I grew Shooting Star last year, very nearly ripped it out as wasn’t doing anything …then boom it went mad. Grew it up some trellis, really nice eaten small. I grow Socrates Cucumber 🥒
@@oddsocksgrowing The Socrates we grow in the tunnel as all female. Tastes amazing, not bitter and good storage. Obvs downside is being F1 you can’t save the seed & you don’t get many in a packet but managed to get some in the Homebase sale.
My summer season is over unfortunately (Southern Australia) but I had a great harvest of cucumbers from Spacemaster and Lebanese. Tried Sikkim Cucumber which has a brown skin but wasn’t very prolific. My favourite zucchini (courgette) is the Costata Romanesco, a ribbed variety that has a great flavour.
Ohh I was going to get the Italian heirloom costata romanesco. How was the growth? Did it produce well? The cucumbers sound interesting 🤔 I may have to look more into it
@@oddsocksgrowing It does sprawl and produces several ‘arms’. I’m not sure how it would perform in the UK. The climate here is mediterranean but we had a cool summer and it didn’t do so well as other years, also had trouble with pollination early on, plus I was late getting things in this year. Not sure which factor played a role and as you know seasons are unpredictable now so all you can do is give it a go. Because of its flavour, this is the only Zucchini I will grow now.
Thanks, that's good to know. I had heard they weren't great. Im sure ill find a use for them. Even if its just to feed the chickens 🤣I just wanted to try them because the climb up. Like vertical growing as much as I can.

I grew the shooting stars a couple of seasons back. Lots of fruit but turned very woodie and not much flavour
