A/C in a Tent (and a few other cool ideas)

- A/C in a Tent is the best way to deal with tent camping
in the hot Texas summers. I've seen lots of videos of people
cutting holes in the sides of their tent to accomodate a
windows air conditioner. Don't wreck your tent, try the
portable A/C instead. We were shocked at how well our portable
A/C worked. The tent was cool and dry all night. Everyone
got a great nights rest. We also cover a few different fan
options, because not everyone lives in Texas, LOL.

It's your camp you can do anything you want, I don't fault people in cold climates for using portable heaters, camping shouldn't be suffering, I wouldn't take it canoe camping in the back country, do you think the solar panels can handle an A/C? Lol thanks for the great video
That solar panel sure wouldn't handle that AC. But, maybe, I could make something work. But by the time I invest that much, might as well just get that travel trailer I want. Thanks for watching, we appreciate you.
You would need a few thousand bucks in solar panels to manage that for only hours
As soon as I saw Texas camping I knew I had to watch this video till the end... thanks
You knew us Texans know how to deal with heat. Thanks for watching, we appreciate you.
We tent camp with our 4 little ones (8, 4, 3, and 10 months) and I would look like a “snowflake” any day if it gets my kids more excited to be outside in nature rather than inside on devices. I’m so excited to try out an air conditioner in our tent so we can camp in the summer months too! 😃 We’re native Texans currently stationed in Georgia. Love your channel. 👍🏼😃
I'm happy to hear of your desire to get the family outside. Whatever it takes, the kids will have great memories. Thanks for watching our videos, we appreciate you.
I used to backpack in west Texas every chance I had in the 1970s. The best way I found to keep cool in at tent in Texas was to camp in the winter! Joking aside it was a nice video. I am looking at one of the A/C unites to put in my overland tent while camping in the summer. Especially in the Southeast.
YES, I love tent camping in the Texas Winter... and that's when I still do tent camping. I bought a big metal tent on wheels for summers now.
Ac in a tent esp in hot humid weather would be so nice to have !!
It works great when the sun starts going down. But it's not effective at all at high noon.
Great video! I too and from Texas, so I feel your pain. We have been using a portable a/c in our tent for a few years now. We started off with a single hose unit. It does make a difference, but soon discovered how inefficient it really was. A single hose unit actually removes the air your trying to cool. It pulls the air from the area through the unit to cool the coils and actually takes that cooled air and goes right out the vent to the outside, thus creating a vacuum effect which is what causes the tent sides to suck in. I moved up to a dual hose unit which works so much better. It pulls air from the outside to cool the coils and vents it back out so as not using the air you are trying to cool and releasing back outside. There are many videos here on UA-cam that demonstrate this. The biggest downside to dual hose vs single is the cost, but once you step up to a dual you will be much happier with the results. Sorry for the long winded post. Happy Camping!!!
WOW, I'm so glad you stopped by. We recently had our home AC go out and I hooked up the portable in the living room, and an old 8000 window unit in my bedroom. I couldn't figure out why my "single hose" portable was not producing near as much air as the 8,000 BTU window unit. But after reading your comment... you're absolutely right, totally makes sense. I see a Honeywell 12,000 BTU for $549.... I just may buy this.... because reasons, LOL. Thanks for watching and leaving a very helpful comment.
Texas Family Camping you’re welcome. Always glad to help out fellow campers. I just noticed we have the same tent too! Lol
@@kevinunderwood2549 I have never really understood why manufacturers decided it was a good idea to use the single hose on any portable air conditioner for the exact reason you stated. Years ago the central air went out in the house we were living in. I simply could not afford to have it replaced or repaired. I have a very difficult time sleeping when it is too hot but my bedroom didn't have the type of windows to allow for a typical window air conditioner. So I bought one of those small portable units. I do believe it was 8000 BTUs. I'm sure a 5000 BTU window air conditioner would have made the bedroom livable so I figured the slightly larger portable unit would have no problems. But for all the reasons you stated, it did a lousy job of cooling the room. Using duct tape, chloroplast and some old dryer hose I had laying around, I fashioned myself a dual hose unit. This made a world of difference since it was no longer sucking the cool air out of the room. I also took an insulated blanket and wrapped the exhaust hose because it certainly felt like it was radiating an awfully lot of heat from it. Suddenly that little 8000 BTU AC unit was able to sufficiently keep the bedroom and the attached bathroom quite comfortable at night. In the daytime I would leave the bedroom door open and even though the compressor ran all day long, it would lower the temperature in the living room a slight bit and of course cut down on the humidity making it almost bearable to live until I could get the central air unit replaced the next summer.
