And then the 2019 remake came along and we’re all still scratching our heads and thinking WTF happened.
A remake that no one asked for. It's just a dumbed down version of the original.
What, it got REMADE again??? Ughh
I really enjoy how the other 2 personalities are shoot.Evil Andy is shoot in a high imposing angle while Good Andy is shoot on a kinda pathetic angle.Basic stuff, but it adds to the flavour.
It's that kinda detail that I appreciate. This channel is quite refreshing.
ya i also like the fact when he is just andy its on the level
Oh god I can only imagine what Andy is gonna do to the 2019 remake
Boots to reboot of reboots this one. 👌
Loss what’s left of his mind
I just couldn't with the remake, and I TRIED when it was on TV because I know a lot of the people who are in it. I LOVE the original, especially Lt. Fuller and Jess, and the fact that Billy was so perfect as a killer who just happened to be hanging around killing people every so often while we're all tied up in the characters' problems. I can't get enough of how Billy is literally just some random guy who climbs into an attic, WALKS AROUND IN THE HOUSE WITH NOBODY SEEING HIM, and goes in and out to kill people, and he makes all kinds of noise that people hear but nobody investigates. Clearly he's been calling the sorority house for a while, probably spying on them, but we never find out who he even is or where he belongs! John Carpenter once said Halloween had started out as being a sequel to Black Christmas because he was a big fan and you know what? I LOVE that idea so much because Michael Myers as he began, everything he does in the first movie, makes perfect sense if it's Billy because he's just INSANE, that's all the motivation he needs, and he WOULD go from the obscene phone calls and talking to himself and freaking out to being completely silent and trailing people, standing in the dark just watching them. It's too bad it didn't work out that way with Lt. Fuller looking for him, Dr. Loomis could have still been his doctor who had warned the hospital he wasn't well so they shouldn't release him but naturally they do anyway because he shows them what they want to see (think Angela in Sleepaway Camp 2), and I could've gotten to see John Saxon and Donald Pleasence together. As it is John could have at least written in that Laurie was so freaked out by the random guy watching her and the weird phone call BECAUSE she had seen 'Black Christmas', it bothered her that much. Plus you've got to love how Jess is a final girl who not only had sex but is PREGNANT and we're not even sure if she dies.
I don't blame the director for this bad re-boot, the studio fought with him the entire time to be gory and less suspenseful. The cinematography is beautiful thought a very colourful horror film
I know, me neither, I read the script and was like 'WHY did they screw this up?!' Especially since he directed my favorite Final Destination movies!
@@jemofthe80s18 Can you link me to the script you read that was good before the producers screw it up?
Andy You Rule And Your Channel Rocks Dude!!

Thanks!

"Andy's"
Black Christmas (1974) is a very influential film of the genre. I’m so upset that the film doesn’t get a lot of recognition. Black Christmas to me has the equivalent of influence than that of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Which coincidentally, was released the same year as Black Christmas. These two are my favorite horror films of all time!
I generally consider the 1970s to be the peak of film-making. There was so much innovation and creativity across multiple genres, that many of the conventions established then have remained essential components to this day.
I never saw the original but I liked the remake when I first saw it, but the original looks way scarier, when I watch that scene of the killer on the phone talking to Jess it gives me chills
The original is far more suspenseful with great actors. Plus the phone calls in the original are horrifying; the editing team spliced together different voiceovers (including director Bob Clark) to scare the actresses similar to Wes Craven having Roger L. Jackson do the phone calls live on-set in the “Scream” series
The remake is a good contemporary slasher movie but the original genuinely scares me to death. Will make you double check the locks on your doors at night.
The thing is I saw the Original yesterday, terrifying and better than When a Stranger Calls, I never saw the remake but I figured out by the end that the killer had brown eyes while the hot tempered boyfriend has green when I saw his death so yep that let me knew the real killer was in the house.
I love your videos SOOO much!!!! how do you only have 194 subs???? YOU SHOULD HAVE 100000
HicksZ34 he’s back don’t worry
So this is how you got the infamous boot.
Evil Andy equals adult me on Christmas.
Oh my god, I remember getting so livid when I saw this movie and realized none of the stuff from the trailers was in the film. I actually wound up getting into a fight with someone trying to excuse it on the yahoo forums.
And you can thank the exec producer Harvey Weinstein for molesting this movie also
Props to you the audio on your videos is amazing listening to it on my car stereo you can hear how high quality the audio and video is in your videos. Kudos Andy
So is billy a Simpson?
CornSandwich Nope, he has jaundice.
The second remake of black Christmas, makes this one look like a frickin masterpiece...
