Im honestly not a huge fan of the new POI spawn system, it feels very non organic when zombies pop into existence after you get a certain distance into a building, it felt more immersive when you had to be quiet going through town so that you didnt start pulling zombies from all over.

    • @fusrosandvich3738
      @fusrosandvich3738 7 місяців тому +151

It also means that certain play styles are completely canned. I had a time when I decided to break through a wall using explosives instead of use the usual entrance and proceeded to have all the zombies spawn on top of me. In the old system i'dve woken them all up and been able to fight them from my chosen spot, now you're just purposefully walking into a monster closet.

I just found this out having just started playing, I chose a stealth style with points into that and it took a while but started to notice you can't actually stealth the game. Zombies can hear through anything, zombies get spawned in ontop of you, some are triggered by you moving onto a pre arranged location.
Now after adjusting that play style to just blow everything up Murica style to progress through the game I'm now encountering screamers spawning 24/7 ontop of my base because they magically know I am eating my steak under 1/2 a mile of solid rock.
Its a real disappointment that the core design of the game is done in a lacklustre and unintelligent manner, like the god awful skill book system

@shadowproductions969 I do some overhaul mods through mod launcher, but I don't usually do individual mods. May need to look into some, as Tem highlights a lot of great ones every 6 months or so.
I think an interesting solution could be to spawn / mark a much higher percentage at game launch. Basically nodes that would spawn the first time you got within X distance (just outside visual range), then disable the node so it's one time only. This would simulate a larger pre-existing population the player needs to thin out. The periodic 'standard' spawns would represent beds coming out of boltholes, POIs, etc.
This would really help sell the lone survivor vibe. When (A22 hopefully) we get bandits and raiders, then those areas could just have the existing spawns - as the raiders have cleared out the big herds for their own protection. Of course raiders with guns would, theoretically, be a bigger threat to the player...

I miss many things from early game, the GPS that let's see zombies nearby that got removed because of the crybabies saying that it was nor realistic, the crossbow that you could craft with wood and fiber and had no fall down on the bolts,i miss that the zombies could run in dark places not only at night and when lights would make zombies slower at night.
I miss spider zombie been able to climb walls,i miss when you could learn by doing instead perks and books, especially now because the new skill book system is super boring, because it forces you to explore to even be able to make a forge.
Before i could just spawn in a forest and never go to a city and you could make a base before you go exploring, but now you can't even make iron tools if you don't have the skill books, also some stuff take 100 skill books to unlock, which is just stupid it should be ONE book for each level, and even if you find all 100 books you can't craft level 6 stuff, many times i found level 6 stuff in boxes before i could even craft level 3 of some guns and armor.
Also they don't give us a bigger backpack which would be much better than that drone that keeps getting in the way and only tells you that there's a zombie near after the zombie notices you.

(besides the 9-mil and .44 I guess) I'm not a fan of the scrappy models, but they do make sense seeing as we are crafting them. I think this was also the era where the big city was at 0:0 and was wasteland. You didn't go to downtown until you were maxed out, because you would quickly get overrun as all the zombies in the POIs would come rushing out. There was no zombie cap those days so it could end up being 100+ surrounding you. The game would lag and you would die or it would crash. I could be thinking of a later alpha though.

I still miss the old more natural looking terrain and forest since A16. Luckily this still is the thing in console version but in current PC version most biomes look pretty boring and not so alike. Even tho the POIs are nowadays amazing but the terrain needs alot improvement and more dense forest and more trees is needed for the game. I never understood why the plains biome got deleted and many other classic biomes that used to exist back in A16 so did some trees like birch, maple and many other plant objects. Old pine forest was also my favourite. PC version is good for adventuring in POIs but console version is a lot better for landscape and terrain adventuring.

Something seems to me that in the old versions it was more severe, more difficult and scarier... And it will be great. In the current versions, it's cool, but there is a little lack of "living" zombies, when I entered the city, it is full of zombies, they wander by themselves, and if you make a noise, then you all run away or die, because it was unlikely that the zombies could kill the city) Now it's somehow not so scary, because you know where they spawn and their behavior is more obvious, there are several cool missions where zombies inexplicably spawn and run out from all sides (prison for cleaning), but after 2-3 passes they are no longer surprising...

I remember Alpha 15 on console, that was pure terror. I also remember the first time facing a Feral Wight and barely killing him and getting my first magnum from him. I think the scariness was that guns seriously took a backseat in those versions, being very rare. Meaning players had to focus on close combat more than just going "eh, blast em" with how the current alpha is where you're always finding tons of ammo and guns.

