I am Chinese Canadian, grew up in Hong Kong, never been to Ireland. Music like this beautifully written and touching song transcends cultural boundary. The angelic voice of Eva Cassidy touches the heart and soul. Thank you for sharing.
My sister in law is from Hong Kong and lives in Ireland today, She misses the old days before '96. She's a sponge for the local traditional music scene in South Dublin. There's even a few really good Yum Cha restaurants for a Sunday Lunch.
No one else compares. I played lead guitar behind dozens of incredible singers, but none of them had 10% of Eva's gift. Not only did she have a gorgeous voice, she had textures and colors that we've never heard from anyone else, ever. On top of that, she was an absolute genius at arranging music around her unique ability to vary the emotional intensity like no one we've ever heard. The dynamics on display are simply unparalleled in all of human history. Eva Cassidy is the greatest, most complete singer who ever lived.

@@letsgoraiding I’m not going to argue it’s an English tune but it’s a blended song with lyrics by an English writer. And the Irish seem to have claimed it for their own. I have heard it sung at many an Irish pub and funeral, not so much in England.

+Katie Joy Welcome, Katie, many of us come back to this site because Eva deserves to be introduced to other generations. I hope you feel the need to do the same.
my daughter was visiting the uk many years ago when she was introduced to eva's music by the locals. at that time eva cassidy was unknown in ameria, so she bought a disc for me. i gave it away as everytime hearing eva cassidy's voice, i cry. such a profound beautiful effect.
This is one of the songs my Irish Dad used to sing. I can listen to anyone sing this song and be okay, except Eva. I cry all the way through when she sings it. Both, so beautiful. Eva and the song.
They're numb nuts, that's why. Eva's voice is brilliance - God given. She's left a legacy and all we can say is "Thank You" to her and not be perturbed by jealous trolls, for surely she was an Angel x
I have just discovered Eva Cassidy ! The delicate purity and vocal clarity took my breath away. We are so fortunate to have these recordings of this amazing talent.
+Juniper Films Many of us who were introduced to her music after her death feel compelled to introduce other generations. And hope they love her voice enough to pass her music on ......... as thousands of us have.
So glad you found her. She is without a doubt the BEST female vocalist I've ever heard. Everything she does is just the best and what a variety of genre's to boot. So glad she left us her beautiful music.
This is my grandma's musical jewelry box...she died 44 years ago and by God , do I miss her...the sweetest lady who died to young ...the same age as I am now, 64, no age at all....love you grandma. Jacqueline xxxx
This is an absolutely beautiful combination of a heart felt rendition of an equally heart felt song to a loved one. The hope, of the eternal love of God in Christ Jesus.
What a beautiful beautiful voice Eva had. What a shame lots of us only knew her after she passed away. She would have packed out stadiums and well,,,,, we will never know.
This was one of my recently-deceased Mum's favourite songs. She was buried one week ago today, and this day would have been her birthday.....so all of my children and I stood in silence at her grave today as we played this version of "Danny Boy". We cried, but mostly happy tears as we all knew that she would be smiling down, so happy to have heard Eva's rendition. Thank you, Eva. Someday when I too am old and ready to farewell this world, I would sleep in peace hearing you sing this beautiful piece.
I have never heard that song sung like this and I am pressed for words to express my feelings and emotions at this time Outstanding is the least I can say.
Truly the voice of an angel. She never was famous in her lifetime. She played and made music in Washington D.C. at the jazz clubs. Sadly she succumbed to cancer, and the clubs held a charity so she could pay her bills. Like Van Gogh, there is something in the fact she died without the knowledge of her coming fame.
My father was born and grew up in Limavady. He loved this song. I do too. So does my daughter. Eva sings this song with the emotion it deserves. Exquisite.
@@Will-he-wont-he ...thanks for the heads-up, Mr Vaughn, and you may be correct about the libretto, however, the music for 'Danny Boy' was composed and heard broadly in Ireland at least several centuries before the "words" were later adapted to the song, which, in my view as well as current copyright laws, makes it an Irish song..! i was also told that 'amazing grace' was written by a 'slaver',ship Captain, john newton, from England whose mother's maiden namename was 'Donne', but, in any case, he was not a musician or composer, per se, and, wrote verse and hymns (i.e. prayers), after his religious conversion off the Donegal Coast just prior to his later efforts becoming an Anglican clergyman... His curate was in Olney, (funny coincidence here, as Eva Cassidy was from Olney, Maryland in the U.S. A...) Ostensibly, Newton wrote this verse originally, in 1732, and it was published initially, in a hymn-book he and his close associate, William Cowpers, collaborated on in 1779..? The verse was nearly forgotten in England subsequently until much later in the 1830's, we do not know if it was ever set to music by Newton or Cowpers, and it was adapted by multiple persons in America and separately combined with music from 4 other older songs, namely: "Arlington", "St Mary's", "Gallaher", 'Symphony", 'Harmony Gone' and "Solon", and most wildly and popularly by American composer William Walker in 1847 in his songbook "Southern Harmonies", with music that was later combined with these lyrics from the song "New Britain" where he coined the lasting title of "Amazing Grace".... can't find where the music for "new britain" originated..? Whatever, "Danny Boy' is most assuredly an Irish song that existed for centuries before Mr Weatherly's good-self penned the libretto, and, 'Amazing Grace', if it wasn't, could well otherwise have been..?
@@robhennessy6164 Libretto ...this is hardly an opera .... Yes, the music was an Old Irish tune passed on by memory alone .. the actual 'song' which requires the title and the words to sing were written by Mr Weatherly who is most assuredly an Englishman .. I don't understand your point about John Newton, ...but did write the music and the words for 'Amazing Grace' and he too most assuredly .. was English.
A grand example that fame and fortune has absolutely nothing to do with pure golden talent. In fact, it tarnishes it. Algorithms have brought me Eva Cassidy. Her gift as an artist, a real true artist, makes me weep. You can hear it in her voice. So genuine.

