Star Citizen is an open development, crowd funded project from Cloud Imperium. Consisting of 2 games, Squadron 42 a single player, story driven campaign putting you in the middle of the Vanduul attacks as an up and coming UEE Navy pilot, and Star Citizen, a highly detailed
first person MMO set within a persistent universe where there are no limits. This includes, space, and ground aspects, massive spaceships with full interiors and interactions, a full dynamic economy which reacts to the players actions allowing for anything you can imagine.
It is all being built on the StarEngine (a modified version of Amazon's Lumberyard Engine).
Please bare in mind that this is heavily WIP and in an alpha state in which much of the foundational tech to make it a reality is still being developed. Both games do not have set release dates yet but you can play the alpha build for the PU MMO which makes consistent progress
with quarterly patch releases throughout the year.
I am an independent content creator and a fan of the game, I am not paid by Cloud Imperium however I do accept ships from them to giveaway to my community but this will by no means influence my opinion or what I say and believe about the project.

I just want to rent a penthouse at Arccorp with a landing pad. That would be awesome
I see you like beating your Graphics card
@@LostSoul-TeemoMain He has a 4090
@@LostSoul-TeemoMain How would that put any additional strain on a GPU than normally being in ArcCorp? It would be the same graphics to compute
Honestly that is such a cool idea. We should be able to rent locations to a base at least until the actual base building comes into play
Yeah via micro transactions 😢
It’d be nice if you could have framed screenshots on the walls of your base. Just like the old Test Drive
That feature is also in Subnautica :) I like it
@ cool 😎
@@illgottengains1314 also feature in the new cyberpunk update
Ahhh, test drive unlimited....

Even though I'm in an Org, a simple homestead would be nice. Having a garden on top of certain buildings and vines hanging down to help camouflage a structure would be nice too. Thanks for the video!
Same, my org will probably have a very large base somewhere but I want to have a little hunting cabin somewhere.
Would be cool when CiG would work out a personal Base Building and a Orga Based Base Building with the Orga as owner of the Building. The same with the big Space Station.
Would be sad if it´s "Orga" but is owned by one Player.
I really am struggling with how this will work. With persistence, server meshing, and how small these worlds are. Space for bases will be a premium. Meaning having one will require you to keep it.
The dream for me is a self sustaining ranch - a few buildings, a medium hanger and a large landing pad - A few hundred Quasi Grazers or whatever the meta animal is for making money, and enough hydroponic buildings to feed the herd. Tucked into a little canyon or valley a little way off from the major trade routes in an unclaimed system. And enough defenses to put Copperhead Road to shame.
I just hope that when you place a building on the ground the “Grass” doesn’t come through the floor of the building you’ve placed 🤞
... Was that directed at Bethesda? :-D
@@AccidentalFriendlyFiremost games lol
@@AccidentalFriendlyFire haha that has to be like every game I've played. Rust, Ark, etc, etc. lol
I would like to build underground bunkers for asset storage. Would be nice to see secret, covert, and hidden structures that allowed us to save valuables near our outposts.
Homesteads are going to add so many more inactive entities... Poor servers.
There should be IA colonists just to make the empty houses alive. And being able to go inside to steal like in lockers done for that.
For example you've to build a core. That core has a locker (the loot spot). You don't put anything in there. It's just for decoration (and the core is needed to build an home) and someone can break in where you're offline to steal in that locker. If you're online in the base radius, they can raid the base if it's in a dangerous zone and have a possibility to ask for help.
Starchitect will do this too, way more NPC settlements that we have now
However we should have dynamic meshing by the time these features come online
My understanding is that they would be stateless ( streamed out from server, as they would just be stored in DB, so the server entity tracker won't check on them ) if there is no player or any event close to that location, once something "triggers" that entity to be loaded, it will be tracked and become streamed in on the server, only then it would impact the server's processing power.
This is the only solution for Star Citizen's scale, as it's impossible to simulate the PU if the server tracks and updates every single thing all the time.
@@amineabdz this is correct. They're streamed in and out based on players being in proximity. Also, all the stuff mag locked and planted in the ground should be able to be handled much more differently than say, cruz lux bottles or ships, or players. As they can be relatively static, without needing to invoke the physics system.
