How A Professional Carves Faux Limestone On Houses
It's important to add waterproofing. That way all the moisture stays inside the stone wall and ensures that the house slowly rots from the inside. This is standard building practice in the UK.
This made me laugh more than it should have
there are impregnations my dude that dont let water in but let vapour out
@@xxtoxii9615 Theoretically true, but by the time several layers of waterproofing materials have been added, often in the form of plasticized paints on top of the render, not much vapour is getting out.
Do what?
@@xxtoxii9615 what who fucked the wall
If the scrapper was double ended with different sizes. It would look even better. Mortar on old buildings is never even in size.
The whole thing reminds me of this palm tree radio antennas
It’s one of those fads where it looks nice from far away, but as you get closer it starts to look progressively worse.
It’s sooo tacky
Looks like crap. Those joints are huge.
Like 5 minute craft anything.
Yeah just like gentrified white people houses in america.
Exactly. My late father used to adhere fake brick cladding onto weatherboard homes back in the 70’s. Looked so tacky and these days I still see some evidence of such relics and they look atrocious.
Different line thicknesses would bring a lot of improvement on this design process, and make it look much more natural & rustic. It's quite strange and synthetic having the lines all the same thickness. Natural stone housing would not give those neat same width lines, it will be a mix.
@Nora Nora it says 'they carve the hardened plaster' took me a second too to realize they werent doing it in 3 hours
Time may be limited but the wall is permanent. I agree that variation would be a huge improvement. Perhaps a few different tools. That wouldn’t slow down the process much.
0:21 this wall looks rather nice. The thick lines to me look like a consistent width of mortar in between each "rock" if u will.
It would be awesome if the grout lines weren't so fudgin big. I admire the the developer of the process but this looks like the same stuff Disney tries to sell me
Exactly
It looks good from a far.
@@timetravela890 so does yo momma!
@@spidertickles9710 🤣
That width of mortar is actually pretty common for old stone houses where I grew up. They were made with a bunch of wonky-shaped field stone that isn't in any way uniform, so to get a smooth-ish wall they used a LOT of mortar. They largely used local sandstone instead of limestone, but it's the same basic idea.
How many minutes does it take to become a professional?
about 3 bricks in. My 4 year old became a professional just watching this
Ouch!
pmsl
2:47 that is a very specific clip to show
I used to do this in math class when I was bored
I was just thinking this dude just listen to music and doodles lines all day I'm sure there's more to it than that but seems like a pretty chill job
So you're now either a peasant or CEO.
@@mrafitzy17 its basically rendering. Its hard work.
what
You were born to be a faux limestone wall maker.
It’s just looks bloody awful mate.
It’s fake so it look ugly as heck
Used to do exactly this for a living it sucks and is only really suitable for warm climates or else the freezing and thawing during winter can mess it up eventually. It can be hard to get consistent coloring on the whole house unless you do it all at once.
Also I would have been chewed out if I carved my stone like this video, the mortar joints are really large and many stones look exactly the same, are too small, or don't break up joints properly.
How often does the carving tool need to be sharpened?
@@2degucitas I'm not sure about other companies but we just straight up bought like cheapish pottery carving tools and when they got bad u bought new ones.
Yeah, I was thinking "this guy's kinda doing this lazily" and then I read your comment...
Is it durable? Because they said that it was carved after it's dry and it seemed really flimsy and easy to be ruined
@@annalima7166 I think it's carved before it cures completely.
The finished walls at the end are nice. I like that they did something to have an aged/discolored effect like real stone.
But they’re totally flat it looks like a child did it
@@KCJbomberFTW so what. If he likes it he likes it
D… do y’all know that this stuff hardens when it dries and he’s working on it while it’s wet ?
Is he?
I can't tell if your asking or making a statement lol
Im curious to know if he is carving before it hardens
1:53 next he uses a carving tool to cut into the hardened plaster.
@aa b what about a hella windy day and it just gets destroyed by the tree dropping sticks... I'm sus
It's stucco, gets like cement when it fully dries. He's carving while it's partially wet.
@aa b 😂😂😂
Is it just me or do the lines seem too thick?
Yes they should be more 10-15mm in my opinion not 30-40mm.
“adem has mastered how to do it freehand” did he really tho???
About as well as you've mastered the art of keyboard troll. Have a good day
@@jasontokio1591 so none at all? Ok thanks for the answer

How can anyone think this looks good?

