The same exact problem happened with me. Except I tried everything and the tray and float switch were bone dry and perfectly fine. What had happened was that the controller board had somehow burned out the plug to my drain motor which caused it to drain incessantly and gave me the waterproof error. I spliced and replaced the plug and same thing. The board immediately went to work burning that plug again. Miele freaking wanted $800 for a new board and $200 for the harness and $200 for labor.
Don’t buy a Miele. They charge +70% and claim it lasts twice as long. Complete nonsense. Miele blamed me for misuse. How on earth do I burn out a controller board???
I tossed it and bought an LG.

8:02 Scott, do you have a video for if the valve is leaking? Followed all your steps and got my dishwasher working but then the bottom fills with water again and the pump keeps trying to run. I’m going to assume it’s the valve you mention at 8 minutes.

Thank you very much. Had a repair company come out for my Miele Dishwasher and the repair quote with replacing parts was $375 for the F70 Code. I watched your video and it was a simple piece of broken glass that was clogging the ball bearing. I cleared the blockage and the machine has been running perfect since. Thank you.

Mine is the other way around. Program is run as it should. Water is pumped out properly, but after 4-5 days water seeping back again into the diahwasher. I’ve replaced the non return valve (15 years old), but the problem still exists. Should I also replace the square part as well (sump?)?

I'll always kill myself to try to fix things, just because I have a knack for it and also because I have to keep up the (not very true...) impression that my family have of me that"...he's an all-round clever dick at fixing things".
So, I opened my Miele G5220sci, exposed the impeller, examined the non-return valve and found the metal valve-ball was held open by some little plastic bit of junk. Put all that back together, exposed the driptray and saw that the polystyrene float was sitting on a puddle and had tripped the microswitch. I soaked off all the water and then ran a couple of cycles and - bingo! problem solved. Many thanks, Gilbert

Hi Scott the fixit guy. I have done three of the possible fixes I learned from you watching your videos but the Intake/Drain blinking light keeps coming back on. I replaced the water inlet valve per your instructions and checked the one way valve in the sump for debris. I also checked the drain line to make sure it is above the disposal connection. Ours is a Miele 2003 G 892-SC Touchtronic. Maybe it's just time for a new machine? I have not taken the machine out from under the counter, turned it on its side and removed the circulation pump.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Worked for my Miele. We had a slow draining kitchen sink which backed up. When running the garbage disposal water began to back up into the dishwasher. Cleared the drain but now dishwasher is not working. But after watching your video, it was water in the bottom tray that was the problem. Soaked it up with a sponge as you recommended and now it's working fine. Thank you!

This was the bomb, fixed mine in 30 minutes. It was the drain pan. I had turned off the water to my home, when turned it back on, drain stayed on. Water was in that lower pan.
I did 2 things different than this fellow. I used a micro fiber towel, not a sponge… I was able to stuff it way under in that area. Also I removed to cosmetic front door panel, made everything else easy peasy.

Water got there through one of the tubes draining the door seal and that's where the leak was. I have cleaned the door seal properly and all is working perfect now. Big thank you for a great money saving video. Best Regards. Luke.

Do you have a video for a Miele Diamante dishwasher that won't turn off, buttons unresponsive and started on its own with no one near it to push any buttons by accident. Tried to plug and unplug, but it just picks up where it left off, door open or closed When I open, a little "fountain" is percolating in the location of where the pump would be.

We had a more recent Miele G6365 that starting pumping without any controls being pushed. There was little water in the sump. The pullout filter was not clean, but it was also not needing cleaning, in my opinion. The display mentioned "water proof." After seeing this video, I found a grape stem fragment in that ball valve that prevented the ball from seating on the rubber base. Case solved!!! (The manual just said to contact Miele for this error). I was glad to fix this the night before Thanksgiving. You saved me a service call. Your videos are great.

A huge thank you for this! (I'll be sending a donation.) I was able to disassemble, clean and solve several of these problems before my partner got home to move the machine so we could unplug it to drain the pan. (I'm 63, not much strength or flexibility anymore). We'll be relocting the electrical outlet. Our problem came after a major sink clog that backed up into the dishwasher when we plunged it (lesson learned). And yes! we didn't have the right config for the disposal hose. I fixed it with a brace to the wall. Interestingly, the One Way Drain Valve had a pressure crack in the top of it, exactly where the clip holds it in place. Small, but enough to cause a geyser-like leak. We'll remedy it with some glue while we wait for the new part to arrive. We have a 21ish year old Platinum G SUA 892. Up til now our only real problem has been the deteriorating racks, which I'm about to replace now that I feel confident this machine will keep working, and/or we can fix what ails it. Thank you again!

Need to see why water filled up on bottom of dish wadsher/tray and fix other way rust will ruin dishwasher and will end up doing this sponge routine again and again. Good video thanks for that.

