I used to Drive for Travis Perkins in Battle. You should see the fun we as drivers have there so roads you have to refuse to go down due to roads not wide enough to get down and and car owners parking in the way
Two typies of artic drivers -- those who have gotten stuck, and those who will. Great job not turning it into an all-out accident. Also, bonus points for knowing how to use the difflock. I don't know about over there, but over here in the US, you ask stuck drivers if they have their difflock engagned, and too many of them go, "What?". Looking forward to Part II. 🚚
Hi Linda . I know what your saying. Up here in Canada all roads are salted subdivisions side roads . Looks like Scotland only do the free ways . But of course our winters are more severe. I have at times left my difflock in gear and gone side ways as rookie . Greetings from Canada Trucker Al retired.👍🇨🇦🇺🇸
Only driving a box truck here in Sweden (Still in school training) but our parking spot has a small hill to get out onto the main road and diff and manual shifting can save the day, max weight on my truck can be 28000kg or 65000lbs so still fairly heavy.
This is the side of things that the public does not see, these guys get everything to stores around your area no matter what the weather. Great video mate 👍
Hi my friend 🙋♂️ !! Thanks for this excellent tour and commentary ! An excellent museum and preserved buildings and contents 👍 ! Greetings from Scotland 🏴, cheers, Don 👋 !!
Spent a lovely week close to Peterhead ( Fraserburgh) with my family when they were young, went for a drive around the port and it’s much larger than you would imagine, thankfully the hotel was very good and plenty for the kids to enjoy because it rained every day and the day we had sunshine and showers it blew a gale, nice area to visit, great post and like so many others my stomach was wrenching watching you try and get up the hill
Great video Luke, been in that situation a few times myself. I wonder how many people were secretly hoping the wagon slipped off the road and fell into the ditch having to be rescued by a tow truck. Lol
Bit of a slippery situation. However due to experience you got out of it truck intact and no tears. Nice one bud. Keep trucking matey. Nation needs you and all other truckers. Dave.
Thank you Luke Enjoyed your video More then you recording it But well done to you. How lucky we are down in the Midlands Be looking forward to Part 2. Hopefully don’t need to keep my fingers crossed for you all goes well Thanks again. Take care stay safe and most of all Safe Trucking.
Slippery roads, empty trailer and strong winds, such a great combination right :) That small hill as you turned onto B992 seems like a great spot for manual shifting third or fourth gear and just keep the throttle still and hope for the best :)
Cracking video Luke, got to hate the slippery conditions, when I worked on the buses spent a morning rescuing stuck buses, went out with an old double decker,a couple of shovels and a workmate, saved tow out charges for 5 incidents, got stuck once myself but dug myself out and when I got back to the depot the manager didn’t say well done lads, just said where have you been all this time!! Got to laugh!😂😂 Keep up the good work and keep safe! 😀🚛
I think the delay worked in your favor giving the temperature & sun a chance to work on the roads. Where I live it's so hilly, I sometimes have 2 throw on a chain or two.
Luke i would have put the towing eye in the other side, that way when you are pulled it gives you the natural angle to pull you away from the ditch and not towards it,
Raising the lift axle on your trailer would have helped a little bit as it would have transferred more weight onto your tractor unit giving it more grip going up the hill.
Well done Luke. Driving in these conditions makes you realize you're either a driver or an operator of a vehicle!! Maybe pack a snow shovel next trip!! ;-) Stay safe.
Well well done Luke, but have a word with your governor and get a set of snow chains,if you are taking loads to and from Scotland in winter it is a sound investment.
Great vlog Luke, yeah you'd did this drive on the day Scotland got it's cold snap - good job you didn't come north as Caithness was stationary under 4 inches of snow - cars didn't start moving om my street until the mid morning - you'd have gotten stuck for sure in Wick.
