I love how Mika is so articulate and empirical about his thoughts and what he experienced during his racing days, It's good to have him having these insights and sharing this to everyone. Good Job McLaren!
I only started getting into F1 in '98 but he was the last driver to ever challenge MS. Schumacher probably feared him because he respected him, if that makes sense.
@@dashbee3264 They only raced against each other 2006 with "equal cars" so not really that long rivalry... 05 was joke from Ferrari. Renault won tirelottery on those years when rules changed. Ferrari had nothing 05 and Michael would have finish 5th position on final standings without free 10pts from US gp.
I am still 100% Schumi fan but man, I am so grateful he had the opportunity, to race against such a great racing driver, as Mika is/was, the nicest guy in the world.
I feel grateful that i started watching F1 in -98. Mika and Schumi rivalry was special. That time gave me biggest motor sport memories as under 10 years old finnish kid. Both drivers stands all time favourites for me. I have never since felt such feel of fear in watching sports as to the red maranello back then and worrying Mika to lose. 🥲
Mika was fast, like properly fast. He made some very ordinary cars look quick and then when McLaren finally built him a car worthy of his skills he delivered 2 World Championships against the most feared competitor of the era. If he'd had a decent car throughout his career who knows he could have eclipsed even Schumacher.
That cheeky smile he has... I was always a Schumacher fan but later on I did appreciate what Mika gave us viewers, awesome fights with Schumacher, sometimes hard but always fair :)
I remember that race like it was yesterday. I was 16 and motorsport was becoming a major interest in my life. I got up at 6am to watch Mika bring home his second championship, for he was the driver I looked up to. My dad thought I was crazy getting up at 6 on a Sunday. 20 years, how time flies. :/
for me I was 7 years old and I remember my uncle telling me about the possible outcomes of the race the evening before (like "Mika is WCH if,...) and that's were I really started to understand how the scoring system worked so I would get up early and watch the race in my grandmothers bedroom (cuz ofc she would be up that early already). And Mika would eventually become world champion. Remembering those things vividly really makes me understand why I fell in love with f1 and (motor)sports in general. It's good to have that!
Moi, Mika Hakkinen! Mita kuuluu? Well, actually I'm starting to learn some Finnish language. Your one of my favorite F1 drivers ever! 20 years?! It's still incredible to still remember winning the Grand Prix in Japan and become the 1999 Drivers Champion! I'm wishing the best for you for many years to come.
Terve! Hauska että sinä haluat oppia suomea (it means "how fun that you want to learn finnish" ). Im also learning finnish and I've actually come quite a long way already :).
no champions like him in this hybrid era. his duels with micheal were legendary. both amazing drivers great respect for each other. missing in the cry babies of these hybrids F1 these days. want a mclaren at top at the earliest.
Mika, my Hero! Remember 12 September 1999, Monza. Mika made a mistaken and spun off the track, so, race over for Mika, he burst out in tears at the side of the track. We were in the UK, in the Cotswolds on vacation watching the race on a small crappy tv. So, I went outside to cry too. My husband, a Schumacher fan urged me to come back inside. No way, my race was over too. That was the only time I did not finish watching a race. Well, the view outside was beautiful and that year Mika won his second championship anyway. 💙
obviously meaning that Michael could crash on him if he had the chance..we all remember that he had done it more than once in the past....but in the end he is right, Michael would NEVER EVER help Irvine win the championship while he is in the same team..
You can see and hear why he beat Shumi in a lot of races. He is absolutely meticulous about every detail and has amazing clarity of mind 20 bloody years after the event!....Proper F1 driver he is.....
having that crash that fractured his skull, and had a track-side tracheotomy. But he didn't give up, and would go to win 2 world titles, what a legend. Like if you agree!
he fractured his skull but luckily 2 doctors were standing at that corner, they performed a tracheotomy on him before Dr.Sid Watkins arrival and probably saved this life

Mika should participate by voicing in a new animated series like he did with Button and Hamilton did. But this time he would provide oversight of Lando and Carlos as the legend, and still in a superman outfit. That would be epic and fun.
11:41 I bet Schumi was actually really happy Mika won. While Eddie wasnt bad, no way did he deserve to be Ferraris first champion since 79. I am 100 % sure, Schumi would have destroyed him in 99 as well if he didnt broke his leg.

Love this. No obnoxious music, not an insane amount of cuts, just a very very articulate F1 champion talking about his days racing.
The only driver Schumi feared, and he even got Kimi into McLaren. Absolute legend!

Schumi afraid of him, bcs Mika is absolutely strong & consistent. More that mclaren machine in that day 😅