I started in Alpha 15, and I do miss certain parts of it
I do miss that if you fird a gun in the street, the zombies in all the POI's for like a block would claw their way out.
Alpha 15 feels more dangerous and real to me than alpha 20 or 21. Those have more of a video game feel to me
It's like the type of fun you can have in Alpha 15 and the type of fun offered in 20 or 21 is different. Alpha 15 feels much more like a real zombie apocalypse. Your skills grow over time, it's way harder to find and craft guns, zombies will pour out of buildings into the streets, loot was much worse, and the traders are just traders. They don't offer quests, and I feel like that's a bonus. Why would a trader want a specific location cleared out? then they do nothing with it. Missing supplies makes a little more sense, but they also put the supplies in really dumb (for human beings in universe) places.
Alphas 20 and 21 are much better video games. Way more viscerally satisfying to play, IMO. But they lack so many touches of realism that I do miss and sometimes play alpha 15, but let's face it, I play the new versions the vast majority of the time
I also miss the burned forest and the plains. I wish they kept the large number of biomes
I also really liked wellness. Really made death punishing, so I played super cautiously. Which I feel like is more realistic, though less fun

As someone that played mostly in the early days of this game (like right when it released on steam) it’s interesting seeing it again like this. I distinctly remember having a lot of fun huddling in a corner of a random attic with friends as we shot the shit waiting for daytime all in an effort to get to the wasteland as fast as possible so we could get to the capital building (I believe that’s what it was called) because there was a random empty space under the roof that we’d use as a bunker. Beyond actually making a base for yourself it was the single best spot to live for safety since literally nothing could get you there, and was high up enough all you had to worry about were the flying enemies. Damn what a vastly different time and game

If you know the mechanics (which weren't that difficult to learn), you had to work at it to get stuck in a deathloop. Don't use guns unless it's an emergency. Remember to sneak when near zeds. I started this game during Alpha 9 in 2014, to be safe at night I had to hunker down in an attic and wait for day time, having meat on you would attract them, opening/exiting a chest would attract them (if close enough to "hear" it) it was hard and I was loving it, Z's were unable to dig down so underground bases were safe (fight the hordes when you felt like it) it's like The Fun Pimps started the game based on a good Stephen King horror genre then Disney the shit out of it.
Joel said one day during his Q&A's, "It's not how we want you to play our game" talking about being safe underground and other ways player's found to make some 100% Z proof bases.

At night I was afraid to even move in my chair! To me, finding a trader in the middle of no where was a blast. To stumble on a cabin next to a lake made a great base, digging down for resources and making tunnels to different places, blowing up barrels, and building up your base was so much fun. Today it's so cookie cutter, too much of the same. Stamina sucks! Where are the random hoards? Finding an auger is impossible now, even getting the book to make one is so rare that I haven't seen one in over a year! It's too boarding, the fun is gone, it's too much like work now.

I've been playing since the very early days and I have to say I miss a LOT of things from way back. Food didn't look like you were eating a wallet, zombie variety, character creation options, the giant bees that gave you honey, exploding barrels, better shotgun, there were some zeds inside buildings but majority of them were aimlessly roaming until you made noise, zed movements were more varied, there was no ridiculous 5 ft reach on them, using parts to repair and upgrade. Hordes were more challenging. There was no stupid rage mode. Zeds took fall damage. Sneak really existed. It was terrifying playing back then with lots of creepy sound effects. There were also spots were it was ominously quiet outside of towns. It was much more immersive with the zeds roaming, following sound and could not magically detect you behind walls if you were quiet. What zombie builds trigger traps, climbs up in a ceiling then replaces the tile or builds an entire false wall and then just lies in wait behind it? How can they drop down and crawl under blocks but we can't? Why can a body made of rotting, mushy flesh slap through solid concrete in a matter of seconds? How can animals chew through metal doors like it was paper ffs? Vehicles could plow down most zeds for quite a while before needing repairs and didn't act like acrobats bouncing and flipping ridiculously all over when making contact with decaying zeds. Also, learn by doing not only made sense but was far more enjoyable for game play.

When it comes to zombie games, 7 Days to Die stands out as an open-world, true 3D experience. Project Zomboid comes in a close second, but it falls short due to its death-by-right-click gameplay and lack of visual quality. If The Fun Pimps (TFP) would genuinely listen to their fans, address the constant revisions of parts of the game that are overwhelmingly disliked by the community -cough- magazine skill tree -cough-, tackle the issue of rude forums, and escape the never-ending alpha stages, it could easily claim the top spot. However, Zomboid excels with modding features that make the game highly customizable, offering a significantly more polished overall experience. For these reasons, I believe it surpasses 7 Days to Die in it's current form.

Love that this is supposed to be nostalgia and I'm just like "looks just like the current console version."

Wellness system was some of the best things about the game, good thing that some modded versions like Darnkess Falls still includes it. Way more fun to play with that mechanic which rewards you for playing well.

The way it's implemented with huge (pretty much permanent) penalties every time you die, creates the endless death loop you see in this video. It's a needlessly frustrating mechanic that I'm glad is gone from the game. Once you've died twice, you might as well start the game over. That's not good game design, and it's not fun. Even Darkness Falls doesn't penalize you this much for dying repeatedly.

It's been YEARS since the last time I looked at this game. There certainly have been some improvements since then, but not enough to make me want to play it again.

I remember this, been playing 7 Days for years. It was always my favorite zombie survival because you could actually dig underground tunnels and build bases. You could even build a house if you wanted to and act like you were the last survivor of the area. Best part was generating your own map, especially when multiplayer versions had no limit, and treating it like you'd been dumped out of a plane to die but you just had to build up high enough to start heading back to take over like some action movie.
Sorry, part-time writer so I have LOTS of ideas on how to write stories based in this world.