I have a 8000btu window unit for our tent and it works like a charm on those hot days in tx 😎 we even grab some blankies at night!😊
That sounds delightful
For those who hate saying it’s not camping ask em “ya ever been on a cruise ship? Yes? Well why didn’t ya swim?” Ok fine mayyyyybe that’s going a little far, then how about “why didn’t you buy a sailboat and sail the whole way.” Why didn’t you drive? Or why did you drive when you coulda got there on a horse? It never stops. People need to chill n be happy outside period. Not everyone is the same. Not the same age, same health status, same weight same abilities, etc. Some got family coming some don’t. Just tell the haters “you do you and that’s it.” I just got a 13’ WD Regatta Bell Tent and it was HOT last week here in Cali at the lake. 106 in the shade is plenty hot for me. Evening time came and it cooled off some but still super hot in the tent with no fans or anything. Gonna fix that with either several fans for next trip next week or a swamp cooler or an AC unit. Haters be damned 😂it’s HOT this summer!!!
And thanks for the video. I’d like to see your tent set up on a hot day, a measurement of the heat inside with the AC off and another with it on to show exactly how much that particular AC unit helps
That does sound like an awesome video to run tests like that.
I appreciate the information. Looking at portable a/c for our tent and trying to find information, you actually gave the size of your tent and BTU rating of your AC unit. Extremely helpful! Thank You!
I'm all about staying cool. I'm currently working on my next "cool" project.
That's an awesome idea! Your wife got that celling fan and it will circulate that beautiful cool Air! That's is a game changer for sure.
We've had some great cool nights of Camping thanks to this set-up
We been using a portable AC for a couple of years in our tent. It works great!
It worked better than I expected. I have some new ideas I want to try out in the tent. Apparently there is an upgraded portable AC that has 2 vents that go out the door, and that one works better.
A/C camping in Texas, great idea.
I've lived in Texas all my life and gone to lakes and camped all my life.
People not from Texas or southwest don't understand in mid summer, central Texas it's about 10 degrees cooler than the sun. Usually no breeze at and after sunset.
Anyway to cool at night just makes life more tolerable.
Hope you misspoke on last comment, cooler with ducts and fan, you said dry ice. DO NOT use dry ice, produces carbon dioxide. Use regular ice, freeze packs or best block ice and frozen milk jugs. This does work. Styrofoam cooler, ducts to direct airflow, then good small fan blowing thru duct over ice / cold water. Homemade swamp cooler.
Yes, I mis spoke on the Dry ice situation, a friend who is an AC repair man corrected me on that.
Yeah putting the AC in the tent does ZERO during the day when the sun is blazing on that tent. But after the sun goes down, and it's 85 and muggy outside, this makes the inside of the tent dry and cool, so we can get a great night sleep.
Can I just say I love that I can count on you guys to give a real review! So many have said the small square one was fantastic and it just never looked like it put off much air let alone would be a fortune in just batteries alone.
I feel being honest is better than blowing bubbles up some sponsors......... Hello. I would like to have sponsors some day, but I plan to be picky choosy about who I accept offers from.
@@TexasFamilyCamping totally agree!
I used to spend a lot of time outdoors growing up in California. The Bay Area used to be a great place with plenty of places to go to. Still has a lot of those places, if you can get in and afford them (I now only visit family and friends there). So having gotten stationed in TX, we chose to stay and raise our family here. But summers suck, too damn hot and humid to enjoy. Your ideas on cooling down tents are very helpful. Hopefully I will be able to put them to use in the near future. Would like to be able to not have to depend on campsites for electricity, so the USB fan is a very interesting possibility. Worked with another traveling nurse who set up a "cooler" conditioner in his vehicle to sleep in in west Texas with some success. Good luck with your attempts. Perhaps a fairly high flow computer fan running off of USB for the "cooler" conditioner?
