsessed already. i feel you on being more consistent with youtube. hope you keep up the content ❤️
I love that you are a new reader also cuz like I love the big booktube girlis but they have already read the most hyped up books so I love love love that I get to read them with you PS. You have to read the things I wanted to say it was great I loved the character development of the MMC PPS. Also the seven year slip was like adorable and the way Ashly Poston talks about gref is heartbreaking and eye opening
Yay another great video coming this way.......I need a book buying ban because I buy books every time I see a video of yours and a few others or I go to the stores.....I need help lol...but you truly are my UA-cam book bestie and just an overall best friend...I truly love seeing your content and your family truly grateful for you
Omg you are so sweet 🥹🫶🏼 I’m so glad you’ve found good book recs from me!! But sometimes it can be so hard not to over buy LOL you could try doing a ban with me!! Even if it’s not as long (: I am truly grateful for you too 🥹🩷
If I’m not mistaken the orders are (but don’t have too) Shadow n bones series before six of crows The folk of air series before stolen air Remnant chronicles series before dance of thieves Kingdom of wicked series before throne of fallen
I'm currently reading a historical fiction trilogy (40% through book 2 rn) if you want book recs, its a really good one. The Unmasked Trilogy by McKenna Rowell if you wanna know Also my favorite indie book trilogy is the Mageye trilogy by Paris Kaufman (she has some exciting plans for the series in 2024 as well :D) My goals for this year for reading is 1. to read at least 50 books 2. read my whole shelf (with like harry potter, percy jackson, narnia, series of unfortunate events, etc) and read the top two shelves of my big bookshelf, then at least half of my historical fiction/non-fiction shelf :) And to read my collector versions of the four folklore/fairytales I have :D
Thank you for the book recs!!! Also how fun we have the same reading goal this year!!! 🩷 I think you have really good goals for this year and I hope you have an amazing year of reading 🩷💕
I relate so much to the insane amount of tbr physical books, i think i have around 80? but i was in such a burnout from reading due to school stress that i have made practically no progress but i got a kindle just before new years and read 5 books since new year (3 on kindle 2 off kindle) and i just find ir so crazy that the kindle could talk me out of this slump
I believe you read the kingdom of the feared series before throne of the fallen. Also I never leave book sets in their case. I would display dark Romeo with the the sprayed pages out bc they are adorable. Love your videos!!
Our logic on buying books is literally the same 😂 it is so addicting. My physical TBR is 200+ books. I literally need an intervention and someone needs to take all of my credit cards. Love your videos 🫶🏼
@@HalJones ugh it’s so good but I hated bj for a bit of the book then loved him and hated him again😂 I didn’t get irritated at the 90ish% but it is still 5 stars🥰
hey!! i would recommend keeping the b&n exclusive version of a curse for true love because it has bonus content, it being an extended epilogue/ending! stephanie garber created 3 bonus epilogues which are found in the b&n exclusive edition, owl crate edition, and litjoy edition of a curse for true love. OH! and hooked is just a regular dark romance. although it does include characters based on peter pan, there isn’t any fantasy or aspect of fantasy in the book at all. IM SO EXCITED FOR YOUUU ❤❤🫶
Thank you I had no idea!! lol ALSO I didn’t realize hooked was even a dark Romance so thank you for this so I don’t go in with the wrong expectations!! Haha
From Blood and Ash is the first book in that series. I love that series so much! On good reads there is a prequel spinoff but I read from blood and ash series first and it was fine.
I just finished The Only One Left! Couldnt put it down. I liked The House Across the Lake for the first half or two-thirds, but there was a twist where they lost me haha.
I've recently noticed that a lot of series novellas or prequels etc. are considerably taller than the rest of the series, I don't have an explanation but it does seem to be common and I don't understand it either
Your so pretty!! I love your videos I’ve been watching them on my tv and I’ve finally subscribed on my phone! I love reading also and I’m going to start making some videos in a couple of years💗I know that’s all a bit random but I just thought I’d share keep up the awesome videos x
If you want to read Dance of thieves, read the Remnant chronicles before that, it is happening before Dance of thieves. And From blood and ash is the first book in a series.
This was an amazing video!! If you haven’t read it already, I highly recommend The Cruel Prince trilogy. I just finished the second one today and starting the third one and it’s probably my favorite book! It’s a fantasy novel with sub plot romance (that enhances throughout the books)
buying whole series’s without having read the first books is so brave lol but i hope you enjoy !!
LOL I know… fingers crossed 😭😂🫶🏼
Dance of Thieves and Vow of Thieves is my favorite duology of all time! They had pulled me out of a reading slump I was in💜

yesss i'm definitely super excited for this one!!!
