I do hope you continue these videos. I sat down recently with my Grandmother and Mother and watched quite a few of your videos on Boat Bluff. You see I'm the Grandson of Clayton Ralph Marshall, who was keeper there (with his wife and kids, my mother being one of them) from 1966-67. So having my family watch these videos was very interesting as they could point out what hadn't changed (apparently your helipad and your water source are pretty much the same although my Grandmother said they didn't put Bleach in their water!) So I hope you continue to find stories to tell about this neat piece of BC history. Matt
Wow, that is awesome you found my channel. I am glad to be able to bring some new insight to some very amazing history. I hope to get back to making videos soon. I have been busy but I really want to get back to it.
Love the vids. Keep us posted. Most people just want a window into your life. We aren’t as interested in fancy editing or catchy tunes, so just throw up a day in the life for us that want to escape for a little into a life that seems unique and what probably many of us could have when things get ridiculous here in the “mainstream”. I bet most people who watch would tune in every day to just follow you on a normal day with very little commentary. Thanks for making your life accessible to us, and hope life is good for you.
Thank you so much for your support. I am sorry I have been so quiet lately but I am looking to get back into making some content soon. Keep an eye out!
Just found your channel! Watched all your videos instantly! I also want to be a keeper! It's always been my dream! Living all by yourself apart from all the chaos.. This idea always fascinated me! Im glad i found your channel! Inspired me a lot! Keep doing the good work! Take care of yourself! Hope one day i will become a keeper and enjoy my dream like you do! Love from bangladesh 🇧🇩
Big fan! Hope all is okay since it's been a bit since your last post. I find your lifestyle super idyllic, and I envy jobs like this or park rangers. The scenery is too beautiful. As a guy living a normal life in the Cali tech scene, this world is like a fantasy for me. Was curious, is the job market pretty competitive? Is the pay and benefits good? Also saw you playing mass effect in one of your vids. Is the internet good enough to play online games? Also I'd recommend checking out outdoor chef life on YT! Cool japanese west coast chef who forages stuff like uni and makes sick dishes with them.
Thanks so much for your comments. I know it has been a while since I have posted anything. I really should get on that. haha. It is not too difficult to get in as a keeper, especially if you are willing to start as a relief keeper and the Coast Guard is always looking for people for relief. Once you are in a relief it is a pretty short step to becoming more like full time. Especially if you make the office aware that you really really want it. Pay is decent but not awesome, I won't be buying any Lamborghini any time soon but my expenses are tiny and I don't have to pay rent so really, it is a lot better than if I was working in town. Government work so it is government benefits, they are good and cover a lot including a good pension plan. Internet will depend on where you are located. Some stations have great internet and some not so good or not at all. Once the Elon Musk new satellite system is in place in northern Canada and we are able to get onto their network then everything should be good to go. As it is, I use my cell phone for all data and that is not awesome. I get 25 gig at fast speeds which I use in less than a week most of the time and then I am throttled to 512k speeds. it hurts. haha. Thanks for the recommendation. I will check it.
Thanks Mel, and to you as well. (I know it is a little late). I know I haven't been active much the last few months. It is amazing how time goes by so fast once you are 'settled' into a spot. Every day is kind of the same and goes by really quick.
I've got a question. I'm currently finishing up 20 years in the RCN. I'm thinking of applying to be a lighthouse keeper. I am married with three children and eventually would like to bring the family along. (Details can follow seperate correspondence) Im having hard time finding details and or policy. Are you able to point me in the right direction? Would it be a long process before becoming a permanent and primary keeper? Just like being in the RCN, I didn't join for the money. I joined and served for the life experience and adventure.
If you go to the Jobs Canada website and search for Lighthouse Keeper it should come up with the applicaiton page. There will be tons of information there that you would need for the application. If you wish to know more or want to talk to me more direct, you can email me or message me through my facebook page.
It's been ten months since your last video. Are you still working on lighthouses? Are you ok ? I hope all is well. I love the videos. I always wanted to do that job but I never had the opportunity. So I became an engineer.
I am still working, sorry to be so quiet lately. Lots going on. haha. You can still become a keeper if you are in Canada. There is much need for new keepers at this time.
@@BCLighthouseKeeper Spence! It's been 6 months since you've uploaded, Are you alright? Did you yell "OIL!" and was killed by the U.S Navy? Were you moved somewhere else?!
Yes indeed. I hope to have both my wife and daughter live with me soon. Still trying to process all the necessary paperwork. Covid really slowed everything down.

Pets are fine as long as you are full time in a position. Dog, cat, canary, whatever you like as long as it can get to the station on the helicopter. You aren't allowed any farm type animals tho, no chickens, pigs, sheet, goats or cows. No fresh eggs for me.

Question: If you yell "OIL" will the U.S. Navy be there In 0.02 seconds?
It is a possibility. I am unwilling to try tho... 😅

Can you get a pet? Like a cat or a goldfish or something?
