Mika is such a gentleman and a scholar. How can anyone not like the dude? That cheeky smile? Reminds me of that Top Gear thing he did with May.
Yes
You don't need to hate the opponents of your hero to enjoy F1.
@@SocietyUnplugged Well said. A lot of fans don't understand that.
i can give you two reasons
1. damon hill
2. jacque villeneuve
He was a dick to his wife and left her in the cold I heard.
“Michael, this was not kind of you.”
“No, Mika, this was racing”
And then they shook hands and walked away? Astonishing.
Michael respected Mika because he was a married man and a future family man, with kids. Mika was not a party person. Just look at the drivers Michael put off the track they were not guys with family.
@Adam Chlebovec What do you think about Senna?
@Adam Chlebovec I think bc of their differing off track personalities and also the stereotypes connected to their nationalities, we tend to judge the dirty aspects of Senna's and Schumacher's driving differently. It's simply easier to paint the calculated German as a villain than the eccentric Brazilian. There are plenty of similarities to how the two conducted themselves on the track, both deliberately crashed into their rivals to secure a World Championship for instance. It was common practice for both in on track battles to position their cars in a way that left the opposing driver with only two options: either give up the position, or crash. For behavior like this, Senna is hailed as a mad genius, an all-or-nothing type of driver, someone who would never back down from a fight (an interpretation undoubtedly reaffirmed by the mystique he tragically earned through an on track death). Compare that to Michael who is seen as plain dirty and a bad sportsman and winner for it. I believe if there somehow was a motorsports fan who didn't know these two guys and had no pre-existing opinion of them and you showed him tapes of their driving, he wouldn't judge Michael and Senna too differently.
Finally someone that think the same way I think!
Im Brazilian (Sorry about my english) and its hard to ser when people talk about Senna, its always about the Genius and Schumi is always "Cheater" "dirty racer"
But the both have the same driving style, i dont know why they get so many hate about Schumi
@@willianesteche7739 They like racing for the race, something i could not do,they went all out all.. Rules are good, but watching the real men drive was epic, all of them win or lose.

The real Michael 's rival
Mika said that he would invite Michael to McLaren. But the question: would Michael do the same to Ferrari?
Mika is the type of rival everyone wishes to have. He never plays dirty, but pushes you to the limit
Same with Kimi honestly. He always gave you just enough room for it to still be fair, but always pushed you through every corner.
Finns have the bad habit of playing fair and finding pride in even losing with it. Even when you are cheated against, you just build the feel that it will feel even better when you beat then anyways.
And Schumacher is the opposite.
Always loved the way Mika referred Schumacher as “the Michael “ and Ron Dennis as “the Ron”
Year late, but in the F1 scheme... There's only 1 true Michael and only 1 true Ron (The Michael and The Ron). We could also add Ross Brawn to this list as he did something magical after Mika and Schumi left the game.
Could be also ron jeremy?
Do you think it is the language? Finnish maybe uses that like you would be The Sean.
@@rafaeloda it's a language related issue. "a, an, the" etc. Front small words (idk real english word for those) are quite hard for the finns to understand and use correctly.

Hakkinnen was Michael's strongest rival, by far!
And his favourite and most respectful Rival. Sad that we can’t see this both together talking anymore..
yeah, for Alonso, Michael was never a rival
@@sanchezbus3602 2006 season would disagree with you.
Schumacher himself said Hakkinnen was the only driver he truly feared on track
1998 clearly with the best car, 1999 almost lost the title to Irvine due to his own mistakes (MSC broked his legs as shown at 4:06 in the video). In 2000 with cars more closely matched, he lost in the penultimate race. In 2001 the McLaren wasn't that competitive and even Coulthard had a better season than Häkkinen (just like in 1997). He's a bit overrated in my opinion. Schumacher probably said that because Hill and Villeneuve were at best just decent drivers that only won 1996 and 1997 respectively due to a blatant better car.
"I overtook the Michael"
Childhood memories.
Loud cars, great drivers, amazing days.
For me too.
"I...I quite enjoyed it, not sure if the Micheal did." looks over cheesing from ear to ear
It was so sick, Schumi chasing that Ferrari title for years. We never really knew how good Mika actually was. He would just turn up and be no Michael, its my day today. Too bad he never fought back from 2000 defeat.
Omg I remember too lol, 'the Michael'
I overtook the Michael and afterwards I went to see the Ron in the motorhome
When I met Mika 3 years back at the Singapore GP he asked me why I was wearing a Ferrari T-shirt and I replied because of Michael, and he smiled and his eyes began to water a bit and said 'on track he might have been my greatest rival, but off track he was an amazing friend' and that kinda made me cry seeing Mika put out so much emotions on display and how he felt about Michael

