      Yeah even though looking at maps Germany looked far more dominate in ww2 but so many things had to right for them to even get to that point and still so many more things needed to go in their favour to win and even if that happened the chances that they collapse shortly after the war is extremely high and even if that didn’t happen there’s just no way for them to compete with the Americans honestly losing the war is probably the best outcome for Germany

    People forgot that China in the same war, lost all their most economically vital lands, was still fragmented with warlords, was 20 years behind in technology, only was given a minuscule amount of lend lease compared to the USSR ,and lost their capital 2 times(nanjing to wuhan until chongqing ) and still fought on for 8 years against the Japanese. The Soviet’s were going to fight on even if the A-A line was reached as China and the USSR faced the same type of war: a war of extermination.

    • @jodinha4225

      A lot of people understate the ideological drive that the Soviets felt. They weren't just fighting to the death for their homes. The Soviet populate was also *rabidly* anti-Fascism. They had *just* overthrown the Tsar 30 years ago, and fought a bloody Civil War against the psudeo-Fascist whites.
      Had the Soviets not been an atheist country, that shit would've been a holy war.

      Yeah but germany needed to only push them till the urals and at the beginning they were thinking to stop at the volga. Also germany and Japan had very different force compesitions. Germanies army was a Land war army and if they wouldn't have given away their advantage by focusing on moskov until it was too late, the soviets wouldn't have been able to leverage their numerical advantage

    • @deviousalemanni4235
      @deviousalemanni4235 2 дні тому +2

      But honestly the main issue was always to start a war of extermination. If they would have given the oppurtunity to switch sides they would have won .

    • @sthrich635
      @sthrich635 2 дні тому +5

      The main issue was still logistics and lack of fuel - many overlooked that in invasion of USSR there were multiple other Axis nation joining Germany, Finland, Romania, Hungary, Italy, all totaling more than hundreds of thousands troops - and yet they were less effective due to the lack of modern combat equipment - namely tanks and strong AT guns capable to defeating modern Soviet armors like T34 - this was one core reason that led to failure of 1942 Fall Blau as the Red Army were able to break through Axis flanks. Germany simply already struggling to supply its own troops, and couldn't supply enough capable weaponry to its Axis allies. Having hundreds of thousands more civilians joining the Axis would matter little when no weapons were available for them to fight with and just another heavy burden to collapsing German logistics had Germany went with plans to side with them.
      And Germany actually did recruited many of Russian or Slavs already, as Hiwi, Osttruppen, or other, and again the fact they could barely be supplied by Axis meant they had little military value and tends to desert in masses after 1942.
      Germany adopted a war of extermination was because the main goal to invade Russia was to take the food and oil, and other resources, and then labor manpower. They had no realistic plan, nor any reasonable capabilities, to act as "liberators" for many Soviet Union states such as Ukraine and somehow provided better than the USSR did. To keep it short Germany were there to steal the food, not only feeding the troops on frontline, but transported more back to Germany homefront, which inevitably starve the occupied population and such arrangement would be incompatible with any peaceful friendly relations with the occupied - hence Germans took the first shot and adopted brutal occupation before the resistance inevitably came up.

Once you have 20-30 you're good to go back to mils with a couple more refineries every now and then. You gain plenty of civs and mils from conquest. But it can't help you if have no rubber. But besides that air cover is overrated anyway. You can negate most CAS with support or line AA. You can still steamroll everyone with red air. One thing I feel is missing (especially in the “Germany focuses on U-boats earlier” what if) is that, this doesn’t take into account how the Allies would respond. If Germany makes a major shift in resources and starts producing a significant amount of submarines, the UK, especially after 1938, would know about it and shift their own production to anti-sub naval vessels.
    Heck, without the Bismark or Tirpitz being factors, it frees up some of the UKs fleets dedicated to hunting them down (Maybe HMS Hood survives in this timeline?)

    If Germany had cut off the BEF, it would have few hundred thousand British POW's as a bargaining chip.
    The destruction of the BEF would not change the strategic picture.
    But hundreds of thousands of young British men becoming prisoners for years?