      Hi Remi,
I would suspect you have a fill valve that is not closing all the way and letting water leak in.
It could also be water flowing back from a clog sink through the drain pipe back into the dishwasher.

In the spirit of being thorough I found the problem to be with the screw that secures the top frame of the dishwasher to the cabinets. It came loose and backed-out enough so the head was preventing the dishwasher door from completely closing to create a good seal. A small amount of water was leaking down the seam onto the floor and into the lower section behind the kickplate which was causing the float to continually run the drain cycle. Thanks again for your videos!

Thanks for showing how to take that sump out. I read my Miele instruction manual but it wouldn't budge. I was worried about using any force but all it needed was a screwdriver to give it a little push.

And Scotthefixitguy comes yet again to the rescue. Our G 841 SC Plus had a small piece of the edge of a milk glass plate that OCCASIONALLY made the impeller stuck, triggering the intake/drain light. The motor hummed, and only after spinning the impeller in both directions was I able to isolate when it actually stuck again. That's when I saw the glass chip and removed it. How it got past the other screens, I don't know as they contained other broken glass and assorted other trash. Perhaps it slipped in as I removed the sump screen previously and it somehow teetered in that way. Bottom line - it now works flawlessly. Watching the above video, I was able to figure out how to remove it. In a previous Scottthefixitguy video, I was able to modify a cheap metal fork to unfreeze a circulation pump impeller. Thanks yet again, Scott!

Once any wash cycle is chosen (on my Miele Incognito), and door closed, drain starts and does not stop. The metal ball in the check valve is clear and no water in the pan. Pulled dishwasher out to try to see if there's a stuck float but can't find it.

I just fixed one yesterday .
I pulled it out and removed the bottom plate and removed the styrofoam float from inside its plastic case and found the microswitch stuck. I flipped the float upside down and put it back together . That fixed it.

Scott, This is what happened to mine and your post was the answer! I ran it with dishwashing soap because we ran out of dishwasher pods and it bubbled like crazy and even overflowed the drip pan onto the floor. I removed the kick plate to access the pan, but my Fridigaire Gallery (FGID 2472QF) wasn't as easy as yours was and I had to pull it out a bit and sneak my hand in at the corners. By letting the sponge soak up water multiple times, I removed a small mixing bowl full and the styrofoam float switch disengaged, letting it run again. BTW, before this, the way to reset the (unresponsive ) machine is to press the heat and power buttons at the same time for 10 sec. or so. Unfortunately, the water level was too high to let that work. Now if only I could fix our dead Saab!

Scottthefixitguy strikes again! With his help, I've fixed so many appliances - including taking SEEMINGLY complex internal components apart - that I've even fixed my friends' appliances. This morning my 16 year old Miele dishwasher stopped draining. After watching a few of Scott's related videos, I discovered the problem was an easy fix - the one-way sump valve (the one with the ball bearing) was clogged with food and limescale. The whole operation took 5 minutes - beginning to end. Getting a Miele approved (hopefully, COVID vaccinated) repair person over would have cost a minimum of $200. So, everyone, check @scottthefixitguy's videos first, then try fixing it yourself. You'll be pleasantly surprised about what YOU CAN DO YOURSELF.

      Nice job Sean,
The flooding may be occurring due to the drain hose being connected directly to the garbage disposer and when the sink fills up with water, that water flows backward and floods the lower tray of the dishwasher.

A clear and concise explanation of a troublesome problem, return of water from sink waste trouble me for months, then woke up this morning to dishwasher going into auto pilot with the scavenging pump flat out all night. Having spent my entire career on four stroke and two stroke engines, I felt an engineer may be needed. Then goggled the condition and came upon you video, can't thank you enough for a detailed and concise explanation, covering not just the repair but prevention measures thrown in too.

    Hi Scott.
I had already cleaned the filter and non-return ball valve. So I pulled the unit out and took off the side panels. The lower tray was wet so I booked a service call.
After watching this video and helping me identify the lower tray float, I sucked 600ml of water out with a large syringe and the unit is working again. I could not see any leaks so I am not sure how the water got into the lower tray. I am going to try and dry the lower tray entirely so then I can see where drips are coming from.
OK... there is a small plastic pipe at the bottom, front, right and it was dribbling continuously during one part of the washing cycle.
To close the loop. The pipe in question captures leakage from the door seal. I cleaned all the seals around the door and now there is no leak, no overflow sensor being triggered and the drain pump stops as expected.
The dishwasher has been re-assembled and moved back under the benchtop. I will be cancelling the service call now.
    Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to make this video, very helpful!
Our 14 y.o. Miele G2120C kept draining with just power on. Looked at the schematics and it was clear that the overflow sensor got activated, forcing the drain pump to run. However, could never guess that the root cause would be a piece of porcelain that broke off a cup and got stuck in the ball valve causing the overflow, much like in your video. Fixed the problem in 20 min, kudos!