@@elvyynnMy concern with this is purely practical. Okay, let's say for example Microtech has thirty servers dynamically attached to it because of the large amount of activity on it. And, without a subscription to play the game, how exactly does CIG intend to pay Amazon for all of these servers?
I plan on mostly playing a solo pve bounty hunter life so I will most likely just have a small homestead somewhere to rearm and rest and only visit stations to deliver "cargo" and refuel and buy stuff I need.
A small hidden plot in the forest with a view for a getaway would be keen.
I really really hope we eventually see more station sizes and styles, but it's definitely something for post-1.0 expansion. Let's get to Minimum Viable Product first.
Thank you for being a promoter of this massive project. I'm drained from all the negativity and skepticism from other "Pledgers." Just commit your pledges, pickup your complimentary ship for your contribution to the cause and wait it out. I've been around ten years plus and it hasn't hurt anyone.
I hope we get access to assets like trees & shrubbery.
Would be great to build within a forest and arrange the flora around my homestead.
I want to find a remote planet with beautiful scenery and build a little homestead near the water.
I'm actually going to hold off building until Castra ... nice little frontier style homestead in the forest under Sherman.
microTech is tempting, but I'm so over Stanton and want to live somewhere else.
Hexagon border should be implemented rather than squares land plots .
Or circular plots, so that even with the neighbour's exclusion zone abutting yours, there is a gap where someone can land.
Squares won't work unless they are forced to be aligned North / South.
Being able to rent spots on your base out to other players means we can legit build our own towns and cities. I'm so looking forward to that!
Just looking forward to a fresh start and some pyro sight seeing!
I would like to rent a Hab in New Babbage, with a view and a landing pad. Or on one of those Platforms in Orison, on Crusader. Imagine, waking in your hab, (which you can decorate and equip) to walking out to your Landing Pad, take your small snub Transport or small ship to Space Port, get in your Hangar, and pick your ship that you are gonna use that day to do whatever game loop you wanted to do at that time.
100% same.
Take the elevator to the rooftop landing pad, fly my snub to the spaceport or to a local FPS (urban) mission.
Preferably in one of the many OTHER buildings, street level access to vehicle garages, transit and other locations in the city, etc.
Also renting commercial buildings like vehicle upgrade facilities, crafting factories and player shops selling looted and crafted items ... bars with mission givers, org headquarters (whole buildings w/ multiple apartments and facilities.
Eventually, it would be great to have them as persistent locations like a land claim, not just an instanced interior that is dropped wherever is available.
I would even be OK with dropping real world money into buying a permanent place in the 'verse.
"only limited by your imagination...and desyncs" that really cracked me up!
this is so insane, i can't wait to see all these features when im in my late 70s!
I'm looking to make a material store/ trading post for parts. As I love to gather and hoard materials
I have an MSR. All kinds of servers and computer banks. Supposed to be for storing data for data running. Can those, or any NPC blades be swapped out for computers to do research instead in the future? What if I just really like the ship and would like it doing something besides running data, especially since that's probably some time away?
I was never so hyped to get access to own housing/Basebuidling as with Star Citizen.
Other MMOs should take notes... Yeah, I mean you World of Warcraft, we have waited over 20 years for it. :-)
Don't actually want a base I just want a little chalet
Also I'm not certain it's the best idea to have bases be untouchable if the owner is not logged in because that just means that organizations will have a dedicated base owner account that will more or less never login
I want to be able to hunt for my own food, and cook them on my own grill... I saw a hotdog grill in one of the Pyro stations.. it needs to be functional
@@Mike5Brown I can’t see raids being a thing for a long time. You could be at someone’s shop while someone else is attacking it on another shard. Too complicated
Personnaly I would like encounter player trade hub or smht but I totally agree that having an untouchable base while offline is just tricky same goes with the infatry and tank inavsion ( Tanks can't dmg base while the orbital shield is on)
Raiding as they’ve described it is not too complicated, it’s too convoluted.
How base building will work at Crusader? A gas planet where you can't land, CIG already talked about it?
Maybe you buy a decommissioned barge instead of a land-claim, then you can build whatever will fit onto the available surface?
Maybe a claim will spawn a small platform away from Orison?
I hope there can be server wide events to create other cities
2025 will be the year to see the greatest leaps forward in the project! I’m hoping the quality improves enough that I can recommend the game to friends who are sitting on the fence. We’ll see.
