Good review. I watched this in the cinema when it came out. Not a film for the faint of heart. Harvey Keitel was really amazing!
A NY masterpiece! Such a depressing yet oddly cathartic experience. The kind of film you cannot tear your eyes away from no matter how dark it gets (which at times is as black as a midnight on a moonless night). It's tragi-comic without attempting to elicit laughter for the sake of levity. The film simply depicts how damn funny the human condition can be whilst it's crumbling.
Brilliant summary 👍🏻
Great review. My favorite Keitel performance in 1978 is the film “Fingers”. I saw it in the theaters in NYC upon release. It is hard to find as it’s only released on DVD but should be seen. It was James Toback’s first film.
One of my favorite films that reminds me of another favorite film portraying the unraveling of the main character - Repulsion.
This is an old quote " Harvey Keitel is right out there on the fucking edge" saw this film back in 1995 top drawer movie a sort of dark fairytale of new York.
I liked the movie, but the worst thing about drug addiction is ending up religious.
Gotta put your faith somewhere, seems like a viable solution for drugs/alcohol/general apathy, etc. Why do you think it’s bad? Everyone’s trying to find something to have faith in, Ferrara included.
Harvey Keitel was incredible in this
Just watched this, fucking insane
A 1990 movie called Q and A. Were nick nolte plays a corrupt detective in new York city directed by Sidney lumet, is worth a review.
Hey Paul, thanks for the suggestion. Not heard of it before, I’ll be sure to check it out 👍🏻
@@filmsceneinvestigation no problem, it's hard to say who is the most corrupt cop out of Keitel and nick nolte's characters, but both are mesmerising performences.
Just to add another one , Internal Affairs starring Richard Gere as a corrupt cop with Andy Garcia as an internal investigator
Nolte playing a corrupt cop directed by Lumet? I’m sold
@@AW-kr9fl it's a great movie and nolte is like an Evil jack Cates from 48hrs