    2:17 No. Wrong.
    Germany would face a huge economic crisis if it hadn't gone to war.
    It had financed its breakneck military buildup from 1935 onward with various unsustainable economic schemes. Massive borrowing, the MEFO-bills, spending all its foreign reserve, they were going for broke. Hjalmar Schacht, who was the minister from economics resigned in late 1937 because he opposed the enormity of the military spending, believing quite correctly that it would lead Germany to bankrupcy. Hitler and Goering also understood this, but were unlike Schacht in the knowledge that Germany would resolve these issues by going to war and plundering foreign territories.
    Adam Tooze did a great job of describing this in The Wages of Destruction.
    Maybe Germany would be able to hold on to Austria and Czechoslovakia, but after Munich France and Britain combined were putting at least as much resources into their own re-arming, and they had the resources to actually sustain the spending for many years. Without war the German economy faces a severe crisis in the 1940's, with the allied powers overmatching the Germans more and more each year. If they're bold they may try and pressure Germany into giving up its illegal acquisition of the Czechoslovak rump state.
    They probably wouldn't declare war themselves, but the rest of the 1940's would not be a great time for Germany.

    I feel like a Video about the Treaty of Leipzig would be increadible. This treaty, in german know as the Leipziger Teilung (division at Leipzig), was signed in 1485 by the two brothers Ernst and Albrecht of Wettin, permanently splitting the posessions of the House of Wettin between the two lineages which would come to be known as the Ernestiners and the Albertiners, thus diminishing the at that time rapidly growing power of the Kurfürstentum (electorate) of Sachsen to a point from which it would never recover fully, thus opening the way for the later rise of Prussia. The holdings of the two lineages would only drift further apart, as time moved on, with the Albertiners ending up forming the Kingdom of Saxony way later, whilst the Ernestiners would splibter more and more until beeing the many small principalitys which would eventually be tossed together into the modern federal state of thuringia. And mind you, this happened at a time, when Saxonian power was strongly on the rise, due to grand silver finds in the Erzgebirge, the mountain range in Saxonys south, leading to the house of Wettin to, before the Split be almost rivaling the Habsburgs in power and it beeing speculated, that if the split never happened, they might even possibly have gotten the Crown of the HRE not too long after. Thus I can see a very interesting althist Scenario, where the split never happens and theres a big Saxony, which would grow over Time and eventually unify Germany instead of our timelines Prussia. I could also possibly see Saxony inheriting the Bohemian Crown in the 1500 instead of the Habsburgs and maybe August of Saxony might also still become the King of Poland Lithuania, or similar things. In any way, I think this would make for a really interesting abd entertaining scenario, that has unfortunately never been done before.

    One possibility that I think could have happened that would lead to an Axis victory is if the British and French colonies had successful independence revolts right after the fall of Paris in 1940. How impactful and realistic do you think this is?

      That might be worse for Germany in the long run to be honest. Especially if their hoping to be a global super power. Honestly, and somewhat tragically. I think the best way for history to go perfect for Germany. At least geopolitically speaking. Is for them to lose the first world war. And then win the Second. As then they would dominate Europe, Africa, and the Middle East in a way I don't think Imperial Germany could of.

    Please, do one about prepearing as well as possible for war with USSR. How could it look if German high command didn't assume Red Army will break after catastrophic losses and actually prepared for total war by means such as:
    -Carrying out Speer style upscale in arms production right after beating Poland and France.
    -Growing Ostbahn and rail gauge reconstruction units to extreme proportions in order to sustain full scale operations before and into winter 1941, without having to rely on captured soviet trains.
    -Not diverting resources into Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe from Heer.
    -Not bleeding out Luftwaffe over England and consolidating its forces instead.
    -Realising how dire fuel situation is and using it conservatively outside of effort in the East.
    -Turning down or at least concealing genocidal retoric and actions agains conquered people to limit partisan activities.
    -Understanding scale of wear and tear on both people and equipement in such large scale operation and preparing adequate replacements for both.
    -Coming up with an actual plan of ending hostilities instead of "We will beat their army, take Moscow and bomb Ural once a week and they will probably disappear".
    Just throwing ideas that may not be realistic but anyways, loved this episode and im very curious what do you think about a scenario of Germany trying to prepare for total war in the East. (Edit-typo)

    Many people forget the fact that the French could have, quite literally, ended the war in months by driving into Germany during the invasion of Poland. 102 French divisionsm, most being the absolute crème of the crop of the French army were going to face 20-30 low strength conscript divisions.

      Funnily enough in contrast to a lot of other channels this one seems to be filled with Allies-fanboy. So many factors went into the defeat of Germany that mistakes as early as 1940 could have changed the war drastically.
