This is why even on my medium light I always use the thinnest 10lb line I can find, which is max rated for most medium light rods. 10lb usually never breaks on me for pond/canal fishing.

Your videos are great, I dont know how I found your channel but it got me to buy some Eurotackle jigs and soft plastics. Went to my favorite lake and I stopped counting after 50 trout caught. Very rarely did I lose fish on the jig as well. Keep up the great content!
Glad to see you getting out there brother! This weekend ended up being a wash for me. Here in NJ, we got the remains of the Morris Canal, some of it fish able. Actually got a couple brown bullhead in the past on a trout magnet jig.

6 lb would definitely be a good move. I only really like to use my ultra light and realized the 6 just makes more sense especially with these eurotackle lures being so good. The epf swim catches everything!

The lake I fish here in western PA is a panfish enhancement water and crappie has a 9” limit. Ever since they put that into affect we have had very nice quality crappie I caught a 2.2 lbs white crappie in a tournament this spring

Had another 2lb speckled trout inhale a epf swim, not into the gut this time but deep enough it got into the gills sadly, same spot as the last one back in june, starting to think i gotta stop using lures for trout there lol
make sure ur using the lightest line you can for size of your bait and a proper small hook that changed my panfishing game alot, light mono and small jigging movements dont scare them w big movements

I like the zooms on the catfish
To avoid losing an accidental large fish when targeting smaller fish in freshwater, I use 6 to 8lb test. The small fish still hit the heavier line.

If it not to much more difficult you should carry a rod n reel like a medium heavy or if its easy to switch reels bring one w heavier line