Anthropologists 200 years from now are going to be very confused.
Don't worry, it's not gonna last that long!
I love the way it crumbles. I wanna squish the crumbles in my hands.
Maybe I missed something, but what stops the wall from being ruined the moment someone leans against it or something hits it? Waterproofing it can't possibly be enough, right?
I was wondering the same
I think I might really like being a wall sculptor. I bet there is something zen about it.
I go to a university famous for our limestone architecture, which only makes this hate crime against houses even more hideous to me
I'm not a troll. Just love what you're doing here. I'm assuming your going for 100% authentic? If you're interested, I've got a critique for ya? Slightly smaller mortar (grout) lines. Have you tried? Or are these walls you've shown us here client requests? Clients _are_ our boss, I understand that too. In case you didn't know, real mortar erodes due to the weather. Sun, water, wind, snow blah blah. LoL! The less you have to maintain the less damages can ensue. Damages requiring very expensive repairs. Have you had your walls endure 4 seasons yet? How do they hold up so far? Are they maintained just like stucco?
You're SO amazingly talented. Keep up the great work.💕 Cheers!🍻
“I’m not a troll” made me chuckle 😊
That's what all trolls say
jk
@@tyesoncollins331 That's good. Remember, _always_ go for the laugh... at first. LoL!
my dude im a restaurator. nowdays people use ipregnanations to combat weather, waterproof while not vapor proof so a house can breathe. i live in croatia, bunch of weather problems including salt from air and ground. its not 1920s anymore
@@xxtoxii9615 I understand that, BUT if you're going for the LOOK of the old stone walls, why not do it yo LOOK right?
I live in a very old city that has a ton of old limestone buildings and this doesn't look anything like them. However, I do really like the look of this as well.
I'm no artist but I feel like I could easily do this... is this professional? Smaller lines maybe? I'm not the pro.
This is trash
Anyone could do this
You can literally see that it's not done with love and true creativity.
It like a lazy doodle
The thumbnail lowkey made me think this was a Longbeachgriffy skit 😂
I feel like this would last about a year and then need to be redone.
I kept waiting for it to look good... But it just... Never did....
From far away this looks amazing
That’s amazing and it looks great too. 👍🏽
It's a no from me.
What a wonderful satisfaction and excitement in the mind of the one who carves that
This guy has the easiest job in the world
1:52 looks groovy, as do 1:58, 2:27.
Also, this was suggested to me an hour after my husband and i discussed pricing for retaining wall makeover fora design client's project. I'd appreciate if google would kindly stop illegally eavesdropping.
Ur telling me this....I can't tell.u the number of times I have thought about something, not mentioned it to anyone, just in my head and the same ads start showing up in an hour or the next day, without me ever having run a Google search on it!!!!
The mortar lines look way too thick.
And the 'stones' too small..
I really like this; adds character to an otherwise boring facad. Wonder If I could pull that off on my stucco house in Phoenix?
A real limestone house doesn't look like that. I live in Europe and we've got plenty of old limestones here. This looks like someone doodled a limestone-design. But it's not even close to s real limestone house...🤦🏼♀️
American culture in a nutshell: fake everything
@@sega64official how is it fake? It's quite literally a design that was achieved through a certain method.
@@sega64official He is a Turk from France though. Nothing about America.
@@thekraken1173 I'm just saying it's a popular thing to do where I live. I see stuff like this on the exterior if trailer houses and neighborhoods often and it looks incredibly tacky.
Looks like children drew it with chalk. Horrible.
That was amazing to watch.
Amazing work learned something new today
WOW! This is pretty cool.
What a talent. Great to watch.
i can do that. hell every kid used to do this doodle lol
I’m sorry but it looks so fake I don’t like it 😔
Great question, helpful answers.

Great job for the guys who like doodling

"Nobody's gonna know, they're gonna know...."
Seems fun and meditative. Could probably listen to some podcasts while you're at it.
Yabba-Dabba-Doo.
Looks great!
It's extremely satisfying
This looks fun
This is crazy! It looks so nice. As everyone asks, how durable is it? It looks like a tree branch could scrape it and ruin the design. Surely the waterproofing would make the surface less permeable, not harder?
this is done during curing, you can draw in this the same way you can into curing cement.
@@butwait the video says he carves after it’s hardened. I’ll just refer you to 1:54
@@XERXESDOE the video is wrong, it happens
Correct, a tree or vandal could easily damage it. It's just foam. Ever met a foam that you couldn't damage?
Thats really clever
My question is how do you prevent the wall from chipping etc afterwards if it's that easy to carve out
This is fantastic, I want to do this
Omg I love this ❤
Someone has to I guess.
2:42 he snuck that one in there 😂
Mind blown for a second.
I love it!
Great work ..... but i think that the vertical line at the edge off the wall should not be there. Because when laying rocks or brick it is obvious that the wall edges are those of the rock or brick and not the filling material in between.
Love it!
Interesting and cool to watch...
Its all fun and games until the hail comes pouring down
Really needs some protection for his lungs
You are wrong.
Plaster is wet and there is no dust produced.
2:51 Bro turned a Huck Finn's Warehouse into a Monastery 😂😂
Would be nice in which Country and or State he is Located. Great work!!
Very cool.
I’ve been so stressed today watching this video relaxed me
Nice!
This is for people who want to love in a fake Disney castle for some reason
When you're standing out in the stree it looks good, wouldn't know it to look at it , but get close ,you need more detail seams ,cracks , like in real rock .
Mortar spaces are the give away at distance. There is no way in hell any Mason is allowing for 2-5 inches of mortar between stones. Looks like garbage no matter how far away you are.
Like a woman with too much plastic surgery.
Or a convincing trans.
Under closer inspection...
Super random and satisfying
That looks easy no cap they get payed good I would think
Also it will be scrape off easily right?
Graffiti artists are gonna have a ball with it .
If I were to do this my house would be covered in what happens at 2:47
I've never before seen such talent require no real talent...
What is this stuff and where can you buy it?
Lol at 2:45. 😂 Sorry, I have a dirty mind.
Nice
He makes it look easy. Nice talent.
Maybe because it is easy and requires no talent.
Nice .i can do that too ..
How a professional does fake lime stone, you mean how anyone who's told to scrape bricks into fake rock does it? This isn't hard nor professional.
😍😍
What is Keegan-Michael Key doing carving people's walls?
So satisfying to watch!
Won't the rest of the plaster be broken off over time by rain etc?? Would of though it would need a clear coat to seal everything!!
If this stuff is that easy to carve then anyone with tools can walk up to buildings that have it and mess up the design if they wanted to.
It hardens though....
@@sabinesteil4690
What you see is the hardened stage.
At 1:56 it even says "next, he uses a carving tool to cut into the hardened plaster"
@CantOutRunADuck
Yea but this stuff is much easier to mess up though. It would only take seconds. You could carve graffiti into it
The wind and rain in the uk would have that off in no time.
This reminds me of the castle on that movie Man With Two Brains!!!
Too 😎 cool

Y’all: it’s still wet! It’ll harden
