Kudos to the guy who walked into the eye of a hurricane holding one of these to confirm that the pressure was indeed low.

      It works differently every where.
My Barometer always below 29 in summer season, but there is no rain, actually it is heat that developing and affect the reading.

I've relied on my joints for a few decades to predict local weather and changes likely to influence it.
Severe inflammation indicates bad weather heading in, even in high summer, as it usually means thunderstorms present or building, during that season, but is more likely to flare during the expected bad weather of Winter.
Manageable pain without the need of heavy painkilling medication often accompanies dry, warm weather.
Arthritis...nature's way of taking you back to the classroom. 😂
I thoroughly enjoyed your scientific breakdown and thank you for uploading!

Thank you so much for a wonderful insight into Barometers, how they work and how we can best interpret the readings. In particular the explanation of falling (low) and rising (high) pressure, and the reasons behind it was really informative and useful, I really enjoyed watching your video and am now top-fit in estimating what they are telling me. I guess recently I've become a bit of a Barometer fan and have already started collecting them, interesting ones. Latest item to the (still small) collection was a Sputnik Weather Station from the 60s/70s. Thanks again and keep them coming. I subscribe :-) - Bad-Cannstatt, Germany.

I LOVE Barometers, because as you say; no need to wind them, plug them in or use batteries - you hang them on the wall, and they’re there operating all of the time! It’s always good to tap them as you say; I’ve always done that as I pass it, and you can be quite astonished sometimes how much they can move which tells you quite clearly which way the weather is going! It’s important to note though for those new to them, to only tap them very lightly, as after all, these are precision instruments, and they won’t always respond which doesn’t mean they’re not working, as there may be nothing to respond to some of the time. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for a very good explanation of how barometers work. As i am growing more and more into the digital world, i get more and more interested in the analog tools from the past. Modern science and weatherforcasting is really phennomenal, but still - an oldfashioned barometer is far more fascinating. And the «unprecise» slowly gained knowledge every man used to have to predict the weather…i miss those days :)

It is also called as an altimeter, we can also measure the altitude of a place by locating the rise and fall of the pressure in the barometer. While you climb higher altitudes, the pressure in the barometer drops, while you descend, the pressure increase. In this way, you can also calculate the altitudes. Therefore, the instrument is also known as an ALTIMETER.

    • @TheWeatherStore
      @TheWeatherStore  8 місяців тому +1

Thanks for the contribution. The one I featured in the video does not have an altitude on the dial so its just a barometer and meant to be stationary on a wall. It uses the same mechanism as an altimeter though. Portable altimeter / barometers are usually smaller and they have the altitude scale around the outer dial.

Thank you for the nice video. I have few questions please. I live in Amman, Jordan. I own an aneroid (inhg) west german made barometer without any brand name on it just MADE IN WESTERN GERMANY below on the dial, that used to belong to my late father, it was presented to him on his wedding day in 1960, and it's still working till now. To set my barometer, I followed the ACCU weather site, and set it to the mentioned pressure. The question is that I don't live on sea level, my location is 920 meters above sea level, if i want to make a correct setting, it should be set at 26.5 inhg, because at sea level the reading will be around 29.9, so if you go up to 920 meters, it should fall to 26.5, while there is no 26.5 on it, it starts from 28 in hg up to 31in hg , so is it correct to set it like the weather station says today for example it says 30.1 ???? I can't understand this. 30.1 at which altitude ?? , Another research i made, i put the barometer picture on google to find out the manufacturer, google results showed the same barometer under HOFFRITZ N.Y., GERMANY brandname, should i consider my barometer is HOFFRITZ being exactly the same model ? and why my unit has no HOFFRITZ brandname on it ?
    Thank you, peterketchijian@gmail.com

What could you use in combination with a barometer to help you predict whether for like that day or maybe the next... I have a ABC watch I use for hiking, that would be awesome to have something that's not connected to the internet help me determine when rain is coming or bad weather in general... I'm assuming that you just kind of make a best guess and look at the sky😂

Thank you for your explanation. I have just a small question: should I tap the barometer everytime I want to check the pressure? I'm asking this because, as you mentioned, sometimes the pointer doesn't seem to be moving. Currently, it's been some days since the last change in my barometer. Kind regards.

    • @TheWeatherStore

I like to tap it. The tapping creates a small shock to the system which will displace any stickiness to the works.
