Simple Melody Hack - Repeat a Note ♩♩

  • One of the absolute easiest ways to add some forward motion to a simple melody is to repeat some of the notes. If you have a quarter note, turn it into 2 eighth notes. If you have a whole note, turn it into a syncopated rhythm. Adding repeated notes to a simple melody (especially from a lead sheet) is the easiest way to add movement to that melody.

      I play the P. Mauriat 67RX Influence, and love it! I recommend trying a bunch of different saxophones and seeing which one fits you the best.

    Respectfully, why does your alto always sound buzzy? Your tenor doesn’t.

      I have a really high baffle mouthpiece on my alto, which projects a lot more and has more high end to it. It's great for cutting through when playing with a band, especially in a modern setting. I've actually thought about finding an alto mp with a little less cut, for my tutorial videos (especially when playing in a jazz style).
