Thank you for another entertaining video. I purchased the Girsan Regard MC last year. I had always wanted a Beretta 92 or M9, or even a Taurus PT92, but with the pandemic, though, these guns had disappeared from inventory for a while. Recently, new stock has started to arrive in the stores, and there were a number of guns from Turkey also available. I noticed that the guns from Turkey were popular for both their price and quality, then I saw that they had their own version of the Beretta 92. After some online research on the Girsan Regard, it seemed to be respected by a lot of reviewers. It is being imported through EAA, which I have experience with after purchasing a Tangfolio Witness a long time ago. EAA carries spare parts, accessories, and do repairs on what they sell, so this made me feel better about buying a gun from a previously unknown vendor. Anyway, I took a leap and bought the Girsan Regard MC. The price was several hundred dollars below the Beretta, while the Taurus PT92 model that used to be available at a reasonable price, was no where to be found. So, the quality of the Regard seems to be well done and the trigger is quite nice out of the box. The shop was slow that evening so we compared the Regard with the Beretta 92. They are very similar in quality. The Regard does come with only one magazine only, though. You can get additional magazines from EAA, but I found the MEC-GAR MGPB9218AFC magazine works perfectly and can be found for much less than the official Girsan magazines (also made by MEC-GAR). So far, I'm finding that most holsters made for the Beretta M9A1 seem to work with the Regard. I think that Girsan Regard MC and their other variants of the Beretta 92 are fine pistols and given the choice to do over, I would purchase this pistol again.
Put a 'D' weight hammer spring in the Regard for less than five bucks, and it's every bit the equal of the Berettas on the range. Use some of the hundreds you save on the purchase price and put an adjustable rear sight on it to be able to dial in your point of impact with different loads. In terms of durability, I'd wager the Girsan is more rugged than the Italian guns. That's why I bought one.

