I am a member to the insider club but i live in jacksonville fl i fish mainly st johns river and mayport. My biggest problem is people dont want to network i guess they are afraid of everyone trying to go fish their spots but when you ask for advice of creeks and things people are super secretive.

I pretty much always bring 3 rods. I got a smaller 2500 reel with a medium fast rod for throwing jigs and bottom lures, a baitcaster on a medium mod fast rod for throwing suspended baits and a 4000 size reel on a medium heavy rod for live bait, heavier jigs (typically for half ounce) or top water

I just happened to catch this episode and I'm happy that I did. On the subject of Wade fishing, I live in Indialantic Florida which puts me right in between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River. As we all know the Indian River is a fishing destination for those in search of Munster reds and trout as well as flounder Sheepshead and Snook. 90% of the time I wade fish. I constantly see boats with fishermen casting in towards the shore, well guess what? I'm already here LOL boats are great don't get me wrong, I just don't think I was made to own one. I can literally go out my door and have a line in the water in about 15 minutes, and when I'm done fishing I take the rod and reel put it back in my car and I'm done. As I'm sure you guys know most of the year you can Wade with just an old pair of tennis shoes in Florida. I have actually considered getting a kayak, but there are so many points of access to the river and great fishing spots under the causeways, many with walkways that I can basically fish anywhere I want on foot. Once again I'm not beating up on boats, they allow you access to numerous points in a short span of time, and in many cases allow you to get to places that you cannot get to on foot, but for me Wade fishing works just fine and it's a decent way to stay relatively cool when it's a hundred degrees out in August. Besides that all the money I would have spent on a boat , gas insurance Etc has allowed me to buy myself some really nice rods and reels. As far as keeping the load light and being specifically honed in on a couple of methods, I mainly use top Waters and paddle tails... Thanks for all that you guys do I've learned quite a bit from you videos

I’m a wade fishing fan as well. You can’t beat it! I have a paddle board to help me get to hard to reach places. When I get to the spot I jump off and do my thing. I tether it to my belt and it carry extra stuff if need be. it doesn’t hurt to have it for the transportation part of fishing. I definitely like the simplicity of wading too. It makes it so much fun

@@Saltstrong you guys are awesome taught me a lot. I fish fresh water an the things you taught me can be applicable to fresh water. Except for certain baits. Certain forage simply are just not found in ponds or lakes. I've been guilty buying all these fancy baits. I know the general areas where fish go during different seasons an climate changes. I'd go an catch absolutely nothing because simply the fish didn't want this forage. I know fish were the because there is spots that go quickly from shallow to deep. There is shaded spots an good forage current structure an current. Current being important to more oxygen an food into areas. I fish from mid June til late October to develop my skill on a square bill an a jerk bait if I get bites or no bites I'll just use the max of 3 casts per spot. I’m making slow progress though, I went from having a birds nest every trip to now just struggling to tie knots proficiently and quickly, and I recently had an issue where I’m assuming I had too less of line cause all of a sudden this trip my line wouldn’t cast more than 20 yards. Very frustrating lol never a battle with finding fish and always a battle with tackle and fishing line or breaks or knots 😊

@Salt Strong I can also agree about getting mad about people getting to your spots. The most casts we should ever do for 1 spot is 3 casts max. One cast straight left then right. No particular order. After you fish fast vary your pauses to get a scared baitfish running for covor to get a reaction strike. Once fish it's lure or soft plastic stop lure a couple seconds an finess the lure. Work lure or soft plastic 1 to 2 seconds fast after fish bites it 1 second fast 1 to 2 seconds moderate 2 seconds is best so fish catch it. As fish bites very lightly hit butt of rod 2 times fish will bite down hard. Then reel an lower rod drop stop once parallel count to 5 then set the hook. Sometimes when going back where fish struck lure he won't be there. Pause once the fish hits lure or soft plastic then vary retrieve after a few second pause fast 1 second then moderate so fish will get lure. I made mistake after I spotted where fish were when I went back to spot to catch fish it was gone. That's why it's important to pause so fish bites lure.

I have to disagree on cast of lures to a specific spot. During cold fronts repeatedly casting to a single spot can have an aggravated effect on a fish. They hit out of anger or defensive not to eat . I won a club tournament where i had to cast nearly 15 minutes on each laydown to get a strike.

One reel crank as fast as you can then pause one to 2 seconds pause then repeat 1 reel crank super fast an 1 to 2 seconds pause. Can do this fast an 1 to seconds pause 3 to 4 times imitates a scared creature or bait fish. Start pause 3 to 5 seconds in between retrieve then 5 to 8 seconds when you pause again then one to 2 seconds pause. Mixing up pause retrieve can go fast one second pause 2 seconds fast retrieve again pause one to 2 seconds then one more time fast reel turn for one second pause 1 to 2 seconds. Adding a pause between one to 2 seconds fast retrieve emediately followed by a 1 second moderate slow retrieve as well. To be more specific with mixing up retrieve an pause. Occasionally add a really fast reel turn pause one second an do again. Can even use really fast reel turn an one second pause for 3 to 4 seconds so it looks like a scared baitfish or creature a fish will eat. Never use cookie cutter retrieve an pauses doesn't give a very realistic presentation of creature or baitfish fish eat.

Signed up and paid to join Salt Strong but am not able to access anything. Very disappointed. Not sure this is a real program or a scam.

I'm stubborn and keep fishing the same three dead zones all year long - for convenience.

It’s cause why make your life hard. ??? All of anglers would rather make it easier on ourselfs and I don’t blame ya man. It takes a lot of time and preparation trying to get the kayak ready and strapped down properly on the car tben getting everything out and making sure you have certain thjngs then going all the way out there just to realize the wind randomly changed and is blowing super hard. You don’t know how many days I’ve wanted to take my kayak out but if I go fishing from shore a lot and it’s already difficult from the wind , then I couldn’t imagine a kayak . This year in my opinion in Corpus Christi tx , has been beyond terrible as far as winds. And the days that it is calm, I’ve went in the kayak and either had to deal with tackle problems with my lures snagging the bottom or me paddling all the way to a certain area to find 6 idiots all huddled close by with their lines in the area. It gets really annoying . Like 6 people in a area is so dumb . And lately I’ve had where I go super early in the morning to a spot . I get there , set up perfectly, have my own space . Then a jackass comes up on foot in the next hour and literally goes within 50 ft of fishing next to me . I mean I’m about to start taking action on people that do this . All the preparation I’ve laid out the night prior for that to happen . Anyways . Hey it’s fishin , never was meant to be easy .

i like that idea of exploring new areas Luke. i do use maps (thank you Salt Strong) for this myself, grab my bicycle then i find trails that go to these areas (St Petersburg is a perfect place to start this) and i have found many spots i am looking forward to revisiting without my bicycle and with my TFO inshore and some slam shady paddletail 2.0's for the win :)
