E39 M5 & E9x M3 V8 sound comparison | S65 vs S62 exhausts!

- When I did the E39 VS E60 M5 sound comparison video, someone commented saying it would make more sense to have done it between the E9x having a V8 instead of a V10. So here it is.
This was tricky to make as different exhaust setups I’ve made videos of have different tones, so I had to use clips from different friends with E9x to match my E39 clips. The revs between the black E39 and the black E90 are both catless, as well as the black E92 fly by. The revs between the gray E39 and blue E92 have stock cats and are both fitted with fairly quiet aftermarket mufflers.
The black E39 belonged to Alex Arias who has since sold it to Alex from Legit Street Cars (and then sold again).
The black E90 belongs to Daniel @danielshmov
The black E92 belongs to Charlie @wiley_creative
Let me know if you want to see a video comparison of both supercharged S65 VS S62!
S62 sounds more deep and muscular
But irl is weaker lop
They’re both phenomenal!
ça je suis bien d accord ce bruit caracterisque que font les ancienne s y a pas a dire 🎉🎉🎉🎉r
Not original exhaust
Both V8 engines are wonderful. The S65 does it for me. It sounds so sweet when it goes up the rev range.
What a beautiful way to start the day. Listening to these absolute monsters roar against each other. Great video!
Thank you!
Thank you, guys!
I needed it
A compilation of two craziest naturally aspirated V8 which can do me 🤤
It's badass
Both sound pretty much perfect in their own way. imo you can’t beat an engine that screams to over 8K but I totally understand why someone would prefer the S62.
great sounds from both engines, great work from you Alex to make the clip
Thanks Greg!
@@AlexGray you’re welcome, it’s the truth
love seeing that dash with almost 400k miles
After owning both, I have to say the m5 sounds better. I've had straight piped and Dinan on my m5s. The m3 has an evolve xpipe but doesn't sound as good as either m5. But absolutely love the sound from both platforms
It’s a tough choice for me especially since I’ve never owned an E39 M5 but having owned the M3, I’ll say they do sound more exotic (if fitted with test pipes) but the M5 sounds a little deeper and more aggressive, like an old school V8.

I have a friend who is now selling an E39 M5. He wants to exchange it for a newer M model. He found a pre-redesign 2008 E90 M3. He gave up the E60 M5 because it is unreliable. Do you think the E90 M3 with a manual transmission would be a good replacement for the E39 M5?
@@mislavkonjik2827That would be an excellent replacement, they’re a little lighter and still have the simple/analog feel and not overly complicated interior. But he will definitely miss the torque of the e39. The S65 in the E90 feels a lot slower down low until you’re in higher rev range. Also mine ended up being very unreliable so it’s important he gets one that was well taken care of and has it inspected.

Which car you prefer?
E46 M3 or E63 M6?
Ignore the looks. I want you to answer me objectively which BMW is better in your opinion
S62 sounds eerily similar to a 5.2 Voodoo from a GT350. I prefer the S65, but the S62 is amazing in its own right.
Tuff One they both sound equally amazing
Id take an e39 m5 over an e92 4 door m3 IMO. But the coupe e92 is definitely one of the finer packages BMW has offered in a good while.
The both sound mesmerising!
I think the correct answer is they are both perfect
Wish M cars still sounded like this ; cool vid bro
Me too. Thanks man!
OMFG, that S62 just gave me a trousergasm
That S62 just sounds more pure.
S62 is the best!!!
M5 e39 best sound ever
Two sounds beautiful 👌🏻
I just realized, ls7 sounds kinda similar to s62. they both have that muscley old race car growl.
This is just lovely.
Personally i prefer the s62 in a lot of ways. Especially that sound is so much more complete to my ears because of the wider used revrange when driving because of the higher torque.
A full complete video💯
Both sound great though I give the edge just to the S65 but then I have just bought an E92 M3. Can't beat the sound of an S65 at high rpm but I can understand why some prefer the deeper sound of the S62.
S65 flat plane crank I believe? Sounds more "racing ". Both sound good but I chose the most important factor. The faster of the 2.
The S65 is a crossplane V8 not a flatplane, BMW never used a flatplane crank V8 outside of its race cars such as the M3 GTR and its successor the E92 M3 GT2 using both flatplane v8s, respectively the P60B40 and the P65B40
s65 hands down its unique
s65 redline is actually 8400 btw
Nice!
The S65 kinda sounds like a Corvette.
M60 b40 on e34 also good 👍
I wish I could hear one. They are so rare to see, even at car shows.
@@AlexGrayactually very very similar to the s62. Actually the s62 had more in common with the m60 then the m62 official replacement headgasket for alpinas 4.6l bored m60s are s62hg...the individual valvebodys and such is missing.
I think e39 sound it's better
e39, and better looking!
Of course 39 is the best and always be . !!!!!!!!
e65 is a screamer V8!! e62 has that old school V8 sound
M5 all the way ! Manly!
s65 are forever tarnished for me after experiencing rod bearing failure at 28k miles, then watching a buddy who didnt learn from my mistake buy one, only to have it also fail inside of first year of ownership. engineering flaw that bmw has never truly owned up to.
I agree 100%. I hate that it happened to you especially at such low mileage. I assume you were consistent with the 5k oil changes and warming up the car? I bought mine with 80k miles and although I never got around to doing the bearings (sold it at 105k) I was always worried about them. I did however start to get consistent throttle actuator codes which is what made me sell it, after having to replace the thermostat, voltage regulator, o2 sensor, DCT side pan gasket, diff pinion seal, and a few other things which really ruined the ownership, especially when the throttle actuators went bad. I wasn’t about to drop $1700 on those and STILL have to do the bearings after having replacing all the other stuff. Never again.
@@AlexGray absolutely, im a maintenance fanatic and have always taken great care getting my cars up to operating temp before i put them through real use, was a very brand ruining experience for me, bmw left me high and dry since i was past the end of my powertrain warranty time, even though it had such low mileage. im glad it happened early on at this point because ive heard of long term ownership nightmares just as you described. i had a used motor with about 40k miles on it slapped in and sold the car for peanuts (compared to what i paid).

One of my friends wants replace E39 M5 for something newer. He wants E90 M3.
He wanted to replace the E39 for the E60 but he gave up because the E60 is unreliable so he turned to the E90 M3.
Is E90 M3 better then E39 m5?
s62 for life
does that s62 have 393,978 miles on it!!! amazing
Yes! Had over 400k by the time he sold it
Dream cars :(
Me too, the E39
S62 Sound muscle cars s65 Sound of the course
*Torque*
No comparison
M3 sounds fast but m5 actually is fast
M5 has less power && is heavier ??
But Has more torque@@E92TilInfinity
@@xXTommyXx but the E92 is literally faster
@@Fearzzy yeas IT is, have dual clutch gearbox and is lighter I think
@@xXTommyXx its faster in manual aswell, while yes the E39 has more low down power (torque), the rev renge on the E92 more than make up for it as u can hold ur gears so long
S62 kinda sound like n62
