    Thank you so much for watching! We hope you enjoyed our latest video. To be honest, filming this one wasn’t so easy since we’ve been away from UA-cam for a while, and we may be a little rusty. 😅
    If you’d like to support us and get access to these recordings, we’ll be uploading them to our All In One Bundle soon. However, if you can’t wait, you can grab them right now from our Ko-Fi account: ftus.gumroad.com/l/allinonebundle or ko-fi.com/freetousesounds/shop.
    Thanks again for being here!

      @@benjaminlachenal2822 Thank you so much for watching. Hmm, the recording in these videos are original and only normalized because I can’t set gain on the spot. What exactly were you trying to record, and how did you edit the files afterward? Did you end up normalizing the levels quite a bit? Sometimes, boosting the levels too much in post can bring up unwanted noise, so I’d be curious to hear more about your process and what adjustments you made!

    Great to see you back here - as always great audio and videography! I am thrilled about the H3VR :). Just one feedback: Please do not crop left and right from the soundscape parts. The "old" effect just narrowing top and bottom was perfect and kinda signature of you. Cropping both just feels boxed and tiny instead of wide and makes me zoom in on my smartphone all the time.

    • @FreeToUseSounds
      @FreeToUseSounds  День тому

      Hi! We just ordered a stereo bar that should arrive soon, so I’ll start recording with both mics at the same height and placement. I think the results will depend on how we handle gain levels and post-production. From what I read in the field recording community on Reddit, the noise floors for both are supposed to be pretty similar, but we’ll have to see. Should be interesting to compare!

    Hello. Can you please describe to me what a susspention kit is as I am totally blind and can't see the screne. I love your work.

    • @FreeToUseSounds
      @FreeToUseSounds  2 години тому

      Hi there! Absolutely! A suspension kit acts as a buffer between your hand and the recorder, which helps minimize handling noise. When you hold a handy recorder directly and walk while recording, it can pick up rumble and unwanted noises from the movement. With a suspension kit, you can easily avoid this.
      We use one from Rycote, which is quite pricey, and some models aren’t even available anymore. But I found a budget-friendly alternative from Movo that offers options for the H1n, H1e, and other smaller field recorders. If you’re aiming for cleaner audio, I highly recommend getting one.
      Also, I’ve been in touch with Radius Windshields, and hopefully, they’ll develop their own version soon. Let me know if that helps, or feel free to message me here on UA-cam if you have more questions!

    Thank you, Marcel, for your amazing videos. Is the Zoom H1e better than the Zoom H1n? Is the 32-bit floating point worth switching from my Zoom H1n to the Zoom H1e? Thanks in advance for your reply.

    • @FreeToUseSounds
      @FreeToUseSounds  День тому +1

      Hi! This is a tough one because I wanted to wait until I have my A-B stereo bar to start comparing. Not having gain control on the H1e is something I need to get used to.
      Recording in default mode on the spot means more work for me in post, but I enjoy the editing process much more now than I did two years ago. The sound quality may not be drastically different, but with the cannon example, I would have to set the gain low with the H1n and maybe use a limiter.
      Since there was also a bell ringing, if I recorded it in 24-bit and later cut the file to create separate parts, I’d likely introduce noise when raising the level. With the 32-bit, I split the recording into three parts-1. Bell Ring Before, 2. Cannon Fire, and 3. Bell Ring After-without having to stop the recording and adjust the levels each time.
      So, with 32-bit, I ended up with three separate files, all properly normalized.

    Hello. So cool to see you back ;] I missed your videos, even though I have your sound library to enjoy, the new recordings are just amazing!
    Still been waiting to see an update since new H1 came out. I am still enjoying your previously suggested H1n ( also needs all of those small tools ), but I wanted to ask if you think the H1e is a significant upgrade to H1n?
    Thank you

    • @FreeToUseSounds
      @FreeToUseSounds  14 годин тому +1

      Hi! Thank you so much for checking in! As for sound quality, I don’t think there will be a significant difference, but I’d like to wait until I have all the gear to make a fair comparison. We ordered an A-B stereo bar, so we’ll be able to set both recorders side by side for testing. I do think 32-bit on this small recorder is great for sound processing and having more editing flexibility.
      As I mentioned in another comment about recording the cannon, in the video, you only see the cannon firing. But in this continuous moment, I also recorded the bells before and after. I edited the three parts as separate tracks by normalizing them individually. The person handling the cannon left only a few seconds between the sounds, so there wasn’t time to stop, adjust gain, and restart.
      With 24-bit, I’d risk clipping the cannon or having the bell too low. Raising the gain on a 24-bit recording might add more noise, whereas 32-bit gives me just more headroom.
      We’re currently in Xiamen, but we’ll be back in Hong Kong in about a week. I’ll upload these recordings and more with a new update so you can download and check them out. For now, the internet connection isn’t strong enough to handle all these GBs of files. You get the Gumroad newsletter right?

      Hi! Thanks for pointing that out-it’s a fair critique. Handling noise can definitely be an issue with handy recorders, especially when used without stabilization. That’s actually one of the reasons I moved away from handheld recording as even the best handy recorders can pick up handling noise.
      In our video, we showcased gear designed to avoid these issues. If handling noise is affecting your recordings, you could consider investing in equipment that minimizes it.

The shoreline you mentioned actually does have industrial sounds nearby-there was a factory just to the left. The ambient rumble might simply reflect the unique vibe of Hong Kong’s urban and coastal environment.