Nice how you touched on MAgnes (Male Agnes).
This film had one of the most, if not the most disgusting backstory I've heard for a killer. Being "assaulted" by his own mother, having a daughter/sister, then her turning out to be the murderer? I remember the first time I saw this years ago, I almost felt nauseous when Agnes' face appeared similar to Billy's. And people wonder why incest is frowned upon?
I don't care if it was deemed "necessary" at one time to help our species survive or preserve bloodlines. Those ideals are remnants of a time long gone, and they should stay in the past where they belong. Even if it was necessary back then, it's still gross.
***** If there's one bright side to cloning, I suppose it's that it could make such an extreme measure unnecessary even if we have a population emergency. I don't know, maybe clones will be common and accepted as people like anyone else one day, but I suspect it will be after my lifetime.
Glen Morgan approached Mary Elizabeth Winstead about the movie at 4 AM in the airport after finishing Final Destination 3 (2006) with her. After being hesitant at first after only just finishing a horror movie, she agreed to the role of "Heather" because she is a fan of the 1974 version.
Michelle Trachtenberg became interested in serial killers during production and would often do research on them while on breaks.
Last movie with the score composed by Shirley Walker before her unfortunate passing on November 29, 2006 one month before the theatrical release of this film. The film is dedicated to her memory.
During one scene the famous "leg lamp" from A Christmas Story (1983) can be seen in the background. This may be a reference to Bob Clark, the director of the original Black Christmas. He also directed A Christmas Story in 1983.
Glen Morgan was good friends with Bob Clark who directed the original Black Christmas (1974). He received his blessing to direct this film and remained on set as executive producer. Clark managed to watch the remake before he passed away.
The sanitarium in the film is "Clark Sanitarium," a reference to Bob Clark, director of the original Black Christmas (1974).
Bacon was used as the garnish which was baked into the Christmas cookies Billy ingested in the "cannibalistic cookie" scene.
The film's color palette, and the Christmas decorations, were intentionally pushed with an overtly red color scheme as a stylistic choice by Morgan, who wanted to evoke an "American Christmas," which he characterized as being a cross between "Washington Irving and Coca-Cola."
Kristen Cloke also was featured on a "Final Destination" film. This would make her the fourth actor from that series to appear in this film. The other three would be Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe, and Jody Racicot, all of whom star in Final Destination 3 (2006) as the lead, the other in the tanning bed scenes, and the other as a minor character. Kristen appears in the original Final Destination (2000) as the teacher.
Kristen Cloke was in Final Destination (2000), while Mary Elizabeth Winstead was in Final Destination 3 (2006).
Melissa (Michelle Trachtenberg) dies when part of her head is cut off by an ice skate. Trachtenberg had just portrayed an ice skater one year earlier in the movie Ice Princess (2005).
Out of all the actresses in the film, Lacey Chabert is the only one out of all the others in the film that was not involved with the horror genre, whether it be a movie or TV series, prior to this film.
The liver disease that Billy (Cainan Wiebe as a child/Robert Mann as an adult) had in the film is actually a real sickness. A concentration higher than approx. 3 mg/dL (>50µmol/L) in your liver can lead to jaundice, which is the name of the disease.
Christina Crivici's debut.
Katie Cassidy and Michelle Trachtenberg appeared on Gossip Girl (2007)
I like both. I understand why it got the boot, and I like the review. But definitely a fan of both. 👍👍
I agree!!! The trailer got me exited to see it from the scenes not put in the movie... And then disappointment set in.
When i saw billy kill his mum i felt no remorse she deserved that
Aaaaaand they’re doing it again. Brilliant.
I love the way you review. It's Intresting and you have skits. It's realy clever with the skits for some funny distraction and I'm subscribing.
Why doesn't this guy have more subs
Well, at least Andy has another Boots to reboot of reboots for xmas this year. The 2019 version makes the previous reboot look amazing.
This review before the 2019 remake. Would be interested in seeing THAT boot to reboot.
The remake was, like so many movies, hampered by executive meddling, which screwed up the final product something fierce.
I love the set dressing of the remake. Very screen direction too.
Do the when the stranger calls remake
I'm waiting on that one, plus Prom Night, Last House on the Left, The Stepfather, and The Fog:)
I'm waiting for quarantine.
@@jemofthe80s18 all those would make great episodes
@@LucyLioness100 They WOULD, wouldn't they?! He did The Fog a few months back, and it was good:) I know Last House on the Left and its remake but I LOVE the original Prom Night and The Stepfather:):)
@@oscardepaz1196 ah yes quarantine, a remake that came out a year after the Spanish film REC
This may be an early video, but you still nailed it beautifully.
