+down to earth I agree with you. It's good to understand the meaning of the words, but when it is sung in Japanese, you can feel the sense of separation and longing. One of my favorites. Also, I love KAERO KANA by Kitajima Saburo san. Years ago, I lived in Japan (69-74), and listening to this music brings back many sweet memories.
+Susan Norris (Hesapawin) Konichi wa Susan san. I love Japanese music, not the J pop stuff but more like the folk/Enka music. Yes the feeling of seperation from a connection. The japanese is like my own language in fact my Maori language and customs has that long separation as you put it, and connection to asia especially the Japanese culture. I think it is important to understand the similarities and differences in all cultures as we are all part of Mother Earth's family. Could you recommend books, movies, etc. that will reveal more of your culture to me? I would appreciate it. I lived for many years in the Black Hills of So. Dakota. It is a beautiful place. HESAPAWIN is Lakota Sioux. HE SAPA=Black Hills, WIN=woman, In the Lakota language they always close a prayer or talk with the words MITAKUYE OYASIN which means All my relations (we are all related), so I am pleased to hear from a Maori relative. As you said we are all of Mother Earth (papatuanuku). It's when we don't understand that then we are very different. Modern cultures like Japan for example still hold fast to this understanding that we call tangata-whenua (people of the land) or people that live with the land, like the native american people.
