Omg. I’ve seen a LOT of ugly furniture “upgrades” by “civilians” but this is definitely the ugliest. This now gorgeous again piece deserved you coming back into its life. Fabulous job!
"I've always wanted a glasstop vanity with faux brick sides and fire engine red drawers!" said nobody, ever. Lovely restoration of a furniture abomination.
You gave this piece its dignity back. I imagine that Travis, wherever he may be, is grateful to you. Gorgeous! just enough brass accents to set this beautiful desk off.
Walnut, walnut, walnut. I am sooo tired of it. I like these restorers, but honestly, have a little imagination!! Does anyone ever. Like any OTHER kind of wood or wood veneer??!! 😖
@@Flippingdrawers Well said! (maybe they should cut dairy from their diet?) 😉🤣 Anywho, I love what you did and blends very well with the rest of that room. This piece is stunning!
If I had to pick a project that encapsulated how much you've grown as a furniture artist...this would be it! I love everything about this desk! Wonderful work my friend!
I've read through a lot of the Comments and everything I wanted to say has been said already Jay. So, Congratulations on yet another Masterful Makeover, and I hope you do well in the challenge. A win would be so well deserved.
As a mid century lover, I have to admit that you did a fabulous job on this piece, but I also loved the original dresser too. The floating glass shelf was killer imo. None the less I do like the desk and I know you did this for your own personal piece and that's what matters..
The brass rod supports were genius, and look like they’ve always been there. A desk is a much more useful piece of furniture than a vanity. When you first put the top on, I was thinking it didn’t look very mid century, and said to myself, “those edges need to be beveled”…and seconds later that’s what you said! I didn’t think of edging in black, but you’re right - it makes it look thinner, and echos the black at the base. Great piece!
I binged all 13. I’m torn between your project and Restorogy’s, both are exceptionally well done. Thanks for spearheading this, what a great way to spend my last day of being 59!
The brass rods are perfect. Yes, the black edging was the right choice. Since I grew up with MCM, I don't care for it. But you truly shocked me with the amazing upgrade on it. Glad Hugo was there as your cheerleader to lift your spirits in the tough spots. Now off to see the rest of the lineup.
That is one unique desk. Perfect for you, Jay. So many techniques were used on the desk. I realized at the end that there was space for objects under the desktop, on top of the drawer boxes. So much stylish storage space and worktop space.
I remember the 60's and 70's very well. Most of it is best not remembered - a lot of avocado green and shag orange carpets that made me ill, even back then. But this is what the best designers were aiming for; a futuristic look with clean lines and functionality. This would look at home in a bay on the S.S. Enterprise! Very well done!
Ont dit que les goût ne sont pas à discuter mais franchement ce meuble était vraiment laid felicitation mr vous avez fait un travail exceptionnel ❤👍👍👍👍🥰
You would never realize this was ever that design abomination someone "transformed" a fairly nice vanity into - very well and nicely done, with a modern interpretation of MCM. I think the elevated desk top is genius as it definitely gives an intentionally airy look to this piece. The brass posts were a nice touch too!
Ah, Jay, your creative bent always shines through! None of us could have guessed what the final reveal would be. The color is spot on for MCM, and the floating table top gives tons of eye candy appeal. You're a lucky guy to have this for your new desk. Many thanks to you and to Hugo, your General Manager. Cheers from Oklahoma!!!
Wow, dude, that’s amazing! I thought it would’ve been laminated cardboard underneath that sticky contact paper, but every detail you restored and replaced make that desk a gorgeous piece of furniture art. Bravo 👏🏼
I love your very meticoulous way of working. Never taking the short cut, never brushing over imperfections, but working away until it is as perfect as it can get. I love what you did with the floating top and the black rim, suits a computerdesk very well. And I really love your quiet way of working and talking in the voice over. You are my favorite furniture restauring channel. I have watched you working away on the curbside and now look at your setuo!
The work you do goes beyond restoration, and how to bring to life something that has been forgotten in time. Congratulations on the beautiful work and keep it up. A hug straight from Brazil
Your new desk is beautiful. You’re a very skilled & talented artist/craftsman and I enjoy watching you rescue furniture from the trash and reimagining it’s use. Thank you for your channel 😊
I’m telling you this is the most stunning transformation I’ve seen! You brought this MC vanity back from the dead & turned it into a Beautiful Desk! My Husband who is sadly no longer with us, was a master craftsman woodworker he is applauding you too! Your workshop is the most organized I’ve seen amongst all the YT contributors & I love it! Great job & thank you for not painting this beautiful wood I love the brass tub😂es you used to enhance the floating look & the tasteful black edge to the desk top making it look thinner.. Blessings from Dozer Butter Bean & me in Texas, USA
So beautiful!!! Beveling the edges and painting it black is brilliant. So is moving the support to the rear - it really does look like the top is floating. I love the lines of this desk/vanity. The final product is a thing of elegant, beautiful simplicity. You are a very skilled artisan.
So astonishing! I may never toss out another piece of worn out stuff again! Thank you for all the time, effort and energy it takes to share your craft. Your channel is one of my very favorites. I felt the loss of your feline visitors when they moved, but Hugo is still there! Catty inspectors are always welcomed in my home!
Jay, if this desk doesn't win this competition, I'll eat my hat!!! (Don't worry, I don't even own a hat.) This is probably the best makeover I've ever seen. Kudos to you, and your brilliance! I absolutely LOVE this desk....and I know you will enjoy it for a very long time.
First of all, Thank You Jay for the idea of conducting this challenge on UA-cam. Thoroughly enjoyed all the content. Each one of you were unique and special in your own ways. As I have said before your restoration procedures are flawless. There is not a single thing which I can point out that has gone wrong. I really appreciate how you have grown your craft, the studio, machines and tools in short period of time. Everything requires a lot of effort and passion. This was such a brilliant restoration, absolutely loved the idea of floating desk, different and unique. What a watch it was!! ❤
@coloredcaboosecreations NAILED IT!! I wish I could vote for her, like other build-off challenges on UA-cam. Thank you for setting this up! I was fortunate enough to add 4-5 new subscriptions to VERY talented people!!
You are a genius and I am so mesmerized just watching you work your magic. I can’t count the times you cracked me up with your antics. Keep up the great work.
Jay this is flipping gorgeous 🥰! I love everything about it from the sapeli veneer to the hidden, supports to that little hint of brass at the end. You have a great eye for Design!
One of the pleasures of watching you work is the neatness of your shop--it can't be easy to keep it looking tidy. I'm not usually a MCM fan, but I love everything about this project and you've done your usual excellent job. The design of the desk top edge is perfect and the brass legs and fittings look fantastic. (Great camera work, too, btw.)
This is amazing! What a transformation! And I LOVE the thin brass rods you added along with the beautiful drawer pulls. You’re right, this desk wins best overall transformation and best final result!!!
this turned out so beautiful! I've been following you since the beginning and you have 100% improved on your skills and creativity. I'm so happy to be along for your journey!
Wonderful job Travis! I wanted grey carpet in the early 70’s. Everyone thought I was nuts. The ‘floating’ top is very much of the 60’s/70’s and emphasizes those clean futuristic looks. I will admit I am not quite sure how you could see the finished desk in that brick papered horror, but that must be your inner artist showing up. Great job, very interesting video and thanks so much for this channel.

