She also allowed Tuomas to explore deeper into the musical realm than just being another symphonic metal band. I enjoyed her voice and thought she did a great job under tremendous duress in replacing the legendary Tarja.
@Dan Z Therion has always been a multi genre group, and a less popular one (not saying they're not as good though). They're not strictly symphonic metal and they didn't bring symphonic metal into popularity like Nightwish did.

Anette looks adorable on stage, she looks like she's geuinely trying to have fun rather than fit an image of a metal singer, which imo is what made her era of nightwish my favourite. (That's not to disregard any work before or after her though.)
Anette will always be in my heart. No matter what went down between the members of the band that’s their business. All I know is that I love the two albums she made with nightwish and that her voice gives me shivers. Such an emotional quality to it that’s so special to me. ❤

This is an impressive performance. Scottish bagpipes have been used for years by various rock bands. According to Wikipedia, many rock bands have used Uilleann pipes in their songs. They sure sound great here.

Annette period will be one day recognized as the artistic highest period of Nightwish, and I can tell that I was surprised during the concerts how she was bad considered by some fans, without any objective reason
I did enjoy her work, but it is clear her voice simply is not strong enough to compliment the metal playing live--its far too loud. Mixed with an orchestral backdrop, its as though she is singing in an empty field with 50 mph winds. Your assesment is a good one, regarding a long creative process with Imaginaerum. Never meant to be a permenent replacement, but I think they all knew that.
One interesting thing I just noticed: Anette sings with her head leaning up, something I read that's no good for support but makes the sound lighter and brighter.

It is not fair guys. This is an unmixed, raw sound without reverb, compressor, anything. Why did you compare it or her any other overmixed video on the youtube? Why did compare them each other? Maybe Tarja has the most professional voice. Maybe not... Maybe Floor is the toughest chick on the stage. Maybe not. But i think Anette has the biggest heart three of them. And maybe that is why the Imaginaerum is one of my favourite album. Not the best (Once, Dark Passion Play), but the closest to me. :)
Agreed, for the most part. Unfortunately, Annette really did not have the greatest live voice as evidences by many other UA-cam videos and not just this one. People are always going to compare different singers with the same band or even actors playing the same role. It's like comparing who was the best Batman or the best Superman. I think Annette tried her heart out, at least for a while. Floor seems to be the hardest working so far with Tarja definitely being the laziest. As far as who has more heart, that's a tough one. Floor is definitely right up there with everything she's accomplished. Heck, everything she's been through. As far as who is the toughest, I think it's a 3 way tie. However, Floor's tenacity and sheer size and strength would be a huge advantage in a street fight.
I'm not fussed about one era of singer over another, as to be honest, Tarja and Anette have helped write pretty sweet songs & performed them Damn well and Floor sounds awesome so far. I just love how there's no other metal band around who'll have a guitar harmonise with Gaelic bagpipes. And while this may be my inner guitarist talking, I love Emppu's style of playing
Yeah I think Nightwish might be one of the best metal bands around purely because of how well they incorporated the pipes and the pianos. Plus, Marco's gravelly metal voice fits so well with Floor's feminine hardcore voice... I'd really like to see in the future a re-recording in the studio of Imaginaerum with Floor; we've already gotten the live version, it'd be cool to see how she sounds singing the same songs in a studio environment.

Oh man. After watching this, I have to say that I feel so very very sorry for Annette. I've heard enough of her singing that I know that she's a very good singer. She really is. But ... she was handed an almost impossible task when Nightwish hired her: follow and reproduce Tarja, live. And I say that without being a Tarja fanboy. I didn't discover Nightwish until I randomly stumbled across that Floor Jansen performance of "Ghost Love Score" in Argentina. I'm a Floor Jansen fanboy. But I refuse to engage in the the Tarja vs. Floor arguments that accompany every single Nightwish video. Especially since those arguments always ignore Annette. She is a great singer, and did well when singing songs that Tuomas wrote specifically for her to sing. It was unreasonable to ask her to sing Tarja's songs. I hope that Annette has been able to find success on her own terms.
She released one studio album through earmusic but it charted nowhere except for home country but even there it landed only somewhere on #60-70 for one week. Since then there hasnt really been a notable release
She looked like she was really having fun here. It is sad what happened to her, even though her eventual replacement, Floor, IMO is a much better fit for the band.