A Macca Agreed. I remember watching that live and it took my breathe away.
It wasn’t just the move itself, but the context. Towards the end of a tight championship battle that had been going back and forth, and Schumacher was blocking him for lap after lap to the point you doubted Hakkinen would get through - then the 1 in a million timing of Zonta and history was made.

Yeah. That's right.
How a proper rivalry should be, well said.
I assume mika is a finn for mike? And mike is short for michael, idk tho since I am not finnish
@@kevinhanandi michael -> mikael -> mika
One thing that made Schumacher respect Hakkinen was the fact that Hakkinen didn´t fall for Michael´s mind games. Mika was always very strong on this, which is a typical fin trait, cold, efficient, no bullshit kind of person.
You can see Michael respected him, while to other drivers you can see Schumacher was quite arrogant most of the times, because he saw them as mentally weak. While Mika was always Mika, not only he respected Michael, but he also knew when to show him the middle finger, the difference was that Mika showed him with a smile, fastest laps and wins. While others would burst into a insult fight and get the emotions best them on track.
They also remained good friends off the track, with Mika and his wife having visited the family several times since Schumi's discharge from hospital after the skiing incident, and Mika flew to Brazil as a guest of Michael's for Michael's final race with both Ferrari and Mercedes (the two times he retired from racing).
You nailed it. This was the only time between Senna and Alonso that Schumacher ever had a real rival who could beat him without needing the help of a vastly superior car.
WTF are you talking about mate. inventing romantic dogshit to suit your perceived fairy tale.
You are talking out of your arsehole to be perfectly frank. or in your Narnia world... to be quite Finnish, "cold, efficient, no bullshit " yet here you are talking utter and total bullshit.
You can argue that Ferrari had the better car from the latter half of 99. And there was also the reliability thing that McLaren had issues with during the time.
@HAL 9000 oh mate tell me about it! 2005 was definitely the worst for their reliability woes. Poor Kimi.

@steveninthe Max Verstappen is a one of case caused by a loop hole in the regulations that is now patched (and that shows because although he is rapidly fast he is also very crash happy) even still you can't say the cars are easy to drive as he has shown incredible ability, regardless i apologies for the name calling and the wording of my comment i will retrack it but i got legitimely upset with the wording of your comment "I need drivers fighting the steering wheel driving monsters and hanging on for dear life" if you ask me that wording is against modern safety standards.
I Love Mika He was a gentleman and absolutely top driver!
I was hooked to F1 seeing this guys race. Was a kid back then. Those were crazy times. Respect to the legends
Yeah. Schumacher Bros, Mika, Coulthard, Montoya, Rubens Barrichello, Eddie Irvin, Button. They all were such a class and looked real men unlike today's social media drivers. The rivalries was top notch. Even if Hamilton topple Schumi's record of seven title, it will be nothing as compared to what Michael did with the competition around him.
@@shreyansh410 the field had it's own class.
Mika was an amazing race deriver and individual. Without Schumacher in his era he could have won many more titles. So much respect for this man, he never complained like the current F1 drivers, he just got on with it.
I used to hate this guy as a kid. Now that I actually understand rivals and know how they treated each other I love this dude. No media attacks, just racing. Fight it out on the track, not in the press like they do these days. There will never be any greater drivers than these two. Even if Hamilton and Vettel win 20 WDC's both, they cant be compared to greats like this.
Why?
only bad people with a very bad personality disliked mika. That's a fact
I love the way that Mika explains everything. It would've been amazing to see him racing Schumacher for longer
All these videos give me serious goosebumps! Great work 👏🏼
#KeepFightingMichael
No one can replace they both.. 🤩🤩
I don't even know how many time I rewatched this video...but it gives me goosbumps every time.
the Flying Finn..respect to him and Schumi