From glen to glen and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go, and I must bide
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so
But when ye come, and all the roses falling
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
Go out and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me
And I will hear, tho' soft your tread above me
And then my grave will warm and sweeter be
For you shall bend and tell me that you love me
And I will sleep in peace until you come to me

A friend of mine just introduced me to this most beautiful voice. I'm hooked now and forever.
How could you not be hooked forever!!! Her music is going to be timeless.
This is one of the songs my Irish Dad used to sing. I can listen to anyone sing this song and be okay, except Eva. I cry all the way through when she sings it. Both, so beautiful. Eva and the song.
I am breathless and near in tears - what makes a person do thumbs-down for this? Beyond my comprehension...
Makes me an emotional Danny....
They have my pity, they have no ears or soul Dan xxx
Susie O'Mahoney Well said .....Peace!! X
+Dan Pearce WELL said , I Agree . ☺ Wonderful voice . Nice Time I wish You. ✌💛
They're numb nuts, that's why. Eva's voice is brilliance - God given. She's left a legacy and all we can say is "Thank You" to her and not be perturbed by jealous trolls, for surely she was an Angel x
Thank you. I am so fucking Irish it hurts......love you Eva.....
One of the few singers that genuinely brings me to tears hearing that wonderfully emotional voice. Truly breathtaking.
I have just discovered Eva Cassidy ! The delicate purity and vocal clarity took my breath away. We are so fortunate to have these recordings of this amazing talent.
Indeed we are.
So wonderfully put.
you should check out her art work....most all have orbs incorporated in her drawings and paintings.
Best version ever! 👍 No one even comes close ❤️ Just beautiful ❤️💙🧡💛💚💜🤎
This is my grandma's musical jewelry box...she died 44 years ago and by God , do I miss her...the sweetest lady who died to young ...the same age as I am now, 64, no age at all....love you grandma. Jacqueline xxxx
Most beautiful Danny Boy ever from this angel
The world lost a real songbird when it lost eva cassidy.
One of God’s angels singing for all.
best voice ever
This is an absolutely beautiful combination of a heart felt rendition of an equally heart felt song to a loved one. The hope, of the eternal love of God in Christ Jesus.
What a beautiful beautiful voice Eva had. What a shame lots of us only knew her after she passed away. She would have packed out stadiums and well,,,,, we will never know.
I just listened to Eva Cassidy for the first time RIP to this beautiful singer
ELton John My song
This was one of my recently-deceased Mum's favourite songs. She was buried one week ago today, and this day would have been her birthday.....so all of my children and I stood in silence at her grave today as we played this version of "Danny Boy". We cried, but mostly happy tears as we all knew that she would be smiling down, so happy to have heard Eva's rendition. Thank you, Eva. Someday when I too am old and ready to farewell this world, I would sleep in peace hearing you sing this beautiful piece.
RIP on the same page but with my grandma, last song she listened to and was played at the crem.
it was my Mothers also , now I sing it whenever I can ....
The beauty of her soul will never be forgotten 🙏🏼
Wow, such a special song
I've always loved this song. But I especially love hearing Eva Cassidy singing it❤
I have never heard that song sung like this and I am pressed for words to express my feelings and emotions at this time Outstanding is the least I can say.
God bless you Eva, gone fair too soon. Such a beautiful talent, may you rest in peace sweetheart xx
What a song, what a voice!
Such a beautiful voice and a beautiful version of this lovely song, may your rest in peace Eva. Taken too young.
Eva you are missed. You had the voice of an angel. Happy St. Paddys day all
First I’ve listened to this as this what my mum chose for her funeral , she died 14th January 2019
My father was born and grew up in Limavady. He loved this song. I do too. So does my daughter. Eva sings this song with the emotion it deserves. Exquisite.
Truly Angelic voice, Eva
Thank you for the Gift

Danny Boy and Amazing Grace are 2 of the greatest English songs ever made! 🏴
yeah, and they were both written by Irishmen, just sayin'..!
@@robhennessy6164 Written by Irishmen 😂 They we’re written by Englishmen, Look it up you tool!
@@robhennessy6164 'Danny Boy' was written by Frederic Weatherly of Bath England, 'Amazing Grace' by John Newton also of England.
I've never been particularly fond of this song but this version is just beautiful.
I have cried rivers of tears listening to Eva sing this song. Immortal as her spirit.
Voice of an angel
My Irish father died last week. This will be played at his funeral .♥️
The lovely haunting sound of Eva 😢you are sadly missed 🇬🇧
Thought i had died and gone to heaven, its such a great loss, the most beautiful voice i have ever heard..
I love this
A grand example that fame and fortune has absolutely nothing to do with pure golden talent. In fact, it tarnishes it. Algorithms have brought me Eva Cassidy. Her gift as an artist, a real true artist, makes me weep. You can hear it in her voice. So genuine.
Priceless.
Most beautiful voice this side of heaven. By far, the sweetest voice I have ever heard. I mourn her passing...
The best version I have heard brilliant ❤❤❤Bob she was an angle