Loved it Luke your a clever lad not only a class one driver with big balls you have some sick editors skills ❤ Also Luke I’m going for my class one licence I’m only at the start now as I’m about to send off for my first lot of stuff from the Dvla and start studying the theory etc but it’s all thanks to you maté seriously your the reason I so want to get my license thank you Luke 🤜🤛💥🙏
been up that main road quite a few times absolutely gorgeous in the summer winter is usually worst around there. diff locks yes but would use second or third gear and use the soft snow as not packed but good on you for persevering. seen many a truck in these ditches look hard in cold conditions yet to see one take weight of a car let alone an empty truck
Glad your safe and well luke I did the same this to day but unfortunately my lorry it a write off I ended up on its side, I'm fine no injuries or any thing but the lorry is a mess
OMG Luke, you are a nutter - i wouldnt have tried after the second attempt. That could have been alot worse if you'd slid sideways towards the ditch quickly ! :D :D :D
More tension in that video than in an episode of Happy Valley ! You need to carry some stickers mate so that when you meet people that help you out like the farmer with the tractor you just walk up to them and put a sticker on their chest saying “ You Just Met Luke C in a HGV “ 😎
Twitchy bum time in that snow 😅 even though you are not the camera makes you look like your speed is fast through the snow. Well done getting out in one piece
Maybe this is not a question you want to hear but... What about winter tyres? I am frankly amazed that they are not a requirement in the UK. They are not mandatory in France either (except in mountaneous regions as of this year) and we see the panic that ensues immediately as soon as there's a little bit of snow :/
@@lukecinahgv I really didn't mean this question as a reproach to you :) If anything that would be to your hierarchy :p I do know that this all boils down to an economic question ultimately, I just wonder how many valuable working hours from people like you (without even mentioning the associated mental load) have been lost just because bean counters do not deem the investment into winter tyres as being worth it...
When I used to pick up milk from farms with a tractor unit and 25000 ltr tank, there were many times the farmer had to get me out of trouble and with rear steer it was nigh impossible to reverse down a country lane.
Even if its twice as long, always take the 'real' main roads up here Luke lol. Most of the old A roads like that one just don't get the same treatment, you're literally driving in between the 2 roads that get gritted and snow ploughed all day. Nice bit of excitement and a good taste of the accent thats almost impossible to understand sometimes
I understand the difficulties on the climb in this instance, but a burning question Why do trucks today can sometimes have difficulties uphill in wet conditions? Is it because of economy they are geared/designed for sunny jaunts on motorways only? Great ditch hanger thriller Luke! Could of done with an iceberg to top it though. LOL
Nice job Luke, tried your best to deliver without disturbing the customer but a tractor tow took care of it and all went well afterwards. Why don't HGV drivers put a bag of grit behind the cab, would it not be helpful? But I guess you can be travelling from Cornwall to John O'Groats in 1 journey so you never know what you need.
I know this comment is a bit late, so I don't expect an answear, but why did you not put chains on the tires? Are they not allowed in Britain or would they simply not have worked in this situasion?
When all cars were getting stuck and saw lorries still getting through used to think they had more traction cos of the weight. Now I drive a lorry don't realise how good those drivers were managing traction up hills
Hi Luke, which app do you edit your GoPro footage on? Just got into GoPro-ing but didn’t realise it breaks it down into smaller segments, would appreciate any advice you have. Love your style btw, casual-laid back and amusing while dealing with sometimes awkward scenarios. Thanks
That’s perfect weather in the early 90s I was an owner operator hauling potatoes from Scotland to Cornwall and any back loads I could get on one occasion I picked a load of rubber boats and there engines I picked them up in Stafford going to Inverness to be tipped as as was approaching AVIEMORE it was minus 10 and a complete white out the weather got that bad the police closed the snow gates happy days stay safe 😂😂😂
I work in a builders merchants and since watching you, it’s given me so much more respect for our HGV drivers. Huge thanks to you 😊
Thanks. I appreciate that as a driver

With cars and vans, we have the option of winter or all-season tyres. Is there the same for trucks?
Raising the lift axle on your trailer would have helped a little bit as it would have transferred more weight onto your tractor unit giving it more grip going up the hill.

I'm living in Finland at the moment and I'm using studded tyres on my car atm.
