Thank you for this. I recently moved 8 miles outside the Tuscan city of Lucca-after being in the historic centre for more than two decades, here I am on top of a hill in a lovely village where the stars shout at night and birdsong fills the days. I put on eyebrows every morning and wear a lovely lipstick, put on my fancy coats and pretty woolies when I walk the dogs twice a day because I too, miss dressing up! That is the compromise I have made that gives me happiness. I wear pretty cashmere wool inside when cooking or potting, and when I garden, I have wonderful yellow boots that make me feel like I am bringing style to my outside duties! This move was essential to my wellbeing and it has proven to be the right thing. At the same time, there is a girl in me who needs her leather gloves and pretty silk scarves! Take care and best to you.
Years ago, I worked in London where I was always well groomed, well dressed, mingled with classy types. But now, I am a real country bumpkin, I only make an effort when I go out and take trips to bigger towns and cities, or go to friends for parties. I enjoy the contrast.
I think that adversity…going through difficult things can often open a door so that we find something new about ourselves…an inner strength, becoming more creative thank you for sharing this you grandma would be proud of you 😊
Such a lovely story, thank you for sharing your loves and challenges and how you have grown, Marloes. It just goes to show that nobody's life is perfect, alrhough you are pretty darn close at this stage of having it , thanks to you and your hubbie's many years of hard work! 😊Enjoy every moment! 🎉❤
Wonderful video. You made me think about my own life. Without going into too many details, I found myself and my son on our own when I was 33. So, I found that I had to be the “man around the house” as well as being a mom. I was always healthy and strong to do heavy outdoor work, fixing plumbing, working on my car, plus, cooking, cleaning and nurturing. 30+ years later, I find I have to pace myself, as well… can’t dig big holes to plant trees from morning till dusk anymore.😂 So, I understand the frustration you felt after your accident. But, I learned to ask for help now and again which is big for me who has been so ultra independent for so many years. And, by the way, love your sponsor, Vivia. They’re pretty comfy and cute, also made from recycled materials and are vegan. Pluses all around. Thank you for your video today. Have a fantastic day! ❤❤
Thank you for sharing Marloes! So much of what you said resonates with me. About your point of missing dressing up, I feel the same so I make it a point to create a balance by once in a while visiting a bigger city, dressing up and enjoying the theatre or a night out. I think you and Olaf have done a remarkable job with your home, and great achievement overall with your adventure! Bravo!
Love your videos. Watch them all with antcipation with my wife. If we were in Croatia, as we planned to be several years ago, wife would be doing the gardening, cooking, shopping, and i would probably be fixing the house. Instead, we now live in the city, Montreal to be precise, and the only time we see the countryside is if we drive out. I miss living in the coutryside.
Yeah... for past two summers we did DIY renovation of our rooms and it was already hard work and we are in the city. You've done a lot and I bet you've also learned a lot. I wish I could be more handy like your husband... then it feels invincible!
Exactly the same thoughts since we Iive in Normandy, I left the south of Paris in 2013. Goodbye beautiful shoes, escarpins et ballerines et bonjour boots and crocks and jeans and cardigans !!! But I don’t regret at all, I love to live in the countryside soooo much, I feel I’m in the right place now , I’m me 😊
Loved viewing this video. Thanks for sharing your wonderful experiences & achievements, thro moving to France. It's gives me joy & happiness you have a beautiful balanced lifestyle although always busy. Enjoy the moments. Deb'S nz
I prefer and love the simple lifestyle - plain and natural - denims etc. One can dress up and wear smart things for very special occasions once in a while. By the way, you always look sexy and feminine in your plain everyday clothes.
Tell me what you did with all of your “professional” clothes. I have also wound down from an executive finance roll, I tried selling my clothes online, but I am over it. I cannot find a charity shop near me that sells professional clothing, I am not sure what to do with it all now:( How do I let go?
@ Thank you, I jsut have to get right with donating high end clothing - I think i will look for a charity shop rather than a thrift store. Your slower lifestyle looks amazing!
I know that in the Netherlands now there are a few places that help job seekers that can’t afford an outfit for their interview to look smart and they use donated clothes and shoes. Maybe Google if there is something like that in your area?

Have you tried online service, liked Sellpy or Vinted?
I donated to friends and to charity both in France and in the Netherlands

@@AnnieTaylorChen I did, I listed on three different sites and it has been 2 years now, I have probably sold 50% of it, I am tired of online selling:)
