It's absolutely true. It's easier to fast than to try to just eat a little bit. I skip dinner most days because I'm an after dinner snacker so problem solved. I don't understand why so many fasting proponents advise skipping breakfast instead of skipping dinner.
Yes, skipping dinner is better for digestion and sleep as we age. I've always skipped dinner in IF and it's worked well for 4 yrs. Much rather have breakfast !
Depends on the family dynamic. I was raised where dinner is very important family time where everyone shares what happened to them during the day and bonds. In the mornings, no one bats an eye when you are groggy and only drink a few cups of black coffee before work lol.
Skipping breakfast is better. Because when you wake up, you're already in fast almost 10 or 12 hours. By skipping breakfast you can easily extend your fasting to 15 hours. Plus, you can reach to 18 or 20 hours by skipping lunch as well. Have only dinner and you can be super healthy
My take-aways are: - Don‘t start. It is easier to fast than to eat just a little bit. - Sweets make you hungry. - Reduce the number of decisions you habe to make: Eat a Salat for lunch every day.
After one year of watching nutrition videos over 500 of them easily, Dr. Becky is the best of all. Her information and her calm delivery grabs your brain to focus and get smarter for 5 to 10 minutes non stop.
I know this is true. As soon as I start eating, I find it hard to stop. My challenge is to change from grazing to eating larger meals and to stop snacking in-between meals. I've learned how bad snacking is but it's hard to break this lifelong habit.
You can do it! The first bite is the easiest to resist 👍 After a few days you will be amazed at how much more in control you feel and how much healthier
My strategy is to take a sip of water every time I want to take the 1st bite. Helps me hit my minimum 2 liters of water a day goal and avoid snacking lol
My wife still fails to understand that I’m ok not eating especially when we are someplace that has nothing I want. Like at the ballpark where I’m not paying 14 bucks for a burger patty. It’s awesome not being hungry anymore since I gave up junk and carbs over 3 years ago.
Thank you! I feel related to this! This is my third time indulging in few days, I can see how food and sugar addiction begins. It's making me lose my strength mentally and physically. I feel it affecting me really bad. Tomorrow, I promise to not cause this kind of harm to my body, because I need it to get me through life! I hope I find the good spirit and energy in within. I'll continue my life, progress, read, learn, do my duty and find ways to push myself, I feel like I am losing my grip on my own life and commitments. Life is cruel. I hope I don't lose my life. I hope I help myself eventually. I hope I recover from all this tomorrow morning and get my life back! :)
Dr Becky. Sometimes during a stressful event, these issues of overeating can creep in. This video is very helpful. Well wishes for you & your family from Canada 🙋🏻♀️
I can 100% confirm all of these tips. I discovered them as I went from a yo-yo dieter to healthy eater - and I've lost and kept off 50 pounds. And there isn't anything I didn't/don't eat, I just follow these tips and a few more.
Great vid. My downfall is potlucks or "free" food at work. Yesterday, I passed a jar of candy in 2 places at my work and did not reach in. Progress, not perfection, right? I have been on (and off) keto/low-carb for years and after several 1-day binges (emotional eating after a loss), I'm back on. I will be going to a potluck in a month; I'm bringing deviled eggs and a cheese tray. I'm hoping to stay away from carbs that day and show myself that I can do it. I would avoid the potluck, but I'm a guest speaker, so no out for this one. Fingers crossed! Thank you Dr. G. You're fabulous!

Dr. Gillaspy…thank you for all you do for us. Stay brilliant! One question please. I see other speakers warning about the toxins in eating salads with some of the incorporated items you mentioned. May I have your thoughts?
Dr. Becky mentioned that it's actually better to fast in between meals and 'ride out your hunger' than to grab a snack... is this true for ALL snacking or just for unhealthy snacking? In other words, if you grab a small healthy snack like a handful of grapes or some almonds, would that be a decent thing to do to hold yourself off until your next meal, or should you skip even these kinds of snacks altogether and wait it out until the next meal?
you are very right I struggle with being consistent on making the right food choices however, like you said, it is easy to fast. I am very happy that I am able to adjust easily since I really want to lose weight
Many of us that were active in sports are programed to eat a lot to keep weight up. When we quit sports we tend to stay on the high calorie diet because the mind has been trained to eat a lot. Some times we eat a lot even if we're not hungry.
As we age, I think that decision fatigue hits earlier and earlier...unless you are doing something you enjoy on your time. Anyway, great information. One other important thing...get good quality sleep. Fat gets burned during sleep.
Thank you Dr. Becky! I love your detailed, well researched yet easy to understand explanations. So much so that just yesterday I purchased your audio program…and love it. I wish these things were not available to me but...I live with 2 adults that do not eat a ketogenic diet. I feel like a failure. I'm sure I am no longer in Ketosis.