Congratulations love!!!!! I’m so happy I have been here since you started your book content!!! Can’t wait for the future!! Congrats!! You deserve all the love!! 💕
Ahhh thank you sm!! I love hearing that you’ve been here from the beginning it means so much that you stayed 🥹🫶🏼
Subscribed 🥰
ps - good luck on your ban! I’m also on a bit of a ban, or rather an low buy year because my tbr is out of control, too lol
Omggg I’m so happy to have you hear 🥹🫶🏼 I love hearing that you have loved some of the books I’m gonna be reading this year it makes me so excited!! 🩷
so happy to finally be early to one of your videos! ive been looking for a good tbr video for new years and this hits the spot
Yayayayayayyy 🥳🩷✨
You have loads of really great thrillers on your tbr. The silent patient and rock paper scissors are both amazing
Yess those are two I am super excited for!!!
"I don't really know what's going on, I'm just here to have a good time" 💀😭 yes girl me too oh my gosh
37:30
LMAO 😭😂😂
When you are finally off your book buying ban (and if you want to explore contemporary fiction), I highly recommend The Guncle by Steven Rowley and A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. And if you love Greek Mythology, A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes and Circe by Madeline Miller are some of my favorite books of all time.
the dance of theives duology has a trilogy before it lol, i found that out after buying the two to of them too. BUT the trilogy is super good ive read all but the last one. Its called The Remant Chronicles!
WHAT?! Lol I had no idea!!! Thank you sm! lol just more books to add to my list 😂
haha anytime😆@@HalJones
Would love to see you organise your shelves 😍❤📚
This is going to be my next upload 🙊🫶🏼
I kinda started abandoning my physical tbr at the end of last year and mainly read eBooks for the last couple of months so I wanna do a read 2 buy 1 system for the next couple of months which to me is more sustainable than just stopping to buy books
The goal is go get the tbr close-ish to 10 books (it's currently 23)
Good luck on your book buying ban and here is to more conscious book buying for the both of us this year!!
That’s a good idea!! I think if the ban doesn’t work for me I will try something similar next!! 🖤
Ohhh omg okay yes that actually makes sense now I feel so drama LOL
Still blooming annoying 😂
You dont necessarily have to read the kingdom of the wicked series before throne of the fallen, but i HIGHLY recommend, because the main character has his first appearance there and its even more fun to read his own story after kingdom of the wicked💝
the seven year slip actually made me bawl, one of my favs!
Omgg I’m see excited!!!!
I’ve been obsessed with your videos since they came out! #1 FANNN
AHHHH ILY 🥹🩷🫶🏼
i want to start reading more this year and you are my motivation since we are both just starting!

I love that you are a new reader also cuz like I love the big booktube girlis but they have already read the most hyped up books so I love love love that I get to read them with you
PS. You have to read the things I wanted to say it was great I loved the character development of the MMC
PPS. Also the seven year slip was like adorable and the way Ashly Poston talks about gref is heartbreaking and eye opening
Okay hearing there is food character development makes me more excited for the things I wanted to say!!!
Even if it’s not as long (: I am truly grateful for you too 🥹🩷
@@HalJones some of those books on your tbr you are gonna love i I know I did
@@HalJones and yes to doing a ban with you...and sorry if i comment alot my comments aren't showing up so I rewrite it then they show up lol
Well done on 10k! I love all your videos there all so interesting. You are my favourite booktuber! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!! 😭🩷💕✨🤍
Congrats on 10k babes! We love you so much and you deserve all the hype!!!
Thank you sm!! 😭🫶🏼🥰🩷
If I’m not mistaken the orders are (but don’t have too)
Shadow n bones series before six of crows
The folk of air series before stolen air
Remnant chronicles series before dance of thieves
Kingdom of wicked series before throne of fallen
Thank you so much!!! 💕
About my dark romeo you can just put the book in the box flioped so the spiti is showing and it's also in the box
Ohh that’s a good point! I hadn’t thought about doing it that way! (:
Okay but you look so cozy, surrounded by your books 🥹
Yesss it’s honestly so fun to be surrounded lol
The Perfect Marriage was a book I could not put down. As a criminal justice major I loved the plot and plot twist. Very excited for you to read it!!
I loveeee all things criminal justice so Ik very excited for it!!