One of my continual concerns with “modern firearms purchasing” is the very large number of consumers (especially newbies) who erroneously feel their one (?) weapon must be new, have all the “bells and whistles” (e.g., ultra Hugh capacity is a good example), and also be manufactured by Glock, Sig, Smith, Ruger, etc. The plain fact (as we both know) is most of these folks would be far better served to buy a “much carried and little shot” police trade in, such as an old Smith Model 10, 15, 60, 66, 686, or an original M&P 1, or a Ruger GP100 would be excellent examples . . . and then using the hundreds of dollars saved for instruction, range time, and ammunition.
I see a lot of shooters like myself feel that CZ is at the top of their game . But for those that cannot afford the price . Sarsilmaz or sarusa is a viable option . Their tooling was purchased from CZ quite a long while ago for supplying the Turkish military . Millions of firearms later , supplying both their military , NATO and police forces around the world . The prices have steadily increased as well as their reputation . Sar k2 45acp double/ single action heavy combat pistol with an awesome grip for a double stack 45 , forged frame, slide with slide rails inside of the frame , adjustable rear sight . Girsan made about 100K of these licensed copies for Turkish cops and military, and they passed tougher mil-spec tests than the M9 did for the US (30K per pistol endurance test for example, compared to the 7K in the US testing). They've worked fine for them for years. All my Mec-Gar Beretta M9 18 round mags work in it and it fits in my M9A1 holster too. A good gun at a good price. BTW, Girsan made 1911s for the Turkish Special Forces too.
This should be good … I have a friend that owns a Girsan. I shot it and liked it … my brother has a Beretta that it clones and I liked that as well. I preferred the feel of the Beretta as it was a vintage 80s with wood grips BUT the Girsan performed beautifully too.
I've got a Girsan 1911. There are some nit-picks I have with it, but I will say the gun works well. My biggest qualm is the slightly undersized Pic rail, which leaves the laser I put on it prone to losing zero easy. I'll have to go back to the drawing board there. Good to see the trend continues with their M92. Looks like a solid buy.
Plastic Guide rod? Was that in original 92s ? I will take the Newcomer for Price and strength. I'm wondering if you would have hit the tack with the other 2 ? But watching a lot of your videos I would put my money on the " TACK DRIVER" Another great video BEST!
I think the original specs for the 92 required a steel guide rod. Somewhere along the way, that was changed. The steel versions are still available from Beretta.
I have several DA S&W revolvers in my safe. I love them! DA/SA semi-autos? Not so much. I had a P226 when they sold “CPO" versions and, that thing was a tack driver and reliable. I purchased a Taurus PT99 (adjustable sights) years ago and sadly traded it off believing I needed something different. One thing to say about it: love the controls on the frame mounted safety/decocker. Been eyeing the M9A3/M9A4 for a while but just couldn’t justify $1000+ for a safe Queen. Enter the Girsan Regard MC Sport Gen 4. It’s their “G” style decocker model. Changed two things right at the jump: 14# hammer spring from LTT & the slide stop. When I got the Regard, I went on the hunt for M9 surplus magazines for range duty. Not dropping expensive mags in the dirt or on the concrete. Found those for $9.99 and bought all I could afford! The original slide stop did not engage those magazines hence the reason for the swap. One issue I had was the front sight became loose and needed Locktited in place. No big deal. As of this writing, I’ve got north of 1,000 rounds through this pistol with zero issues or faults. In fact, I just took my Regard to the range to shoot a TDA Dot Torture Drill with it. My reloads, 124gr RN bullet @ 1200fps ran flawlessly through this pistol and I’d like to say I was one shot away from acing the drill. 49/50. All that being said, and I know it was a lot, I suppose my summary or all those words above would be: I find the Regard to be a good and reliable pistol worthy of consideration by all. Seems to me that the Girsan is just a direct copy of a Beretta. However, it's a very good copy, so there's no apparent reason that it shouldn't work as well as a Beretta. It doesn't cost quite as much, but even that is pretty close to the Beretta. If you really want a Beretta and can't find a used one, get a Girsan.
I was looking to pick one of these up originally. But I found a used 92 FS, at a solid price. So I pulled the trigger on the Beretta, instead. I do own their 1911 MC Match. I like the fact that it has a milled frame. Unlike some other 1911 companies, that cast their frames. (Rock Island, Ruger & Remington. Just to name a few.) A very solid pistol, for the money. Turkey firearm manufacturers, have been knocking it out of the park, as of late! Thanks for the share!!
People underestimate the effort required to "reverse engineer" a firearm, or anything else from a model or example. Production engineering is a vital, but disregarded art. That is what make the Technical Data Package a very valuable thing. Geoff Who admires the Engineering as Art.
The only changes I've made to my Regard MC are G10 grips and putting straps of skateboard tape in the finger grooves to give me better purchase on my grip.
This is the gun I purchased as my first handgun. The only complaint if you call it one, is the weight of the trigger pull. For someone new to handguns, I consider this a plus personally. In my opinion is that this is the perfect first gun.
You can rectify that heavy double action pull with a hammer spring change. The Regard comes with a 20 pound NATO spec spring; you can buy a Beretta 'D' 16 pound spring for about five bucks that will drop the trigger pull about three pounds, without affecting the reliablity of the gun at all. Even if you can't do the simple change yourself, any ethical gunsmith wouldn't charge more than about $20 to do this two minute job.
Congratulations on your decision, you are now the owner of a time proven virtually indestructible, flawlessly working pistol. The trigger pull is on the heavier side, true, but the reason for that is it being a heavy duty service and combat pistol. A featherlight trigger is not something desired in the hands of law enforcement officers and soldiers because they need to draw and shoot in very stressful conditions. Light and short travel triggers are better and desired for sportive competition use where the shooter is relaxed and focused.
I'm willing to bet that the Girsan Regard is going to be just fine for long term durability issues. It might be pretty new to the American market but it's not a newly developed firearm. It was around for a while and has a history of military and police use. The Turks have been making quality guns for years now and they have a history of preferring some of the worlds best guns for their service ranks.
I told ya that I would wait on this video before the purchase. I know the grips are interchangable on the 92fs and the Girsan Regard. I have a Crimson Trace LG-402 laser grips, I wonder they will fit the Girsan. The different finger groves might hinder proper fitting. That still won't be a deal breaker. I looked at this regard at the gun shop today and absolutely could not believe what a quality piece that thing is, if this where the model Beretta i wanted i would hands down buy the regard over it.

