The only good thing this film did was invent a verb - to get Norbitted, i.e. to have an Oscar nomination go up in flames at the last moment. Basically, Movie 43 was one long attempt to Norbit as many actors as possible.
Eddie Murphy is an ingeniously talented comic actor, but he is also clearly thick as a redwood. Too bad, but shockingly, Murphy's last ten movies are twice as good as Martin Lawrence's.
Norbit struck me as Eddie Murphy making fun of lower class African Americans (the kind you see on COPS and Jerry Springer) the way we British make fun of chavs. There's a thread on IMDB where someone asks if people have ever seen someone like Rasputia in real life and loads of people say "Yes! All the time!" It's still a crappy film but not quite as 1 demensional as it initially appears, I think Kermode might have missed this and assumed it was just about fat jokes and slapstick gags.
Before people say "this political correctness" this movie came loong before politics were broadly discussed, and even then you could feel how distasteful and unfunny this movie was, uncomfortable and cryngeworthy, those were the feelings.
Unpopular opinion: Norbit was funny. It was intended as a loud slapstick film..it achieved that. And Murphy doesn't need an Oscar.. he's far too talented and full of merit. Every movie cannot and should not be a Citizen Kane.
Simon's sarcastic "That's a great script!" line always gets me.

"Eddy Murphy is thin, wears a fat suit and marries himself." lol
I'm on video #31/379 and I'm loving this Kermode rants playlist. Flogging is such a painfully funny word, particularly in this context.
The contempt in his voice
Now...this is old and Eddie Murphy was in Dolemite is my name and was fantastic, I wonder how long it’ll be before he re-norbits himself.
Remember going to see this film on a school trip, you should have seen the looks on the teachers faces.
My favorite part is when he says "Big Momma's House" like it's the name of the character.
So Norbit is the inspiration for Adam Sandler's Jack & Jill then?
The entire time i was just shocked and left wondering at how they made that cellulite suit.
Nutty Professor had some genuine affection for the characters. You liked Murphy's fat relatives. Norbit was just hateful.
Norbit was actually nominated for an Oscar (for makeup).

marks aside re the serial killer film, its actually called Feed, not feeder
never saw norbit, looked awful
inland empire is very good but i wouldn't say: "go and see it" because it's not the most accessable film ever
MichaelLeroi Nice to see you here. Thanks for singing my petition BTW.
Tom McAvoy? No, not quite, doc.
Imma be honest....I liked the movie...don’t @ me

Norbit was good and really funny!!!
Rasputia was a wonderful grotesque, the equal of Mr. Creosote. I'll die on that hill, friendo.
Admit it Norbit is kino
I laugh my ass off watching Norbit. Dumb can be seriously fun sometimes.

There's a middle ground between Norbit and Citizen Kane.
@@Nathan-gd7xq I'd hope so lol
The Citizen Kane argument is such a lousy excuse for making a shitty film.
