The second Castlevania title released on Nintendo DS after Dawn of Sorrow ( tasvideos.org/... ), this game is a direct sequel to Bloodlines ( tasvideos.org/... ) on Sega Genesis. Dracula rises from the dead yet again (cue groan), and it's up to Jonathan Morris, helped out by Charlotte Aulin, a powerful mage student, to defeat him.
This time, mtbRc ( tasvideos.org/... ) fully completes every single map (amounting to 1000% in total, and is therefore considered full completion), defeats all bosses and completes the game in record time.

I've always found it eerie that when the game doesn't know where the player is, it defaults to playing "Faraway Days," which usually plays during the saddest of moments.
For its length, one of the less vocal Castlevania TASes out there.

Love the beginning part of the desert, in which 40 seconds of aggressive jumping is punctuated by a 5 second quicksand intermission.

Since it's confusing a few, quick explanation. 1000% refers to map coverage in POR. There are a total of 10 "worlds" in the game, the first being the main castle. Each one has its own map, and the save file shows total map coverage. So if you have castle at 10%, sand at 90% and circus at 50% (and say haven't reached the rest of the worlds), your save file will show you filled 150% of the map.

@@박강현-k9k It's an optional boss fight, after you purified the vampire sisters, talk to them to start the Richter boss fight, which awards you the true power of the vampire killer whip.

(0:12) - If you have a R4i Revolution cartridge inserted to your Nintendo DS (or Lite), and loaded Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, then reset the game after going to the title screen, it will only show the Konami logo before going to the title screen. Pretty cool unusual starting screen, huh?

@@stuff5499 In CotM, you can use the DSS cards to literally just warp from the beginning of the game straight to the final boss with Dracula.
Why the fuck did this get accepted but the 100% Circle of The Moon Castlevania run got rejected because it wasn't entertaining enough? Paraphrasing but the judge reasoning was "you enter rooms just to leave them, run not entertaining to watch". This is why TASVideos is seen as a joke. Not even the judges can agree what a run should be and the on site rules literally been broken countless times to the point where literal rom hacks are allowed. Out of everything to be strict about TASvideos put good runs into the shadow realm while being extremely loose with the rules they themselves had set.

If anyone a fan of TAS I highly recommend keeping an eye on the rejected run list. Some of them are outright better than the stuff that is getting accepted lately. For the record I have no gripes with this video's run. Just TASVideos's staff double standards really piss me off because the runners hours of work get rejected and we the watchers are missing out on a ton of amazing runs because of shitty judges who let their personal bias decide their judgement. I think any% Pokemon and OoT TAS are stupid but I can acknowledge that they are indeed the fastest way to beat those games. So let me have the 100% runs that I am a fan of.

great if this is 1000%, then what's it called when you get every artifact/sidequest/hpup/mpup/etc?
1000% is just map coverage.
Getting every artifact might make it into a definition of 100% since that counts as permanent inventory, and the rest all depend on how categories are defined so it's quickest to check them yourself or ask someone speedrunning POR.
Either way, a 100% completion is a definition that differs between casual players anyway. Is it getting to the end? Beating all bosses? Doing all quests? Getting all relics? Filling the monster encyclopedia? Spells/Subweapons? All subweapons mastered? 1 of every obtainable item possible? 9/max of items? It depends on you. For me, it's all I listed except 9/max. If I like a game, I want to see nearly all of what the vanilla experience provides.

@@sdgdhpmbp For me personally, I'd consider PoR complete when you do all the Quests (which would necessitate getting all of Jonathan's Sub-Weapons and Charlotte's Spells) and explore 1000% of the map. Getting every single item is a thing I usually do when playing a Metroidvania that I like, but I don't consider it part of the completion experience.

i wonder how people ever figured out there is a glitch that seemingly allows the protagonists to accelerate upward at an astonishing rate while bypassing floors and walls.
Probably some lunatic did it on accident, then they (or someone they told about it) figured out how to replicate it.
Or somebody looked at the code and found an exploitable vulnerability.
What do you mean? They're just spamming the high-jump, and they're only going through the thin floors and breakable walls.
@@jruler93 We're talking about what happens at 3:00 where, after reloading the file, the characters hurtle upwards through the map, allowing them to enter the Throne room super early. Happens a few other times in the TAS too.

Absolutely insane, I would love to see this category but without the warp glitch, I think it brokes a bit the meaning of a 1000% when instead of looking rooms you are warping around.

A button combination switches the voices from English to Japanese (and vice-versa for the JP version), Jonathan saying Showtime indicates that it worked.

@@maturin7089 but it's a fact though. Sotn and aos brought in such a nice twist to the really blant gameplay of castlevania. Your character keeps changing RPG elements give you options to favour Str over health or int over Str for more souls activation. It has limitless potential, but konami was like "DuDe LeTs NoT mAkE a GoOd GaMe."
If you only like SotN and the Sorrow games, that's fine and dandy. But in that case, why'd you come to watch a video of some other CV game?
