Hey everyone! I am Jesse Aultman, the writer/director of The Spirit Became Flesh. Thank you all for watching and commenting! Will respond to as many questions as I can today. Thanks again to Alter for releasing our film to the world!
Fantastic work. Acting, writing and directing all on point. Major props to the lead actress as well. I've been face-to-face with people I loved that had that same look in their eyes; burrowed so deep in their belief that nothing gets through. She nailed that look perfectly. That, IMO, is true terror. My question for you is was this film inspired by any personal experience? If so and you'd rather not share details, a simple "yes" is a perfectly valid response :)
@@bucketogix Hey, thanks so much for the kind words. Chloe was amazing to work with, and I agree, she nails that look. To answer your question, it is inspired loosely from personal experience. I grew up in the Bible Belt and have seen my fair share of fanaticism.
Although I liked the film very much, unfortunately I don't get it, maybe I'm just dumb. So, he was shown the light and the glory of god, but he shot him? He killed god and he still believes? Sorry, stupid atheist needs some clarification.
Even as an atheist, I don't think it's wrong to have a belief/religion as long as it teaches people to be good. But the moment they succumb to temptation or fanaticism, saying and doing harmful things in the name of their belief/religion, that's where I think they effectively betray their own God.
@@judgeberry6071 Oh there certainly is, I don't deny that, it actually also falls under belief system. But, it's much harder to unite people unlike with religion, because they can't blame a higher being for their own actions. So far, I've seen only a few examples of that and in no way can compare to sacred wars
@kennethnguyen88 I Agree with your original comment. I see that you're open-minded and follow logic so much respect. As far as religions causing wars though i have to say thats not the total truth. I know you agree when i say anything can be twisted to justify ones own selfish will. Many wars have been waged in the name of god back in the day but we both know that was just a mask.
@@pappas610 Yeah, I agree. Anything, whether it's beliefs, info, or data can be interpreted and manipulated in multiple ways, from small scale like local to big scale like world wide. It's just that religions traditionally direct people easier, but nowadays, info and news are just a similar tool. Whether it's good or bad is up to the intention of the wielders. Belief/religion/power is good when it's good, but when someone goes astray, it's worse the further that person is up the chain.
Such a good example of a short horror film. Incredibly engaging and thought provoking, and with a genuine twist/innovative way to resolve the narrative. Loved it!
Coming from a very religious family, this literally reminds me of my childhood. To each their own,but don’t force others to believe in your religion! That definitely looked like a Wendigo!😳
¿do you think it was a pact with the brother and the demon? for the cure of his sister if he believes in him and stays in the cult, but after the demon death i dont know if the cure was permanent or it vanishes
@@lesleyrussell8200 Nice observation. Just might be or was the sister's "illness" brought on by the cult's fanaticism and hysteria everyone seemed to be presenting?
Truly fabulous work! Excellent camera work, editing, the score is outa this world, the acting is solid and grounded, never overdone, and a fkg weird spooky nature-spirit story. Wow. Get yourself some hefty funding for the feature - A24 should be happy to pick it up.
@rontronimous, no, I got A24 vibes because it is, as I mentioned, a fkg spooky nature-spirit story; because it's gooey and bloody and dark; and finally because it fits neatly into A24's lineup, and it does not answer all your questions for you. It's interesting, thought-provoking, and has the potential to expand to fill a feature-length film. They really oughta pick it up.
Yeah, it's very similar to the full-length film The Ritual, which depicted the Wendigo as actually fucking terrifying and is a really good film with decent lore, this is like a mix of a WildMan/Woodwose and a Wendigo, more like a Wildman because it can be shot and killed inside it's own forest, Wendigos can't be harmed within their territory and is the reason the never leave it.
@rontronimous the monster in the ritual was a child of loki but I like the idea of it being a Nordic version of a wendigo . But am definitely going with it being a family of wendigos who were turned by the original wendigo during a hard winter
I have a short story about an elderly woman and her garden with little strange statues, I think maybe can be a good short horror movie. PS: Sorry my english. A part of the story: "I know that if other people had experienced that horror, they would have left the house out of trauma and fear, but I decided to stay out of stubbornness, despite the fear of staying. Later that morning, I thought about removing all the objects Charlotte had given me from the house, and I began by taking a picture of a painting depicting three women, all wearing white dresses, standing in a vast area of vegetation where there was a mansion in the background. Above their heads was a blackened circle. Behind the painting, I found a hole in the wall, where there was a book, most likely kept, or rather hidden, by Charlotte. It was a black-covered book with the title..."
Watched this short film last night and let me freaking tell you, the sound design was phenomenal. It was absolutely spine-chilling! Very subtle sounds was meticulously crafted to send shivers down your spine. Definitely added to the depth and atmosphere of the experience. I still hear the goriness of the flesh coming apart! Ya'll wild for that.
I think the implication is that he's lying to his sister. It showed him "the glory", but he wasn't fooled. He knew it was evil and so he killed it. But he's sticking around because he knows his sister is still sick and wants to get her out of there, so he's playing along.
So impressed with this film!! Stellar performances, atmosphere and lighting is on point. Congratulations on a phenomenal job, will definitely look forward to more from you in the future 🎉 Also side note, anyone else think he looks a bit like Sam from True Blood?? The name is ironic lol

OK, @Jesse Aultman.... I've got some Q?s! ALWAYS do a background check before showing up for dinner.
Had to watch this twice to confirm the creature's intentions. The "glowy" eyes that appeared in the background at 7:07 kinda sealed it for me.