I like M9 ,husky for plus p and good magazines unlike glock,hard to limpwrist and just a great pistol overall,military had no sound reason to move to the plastic Sig,pistols are rarely to never actially used in war zones anyway.
While watching the range tests, I realized I may not be in the majority of shooters. Shooting for numerical score is very different from tactical shooting and there are those people that think ONLY about defensive possibilities. And I am always considering punching accurate holes in paper. It seems to me if a full-size pistol fits your carry plan, any of the three is a good choice. Will the Girsan be reliable for many years like the Beretta--time will tell. Even naysayers must be impressed with the double action disappearing tack trick; I certainly am.
With the exception of the finger grooves and going with the regular vertical striations rather than the better checkering on the front and backstraps of the grip, this is a fairly close match to an M9A1 in terms of features, and arguably offers a more versatile rail than the M9A1. Something I've noticed also is that the safety lever on the left hand side (which most rightys will use) seems to stick out a bit farther than a regular M9 or 92Fs. For those who want or need to use a safety on their pistol while holstered due to company or department policy, this might be helpful. Definitely a good alternative to those who cannot afford the considerably higher price tag of an M9A3/A4 or even a 92X.
Doesn't matter what the price tag says, the Girsan is made to the same standards on the same tooling that Berettas are made on. You aren't getting much of anything for the higher price of the Italian guns. Would you have paid more for a Chevy Cavalier if Cadillac re-badged it claiming it was 'superior' to a mere Chevrolet?
@@shawnwells5719 Hi Shawn, I actually have a Girsan just like the one seen in this video. It is actually one of my favorite guns, and I am a big fan of these. I have no hangups thus far with the quality on the Girsan guns I've handled, they seem good to go. I was mostly just trying to make the point that for someone trying to get into Berettas and trying to see if they like them, these would be probably a better choice for a first "92 style" gun over an M9A4 or 92X, as those are reasonably more expensive guns, due to features that may or may not be important to a new shooter to the 92 series (as well as being branded with the Beretta name). The only things really that set this particular Girsan apart from the current Beretta M9s or 92FS pistols are the finger grooves, and the lack of an enlarged hammer pin and corresponding "FS" cut underneath the slide (so the slide and hammer pins are based on the older 92F design, rather than the later *92FS* ). If the finger grooves weren't there, and the FS cut on the slide and M9A1 checkering were present, this would be feature wise almost exactly on par with the Beretta M9A1, for less money. If people don't mind a fixed front sight, and are ok with the finger grooves, I honestly would suggest people try a Regard MC over an M9 or 92FS first, because I think in some ways the Girsan is a better gun with more features than the actual Beretta 92FS.
Nice review! I’d like to see you add the other 2 (licensed) variant’s, the PT92 and the Langdon Tactical. Now that would be a serious range review. My thoughts are, it’s simply a proven design and seeing it as a classic is not misplaced. Thanks again for awesome content.

You might need to fit slightly the LTT trigger bar, the same way you possibly might need to slightly fit the bar on Italian (not U.S.) made M9/92Fs pistols, and Beretta grips might need some filing in the screw holes to fit the Girsan properly, but everything else should be fine.
@@hrfunk I read different things and I doubt LTT would answer once the word "Girsan" is said. Given they sell customized Berettas. Honestly don't want to give money to people who hate me but I think M9 variants are usually overpriced.

