My first run with no major mistakes, and probably my last one before the Wires update. There are still a fair few optimisations that would probably allow a sub-20.
It seems a lot of viewers may have found themselves here without knowing what the hell this is, so just to clarify a few things... The game is shapez.io. You can get it on Steam, or go play a free version at shapez.io/ There's no excuse for not giving it a try! Its a really fun, really chill game with depths you may not initially perceive. This is a speedrun of the copypaste% category, which is just getting to level 12 as fast as possible. Rublie14, I have not finished it yet, but I’ve been seeing people say that the last level is level 20, the shapes seem to get quite hard by level 16 or 17, so level 20 is probably a reasonable end.
@@rublie1426 The game does technically go on infinitely, but after level 20 the shapes required for each level become randomly generated, and you do not unlock anything new. But its still very much worth a purchase in my opinion! And there are a number of new features that will be added in future updates, which I think will give the game a much longer lifespan.
I just did my first game 2h in and I apparently stopped just before the speedrun mark. Saved the game though so I should be able to finish it and see what time I got XD
It's a cool game, developer are into / involved with Factorio. As I see it, Factorio is WAY more commitment to time like 50 times more complexity, with Shapez.io, you can spend 20, 40 hours to get most of the groove of Factorio, without having to invest that much time. (for just a few bux). It's like the fun part of factorio, without having to learn so much details.
First question: It's a person trying to finish as fast as possible a game where one has to manipulate shapes with machinery and collect it all into one place, leveling up when reaching milestones of quantities of different kinds of manipulated products so to get better machinery, and so on. Second question: UA-cam is in hangover mode. Don't worry about it
I loved watching DF and aliensrock playing this and I find it hilarious that a game where you cut and color shapes is this optimized already in speedrunning, it could definitely be greatly optimized but this is amazing
@@ThePizzabrothersGaming the only complexity involved is that you need to do more, but all in all there is a optimized build to do everything as fast as possible. it becomes a hassle when your resources spawn shitty,, but then just reroll.

i literally just came here to view how to make easy combiners for color to color and color on shape. I got what I needed and may I say it only took me 5 hrs to get to blueprints.
With just the three speedrun achievements left, I just popped the 120- and 60-min achievements, using this vid as the guide. Thanks!! ... only one to go. /sigh/ ;)
I honestly kind of feel stupid for not thinking of the extractor/balancer pyramid set-up for increased output per conveyor line per resource patch. It's so simple but so ingenious.
@@Andwo0 I seriously doubt that.. The logo and rocket shapes are the only tricky shapes in the game, the rest is just simple cutting, stacking and painting.
I played through to level 20 w/o looking at any tutorials or youtube videos for help. What a fun game! Now I'm looking around to see how other people do things, and I'm amazed at all the stuff I was doing wrong. Super fun anyway. One thing in particular I noticed is that you don't have to worry about which direction you lay down your tracks? When I set a track going the wrong direction, items won't flow on it. Even if it's just one cube, it stops all progress until I hunt it down.
there's a keyboard shortcut that I had forgotten existd until I just watched this now and saw it used constantly. Had to check in game, and it's holding down alt to reverse directions. Had no idea there was a thing to toggle the bend direction when using the planner to lay long belts, had to poke around and find it - that's pressing r (while still holding shift and dragging)
It says they move twice as fast but if you actually try to use them like that (put 2 whole belts in, move them forward with 1-wide splitters, split them into two belts again) their transport speed is as fast as a belt
I'm not sure that is perfectly true? I've done pretty much testing and I can't find a way past the speed of the belts into the hub, no matter how I configure the source or the settings. For me, a belt into the hub is a belt into the hub at a given speed. I can add as many machines / splitters, sources I want, even direct from source to hub without cutting or anything, do everything i can to max the belt, can't get it to take more than it will take off the belt. I'm not playing it on a fast computer, so maybe it's better on different hardware. If you have something to improve that, I'd love to know
6:30 how do you keep the belt rotation like that?? whenever i hold left click with the belts, they always auto rotate edit: just hold ctrl while placing the belts smh

I've heard vague whispers about Freeplay% (i.e. getting to level 20), but I don't think anyone has made a serious attempt at it yet. I estimate it would take about 2 hours, and lag would definitely be a factor in the late game. My hope is that the upcoming updates to the game will make a full speedrun more palatable.

Thanks! I assure you, my first playthrough was a glorious mess too! To answer your questions: - I doubt the next update will change copypaste% much, as long as the level requirements up to blueprints remain the same. Wires and energy will likely not feature heavily in optimised speedruns, but I don't know exactly how they will be implemented so who knows? I've not been keeping up with the dev's exact plans, but you can find out more on the discord. - If you place belts while holding ctrl they remain in the direction you place them, rather than re-orienting themselves 'intelligently'. - Similarly for tunnels, holding ctrl will stop it automatically flipping when you place one down. Hopefully that will help ease some of your frustrations!
Probably, though I don't think I would have the patience to optimise it nearly as well as others would. I think a lot of things are changing in the next update, so I'll re-assess when that happens.

You do know that you can piggyback miners so you don't have to use the merger right? just put a miner facing another miner and it will produce twice as fast.....put 3 together and they push 3x, etc.
Did you know that you could place collectors feeding other collectors? That way you could place lets say five collectors behind eachother, facing the same direction, with just one output. May come handy in a speedrun

OK, I had to try a speedrun for myself. From start to Blueprints it only took me like 3 and a half hours. Haha. A long ways to go.

Try to calculate how to do 4 or 8 or more belts. For me that took 6.5 hours and it took like 30 minutes afk
