exactly. one of the worst films i had ever seen. it is so contrived and so vain in what it wants to do. it's bullshit. i wanted to gouge my fucking eyes out from watching that piece of shit.
+Blue Whovian Just cause you know what happens in the end, there's no need to mention it on a UA-cam comment and spoil it for some other people. I've already seen it though. It's okay, probably an honest mistake, just a heads up for the future. PS. If you still haven't seen The Sixth Sense, you should watch it anyway. I already knew about the thing at the end before I saw it, but I watched it anyway, and it's still an incredible film.
The early bit in this film where Will Smith is cursing out Woody Harrelson had me dying laughing like few things ever have, even more than this brilliant rant.
Kermode and Mayo of all people playing the macho card? I don't think so. Also, I think he was kind to the film. He forgot to mention that it's suicide-glorifying. Whoops! Spoiler alert.
The ending isn't supposed to be a surprise though. The film reveals itself as it foes along allowing you to work it out in your own time. I thought it was great and Will Smith was fantastic in it.
I don't think so. He's an ex-Trot from Manchester, who missed his graduation because he had work, and he's constantly joshing Simon about being very upper-middle class- witness the post-fencing banter.
This is the first Mark Kermode review that i disagree with. I think its a really good movie (albeit far fetched). And i got a little emotional at the end. No shame.
A bit harsh, I rather enjoyed it, I don’t like many Will Smith films, they’re a bit too blockbuster pop corny for me but this was ok. I think Kermode’s judgement was coloured by the non-disclosure proviso, that kind of hype would probably irritate me also.
This ridiculous rant is centered on the fact that the film is predictable? As if it's supposed to be a thriller/suspense?! Lol, it's a DRAMA! Is Titanic a bad film because it's predictable, or is it a drama and not MEANT to be suspenseful?
The film is well acted, stylish & well directed, however the film’s slow, dull, depressing & is A modern US take on Angela’s Ashes (1999). (35%) (2/5 stars) (mixed to negative)
Ouch, i gotta disagree with mark on this one, sure the ending wasn't a massive surprise but i thought will smiths performance was sheer quality, i suspect mark has some kinda of prejudice against "big name actors" like will, was one of his best perfomances in my opinion, but hey ho thats just me.
Mark Kermode was simply poorly primed before watching this film. By the producers asking him not to give away the ending, he was probably looking for a crazy twist whilst watching the film. Without the initial priming, he may have enjoyed the film, like the rest of us who weren't necessarily looking for a twist, but perhaps assumed it was a simple story of loss and love. I blame the producers for warning him not to give away the twist ending, but also Mark's ignorance to the shift of standpoint that this caused.

Taste is subjective and can be easily affected by external influence, it is not for one person to definitively tell us what is good and what is not, when the matter of judging art, in all its forms, has limitless variables and parameters: That is for each individual to decide. I have watched many films where I have been disappointed because (I suspect) what someone told me, or what I'd heard before watching the film, affected my expectancies. Likewise, when I've watched films that I know have had bad reviews, I've often been pleasantly surprised. NOTE: Whilst it is virtually impossible not to hold some sort of preconception of a film prior to watching it, I did not read any reviews before watching Seven Pounds.
you have to be such a pretentious movie critic to hate this movie. Sure, it's predictable. I honestly think that's kind of the point, and even if it isn't, it works beautifully. The whole time you know will smith's character is going to die. if you just watch the movie without looking at it through some ridiculous lens, expecting a corny version of will smith gunning for an Oscar (such a strange criticism), it's amazing.

Couldn't understand the movie at all. Thanks for clearing this up
"It's called 'production'."
Mayo is the greatest.
this deserves to be under the title Classic Kermode.
He's right on the money too. Seven Pounds is as oscar baity as they come.
exactly. one of the worst films i had ever seen. it is so contrived and so vain in what it wants to do. it's bullshit. i wanted to gouge my fucking eyes out from watching that piece of shit.
that's amazing.. you just subtly didn't actually spoil the Sixth Sense. That's just very cool.

I love the banter on the show. I often don't care about the films, I just like to hear them chat.
"It's not about numerology, is it?"
"No, that's Number 23, which Jim Carrey clearly thought was three times seven".
Brilliant throwaway line!
The early bit in this film where Will Smith is cursing out Woody Harrelson had me dying laughing like few things ever have, even more than this brilliant rant.

SO glad that the reviews can be heard on the website.
Seven Pounds. l:Willous Oscarbatus
Pretty much. :-D
Lol! I'm late as hell to this!
I haven't heard this review for ages, wish now I had not deleted that episode of the podcast which had this review in it.
maybe I'm wrong but I really liked this film
Eight years later, I can tell you that you're not wrong friend
I just watched the movie. It was amazing but the beginning was confusing in the beginning
Was able to rant without saying anything about the film. Classic
What's in the box?
THE THING!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahahahahahahaahahahahahaahahahahahahahaa.
heres the thing... WOW WOW the thing..? classic

well, actually you can trash any movie this way. absolutely any movie on earth. seven pounds was a solid movie, I quite liked it.
Retard
now you've done it .
I thought the reveal was that Bruce Willis was dead all through the movie.
RamBam3000 Bruce Willis is dead throughout all his movies.
While everything he says is true, I still liked this film
The ending isn't supposed to be a surprise though. The film reveals itself as it foes along allowing you to work it out in your own time. I thought it was great and Will Smith was fantastic in it.
Never seen the film, but the acting in the clip did sound very good.
This movie would have been so much better if it was more upfront with what it’s about. It tries to be way too mysterious
What is 'THE THING'?
Then how was he able to read out THE FILM'S OWN PRESS NOTES which clearly stated the ending WAS supposed to be a surprise.
Not in your own time, but rather just in time for the ending.
I don't think so. He's an ex-Trot from Manchester, who missed his graduation because he had work, and he's constantly joshing Simon about being very upper-middle class- witness the post-fencing banter.
the press notes are shockingly bad does the studio think people are idiots.
...yes

I dunno whether Kermode is posh mate lol
They sound like they are in a cupboard
I loved this movie. Not a sensitive guy but hits you if you watch it with no distractions.
This ridiculous rant is centered on the fact that the film is predictable? As if it's supposed to be a thriller/suspense?! Lol, it's a DRAMA! Is Titanic a bad film because it's predictable, or is it a drama and not MEANT to be suspenseful?
Oh dear.
The film is well acted, stylish & well directed, however the film’s slow, dull, depressing & is A modern US take on Angela’s Ashes (1999). (35%) (2/5 stars) (mixed to negative)

Will Smith’s character is absolutely loathsome.
Seven Pounds is pathetic.
Hilarious review of a terrible film with a good intention.

27% on Rottentomatoes. Who are "the rest of us"?

nikosvault I'm sorry, I've slipped into arguing on a comments feed. Good comments, take care, (with actual sincerity), Tom.
That's not how Rotten Tomatoes work.
i disagree with Mark kermode 100%. from half way through the movie i had a lump in my throat that didn't leave until long after the movie had ended!
Screw the guy who didn't like this movie! This was a spectacular movie!
Keegan McLean Terrible ending.

eh it's not a terrible movie all around it's decent just very bland.
I'm not sure I've seen a more perfect personification of irony than this comment
these guys are such a bore
