Easy to follow. I have bathroom with knotty alder door and is thin, I will add floor sweep and take door jams off to seal and find weather seal inside of door and because the door is so thin will it help some when I put polyurathane on door.
We are under going renovation of our basement and we have Stripped the entire wall. We want to sound proof and your web site is very helpful. Thank you.
Hi, thank you for this helpful video. I have a little less straight forward of a situation that I’m wondering if you could help me with. I live in an old Edwardian apartment building in SF. I just had somebody install one of the original redwood doors of the building to my dining room door frame, which prior, was just an open door frame with the original door removed. I had to have a professional do it, because the molding of the wood of the building has shifted over time, making the door trickier to install. I installed the door because I play classical guitar and I am trying to eliminate sound coming from that room out into to the rest of the apartment. Unfortunately, the door installed has some pretty good sized gaps where the light streams through, and the top of the door is actually not completely straight, so the gap at the top graduates from a bit smaller to larger. So, I am wondering if I can address these larger gaps somehow with weather strips and what kind and method would work best for this situation given the gaps are larger than normal. Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate it!
Go to Cliff's Hardware and try a roll of their door insulation made of FELT. It's about 1-inch wide. You can nail this into the wood framing around the doorway. Should help to close those gaps without getting all kinds of glue and foam stuck to the framing.
Thank you for this content. I need to build an enclosure for my generator in my RV. It needs to be a solid box, the generator grabs air from below, and exhausts below as well. The enclosure needs to be waterproof on the inside. Do you have a video to suggest on your channel?
Hi there! Thanks so much for these videos. I am a voice actor trying to sound proof a giant window in my den. I already have a booth but because the window is so big, the traffic noise is leaking into my booth. Do you think using the sound deadening vinyl material and industrial velcro would help reduce the sound the same way as installing sound blankets? I just couldn't find any videos of people trying out the vinyl material so I thought I'd ask. Thanks so much!
Great question Annie! There's a few things you can do in this instance. MLV will help in reducing road noise because it will bock sound and also help absorb the vibrations. So you can definitely use that. I would go with a 2lb. You can also use something like indow window inserts. One thing to note about these inserts is they work very well if you have a single pane window but they don't make enough of a difference with doubler triple pane windows in reducing outside noise. Best of luck!
Hey, thanks for the info! So my apartment has a door sweep but a sliver of light still shines through. If you catch this comment.. would you replace with a few mm longer door sweep or is there supposed to be a sliver in order to open and close? Thanks!
Is it possible for me to make my own soundproof blanket in my own country? I can't get hold of moving blankets. What are they made of? I did a bit of research and discovered they're made of partly cotton matting.
Hmm it does sound very silly indeed. Is the gap too large for weatherstripping? There are thin and wider weatherstripping you can buy so that could be a solution?
We rent, and my son's voice is very loud from his room. After sealing the holes and adding the door sweep, what kind of non-permanent solution would you suggest best?
I am currently trying to prevent mostly my voice from escaping my living room where I play video games into my upstairs neighbors house. Hanging another layer of drywall is out of the picture as I am renting, so I am looking for another option. If I were to cover the ceiling 100% with 2 or 3 inch acoustic foam panels will that make a difference? If not is there anything I can do or am I hosed?
Thanks for this video! I'm getting my kids in my STEM class to design a soundproof wall separating 2 classrooms. Thanks for giving them some ideas! I'm thinking some pool noodles will work! What do you think?
Learned so much to help soundproof my home office. Really trying to work on having my sound not leave the room so easily. I have 3 kids that are with a babysitter during the day and I talk on the phone for work a lot. I have tried all of these methods, but the door is hallow and I still feel like my voice travels easily and if there is crying you can hear it while I am on a call. Do you think a door blanket would help?
Working on planning a rather large acoustical room project. Really the first physical acoustic project I've ever done. These tips are great. I've always been hesitant to try those acoustic caulks and sealers. It seems like you actually have some good hands on with them. What is your direct opinion of those materials in real world application?
interesting fact, I tried sealing the door really well and in fact it stopped having effect. It seems when you don't have the construction separated from the door by some means, it acts as one structure and the door isnt as good sound separator as it's connected too tight. What helps seems to be mass and layers of some mass stopping sound, too much sealing seems to have effect to some means but too much seal has adverse results as it mitigates dilatation.
I live above a garage and l can hear the opener all the way to my bedroom on the 3rd floor. I placed a rug, layer of card board, and rubber cabinet liner under the rug and failure. Is there anything that could help other than Sony Noise Cancelling Earphones. Plus l share a wall with my neighbor and after their remodel l can hear them talking on their phone. We do not rent but own our Condo. HELP PLEASE !
under door draft stopper less about $10 walmart, Target, Amazon stop sound very well-30 second install. My laundry room next to my recliner so I hear the washer/dryer. With the draft stopper and a 3/4" thick sheet of styrofoam mounted on door, I can hardly hear the machines. like your channel.

My room is in basement and under the kitchen. I can hear every single time someone walks, do dishes or even breathe up there n I'm sick n tired of this.
I live literally next door to a damn kitchen and cooker and have my bloody sister awake at 7am and 2am in the fuking kitchen. Is she mad or what? I'm actually considering to install a professional soundproof/fireproof door and its now 2.30am. Sick and tired of this shit 😡😡. My life is so great when the couple are away seriously
@@AmzPixieYou'd think it's that easy..... It really isn't. It would then require to talk to EVERYBODY in the house and set a damn ground rule which I probably will have to do at some point
Hello. Thanks for being so generous with the materials. I'm currently soundproofing our basement and could use anything you're offering. Cheers!
Very 'sound' advice. Thank you.
Looking forward to trying different options to soundproof an apartment. Great channel!
Excellent and timely information given the fact that A LOT of people are now working from home in makeshift offices.

How about moving blankets inside a laundry closet on the interior side of the french doors? Could it impede air circulation?
I wouldn't have moving blankets by the dryer.. fire risk
Thank you for your intuitive video.& I would appreciate free stuff as well
when sound proofing french doors, how do you seal the middle between the doors?
Thank you so much for this video!
Do you recommend using green glue for filling gaps? Or just for glue gypsum/plywood?
I definitely need some for my kids door when they play

I really want to try the door sweep as my apartment door has quite a substantial gap

What kind of blanket is best regarding thickness and type of material please?
Have you taken measurements? I'm looking at soundproof blankets or mass loaded vinyl to lower HVAC noise coming through a utility room door

Not heard of a moving blanket, are they available in the UK?
Can you send a link for the rubber door sweep brand and weatherstrip to buy to soundproof bedroom door?

Is it alright if it drags?

Did you try anything for your vent fan?

Replace the interior hollow core door with a solid core door. Anything else you try to do will not address the prime issue involved here.

Honestly, I find acoustic caulking works just as good as regular caulking, the only difference is that it doesn’t crack over time.