Good review. I've never had any interest in the Beretta at all (don't ask why, I have no idea), but I do have a Girsay MC P-35 (Hi-Power) that I'm quite happy with. It seems they make good guns.
Another excellent video. As I have said elsewhere, I would really like to see someone do is a detail strip-down and parts switch on the Girsan to see if it will function OK. Beretta surplus M-9 parts are cheap these days and so are the mags; if the Girsan is your main squeeze it gives confidence to know you are fixed up if need be. Anyway, thanks for a well done video.
I enjoyed the review which I think was well done and a fair comparison of the Girsan to the Berettas. I am NOT a Beretta M92 fan but am a fan of Girsan pistols in general. Girsan makes excellent pistols, especially for what they cost.
I have put 6000 + through my girsan regard never a failure the parts look immaculate other then the finish on them it’s not as good as beretta the girsan started showing blueing where after 500 rounds. Had it refinished in OD green. It’s a great gun for the price and preferred it over most berettas . On a side note I also changed out the grips and used berettas 92 pattern fit perfectly.
I don’t have any personal experience with the Taurus PT92, so I can’t really comment on it one way or the other. The Regard is a good pistol and it compared very favorably to my Berettas. I suppose the decision comes down to whether or not you like the finger-grooves in the grip.
The results of this test didnt surprise me. Girsan makes an excellent Beretta 92 clone. I am, however, surprised to see the M9A3 shoot the weakest accuracy wise compared to the other two.
@@hrfunk Perhaps the trigger being significantly lighter than the other two might contribute to it? Possibly pulling the trigger with more force than you intended (especially after shootong the other two immediately beforehand), causing the shot to be pulled unintentionally? I'm sure a few snap caps mixed in with live rounds next time you take the M9A3 to the range might be able to solve this mystery.
There's one bad part about girsan in general and it's that their barrels are always improperly aiming towards the lower left. Not sure why their barrels locking lugs aren't matching with the slide locking parts. Seems to aim right as soon as you replace the barrel with a genuine barrel that the gun is based on. Had this problem on the Beretta clone and the hi power clone
I have noticed that the M9A3 preformed (barely) as the worst in almost all of these tests, minus the failure drill. I almost feel bad for it, but I have to say, I think it is the best looking handgun out of the three.
You're a good shot sir but that 20ft tack driver on DA was at least 50% luck. As the saying goes "sometimes it's better to be lucky than good." Still, a hit is a hit.
I have 4 girsan regards which I purchased mainly because of the cost. I don't have a trigger pull scale but I can honestly say the trigger pull on my regards seems much lighter than both my 92fs'. I have to admit even though I trained with and carried a 92fs while in the army. I can shoot the regards a lot better.
The critics of Girsan, and other imports, frequently question the durability. I have the Girsan 1911 copy basic model, & doubt very seriously I'll "shoot it loose." A couple of gunsmiths I know who aren't afraid to call crap crap say the Girsan pistols are well made with good quality parts.
As far as the price goes nowadays you might as well just buy a Beretta because the Girsans are getting more and more expensive. When I purchase my first regard it was only maybe $300. So I bought a full size and a compact years ago before what happened with the pricing happened with the I knew eventually the distributors were going to get greedy and jack the prices up once everyone caught on.

It was a licensed copy with modifications. Improved locking block and slide. Pistols tested to 30k rounds each.
Yup. Made on Beretta tooling, to NATO standards. Nothing reversed about it.
The only changes I've made to my Regard MC are G10 grips and putting straps of skateboard tape in the finger grooves to give me better purchase on my grip.

This is the gun I purchased as my first handgun. The only complaint if you call it one, is the weight of the trigger pull. For someone new to handguns, I consider this a plus personally. In my opinion is that this is the perfect first gun.
You can rectify that heavy double action pull with a hammer spring change. The Regard comes with a 20 pound NATO spec spring; you can buy a Beretta 'D' 16 pound spring for about five bucks that will drop the trigger pull about three pounds, without affecting the reliablity of the gun at all. Even if you can't do the simple change yourself, any ethical gunsmith wouldn't charge more than about $20 to do this two minute job.