Thanks Mac for another great video!
"We are only limited by our imagination... and desync" 🤣
1:23 the exact name of the track?
they did say that some regions would have an "architectural vocabulary" which van be acquired. looking forward to it
Brilliant report! Thank you, Sir
They're designing this game to prevent you from ever stopping playing or taking an extended break from the game because if you stop playing, you stop paying the protection fee, and all your stuff gets taken away. If you start playing, you must then play forever unless you're okay with another wipe essentially. I'm not interested in giving the game control over my life.
Exactly what I'm worried about. They're designing this game around time sinks like you get in major guilds in other MMOs. With required times you have to be online no negotiation. They're designing large ships to be like 24/7 guild raid commitments. It's a very bad game design.
I predict I will spend tons of time focusing on base building once it's introduced. Or equipment manufacturing. Heck, all building in general.
What do I want? I want to be 100% self sufficient and not be reliant to going to a major city outside of maybe going in for some shopping and selling, and that's it.
An org base in castra to setup shop. And a private homestead somewhere overlooking water
My first base is going to be a warehouse for medical gown preservation
give me the option to have a small base with cargo capacity out of the wahoo so i can mine for liek 100 hrs and stack it up. refinery would be cool but not a "NEED"
My 2 questions are:
1) Will the owner of a base be whomever builds it or how will those who build a base or someone else or for their org grant permissions (set ownership) to someone else?
2) With the mention of attacking a base requiring the attacker be on the same shard as the base owner while they are online, what's to stop people from making a second account to grant ownership to but then never login with? If base permissions can allow you to set the owner of a base but still allow a secondary admin for it, you'd only need to regularly send UEC to the owner account to keep paying for the planetary shield money sink (if you even go that route).
My temporary base will be an ironclad assault
Would love to see timestamps 🙂
this comment is annoying. i think its the entitlement.
Thank you for summarizing all of this for me.
Will they make the Daymar Rally route a no build zone? How are space stations going to impact the obstruction mechanic when QTing? Will our ships recognize them or just smash into them going millions of kilometers per hr?
The same way space works in real life.. nothing collides because it's all too vast and we're all too small.. I'm exaggerating but collision is unlikely
It has been awhile since i QT into a planet but you never know.
@KamalaChameleon Sooooo, you're saying I have a chance! Totally right, and I know it's unlikely but there will probably be handwavium like how we jump through the inner asteroid belt all the time in Stanton. Remember when CIG talked about having a gate we would have to go to to get passage through the ?Halo? belt?
@@vicsid9606 yeah Aaron Halo.. not sure how that's gonna work.. they maybe make the asteroid field so thick and large it's not worth it to jump under or over it? Seems like it's a forgotten file on someone's hard drive at this point.. but I think and hope they are gonna go back and give Stanton a big facelift in the coming years as part of their 5 systems and story campaign 1.0 roadmap. We'll see.. I'm just glad 4.0 finally dropped.. most of 4.0 we've waiting on for years and years.. I'll have to go to pyro for the first time today
I just want a small base with a living area place with a view. I like mining and salvaging so maybe a small refinery or something as well.
Most the org I am in is ready to start building XL sized bases as we have like 12 Pioneers jn the org if I remember right. I have one my self. Along with all my mining ships from Orion down.
No desync 😂😂😂. Keep up the work. I enjoy your videos. Always so much good info!
I can't get excited about things that look like they're 5 years from being in the Alpha and 10 years from being polished anymore. I'm not very demanding, I'm content hauling cargo and killing NPCs, but all these years of concepts and teasers have made me jaded. I'm excited about overall stability and performance being improved, though, I'll happily have my ear talked off about that for years. Tell me about new features in the patch notes, that's enough for me. That says nothing about SMB's videos, of course, they're fantastic and I enjoy watching them without end! I draw some second-hand enthusiasm from that at least.
The rate at which things are being added is increasing. Five years? With ten for polish? I think you're being a bit pessimistic there. :-) There are signs it's coming within the twelve month time frame, not the 12-18 we heard, and definitely not outside it.
Stability and performance will be one of the last things before 1.0 because that’s how software development should be done.