You should try reading in a Snuggie . It is so cozy. It a big big sweater
YES I have actually been looking at these online recently LOL I’ll take this as my sign
I’ve been subscribed since your first video and so happy to see your growth! I love that you have so many books already 😂📚💜
Awww omg I love that!! Thank you for supporting my unhinged book buying HAHA 🫶🏼
I'm currently reading a historical fiction trilogy (40% through book 2 rn) if you want book recs, its a really good one. The Unmasked Trilogy by McKenna Rowell if you wanna know
Also my favorite indie book trilogy is the Mageye trilogy by Paris Kaufman (she has some exciting plans for the series in 2024 as well :D)
My goals for this year for reading is 1. to read at least 50 books 2. read my whole shelf (with like harry potter, percy jackson, narnia, series of unfortunate events, etc) and read the top two shelves of my big bookshelf, then at least half of my historical fiction/non-fiction shelf :)
And to read my collector versions of the four folklore/fairytales I have :D
Thank you for the book recs!!! Also how fun we have the same reading goal this year!!! 🩷 I think you have really good goals for this year and I hope you have an amazing year of reading 🩷💕
I would love to see a full magnolia parks series reading vlog!! im so jealous of how many books u have 🤣
Ouu this is a good idea!!! 🫶🏼
No i definitely feel like it’s much harder to have reading as a hobby while still in school so don’t be too hard on yourself!!! 🫶🏼
Yessss!! So excited!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻
Ahhhh me too!!! 🥳🫶🏼
The Boys of Tommen Series is literally my favorite ❤ hopefully you’ll love the books as much as I do.
I honestly really hope I like them!!!
I believe you read the kingdom of the feared series before throne of the fallen. Also I never leave book sets in their case. I would display dark Romeo with the the sprayed pages out bc they are adorable. Love your videos!!
Thank you so much!!! This makes me feel so much better LOL
your vibe is amazing looking forward to more videos from you in 2024!
Omg thank you I can’t wait either 🥹🫶🏼✨
Girl! You got some good ones to read till the end of your ban!
Yess!!! Like I don’t even feel worried about running out of options at all lol
Our logic on buying books is literally the same 😂 it is so addicting. My physical TBR is 200+ books. I literally need an intervention and someone needs to take all of my credit cards. Love your videos 🫶🏼
Read the kingdom of the wicked series before throne of the fallen.
No genuinely same LOL but it feels so nice to know we’re not alone in our logic hahahaa 🩷
Heartless is my fav so far from the first 3 books of the chestnut springs series
Ouu really?! Im so excited to see which ones end up being my fav!! 🫶🏼
Magnolia parks I just read the first book and it was amazing!! I’m eating up the whole series onto the second one straight away!! 🫶🏻
Omggg yeah the audio book had me hooked right away I can’t wait to finish it!!!
Haha
YESSSSS im using this to build my Goodreads TBR!!!!!!
Heehehehebehe ILY
From Blood and Ash is the first book in that series. I love that series so much! On good reads there is a prequel spinoff but I read from blood and ash series first and it was fine.
Ohhh okay thank you!! 🥰🤍
@@HalJones you're welcome
I just finished The Only One Left! Couldnt put it down. I liked The House Across the Lake for the first half or two-thirds, but there was a twist where they lost me haha.
I seriously only hear good things about the only one left i can’t wait!!!
@@HalJones if you like it, I also recommend No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall! 🩵
the way this just felt like looking at my own physical TBR haha
Omg I love that haha 🥰🫶🏼
I actually read Haunting Adeline the other night, in practically one sitting. It does not feel like it’s 500+ pages!
Omg really?! I just read the tw the other night and now I feel super intimidated by it lmao not at all what I expected
I've recently noticed that a lot of series novellas or prequels etc. are considerably taller than the rest of the series, I don't have an explanation but it does seem to be common and I don't understand it either
Haunting Adaline is.... a trip to say the least. It will mess you up if you are not ready for it! be in a good headspace before you read it.
LOL yeah maybe one day!!
love your vids so much!! omg 119 books!! when??
LOL that’s what I’m saying.. how did we get here 😂😭
Your so pretty!! I love your videos I’ve been watching them on my tv and I’ve finally subscribed on my phone! I love reading also and I’m going to start making some videos in a couple of years💗I know that’s all a bit random but I just thought I’d share keep up the awesome videos x
Omgg I love that!!! Thank you 🥹🫶🏼 and how exciting!!! 🩷💕
A new reader?! That's great!! I love to read!!
🩷💕🫶🏼🥰
If you want to read Dance of thieves, read the Remnant chronicles before that, it is happening before Dance of thieves.
And From blood and ash is the first book in a series.
Omg really?! I had no idea!! Thank you 🩷
for throne of the fallen you are supposed to read the kingdom of the wicked trilogy first for it to make more sense!!
Thank you!!! 🩷💕
Happy new years !!✨️🍾
Happy new years!! 🥳🎉🩷
Ali Hazelwood’s MOST popular book / my favourite book of hers is The Love Hypothesis !! Love on the Brain can’t even compete to that in my opinion
This was an amazing video!! If you haven’t read it already, I highly recommend The Cruel Prince trilogy. I just finished the second one today and starting the third one and it’s probably my favorite book! It’s a fantasy novel with sub plot romance (that enhances throughout the books)
Thank you!!! 🥰🫶🏼✨