My son and I started tent camping in the Texas dead of winter. It was 24 degrees average temp. In Mexia We put space heaters in our tents. I have a 6 person instant tent with air mattress and dog crate. My son was in the 8 person with his granddads military issue mummy bag and the border collie. We had to get a smaller wattage heater because of power issues. Except for being frozen we had the best trip. 👍🏻🥰
Have you seen the Mr Buddy Heater? my wife loves that thing.
If you got a wife and 2 kids you do what ever to keep them cool and happy
Amen to that, you know what's up.
Just got back from Jellystone Water Park/ Camp grounds in Waller Tx. I brought along a 12,000 BTU AC unit to use in our ARB 2500 awning tent since it was forecasted to be 100/88 degrees on June 17-20. I've got to let yall know this worked out better that I thought it would during the day. the site was semi-shaded and our ARB awning acted as a barrier between the awning and top of the tent roof. Also I used 2 cheap 8×10 tarps velcroed to the awning frame and used retractable tent poles to extend shade as to keep the sun off the tents side walls...this also served as shade for a picnic table on one end and a shaded area for lounge chairs on the other. Ofcourse the ac did a great job keeping us cool at night but it was surprisingly stayed cool during the mid day (11-5)
the size of the room is 8×8 so its no wonder why it was able to do such a great job in such a small space. At times it was too cold and had to be raised. We also have a GFC rrt on our vehicle, and setup a small blower fan with exhaust tubing from inside the tent to the roof rack tent.....And it worked!
Wow I love your usage of this and the testing you did and the setup. Honestly if you put all this into your own video I would love to watch it.
48 degrees celcius in my tent today! I'd love to see that FB group laying down inside and enjoying it.
That sounds pretty miserable
Great Ideas with fans and A/C’s. Do what makes you comfortable nothing says you have to camp like cave men. You can be comfortable and get the camping experience. Great reviews and ideas. Stay safe friends 👏👏👏👏🇺🇸👍👍🥑
Thanks for the kind words and having our back. We appreciate y'all.
Been camping in Florida and actually brought a pedestal upright floor fan for the area where I sleep and a smaller fan that I put on the table in my "kitchen" area in 14 x 10 Ozark Trail tent. I also have come up with a canopy system using 3/4" EMT pipe and canopy fittings making what amounts to a framework of sorts and then laid a tarp over all of this and fastened it to the frame, I also left the rain fly off, an it definitely kept the heat from just beating down on the top of the tent and it actually helped at midday and definitely helped keep it nice at night
WOW, this whole things sounds really cool. Will you be putting a video out about it on UA-cam? If you do, come back here and leave a link so I can watch that.
Awesome 👏 love that you we’re able to put ac in a tent. Very very smart indeed. Thank you so much for sharing we loved it
This video is my "bread and butter," as it drives a lot of views to our channel.
you are right. We brought our portable a/c camping in the middle of summer but could not cool down the tent. However we also had a Lasko Blower and it felt amazing in the tent.
Did the AC help at night?
@@TexasFamilyCamping I actually just stayed with the Lasko the remainder of the time.
Yes the sun 🌞 does shine ✨ at night on the other side of the world 🌍🫣🫠🫤
True story
That will work As far as ac systems go
Figure it this way anywhere you have high humidity and 100 Degree temps ANd you can drop the temperature d0wn 20 degrees you are doing fabulous
We tested it at noon with the sun blazing in the high 90's. Totally pointless, you feel almost no effect. But once that sun gets about an hour from setting, crank it up, close off the tent, and you have a nice cool, dry place to sleep for the night, even if it's 82 all night with 100% humidity.
Watching all these cool vids makes me wanna go camping again !!
You should, It's a bit of work setting up, but being out away from the city is relaxing
Great video and ideas. Now I have to look for that USB ceiling fan.
That ceiling fan is pretty effective for it's size and the amount of power it uses. Thanks for watching.
Goliad, Texas is beautiful! It’s also a legendary place in Texas history. They even have a Whataburger to finish off your camping trip lol!