@@AccidentalFriendlyFire I really want to believe you, but there have been so many delays, inconsistent communication (Todd Papy saying stuff, Todd Papy going away, stuff changes, things happen, which is normal) that I like to settle into things I can do right now and take breaks here and there. Trying not to get attached to ideas. That's been exhausting sometimes.
@@AccidentalFriendlyFireyou just couldn’t read this guys comment without feeling like you had to defend a billion dollar company. You are coping.
@@Crittek definitely true for the average project, but as things stand, SC needs continuous and increasing funding. imo this is realistically achieved when new players can come in and find a stable slice of the game to play, which makes them want to spend more (which I don't encourage personally, but it's their money). Building the thing in peace and having something playable at the same time is a very hard and possibly inefficient balance to achieve.. I don't envy anybody who is working on this thing, but I value their work and one day it will be very interesting to look back and see what went right and wrong.
Awesome video thank you!
What about underwater bases?
Or...our own Asteroid bases , we can grab one with a SRV or something get a bunch of them together and have our own Grim Hex 😊
When it comes to PVP in bases, they are going to have to change their plans. The short-term it's fine.
One organization will never be able to blockade another organization base. Say the defending organization has enough manpower to keep the enemy at Bay, but not enough to push them back. If the attackers tried to put up a blockade at Homestead eventually they will run out of the ammunition and supplies. All the Defenders have to do is send a couple players to a different server to go get supplies and bring it back.
Because of things like this in the long term they cannot have your base on multiple servers. This applies to a lot of things even contested zones. Let's say there are 100 different servers. And you have one massive org. If there's a weekly reset on the contested zones. That large org might send a small group of players to each server. To keep track of and slowed the progress of contested zones. Then the main group of let's say 100 players jumps between server and clears the contestant zones one at a time. Best guarantees they get almost all of the loot. Now I understand whether it's one server or 100 that they can control the loot. The big difference is whether they get loot once or 100 times. Especially when there's going to be rare recipes.
I love you take on the answers , when I watched it I got different answers to you LOL
keep living the dream you outlook is good and better than mine
Just post in your native language and let people translate, no one can understand this shit.
I'm looking forward to finally being able to put down roots.. eventually lol
They need to get what we already have right, make mining, cargo, bounty, and pirating all fun.
That happens during beta stage, not alpha.
@@rocklebrun7538 Beta? well 1.0 will be game release ? so where is beta gonna fit in?
Totally agree with you! fix the game first!!!
@@Zombiesmoker inbetweeen 4.0 and 1.0 :)
@@rocklebrun7538 yea thats funny, it will not happen.. they will go from alpha to 1.0. you'll see

So much info! Thank you 🤠
Based building will allow me to homestead but I kindve want to live out my life inside a ship.
Here we go, looking forward to the craziness 4.0 is going to bring
i'll build on the 3rd rock from the sun, jungle deep
If a player bought a ship or subscriber items with real cash, CiG has gone out of its way to ensure that you will be able to recover the item, but with a land claim, if you paid real money are you afforded the same protection?
I can't wait to accept org cargo hauling orders and shuttle down supplies to one of these player-made bases.
they should just create a base building simulator for the Game allowing the community to make blueprint for the game and upload them like mods for people to use in game currency to buy and use people would load inti the simulator to also grab blueprints and demo them even building there bass in the simulator so that know what thay want before they even start the go buy the blueprints in game this would also give modders in game currency for there work and make the community stronger people would even hire modders to design there base custom this could really spark a whole group of new players to come into the game
Wouldnt it be more respectfull from CIG to make the pledged ships a repeatable non-tradeable data pad with a LONG recharge time?
Players payed alot, insurance is a black hole which i see many still panic of 'What will it be like'
All the videos of everyone enjoy 4.0 makes me so jealous I won't be able to try it untill 4th or 5th of Jan when I return back from my work 😢😢😢 but hopefully.by then there will have been a few hot fixes and updates allowing me to jump into a much better version of 4.0 🎉
more of an idea but what if we made a shop where we searched for rare and more rarer item and a bit of everything else out there wed be a shop of everything like a small space trade system that you would be in control of because of how high and rare of items we sell and search for we could even have search groups that would go out looking only for these type of things labeled under are trade routes
And dont worry about any of this for a minimum of 3-5 years. Its all set for the 1.0 release, and probably way post 1.0 release
Everything is possible nothing is impossible, we'll make a ship for that!