You wonder what "improvements" they rejected before deciding that faux brick wallpaper was the best idea!
@rosehughes599 😂😂😂😂😂😂💩😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you 🤩
You didn’t see the upright piano my mom painted and wallpapered in the early ‘70s…
@@janvafa9959 share that gem please 😂😂😂

awwww so kind of you Emily 🤩 thanks 😻
I do not care what style it is, this came out beautifully! It was a real eyesore to begin with, but your TLC brought it new life!
This turned out SO well. The black beveled edge was a choice decision. My desk is an old kitchen table. I'm jealous now. 😂
Well, Ive seen comments saying that your dresser was one of the favourites in this challenge so there's that 🤩 and if it works 💁🏼♂️😂

Yes, this is beautiful but I really thought the floating glass was KEY & I’d assumed he’d keep that.
The brass rod supports were genius, and look like they’ve always been there. A desk is a much more useful piece of furniture than a vanity. 😊 Glad you liked it , Thank you
We had a stereo cabinet from the 70s made of MDF covered in veneer with black edging. This is so much cooler.
Now that is what i call COOL! The floating top with the front painted black is very effective. Excellent craftsmanship. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you kindly! 😊
Love the brass "supports" you added under the desk top
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL . Travis had his vision and you elevated it to it's perfection.
ha ha 💪🏼thank you

The shag carpeting was excellent when playing with little plastic horses, especially the green carpet. Prarie as far as the tiny toy horses could see😂
Thank you 🖖🏼😂
I remember all the green and orange and dark brown! My parent's bedroom was dark blue shag - thank goodness they didn't have shag all over the house!
