Nice video Alex, good to see some of those ex-Roskill Scania’s.. I miss the 2200 ones the most. The new livery isn’t all that bad, only oddity is the yellow surrounds of tail lamp section. A clean cut line/section would look better I think :)
We won't be keeping any of them in Wellington (we're losing the Valley Flyer ones too). You may not get them all back, as current rumor is that the majority of the 2200's may go to Tauranga.
The_ALEX_ELLIS_Channel Hi Alex, I felt they may never return.. taking them to Tauranga would be the logical thing to do. Haha some drivers have spoke of transferring already :)
Mana will be retaining what's left of theirs, and Tranzurban have 28 new Scania's on order from Kiwi Bus Builders....two of which will be masterton based, the rest in Wellington (and maybe Hutt?)
What's with the blue livery on some of those buses? Is it an in-between livery to get people used to the unified livery like AT did or just another livery for GoWellington?
Those buses were brought down from Auckland to replace the Trolleybuses when they got withdrawn in 2017. The Scania's have now all been painted into Metlink colours and had their interior's refurbished. The Ex. Auckland ADL's and MAN's have now been withdrawn, with the MAN's sold and ADL's transferred elsewhere (though a couple did stay and get painted into Metlink livery).
Presenting Metlink's unified bus livery, also known as "vomitron green" by some people :) As odd as the colour choice was, I will probably miss the purple (and the occasional orange stripe) of the buses in the Hutt. The idea of a unified livery is interesting (personally not my cup of tea, but I understand why they are doing it) but this one seems a little weird. Yellow front of the bus for visibility reasons is fine with me, but when you go around to the side it just stops suddenly and goes into green and blue. The rear does look odd, as James has mentioned, but I don't think they should've even put yellow on the rear. If you can't see the bright green bus with LED lights at the rear, you may need to get your eyes checked, or as the ad says, "Should've gone to Specsavers!" :)
I don't see why everyone thinks the choice is odd. The livery is supposed to be a "Metlink Brand", and the green & blue are the colours of the Metlink logo. Makes perfect sense to me. They could not have used the blue as a base colour, because it would clash with AT Metro. As for the yellow front issue, I plan to make a video (eventually) discussing the livery.
I think that livery (like the sudden change from the stagecoach stripes to valley flyer purple for example) will take a while for everyone to get used to. Around a year or so from the change and people probably won't care about the livery. Going back many a moons I remember when Infratil brought Stagecoach's operations and freshly repainted purple 11.190's just seemed weird, childish and silly compared to a simplistic white with red-orange-blue stripes. Nowadays I think people have just got used to it (still an interesting colour choice though!). It'll be an acquired taste that livery but people will soon get used to it
It is a camera effect, which affects a lot of people. Cameras just don't like LED Dot-Matrix's sometimes. I occasionally have the same problem when filming lifts that have a dot-matrix floor indicator.
It hurts my brain to wonder why Red Bus never put A/C on their MAN 18.280's, the 17.223's I understand, it was new back then, but those 18.280's look naked without them. It's the same with the Mana Scania & Volvos, thankfully Ritchies put one on 1250. It just looks wrong, and windows don't work in summer, its too hot.
Watching bits of it, not a big fan of the new livery tbh. Nice to see some Tranzit busses In along with the different coloured Alexander Dennis and MAN busses too! Would be nice to see some double deckers come through here in July as well.
A massive cruise ship (Noordam) was in while I filmed this, which is why there are so many Tranzit coaches in this video. It's also why the Electric bus was there too!
There was no point in re-painting them becuase within a year of the trolleybus withdrawal, the new Metlink livery would takeover. Furthermore, the majority of these buses will not be retained in Wellington, and once more new vehicles or converted trolleys enter service, these will be returned to Auckland. It's also worth pointing out that these buses were "transferred" not "bought" as they came from the Auckland operations of the same company, NZBus.
Im loving the rear ads on the back of most of these buses

The_ALEX_ELLIS_Channel that is a shame losing the valley flyer ones too, now they gone I realise they were bloody good buses to drive!

Good to hear Scania's will still be on the roads, which model has Tranzurban ordered?

Its sad, when most of video recomendations are welington trolleybuses, but none are here...
Why are the destos flashing on and off? Is it a video camera effect, or were they all malfunctioning at once?

Why is there a at metro
Bus as a Go Wellington bus
Because they got removed from Auckland and have been paint into the tranubaan colours.

There will definitely be another spotting video once the contracts change! Meanwhile, my next one will be Johnsonville.

The different colour combos on the Go Wellington fleet suggest many were bought in a panic buying mode to meet the Trolleybus cessation date. Awful !