Congratulations on your decision, you are now the owner of a time proven virtually indestructible, flawlessly working pistol. The trigger pull is on the heavier side, true, but the reason for that is it being a heavy duty service and combat pistol. A featherlight trigger is not something desired in the hands of law enforcement officers and soldiers because they need to draw and shoot in very stressful conditions. Light and short travel triggers are better and desired for sportive competition use where the shooter is relaxed and focused.
I'm willing to bet that the Girsan Regard is going to be just fine for long term durability issues. It might be pretty new to the American market but it's not a newly developed firearm. It was around for a while and has a history of military and police use. The Turks have been making quality guns for years now and they have a history of preferring some of the worlds best guns for their service ranks.
I told ya that I would wait on this video before the purchase. I know the grips are interchangable on the 92fs and the Girsan Regard. I have a Crimson Trace LG-402 laser grips, I wonder they will fit the Girsan. The different finger groves might hinder proper fitting. That still won't be a deal breaker. I looked at this regard at the gun shop today and absolutely could not believe what a quality piece that thing is, if this where the model Beretta i wanted i would hands down buy the regard over it.

I like M9 ,husky for plus p and good magazines unlike glock,hard to limpwrist and just a great pistol overall,military had no sound reason to move to the plastic Sig,pistols are rarely to never actially used in war zones anyway.
I think the Girsan Regard is a winner for a combat pistol.

While watching the range tests, I realized I may not be in the majority of shooters. Shooting for numerical score is very different from tactical shooting and there are those people that think ONLY about defensive possibilities. And I am always considering punching accurate holes in paper. It seems to me if a full-size pistol fits your carry plan, any of the three is a good choice. Will the Girsan be reliable for many years like the Beretta--time will tell. Even naysayers must be impressed with the double action disappearing tack trick; I certainly am.

With the exception of the finger grooves and going with the regular vertical striations rather than the better checkering on the front and backstraps of the grip, this is a fairly close match to an M9A1 in terms of features, and arguably offers a more versatile rail than the M9A1.
Something I've noticed also is that the safety lever on the left hand side (which most rightys will use) seems to stick out a bit farther than a regular M9 or 92Fs. For those who want or need to use a safety on their pistol while holstered due to company or department policy, this might be helpful.
Definitely a good alternative to those who cannot afford the considerably higher price tag of an M9A3/A4 or even a 92X.
Doesn't matter what the price tag says, the Girsan is made to the same standards on the same tooling that Berettas are made on. You aren't getting much of anything for the higher price of the Italian guns. Would you have paid more for a Chevy Cavalier if Cadillac re-badged it claiming it was 'superior' to a mere Chevrolet?
@@shawnwells5719 Hi Shawn, I actually have a Girsan just like the one seen in this video. It is actually one of my favorite guns, and I am a big fan of these. I have no hangups thus far with the quality on the Girsan guns I've handled, they seem good to go.
I was mostly just trying to make the point that for someone trying to get into Berettas and trying to see if they like them, these would be probably a better choice for a first "92 style" gun over an M9A4 or 92X, as those are reasonably more expensive guns, due to features that may or may not be important to a new shooter to the 92 series (as well as being branded with the Beretta name).
The only things really that set this particular Girsan apart from the current Beretta M9s or 92FS pistols are the finger grooves, and the lack of an enlarged hammer pin and corresponding "FS" cut underneath the slide (so the slide and hammer pins are based on the older 92F design, rather than the later *92FS* ). If the finger grooves weren't there, and the FS cut on the slide and M9A1 checkering were present, this would be feature wise almost exactly on par with the Beretta M9A1, for less money.
If people don't mind a fixed front sight, and are ok with the finger grooves, I honestly would suggest people try a Regard MC over an M9 or 92FS first, because I think in some ways the Girsan is a better gun with more features than the actual Beretta 92FS.

