I've been getting a little bit back into hardware beats today and decided that I'd try and put together a DAWLESS soul beat with the SP404-MK2. This is a full workflow walkthrough and not much changes from beat to beat for me. I hope you find this one fun to watch and useful too!
#dawless #sp404mk2 #hiphop
Id love to see another part to this. It wasnt too fast paced or complicated but really seemed like a realistic use case walk-through for those of us that get overwhelmed sometimes by every little thing the SP can do. Great stuff!
Glad to hear that. I've been trying to make sure things aren't too speedy as I can talk quite fast sometimes haha
Thanks for making a full walkthrough, really instructive, would really love to see more of these in the future!
I'm thinking of doing a beat making video every Tuesday now
Great vid man. As always. Love to see a vid about your approach to variations. Thanks again
🙏🙌
Im learning a lot. Appreciate these step by steps.
Glad to hear that. I'll be doing more like this soon 🙌
Great stuff, as always. 👍🏽
Every one of us can create a loop. Saving variations for another video is crazy.
P.s. i love you and even as a seasoned sp user, i learned things so no shade but this is "building a loop from scratch", the Sauce is in how to convert that to a beat and I'd love to see your insight
Defo better than a soulless Daw beat
2:37 yo my man felt the soul right there! that made my day man good stuff
🙌🙌🙌
Incredible video, loved watching the whole process keep it up bro 🔥
Much appreciated man! Thanks for watching 🙌
Really happy to see you keep on jamming out on the 404. I got one because of these videos and it’s always great to see techniques shared. Would love to see more stuff with that Roland chord machine as well
Will definitely pull that out again soon yeah!
Great video! I don't chop vocals really so it was great to see you go through the process 😊
It doesn’t always work out but always fun to try 🙌
love the soul samples 🔥🔥🔥
Yeah man been all over them this week!
Brilliant. Would be great to see a part two where you might introduce some variation or breakdowns in a few other patterns. Great work! Thanks!😃
I’ll definitely add it to the list or do the same theme with a different beat. Thanks for tuning in 🙏
Thanks man great video came out nice
Nice one bro, thanks for dropping in! 🔥
I just wanted to shout you out man ! You are doing your thing with these videos and tutorials. Also , your drum kits on your site are dope. I am about to cop some of them for real !
Thanks a lot man! Appreciate your support too. I hope you enjoy the packs 🔥
@@spvidz I just copped your entire lo-fi bundle and the Hip Hop Drums vol 1 !! They sound really good ! Keep doing your thing. I like supporting the smaller business sellers and help out.
Yo man. Really appreciate the support. Goes a long way for a small independent seller like me 🙌🙏🔥
That sample is so dope man! 🔥🔥🔥 btw nice singing :D
😆 will have to include more in the future
@@spvidz really caught me off-guard, loved it!
😅👍
He used auto tune! 😂
Lol I need it 😆
Great stuff!
🙌🙌🙌
Nice vid! Would definitely like to see a follow up video on variations as you said at the end of the video.
Thanks for making it that far. Will do a follow up definitely 👍
Great tutorial mate!
🙏🙌
Your fingerdrumming skills are awesome
Thanks bro! 👊
Love your tutorials brotha I was waiting on my Sp for six months watching your videos and I was able to hit the ground running…just gotta get ideas bounce out now to put em
Out
🙌🙌🙌
Great beat man
Thanks bro 🙏
Hell yeah
Bros got a voice! 👊
lol, I try 😂
hey i just wanna say thanks on you making these vids for us to learn from if it wasnt for you we or i wouldnt be able to use my sp as well as i do today
So glad to help you bro! 🙏
Thanks for the vídeo, you’ve got a nice and clear way of explaining things
At one point you said the sample/pattern still sounded kind of choppy and there are ways to fix it. I’m struggling with this, can you tell me how you do that?
It will usually sound ok once its quantised in the pattern mode. If its still choppy adjust the speed/pitch to make them slightly slower and fill the gaps. You could also adjust the bpm of the pattern.
That’s sick my guy! I would love to see how you break down the variations and bring them all back together to tie them in a pattern. If you already have a vid pls point me to the right direction. 👊🏽
Yo my latest 2 videos talk a lot more about chopping man! Check those out I’m sure they will be useful 👍
I didn’t know you could pitch the sample without changing the tempo on the SP.
Thanks for sharing!
👍
Great video. Would love to see you make something similar from scratch on the KO II (for a newbie like me).
I don't have a KO-II unfortunately
I don't have this device but after watching some of your videos I'd like to get the SP404.
Its a great machine!
Sounds great! What's the sample?
Man I gotta sample your vocals now 😂🔥
😂😂😂
Tough to find knobs for the mk2 , I checked your shop , but I couldn’t find any , the screen graphics are clutch , any chance you can obtain any knobs for these ? I find other knobs but I don’t think they are compatible . Rookie here by the way . I’m seeking a red yellow and green knob .
I'd recommend DJ Tech Tools Fatty knobs. They come in all sorts of colours
@@spvidz thanks for response I’ll do a google search for em . You helped narrow it down . 🤴
any driver available for windows yet? can not use my pro tools with MK 2....not recognied.
Not sure sorry bro. I only use mac and it was plug 'n' play
One thing that I love to do is 32 chops instead of 16. That way it will stay in sync if you change the tempo and it'll still sound cool.
Nice 🔥
404mk2 can do 32 chops?
Yes that's it. Divide a two bar loop into two one bar loops, and then divide those into 16. The first row
Sorry, hit post before I was done. First row will be kicks, third row snares. And the second and fourth will be uphats.
The 'feel'/groove/swing of a sample typically depends on the 2nd,4th, 6th etc 16ths being played early or late. If you chop on 16ths you'll lose that.
So to make your drums sound louder you just lowered the sample volume?
pretty much yes. It depends what head room you have. I didn't have any headroom left to make my drums louder so I had to lower the samples instead. If you have the headroom on your drums you can just turn up the volume on those instead
@@spvidz but the drums have the same volume? you sacrifice volume on the sample and I think they're other ways to give those drums a boost... have you tried stacking drums? like 2 kicks or 2 snares? I just feel like you're hiding parts of the music to point out the drums. I've been thinking on getting a 404 and been watching your vids. Respect man!
Nice job man! I hear snare panned to the right and thats weird to my ears. Keep up what you are doing!
I heard that too while editing. Hopefully its an easy fix. I think I might not have panned all the way to 'mono r' when I wanted to make the sample mono
As a beatmaker and producer, don't you run into copyright infringement on sampling someone elses music? I want to release my music, so I will have to stay away from sampling other people's music. It's fine if you are just DJing a local show, but if you want to make your own music and put it on Spotify, that's a real issue.
May be I missed it but why do copy your patterns after recording a pattern?
To make variations which are similar. It saves having to rebuild the whole pattern again from scratch 👍
So you can play some copyrighted material but just not too long a sample? 🤔 how does it work, what’s the cut-off point? 😅
Pretty much yeah. If you play too much of a sample the algorithm will pick it up
I misread the title as :SOULLESS DAW BEAT
It was not soulless, or made in a daw which was a pleasant surprise
lol, glad it didn't come across as soulless, appreciate it 🙌
I sampled you singing lol
🤣👍
i think i know what you mean
Excellent 😁
is it just me or sample sounds very bad quality.. almost un usable for real kind of peace of music... tunning is too obvious imo doesnt sound good
