I felt that, I got just enough for NATO style straps, but I find it funny I have mkney stored away so often just for computer parts, but never enough for video games. Lol
I think you nailed it when you brought up the Richard Mille. At this price you have people buying with the hope that it will appreciate, not because they care about the theme.
Why not casio or seiko or timex or other more affordable brands though? Because i don't know what kind of person would like this and have that kind of money?
@@jessISaRicePrincess my 8 year old would love this. I’ve been cheaping out on his allowance though. This might be a little outside of his price range.
I'd actually get the traditional Chrono i'm a big Nintendo/Mario fan and IMO it's really well done. Love the Tourbillion but I feel like if you're spending that much you'd get something from the holy trinity of brands or as our friends said 'hope it appreciates'. That said I'm excited they did a pair of actual automatic watches instead of another Smartwatch.
I think it's smart. It's uncharted territory, and it gets people talking about both brands. They will inevitably sell them all, I'm sure as collectable pieces. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they did come out with another colab that's more affordable, with this then driving some hype behind it.
The way they've done the ad material is genuinely excellent to be fair, probably second only to the classic Omega Coaxial commercials. So much better than the typical "Errrrr...there comes a moment..." * sports moment * * watch * *unrelated sports moment * "Errrrr... in time or something idk buy our watch cause S P O R T S"
I love that TH is doing something different, it is well done for a collaboration... but 25k is bokers. If I had 25k to spend on a watch I would get a haute horology watch not one that had video game stuff on it. Maybe 2500-5000 without tourbillon and the fancy stuff on it is a reasonable stretch.
I think you nailed it Tom. The quartz, formula 1 at around $1000. I think this would have been really clever, especially trying to target the younger generation and potentially expose them to the world of watches. Even watch snobs could potentially justify the $$ for a bit of fun… however, I think if I saw anyone with this piece in the real world, I’d shake my head. (I’ll possibly regret this comment in 50 years if these watches are more desirable than anything on earth and worth more than your average house…)
It would have been a much more attainable entry in the quartz style. I at least wish they would have offered it in 41mm. That 44mm is pretty large for gamers - we aren't football players! Who knows, the way these sold out immediately (I went to the local AD and the 44 was sold out, they just had a tourbillon left), this might be the start of a lot more Mario collaborations for Tag Heuer.
This is fantastic. Seiko finally has competition for their joie-de-vivre pop culture collaborations (the Porco Rosso editions were glorious.) Rather have than most other things at that price point.
Its for rich people who are watch geeks and old school gamers who want something out the box. I'de buy it if i had the dough. Two changes which would have made it perfect 1) get rid of the 'Mario Kart' on the bezel 2) Change the dial to black/white
I almost completely agree. As funky Mario watches, they're both quite nice! But I would have been happier if they were quartz (or entry level mechanical) chronos at far lower prices. I hope whoever buys them really do so because they like Mario, because they're not going to be a good investment.
Feels like a Gerald Genta's Micky Mouse... I love it. Too bad, I don't have the money for the tourbillon. It would be interesting see more of this concept being rolled out by other brands. Like Hamilton and Konami. I don't know about you, but I think Liquid snake would look good on khaki field mechanical dial. Sonic and Ultrachron by Longines doesn't sound like a bad idea. Tetris and Tissot Powermatic would be a killer combination.
I think they are cool, the Tourbillon is not 25K USD cool though. Fragile watch snobs are going to go ape shit over the collaboration and im here for it.
How about snoopy or ultraman omega? arent they the same case? I disagree with this video, when you are Mario fan and has the money, rrp is no longer irrelevant. Moonswatch target market is different with this piece.
Nice watch! It would make a great gift for the video game enthusiast if it weren’t for the hefty price tag. I agree with Mr. Talking Hands that if it were a Timex (ie. reasonably priced) I would buy it. Thanks guys, great show!
This is great example how to not make watch related to some franchise. You can make it in blue and put tiny Sonic on it and it will be again boring because you can slap any cutout picture on it. Anime G-Shocks have more personality then this.
When you see the size of the box this watch is shipped in and the watch cost, one would think TAG would throw in a Nintendo gaming console (Switch) for free as there is plenty of spare room in that box.
Leveraging on nostalgia. The first Mario players are now at retirement age and can totally afford these silly toys with a small fraction of their severance package. Clever.
I would actually buy it if I have the money, look at the AP black panther it is so in your face it's more like a ultra expensive Invicta, the tag Heuer is more subtle...look at the snoopy or ultraman omega, tho I think the ultraman is a little too subtle
I'm guessing that the play for these watches is not gen pop, but the e-sport crowd. I can image the winners of a Mario Kart world tournament receiving these watches as a prize. How else would it feel justified having one of these watches?
It looks like the guy who owns Invicta made a deal with Nintendo on behalf of Tag Heurer, and they look cheap. Tag must really be hurting to stoop to Invicta levels.
Apparently according to a Tag rep I spoke to this evening, all the tourbillon watches are spoken for. Huh? That's weird, the Tag Heuer website says it's not even available yet. Come on Tag! Think about your reputation! I'm sure the lady knows she'll probably never see me again. Whatever.
Madness... madness... (c) Taking a brand, which in the past was associated with such great race drivers as Graham Hill, Gilles Vilneuve, Clay Ragazzoni, Jo Siffert, Johan Rindt, Mario Andretti, slap Mario on it, and call it "Formula 1", is just beyond comprehensible. I am glad that I started moving into Omega, though :)
9000.- extra for the Mario Design... well, almost as ridiculous as the 9000.- extra for the optional french flag on the rear spoiler of a Bugatti... Some companies obviously want proof, that the can sell bad taste items as long as it´s expensive enough to rate it "exclusive".
I agree to all of your cons. I also think this childish colabos doesn't fit on a 25k watch. *BUT* the same people int watch scene who are tearing down this TagHeuer are praising the Omega Speedmaster Snoopy. Don't get me wrong. Love and buy what you like. But I don't understathis double standards whfn it cones to TagHeuer.
Many questions who's gonna buy this kind of watch, remember now is the era of young people becoming influencer and making banks. Think of Hublot and RM type of people.
Totally agree Mario is game almost everyone enjoys and loves. This should not have been made to create artificial scarcity and hefty price. Its fun game and it deserves to be on everyone's wrist. TAG is also meh brand. Wish other brands create affordable fun time pieces.
Although I can't afford it, and I'd rather have my D Dornbluth und Sohn I've been saving up for, I think this is pretty cool, and probably meant to sell to millennials like myself that grew up playing mariokart as a little boy. Time flies as now I'm 30, but for the amount they want, there are alot of other things I'd rather have first. If this was a timex Mario Kart collaboration, like my Timex Peanuts Nasa collaboration watches, I'd be all over collecting them, but its just so far out of my price range, its closer to the price of a second car.
I love the watches, but the tourbillon version at $25K should have a back cover secured with more than 4 small screws, and should likely be a skeleton back. The watch just looks cheap, and not something even remotely worth $25,000! 😎👍✌
Both of these are well done. It captures the point of spending money on a nice watch: you buy it because you want to smile every time you look at your wrist.
I think the financial angle here doesn't work as much. It's about association, it's about cultural relevance, not about an "affordable icon" with an "Expensive Brand". Mario as a culture transcends financial classes, I feel this collab would cater to the more well off subset of the gaming community. The influencers, championship players and the decades old fan boys with extra disposable income.