Andy should review the 2nd remake of Black Christmas, makes 06 version look like Metropolis!
Uh yup.
Rewatching the whole boots series for no reason and Andy totally predicted the game maneater
is it a coincidence that he showed a shot of the guy from 2001,who's in the original black Christmas
Knowing Andy, it probaly isn't.
The character he shows in 2001 is Keir Dullea, who played Peter in the original!
andy, good andy, and... even evil andy.... we miss you.
I can't wait for the BTR for the 2019 remake.
@vonVile that’s definitely getting the boot
And here they are remaking this movie again. The trailer looked so different then the original that you could call it something completely different. Which is what they fucking should do.
Sharks have 5 dads. This does make Bruce/Jaws feel sympathetic besides being a hungry animal.
how do people keep forgetting that Peeping Tom and Psycho were the first slashers back in 1960?
*Psycho* had a stabbing in it, but that's as close as it ever comes to being a slasher. What makes a slasher movie isn't just the fact that a knife is used to kill somebody at some point--it's the plot structure, crucially the part about multiple (3+) characters getting killed off at regular intervals throughout the movie.
Actually, Psycho was a thriller more than a slasher
@@leohcarrillo2981 yeah it’s more of a thriller, but that’s more of the “Silence of the Lambs” debate than “Psycho”. The OG “Psycho” helped create the template for slashers to come, but without the barrage of on-screen violence that came with the ‘80s
Man andy's philosophy is still going strong and still applies 5 years later
I saw both films myself, but unfortunately for me, I saw the remake first. It was a cluttered up, diced up, mesh of garbage with no suspense whatsoever. I agree, the remake...if you can even call it that...gets the Boot.
So Andy...… I'm gonna have to ask what you think of the latest reboot of this one. Hope to hear your thoughts on it sometime. Love the reviews dude, please keep it up.
You thought this remake wasn't that good? Oh boy are you in for a surprise!
The attractive blonde is ruby from season 3 of Supernatural
Some people theorize that the icicle scene in the remake is a nod to what Ralphie claimed to have happened to him after he shot his BB gun, the icicle hitting him in the face.

Black Christmas Flopped it's way back to 2019
Update: he reviewed the 2019 Black Christmas reboot again
Let's forget that movie is a thing
Your reviews are great and hilarious. Keep up the stellar job I really cant wait for your next review!
The problem with this error of horror is it's basically centered around gore and "shocking" ideas that just come off as disgusting. There's no real thought put into the characters or building suspense it's just how grossed out can we make you feel?
Love your videos, nice toaster gag also by the way.
I always thought the older version of Agnes looked like Iggy Pop. lol
It’s distracting in comparison to the OG “Pet Semetary” where them casting a man for a female kinda works. Plus the cinematography gives away its a dude pretending to be a woman immediately in the film
And we thought this remake was bad then 2019 came
It made me appreciate this 1st reboot train wreck. If Andy reviews that one, he needs to set it on fire at the end. It's so bad.
One of the worst remakes ever. Glad to see this one get the boot!
HORROR ADDICTS Go watch Cabin Fever remake. I agure it's the worst movie I've ever seen in my life
Cutie evee 2 ur joking right
It might have a bad story and bad suspense but you can't deny that the gore is awesome
@@eurrrp5204 The FX are well made but none of it is entertaining. The gore itself gets pretty boring because every death is on the same brutality level and all the characters deserve it.
@cutie evee 2 I agree
+StitchedTogetherpics
Would you do a House on Haunted Hill comparison? Thanks and keep up the good work.
Ooh, the second half of the '90s was a _golden age_ for inept, abominable horror remakes!
It will get the boot
I saw it. I thought it was actually pretty good. Especially Geoffrey Rush.
I also have a soft spot for the House of Wax remake.
I loved the sin city joke
There's going to be ANOTHER remake of this movie soon, with a PG-13 rating at that. Time for you to break out that Boots To Reboots Of Reboots show idea.
you mean the one that came out last year?
If you think the remake is bad try seeing the remake of the remake of Black Christmas.
most under rated horror/movie review channel in youtube history
I forgot about this. Dean Friss is actually a local Vancouver focus puller. It was an in joke.
Well... now you have to review black Christmas 2019...
Well that would be too easy since it’s not even related the original film or the first remake
@@LucyLioness100 exactly
Saw the remake on one of my first dates at a real grindhouse theatre so unfortunately I have a soft spot for it
I like how whenever any reviewer talks about a Hollywood Production line made movie it’s always a Adam Sandler “film “ and rightfully so, especially Jack and Jill, the biggest atrocity ever filmed.
My toaster makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside from toast it provides.