Which has the "Least Bad" trigger? I'm curious how many LTT parts can drop into A girsan but buying an M9 is on the backburner if at all.
You might need to fit slightly the LTT trigger bar, the same way you possibly might need to slightly fit the bar on Italian (not U.S.) made M9/92Fs pistols, and Beretta grips might need some filing in the screw holes to fit the Girsan properly, but everything else should be fine.
Anything that fits a Beretta pistol should also work in the Girsan (except the barrel and locking block).
@@hrfunk I read different things and I doubt LTT would answer once the word "Girsan" is said. Given they sell customized Berettas. Honestly don't want to give money to people who hate me but I think M9 variants are usually overpriced.

Good review. I've never had any interest in the Beretta at all (don't ask why, I have no idea), but I do have a Girsay MC P-35 (Hi-Power) that I'm quite happy with. It seems they make good guns.
I shot one of those a couple of months ago, albeit a highly customized version. I thought it was a well-made handgun also.

Another excellent video. As I have said elsewhere, I would really like to see someone do is a detail strip-down and parts switch on the Girsan to see if it will function OK. Beretta surplus M-9 parts are cheap these days and so are the mags; if the Girsan is your main squeeze it gives confidence to know you are fixed up if need be. Anyway, thanks for a well done video.

I have put 6000 + through my girsan regard never a failure the parts look immaculate other then the finish on them it’s not as good as beretta the girsan started showing blueing where after 500 rounds.
Had it refinished in OD green. It’s a great gun for the price and preferred it over most berettas . On a side note I also changed out the grips and used berettas 92 pattern fit perfectly.

I don’t have any personal experience with the Taurus PT92, so I can’t really comment on it one way or the other. The Regard is a good pistol and it compared very favorably to my Berettas. I suppose the decision comes down to whether or not you like the finger-grooves in the grip.

The results of this test didnt surprise me. Girsan makes an excellent Beretta 92 clone.
I am, however, surprised to see the M9A3 shoot the weakest accuracy wise compared to the other two.
For reasons I've never fully determined, I don't shoot that pistol as well as I do my standard M9.
@@hrfunk Perhaps the trigger being significantly lighter than the other two might contribute to it? Possibly pulling the trigger with more force than you intended (especially after shootong the other two immediately beforehand), causing the shot to be pulled unintentionally? I'm sure a few snap caps mixed in with live rounds next time you take the M9A3 to the range might be able to solve this mystery.
@@burnyburnoutze2nd I considered that. Transitioning back-and-forth between three different pistols probably did not help my accuracy any.
There's one bad part about girsan in general and it's that their barrels are always improperly aiming towards the lower left. Not sure why their barrels locking lugs aren't matching with the slide locking parts.
Seems to aim right as soon as you replace the barrel with a genuine barrel that the gun is based on.
Had this problem on the Beretta clone and the hi power clone

I have noticed that the M9A3 preformed (barely) as the worst in almost all of these tests, minus the failure drill. I almost feel bad for it, but I have to say, I think it is the best looking handgun out of the three.

I had to do a higher rear sight swap on both my M9a3's. Both shot low.
Mine tends to shoot a bit low too, but I think that’s because it was intended for NATO ammo.

I have 4 girsan regards which I purchased mainly because of the cost. I don't have a trigger pull scale but I can honestly say the trigger pull on my regards seems much lighter than both my 92fs'. I have to admit even though I trained with and carried a 92fs while in the army. I can shoot the regards a lot better.

The critics of Girsan, and other imports, frequently question the durability. I have the Girsan 1911 copy basic model, & doubt very seriously I'll "shoot it loose." A couple of gunsmiths I know who aren't afraid to call crap crap say the Girsan pistols are well made with good quality parts.

It's possible. All the springs should be interchangeable.
The only real difference between these pistols is the price.
As far as the price goes nowadays you might as well just buy a Beretta because the Girsans are getting more and more expensive. When I purchase my first regard it was only maybe $300. So I bought a full size and a compact years ago before what happened with the pricing happened with the I knew eventually the distributors were going to get greedy and jack the prices up once everyone caught on.

The ethics of purchasing an imposter exclude this pistol from any consideration by me. I would and already have spent the money for the genuine M9A4.
I think the big thing with pistols like the Regard is they provide a viable alternative to shooters who can't afford the more expensive options.