We spent some time reading about what happened in Goliad, sobering to say the least. The Texan gas station on highway 59 is worth the stop.
I'm from ohio we use heat and air, but I recently was told put a emergency blanket in the top of your tent it will keep you warm or cooler. I found I need two for my tent I put it between the mesh, and tent poles it holds it and I do see a difference try it ..
What an interesting idea. I do want to try this. Thanks
I have a 14000 BTU ac and it cooled out tent down from 100 to 73 in the summer in Oklahoma. we do have an air beam tent from Europe though so it doesn't have all the mesh that tents you get in America though.
Interesting, I need to look up the Air Beam tent
Ahhh our nemesis hot weather and camping in FL! Excited for our first camping trip of the season week of Thanksgiving! Am about to just buy a portable AC like we used before in hot weather because I miss camping!!!!
With Florida being more muggy than just plain hot, I think this setup would work well to dry out your tent for better sleeping at night.
First time viewing. You are funny. Thanks for information 😉🦋
Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching
I have that first tent fan/light combo. I changed the batteries from 2 D cells to One 18650 lithium Ion battery. The LED's are brighter and the fan is more powerful. I know I'm probably pushing the limits of it, but it's cheap.
That's my kind of science. Can you send me some links to the battery you put in? Do you have any videos? I'm very interested
I use a desktop fan with USB plugged to my Jackery and a frickin spray bottle filled with water. Sounds nutz but I woulda gotten heat stroke if I didn’t do something ... nights are tolerable without spray bottle.
I wonder how much Jackery I would need to run the AC... 🤔
@@TexasFamilyCamping Let’s ask the the same owl and hope we get the same answer he gave for “How many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?” (Twooo)
.....Now That would be affordable long-term, I think, if you’re an avid camper.
coming from camping this upcoming weekend on lake michigan, in the 90s all 5 days, i love it!! gives us a way to do it!!
Thanks for watching our video. Cooling during the day is tough, but cooling after the sun goes down, just need an AC. I know, they're a bit pricey, but, but, I'm saying, there's a chance, LOL. We appreciate you.
When you said "the sun don't shine at night" I subed lmao, that's my type of hunor
Thank you. I'm glad somebody gets me. We appreciate you joining our community.
I think using the ac in the tent is brilliant! I would totally do that. Just because your in a tent doesn't mean you should suffer from heat stroke. Just fyi, you can easily incorporate that portable ac into a cargo camper. That's what we use and it works great. We were camping on one of the hottest weekends last year. It was sunny with heat index over 100. We had the camper a comfortable 74 degrees. It was wonderful!
I know, I've watched the part where y'all put the AC in and how the vent is mounted to the floor, which I think is brilliant. Lot less exposure or drag on the trailer as you are driving. BRILLIANT I TELL YOU, LOL. Sorry I wasn't yelling at you, i was yelling with you. Thanks for stopping by.
@@TexasFamilyCamping Hey we camp in small spaces. We are allowed to yell and get excited about brilliant ideas LOL
Camped with my little guy last week at possum kingdom and is was about 100 degrees. They’ve gotta make something for us Texans to camp in the summer.
Its a challenge to be sure. I try to make sure there is some water for us to get into during the day when it's hot.
Great video ! gonna get one of those usb fans 👌
It was impressive. My wife, Tania is always finding useful things on Amazon I didn't even know about.
Sorry if you did this video already but you can do another A/C Video when your actually camping in the field, I guess we will have to wait till summer time now lol. This video was great thank you for the information
We used this on several trips. Most of the time when we are out camping I'm focused on filming the park that we stay at. And since we've bought an RV as well. I have heard there is a better AC to use in the tent, but it is a bit more costly that has 2 vent hoses that run outside. I'm really tempted to try that some day in the future. Probably not 2021, but maybe 2022. We use these AC's too cool the garage down. And they get double duty on the tent.
Love it!
Thank you
Great ideas
Thanks. The AC worked great to give a good nights sleep. It didn't do anything for the middle of the day though.
Just found you and subscribed. We have a motor home but like watching what you can come up with. :)
We want to try it all. We are currently in a travel trailer. We will still do some tent camping from time to time. I want to try hammocks, roof top tents, tear drops, Motor homes... hike up a mountain and camp.... all of it, LOL. Thanks for watching.