Honestly all of this makes me want to completely liquidate my base building pledges. I don't want the never ending time sink they're talking about.
Have they ever said when this is supposed to come out?
One mission type could be that a faction hires the player as a contractor to create and manage a village for mining/trading/housing in an upstart economic hub. Another mission could be to fortify against opposing factions. X4 Foundations implements similar ideas.
we already have crafting but its minimal. not that bad. we need that stuff can make us Food and drink for starter
Looking forward to all of this... loved the "Limited by our imagination... and desync" Has the possibility of building on/in an asteroids? Is there going to be a means of adding custom images? If i start a t-shirt shop with a way of adding a company logo or numbering a limited run item?
One disagreement, unless I understood you wrong, is about raiding bases. They clearly said one ruleset would be “is the player online, if yes, every attacker needs to be relocated to that shard”. However, if player is not connected , this absolutely doesn’t mean the base cannot be raided.
High sec bases can’t be raided offline.
Low sec can
Offline raiding without a chance to defend is gay.
@@Crittek there are also Female players. Offlining them would be straight?
@@4mazingZarek Still gay 💯
If the games stability can barely handle when people abandon their ships all over the verse - how is it going to handle player-made bases
Isn't this like the third time you've released this video? This sel was a month or two ago.
I wonder how they will manage the asset data. Imagine people have hundreds or more, of assets in game 'for sale'. A dealer with 1000 ships at their base. The game will have to manage all of that data. Duel Universe struggled with the amount of data. Will they have to limit the amount of assets a player can have in game.?
dude it struggles now with small percent of that :D :D with all of that game will just die. Fun.
@@totalnizmetekand right now they are not using server meshing. Eat those words once meshing is out.
@@CmdrGamagosk Servers cost money, so it probably won't be this infinite free for all. It'll be cool, but probably not exactly what people are imagining.
@@CmdrGamagosk I will. Promises keep piling up and nothing is being delivered. Aside from ships to acquire more funding.
@@totalnizmetek "nothing" is being delivered. really.. nothing? So what patch are we on... are we still back in the 2.0 days? Are still in PO days and no planets? I must be going crazy because the game I've been playing seems totally different then a year ago, ore even 6 months ago, but I guess you still somehow manage to see nothing? are we playing the same game?
There are so many things they will contradict themselves in until the system is out and even after 1.0. And bringing a more visual styles should be at the very far back of development since it adds nothing substantial.
Wait till ExxonMobil wants to build a pipeline
Yeahs again base building, they listed security points, but hiw exactly are they gonna stop the folks who will just wait and destroy your base for kicks.... 4:37 ahh, then im gonna contiue as a belter then.
Yes I posted early, I'll own that but even with shields some folks just wanna see stuff burn, on a pro level, I've seen folks threatening in chat how they'll hunt bases, ... I've seen lengths folks go in other games lol.
I am old but an so wary about Habs.
Edit for context: Rust, Ark, Early Eve OL, all not being the least, internets denizens are cunning...
It would be better if we had more space and more planets to go and "get lost" in.
When we have 3 or 4 systems and really lost outter arms to hide in maybe one day great, but in a single system with limited real estate.
Maybe it's like Zebra, hide among the herd. 🤣🦓🦓🦓
Or hundreds of throwaway shacks with hidden boxes,
or Orgs blocking whole planets (or systems) with boxes, they then forgot about, and your small mining org needs to spend almost a week of constant fire to blow up the blocking box floating in space before we could deploy our base xD... Lol sorry old Eve Ol memory xD
Can’t wait 😅
do you think they will allow underground base builds?
2:45 base building terminal
How does anyone think their servers, even with dynamic meshing, can handle base building? There’s no way. 5 years minimum.
man i just want working elevator
Imagine, you’re setting up a base and getting attacked before you can even get anything in place…🙄
…well, at least you’re online…!
bro, this game is so fucking big, you're gonna be able to not only build a base in peace, but likely NEVER get found if you don't want to be found.
@ , that’s not what I’ve heard about the war hogs just lying in wait for people to come through the portal.
Disregarding that, how about the fact that you’re talking about what you’ve experienced in a “testing” phase. That is hardly the numbers of everybody who plays the game. You’re talking about your experience of only a fraction of players.
