  • Using markers to help represent natural timber gives another level of information to the 3rd party reading our design ideas. Sometimes we use this technique to help ourselves visualise a concept.
    If you're feeling generous, I'd very much appreciate the support - www.buymeacoffee.com/productdm - thank you very much!
    Here are the simple steps that enable us to quickly make our sketches look like they are made from wood.

      My pleasure!!! Yes, great idea for a video, thank you. Just have a few other videos in the pipeline, but that seems like a great suggestion to me.

    Thanks for these tutorials they are so helpful.. do you happen to have these pages as photos / images that I could print out for my class to use by any chance? My sketching is so inferior to yours even after watching these over and over!!

      Louise Parker that’s very kind of you, thank you. I’m very flattered but I’ve been picking up tips over many years and consider myself to be an above average amateur and nothing more. My big thing is communicating thoughts and ideas rather than producing artwork. Some of my pages are downloadable on my website www.productdesignermaker.com but if there’s anything specific you’d like, pm me an email address and I’ll try and help.

    Would you be so kind to share the markers and pencil you re using here. I am overwhelmed with all the brands and shades. It would be very helpful 🙏

    • @productdesignermaker

      The pencil is a standard Staedtler HB. The markers are Copic.... E44 E59 E49. I’m also using a white pencil crayon. Thanks for the kind comments.

    Have you got a good budget alternative to copic markers

    • @productdesignermaker
      @productdesignermaker  4 роки тому

      Douglas Charlie Hi, you’ll find out more online, than I can write here. I haven’t made a video on this yet, so I would suggest typing ‘alternatives to copics’ into UA-cam and you’ll get a lot of extremely useful information. Hope this helps.

    i find it hard to achieve the realistic look. must the lines of the wood pattern be consistent length? if so is closer better

    • @ltke835
      @ltke835 4 роки тому

      white spots are a nono too right

    • @productdesignermaker
      @productdesignermaker  4 роки тому +1

      Ltke the lines of grain normally run the whole length of the piece of wood. If you’re trying to achieve a realistic look, it might be an idea to find a piece of wood and look closely at it before trying to recreate it on paper. The effect I am trying to achieve with my work in this video, is simply to give the impression of wood. The person looking at the work would ordinarily employ their imagination to fill in the gaps. I wouldn’t normally try and make wood look very realistic in this case. I hope this helps.

      @@productdesignermaker thanks so much for the speedy reply. i was trying to achieve the realistic look but it was just to give the impression. I saw ur works and was like "woah that looks real!' while looking at mine im like oh no its too exaggerated. I guess i need more practice. thanks for the help!

    • @productdesignermaker
      @productdesignermaker  4 роки тому

      Ltke my pleasure. Another issue is which pens you are using. I have chosen my pens very carefully to make this process easier. If your pens contrast a bit too much with each other, then it can be very difficult. It’s also worth practicing this process in pencil or Biro, to help become more familiar with the look of the grain, its structure and colour/tone.