Can a Cabela's Outdoorsman Series 5,000W/4,000W RV-Ready Portable Generator push any type of portable air conditioner?? We like to camp off grid at lakes that have camp where ever you want. No electric no restrooms.
I would think so. I could handle an AC like this with 3500 watt generator. Hopefully you have an inverter generator, or that's going to be loud. And don't forget the 12 gauge extension cord. 16 gauge is garbage when handling these AC's
Breeze, much better word than blows lo…yes it is.
That's what I get for going into these videos unscripted, LOL.
@@TexasFamilyCamping but that's what makes them so good! :D
First time watcher, really like your video's man. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Nick, we really appreciate you watching.
I think it is a good idea. A/C in hot weather is not a snowflake it is common since. lol We would love to see you in a RV. Yes we had 1 AC before now we got 2. lol. Keeps it cooler. Nice share man. Very cool stuff. Like that pun. lol Thanks for sharing.
I LOVE that pun, thank you very much. We've got our eyes on an RV we like, and things are starting to line up. We will obviously share when we get closer.
I bought a tent a few years back and my husband has refused to take me camping we have two younger kids and the weather here in Louisiana is either scorching or freezing 🤦🏻♀️☠️ so I’m determined to find a way to comfortably go camping!!!
It's easier to stay warm then cool, so I recommend cool weather camping. We have a Buddy Heater with a 10 foot propane hose and a 20 pound propane tank we set outside the tent. Hose runs through the door. We can keep the inside nice and toasty. My wife loves that heater. There's also less bugs when it's cooler outside.
Just get a new man...lol 🤣😆
I have one of fan you take 8 battereds I put 6 battered I got a stfom ice chest put two bags ice in it. I lay the fan on top.it keep my tent cool. The battered I have last a long time.I have two of them each end of the tent.it keep my tent cool. I like it. I was going to use Dry ice in my tent to keep it cool I told I shouldnt. It get very hot in texas.only a Ceil fan going to do blow hot air..I'm close to El paso tx
I plan to try out some other methods of cooling like you've described. Thanks for the tips.
@@TexasFamilyCamping your welcome texan
The intro is hilarious 😂! Loved it :))) new subbie here !
Thank you, Trying new things to see if people will watch longer. I appreciate the feedback.
Any one who has kids can tell you its hard to get them out at all much less to go camping. This man is problem solving in my opinion. Happy Mom, happy kids, Dad scores some awesome family memories....innovation drives progress I say. With those against the idea I say ride a horse to work, or send someone a letter instead of an email....let's see how long you'd last getting by without those creature comforts.
I appreciate the kind words. It's tough to sleep at night when it's hot and muggy. I can hang out in the heat all day. But sleeping is tough.
I'm in San Antonio, TX and in the process of trying to do exactly this, but having issues.
My portable AC will only work when plugged straight into a suitable grounded wall socket. It can tell if there's even an extension cord in the way, and will just blow the fan and keep resetting. Thoughts?
It's important, I was just discharged from the hospital after 45 days from a GSW so need someplace to stay that's clean so I can heal... and it's 105 degrees outside!
First, this will not keep you cool during the day. The sun on the tent is just too much. As far as extension cords, you need a thicker gauge cord. They cost more, but you need it. I recommend a 12gauge extension cord, usually yellow.
I love you video. You crack me up!!! Blows/ breeze lol and I can’t believe a solar panel won’t work at night 🤣
Anyways I have a 16’ canvas tent and I’m going to use AC!!! Why suffer in heat I’m in NC and it gets hot and humid! Unfortunately the AC you have is unavailable but my question is do you think I need a 13,000 btu? I’m gonna try and run the exhaust hose out my jack that I have for my wood stove. Hope my plan works lol
I would think a 13,000 would work, just remember, it's useless while the sun is glaring down on the tent. When you get about an hour before sunset it should start being productive. Makes for a great night sleep. Make sure you have a good thick extension cord.
That's cool idea we need one of these
I had purchased it for the garage. And the idea just popped into my head, and it worked. Thanks for watching
Had to chuckle when you held fan upto camera to demonstrate the “blow”...couldn’t feel a thing 😂
LOL. I'm glad you saw the humor in the video. I tried, not every joke paid off though.