MEW is always a pleasure to see onscreen, though.
Dean Friss is a local Vancouver focus puller. It was a gag to use him, as he has had long blonde locks for 30 years. This is much the same gang who worked on Willard years before. Believe me, there was onset eye rolling.
I actually felt sorry for billy 😢
I wonder if he'll talk about the newest Black Christmas that came out in 2019. Its arguably even worse than this remake.
Love the Original I watch it every Christmas eve along with Krampus, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon and Anna & the Apocalypse
Some how JACK & JILL always manages to make it on these videos in some way.
I heard that the 2019 remake sucked too It's time to get the boot out!
It's still better than Black X-mas
@@ccateni28 hell no
@@iloveseeingtheworldburn4035 it's films with two different problems in my opinion.
The 2019 film is better in production and not being choppy, but Xmas is more like a horror film and not about politics.
@@ccateni28 the 2019 vers. is SJW pandering bullshit
@@iloveseeingtheworldburn4035 tell me about it... But somehow it's not as edited bad as Xmas...
The first slasher movie is the Texas chainsaw massacre.
The Man Among Men What 'bout Psycho? Or Peeping Tom?
14:54 holy shit that bit fucking killed me lol
Your voice sounds like Lorne from the show "Angel" I love it lol
check good bad flicks did a review of this, Bob Clark liked the remake executive produced it and wanted to do the back story ideas, he didn't have the chance to then, it's not a terrible remake for me, just like I like like Johnny depps willy wanka over gene wilder, gene's performance has always terrified me, go figure
I didn’t check out the video, but Bob Clark isn’t going to publicly trash the film if he’s the executive producer and his money is on the line. “Watch this movie I produced, it’s crap” isn’t good marketing. Most people probably don’t know this, but the majority of the time the original directors are given a producer credit and a paycheck even though they did nothing to help make the movie. The studio does this so they say nice things about the movie to give it some credibility. The viewer can like whatever movie they want, but the producer saying he likes it should be taken with a grain of salt.
Watched Chris stuckmans recent video defending this movie and was thinking about giving it a go. Very happy youtube recommended this video as it clearly defines why it's a waste of time and missing it was the right decision
i miss this channel
It's funny that you mentioned Willard on here 8 years ago, and it was from that Willard video where I found you, subscribed and now I'm watching everything you've ever made!
What happened? Morgan finally had a big hit after years in Hollywood with "Final Destination", and decided to give up trying to tell good stories in favor of profitable ones...even if they were stupid af
And he’s not directed since this film; think he’s doing writing and maybe TV directing but no more feature films
He said he’d quit directing if this movie flopped
Do a booth to reboot of the new black Christmas that came out in 2019
No plans on doing the 2019 black Christmas? I'm sure we all know it's terrible but from your point of view and added opinion would be fantastic
You can almost tell that this movie is directed by the same director as "A Christmas Story". He blocks his shots very similarly in this movie.
Also man you are so close to 1000 subs keep it up.
Darek Baird I know. It really blew up this month. :)
You need to compare the original to 2019’s remake I’d love to see it
Please do the 2019 version!
Hello, just found your channel great review!
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it.
I cannot WAIT for you to boot the reboot OF THE REBOOT

Yep, do a boot to reboot of the reboot next 👍

Me eating an entire bag of Gushers in one bite
Black Christmas 1974 and Black Christmas 2006 are similar yet so different at the same time
I wonder how the 2019 version will turn out compared to what came before
Worst that the 2006 version. 👌
The 2019 version was absolutely awful
So does this mean you’ll have to do a boots to Re-Reboots for this one? XD
Yeah. It's getting out of control.
@@StitchedTogetherPictures Agreed. I wish some of these directors/producers/script writers would just create their own new feature. They are consistently remaking old classics in a short sighted attempt to cash in on the established love for them, and they end up ruining all the good faith people had for the titles. It's such a shame that none of these people have enough talent to create something original.
@@StitchedTogetherPictures Are you going to review the 2019 version?
Think i saw they are remaking this again, so you will have to put boots to reboots of re boots lol
Yeah the plot looks totally different. Something about a cult this time rather than Billy. And it's gonna be PG-13. Yeah, I don't know about that one.
I guess this is the earliest of your ep's I've seen. I was like... That's not the boot... THAT'S The Boot!!! lol
Willard reference! I like that movie too
One of the worst remakes I have EVER seen. So glad that this piece of trash got the boot.
This review makes me wonder why the hell Hollywood doesn't hire you or any other critics I've seen to make movies when they have no idea what they're doing?
At least it isn't the 2019 remake.
The original is so creepy i love it