They are in this for their own reasons, and what we might think about their choice of lead singers is something they don't (and shouldn't) care for. Anette Olzon made a fantastic addition to the Nightwish roster in her time, and as I have said repeatedly, it made them more popular than ever before. They reached out to a whole new level of fans, and they showed the metal world that they adjusted to what people wanted to hear, not just to what the hardcore fanboys wanted. This is also how a band SHOULD be. If every band starts listening to fans about everything, they are doomed from the start. And they did something right with Anette too, since both the latest albums sold incredibly well. I am pretty sure they wouldn't sell that much if it was a bad thing she was there. As for Floor, we still have no idea how it will sound, but I am sure it will be good. It's a new era for the band, and they are adapting again, as they have done before. Tuomas and the band is amazing at writing songs, and they do so with whoever is singing them in mind. I think we all have to start worrying so little about who the singer is, and start being fans of the GROUP. I don't care about Tarja or Anette or Floor. And now Jukka is away indefinitively. Should we stop listening to them then, since it won't have Jukkas drums? I don't think so. It's the band as a whole that matters. Love them for who they are and for the music they give us. They are a gift to us all.
From what I understand Tuomas wanted Floor initially (after the Tarja sacking) but she was not available due to commitments to After Forever so they didn't even bother. Not sure how true that was but I have heard it from many sources.
I'll be pissed if I go to this concert.. I understand she might feel bad or be sick.. but I would not pay a ticket just to not listen to them at their best.. Hopefully, I'll be attending their concert this next April in Chicago. Now with floor, I'll see what she can really do live.
Diana Soto I seen Floor with After Forever and with Nightwish, and she is pretty good. She has such an amazing stage presence that its hard to not like her. That was really what Anette lacked the most, a proper stage presence. She never really had that in her. Tarja as well had issues that way, but the fans loved her anyway. But as for Floor, I sen her singing the old Nightwish songs twice now, and yes, she fucks it up too. Sounds false, out of key, and so on and so forth. She did the same when I heard her with After Forever many years ago. So not only Anette :D
+Tamara Lippai Because Annette is a good studio singer and not very good live. Her replacement Floor practically lives onstage and is one of those rare performers that can do studio and live almost pitch perfect. Annette is so off key on almost the entire song it's almost pathetic actually.

I think we all have to start worrying so little about who the singer is, and start being fans of the GROUP. I don't care about Tarja or Anette or Floor. And now Jukka is away indefinitively. Should we stop listening to them then, since it won't have Jukkas drums? I don't think so. It's the band as a whole that matters.
Love them for who they are and for the music they give us. They are a gift to us all.

From what I understand Tuomas wanted Floor initially (after the Tarja sacking) but she was not available due to commitments to After Forever so they didn't even bother. Not sure how true that was but I have heard it from many sources.

Diana Soto I seen Floor with After Forever and with Nightwish, and she is pretty good. She has such an amazing stage presence that its hard to not like her. That was really what Anette lacked the most, a proper stage presence. She never really had that in her. Tarja as well had issues that way, but the fans loved her anyway. But as for Floor, I sen her singing the old Nightwish songs twice now, and yes, she fucks it up too. Sounds false, out of key, and so on and so forth. She did the same when I heard her with After Forever many years ago. So not only Anette :D

+Tamara Lippai Because Annette is a good studio singer and not very good live. Her replacement Floor practically lives onstage and is one of those rare performers that can do studio and live almost pitch perfect. Annette is so off key on almost the entire song it's almost pathetic actually.
I never said that Anette is bad. Anette is a good singer just Floor is better. I think that she never fitted Nightwish, but her solo work is really good :)