What if you don't have electricity at the camp site? What solar set up would I need???
If you are going to try to pull this off with solar, you will need a large battery pack to run it through the night. You are talking some serious money. I don't know if you are avoiding the campsites with electricity for cost, or just going to some beautiful places that don't offer electricity. I'd aim for getting a spot with electricity if you plan to do this.
Howdy...
Did you happen to do a follow up video with the AC until.
We live in Florida so very interested to see how this worked out for you.
Thanks
Well, we bought an RV last summer. And even that's not perfect, so I'm currently working on cooling the RV better when it's 100 something outside. I'm using the same exact Portable AC in the RV now.
I have an Ozark Trail 20 by 20 14 person 4 room tent Will the AC work in there to keep it nice and cool
Once the sun starts to set, yes. It will be worthless while the sun is glaring down on the tent, like 10am to 4pm
Great video! I was wondering what extension cord did you use to run power to the AC? Thank you.
I highly recommend paying a bit more for a 12 gauge cord. 50 foot cord is about $50, but it will save you on overheating and possibly catching fire.
How would you power the last ac unit if no access to power? I’m considering purchasing a power station but can be pricy. (Upwards to 500$ for a compatible one)
I only bring the AC if I reserved a spot with electricity. If you buy a power supply, make sure it can handle the watts and voltage of the AC
"what a dork" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Love the video.
LOL, thank you for letting me know I made you laugh.
I never comment on videos, but I'm very grateful for the effort you've put in to film your ideas for cooling off while camping during summer! Might need to invest in one of those stand up A/C units!
Keep up the positive mental attitude!
Thanks so much for leaving a comment, it really helps us little guys on UA-cam. I'm planning to do a hot video as well to help those that want to camp in the winter. Getting warm is much easier.
I like it whe. U hate..ac and tents are cool😁im wit u
It's useless in the day when it the sun is out, but at night, it helps get a cool night sleep.
Use the dual hose portable air conditioner and it won’t create low pressure in your tent and suck in the walls works great
Yup, I've read that since we did this. That's on my bucketlist now.
Love the cool episode bud! A lot of cool stuff! Damn it’s 100 degrees Yikes 😳
It was cooler this last weekend than it was when I filmed the video. Thanks for watching. Looking forward to your next episode.
I would think an insulated tent like they use in the snow would work in the opposite keeping the AC in
That probably would help a lot, however, that probably costs considerably more as well. I'm all about mastering staying cool in the summer. Maybe some day if our channel makes it big, I'll get a fancy tent to put it to the test. Thanks for watching.
I started taking a 10k btu window ac when we went tent camping so my sons guinea pigs wouldn't overheat. It's a pain to travel with, I'd like to get a portable at some point. There are no rules to camping imo so long as you're not disturbing the other campers
Exactly, no rules to camping, just don't disturb the others, I love it.
Can you show me where you mount hose to vent outside on a tent
I don't mount the house, I just run it outside the tent at the door. I wrap the hose in a spare towel, and then zip the tent door down on that. The vent just kind of sits on the ground then outside of the tent.
Blow? Breeze! 🤔🤣🤣🤣 The sun does shine at night, just not everywhere. 😁 You look hot! 🥵 These are awesome ideas for staying cool! Nice share snowflake! 🤔🤣🤣🤣🐢💖 Yeah, you look 🥵
I am so hot, LOL.
How many watts does that air conditioner use?
I don't know for sure. Doing some research now. Looks like it's over 1000 watts.
@@TexasFamilyCamping thank you
My paralyzed best friend can’t regulate her body heat. Fans in the tent were a light saver. We will have rv hookups from now on. If we had room in the car for an ac I’d have brought one.
Some people take things like that for granted. But there are some of us that want to get outside and are willing to make adjust to make it work. We are glad y'all are able to get out there.
The combo of ceiling fan and portable AC seem like it would be effective if you can keep your tent out of direct sunlight during the day with tree coverage or tarp.