Don’t sit here and pretend that if you’re playing COD that comprises a server of only 30 people that the gameplay would be the same if there were 150, especially when there’s no control to balance the sides.
I doubt u will be able to live off grid without being found. If there are alot of players, someone will find u.
nope. You underestimate how big these planets are.
UA-cam shows this as 2h old but I remember already seeing this days ago. Was it re-uploaded?
If you think this is 5-10 years out, you’re tripping.
Pretty sure it's sarcasm or pessimism.
@ That’s like 80% of the community and I don’t get it. Why follow/play a game to the point where you watch videos in the first hours of their release just to be miserable about it? If you have this much distrust in CIG, leave the community. Don’t just be a drag within the community.
But here you are anyway, commenting about it. Just walk away & play something else?
Seeing some of this being implemented in the next 2-3 years, and then seeing it completed, finalized, and polished by year 5 is a very reasonable expectation considering CIG's track record.
I'd agree 10 years is a bit pessimistic, but then again SQ42 was supposed to be ready in 2016 (but basebuliding also isn't an entirely separate game either).
But still, I understand why people want to keep their expectations low. As they say, keep your expectations low and youll never be disappointed. Game development is messy and delays happen, we all know this here. So giving a 'buffer' is generally a good idea. Especially as a content creator- you don't want to come off as *too* optimistic and sell people a reality that might be unreasonable. If Mac says 1-3 years or something- and many players take that and run with it. they might be disappointed down the line when/if it takes longer
Personally I think we'll see base build in game within the next 2 years, and it will be mostly complete, and then take another 2 years or so to iron out some details, balancing, and add some extra features / polish. I.e. the first year its released will be the functional framework- and then more styles, building parts, quality of life stuff, smaller features, etc will be added later.
No one's forcing you to watch this video or play the game if you don't like it then move on and leave the people that do like it alone @@patrickguerriero5425
I hope to help others build and maintain; I like being a nomad but not so much regular life gameplay on a base. In return for support I like to request minor storage or refuge at the bases I support.
main issues. is i think is NPC AI which is more than terrible :( at least what i saw at most of gameplays vids
I am excited about having a base on another world. Not a fan of having it attacked all the time if the current PVP habits are not quelshed.

I'm going to add a pretty important correction here: CIG was very clear that planetary shields (whether in high security areas or by winning the weekly bidding wars in Nyx and Pyro) are the only ways for your base to be safe, and it will be SAFE, regardless of your online/offline status. If you do not have planetary shields, you can have your own shields on your base that make it invulnerable, but they can be turned off by other players, and the base is still considered vulnerable AT ALL TIMES. The only thing a player's online/offline status does is, if you attack a base that is vulnerable AND THE OWNER IS ONLINE, you must be on the same shard to attack it, and if you aren't you'll be given a prompt to join their shard so you CAN attack it. If they're offline, whoever attacks it first is the shard it's getting attacked in because bases can only be raided in one shard at a time.
Players being offline doesn't do anything at all to protect them. That just means they don't have the opportunity to defend them. So if you want to keep your base from being raided, keep them planetary shields up all the time, and it won't matter if you're offline or not. Because being online when your base is attacked two jumps away also sucks for you, because they'll be able to be in your shard and you won't know...
"a place so remote that nobody will ever find it"
Flashbacks to the time when No Mans Sky claimed that their universe was so big that nobody would ever be able to find each other, and yet in the matter of days, people did find the same locations....
I have the creeping suspicion that people will come across the most remote locations regardless....
Especially with Explorer class ships with advanced long range scanning... you know, in 10 years
CIG could of course create some kind of uber scanner and find EVERYTHING on the planet but that would be OP, obviously. Even with advanced scanning, having counter measures that base builders could use to cloak their small visually hidden homesteads would have to a thing as well. These planets are so big that if people find a random spot in a forest on mircrotech, the likelihood of someone finding you should be incredibly low. I really want stealth building to be thing.
Manufacturing
When it comes to stealing players stuff "Make it tough, make it very tough" I don't know that they could make a system tough enough, while still being gameplay.
Escaping prison is tough, very tough, but you have people essentially speed running it. That being said, if Pyro and other "pvp" systems end up being a troll fest, so be it I suppose, if that's what th players want, then murder and... steal... hobo, I guess, to your hearts content.