Possibly with a lot of tree coverage. I do not think a tarp would be strong enough. Your comment makes me want to go run some more tests, LOL. We had a day here in Texas a week ago where it was 106, and I was changing oil on the truck in the garage. The ambient temp in the garage, out of the sun, was 104. At that point I don't think even shade can help. Thanks for watching.
@@TexasFamilyCamping I went camping in Central Texas last weekend. I have a fan, a homemade icechest "AC", and a portable ac. When packing the car there was not enough room for the portable ac. With the hurricane hitting it dropped the temp to 80s and not too bad humidity. We only needed a fan. Lol. I actually got cold in July and use a blanket! So next time you go camping in Texas in July go after a hurricane! Lol
Thank you for sharing
Hope it helps. It gave us a great night sleep.
I heard if you put a tarp over the top of your tent while using this it will cool down your tent a lot more during the day.
That sounds like a good tip, I'll have to give that a shot.
How did that ceiling fan work in the tent? Did it wobble all over the place?
It wasn't too bad
Did you end up buying a unit with two hoses? If so, can you post the link?
Not yet, I haven't
I prefer to camp in cooler weather. My body doesn't tolerate the heat like it used to. So, I hope I won't need a cooling system. If I did though, that a/c unit looks like the ticket. Thanks for the info! ~Lucy
Yeah I enjoy staying warm on a cold night a lot more. But Texas summers are Hot, and I am determined to camp, LOL. We appreciate y'all watching.
I thought of a AC in the tent before Cool to see that someone else thought of it
It was useless in the daytime, but made for a great night's sleep
@@TexasFamilyCamping for sure. Tents are like ovens
Gonna have to get this
We just used it again this last weekend. I tried it at noon and it wasn't effective at all. Then after 6pm we tried again and it's much more effective. It just can't handle the sun beating down on the tent. Thanks for watching, we appreciate you.
Texas Family Camping thanks for the info
I can't cool down a 10*7 tent with 8000BTU AC in Texas summer. All mesh covered by heavy duty tarp. Only half tent get some cool air.
during the day or at night? Our tent could completely zip up. I think that makes a big difference.
@@TexasFamilyCamping what tent do you use ? I learned that portable ac will creat low pressure in tent makes hot air keep flow in. Zipped tent might be a good point.

I may be doing a minivan set up and must have a/c for summer camping. I want to try the portable one (smaller) and it's good to know to leave the windows open some. Good video. Saw you on a live chat today. Maybe Roy's? Or Bob's?
Bob's.

how did u run the extension cord without flipping any breakers @ 14k btu
There's two factors to that story. It was fine, it needs a dedicated breaker and it's fine. The other issue, which I talk about in our safety video, is making sure to have a thick enough gauge extension cord. The first cord was too thin, and it actually melted, and did start tripping the breaker.
@@TexasFamilyCamping what gauge where you using thank you so much for the reply subbed and liked
@@TexasFamilyCamping i’m in wichita right now crazy how hot the next few days are gonna be, i have a 5k seems underpowered doesn’t suck the walls in like that in a much smaller tent
@@eatmedust I think it was a 16 or 18. Kind of a generic 100 foot long cord. I've since replaced it with a 12 gauge

I would LOVE a Jackery. Would help with so much.
Great info, Thank You For Sharing your findings
Hey, my pleasure. Thanks for watching our video, we appreciate you.
I am looking forward to camping this summer, but it will be hot and I have to tent camp as I cannot afford a camper at this time.... but.... I don't want that to keep me from camping so looking into a portable AC, I have a 6 person tent and it will just be two of us and our dogs.
A portable AC like we had will do great in a small tent like that, during the night. It's useless while the sun is beating straight down on you though.
@@TexasFamilyCamping I hope to camp in the summer, it is hard to even reserve a spot here in Florida, everything is booked up!
@@franciesjoy1269 here in Texas you can reserve 5 months out. And believe me, if you don't, you won't get it. Once you get your planning down you can start getting some nice spots.

What was that fan called?
Which one? The USB fan?
I wish u had tested it right then... but i love the waterfall forming off ur beard while talking about a/c and flow flake haters lol. Did it work in 100degree? To what temp and length of time?
It felt like the right time to talk about staying cool, when it's hot out. The AC doesn't work well in a tent when the sun is glaring down and it's 100. Maybe if it was a dry climate and in the shade. This is better suited for when the sun goes down, and it's humid and still 80 degrees. Then it will get the tent down to 60 something and nice and dry inside.
Can you link me to this portable AC product please? We are in Florida.
This one is called a RolliCool that we got off of Amazon.

I bought ours a year ago, and when I searched it out, they have an updated looks and some added new features. If you use the link I provided, it won't cost you any extra and they might toss a few pennies in my direction. Thanks for watching, we appreciate you.
Can you post that list of tent camping sites with electrical lol

Subbed.
Well thank you so much, we appreciate you.
Hello! I am just getting into tent camping & have a real problem w/heat (dizziness, migranes, even upset tummy!) What brand was that portable a/c? Thanks! 😊
This AC is a RolliCool, I got off of Amazon. For this purpose, the brand doesn't matter as much, you just need a "Portable Air Conditioner." You can get them at Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart and Sam's. And make sure that when you get a tent site it has 20 amp or 110 electric hookups. And don't forget, it's almost useless during the hottest parts of the day, noon to the evening. So make sure you have an activity or some place to go so you can cool off. We prefer a lake or river we can get wet when it's so hot. The AC is mostly effective at bed time for getting the humidity out and making it a comfortable cool temperature.
Texas Family Camping Thank you! I will check that out.

Just today I have hooked up our portable evaporative cooler aka swamp cooler in my 1972 9x12 canvas tent I inherited from my Dad. I'm in Colorado and humidity is rarely an issue here.

this is a good site to learn about portable AC's and swamp coolers. Mine is an older model Bonaire.
I'll update and let y'all know how it's working.
Camp with a Prius Prime....wont need electricity
Does a Prius Prime tell the other Toyota's to transform, and roll out?
Loving the intro and bumper video. That fan is brilliant. Wait! I thought we were your fans? 😂 No blow. 😂 Sub blow, is a dud. 😂 Now, the new one really blows! You are so much fun! You are not a dork, Captain Obvious, you are just being funny. AC in a tent? What? Then call us all Snowflakes! That is brilliant. By the way, I tried to search for the USB 17" Ceiling Fan and could only find 110 and a 19" DC but not a USB can you share the link to it? This was a great video. Thank you so much for sharing this. ❤️👍👏 Donovan & Jodi

Can anyone help me please. I have a portable ac I wanna take to our camp soon, but I don't know how to connect it to a 30amp connection that is available where we are going.
Thanks!
Most campsites we've been to that show 30 amp hookups also have 2 of the typical 110 or what you're used to in your house. I'd be surprised to find a campsite that did not. If it absolutely does not, at Camping World they have adapters to adjust from 30 amp down to the normal 3 prong plug. What is the campsite where you will be using this, I can check to see if they do have the normal plug.
@@TexasFamilyCamping thank you for your kind reply, ill be going to point lookout in Maryland.
@@pamelacardona8022 I found a campground review for Point Lookout in Maryland and it says that the campsites have 30, 20 amp and 15 amp. Those lower numbers indicate the normal plugins like in your house.
@@TexasFamilyCamping the spot I reserved says it has a 30amp connection, I am no electrician but I assume 30amp is not the same as 110v?? 🤔😅

Are you referring to me? Or the German Shepherd? 😂
I'm all for ACs in tents. Campers have ACs. If you can afford it & have a power source might as well.
I'm a whistleblower investigator blasting Epsteins Cronies the Cuomo brothers. Their Vermont partners in crime are making sure I don't have work comp cancer care or victims services (sequesteration) in a hotel. So, I am living in a tent in a park. I have a little USB fan. We have very mild summers. It's usually back in the 60s at night.
That said, you could insulate your tent with reflectix and moving blankets. That's how I keep warm in -40° wind chills. It would probably work for AC too. Put grommets in the moving blankets so they can hung up against the tent walls. The shape of the tent is going to be the determining factor for how you keep your insulation in place.
Those are some great ideas for insulation in the tent.
Tried to suck the TENT in on itself... I could see that LOL
I was a little freaked out when that first happened, LOL.
